Ernie Ball Music Man: Inspired By is a new web series that delves into the inspirations, motivations, and history of today's top guitar and bass players. In this episode, Prophets of Rage bassist Tim Commerford discusses his early days, being inspired by Louis Johnson, using music as a voice and vehicle for protest, and his lifelong relationship with his StingRay bass.

      I love Rage, I love Tim's playing and tone, and they're maybe the tightest rhythm section in rock, so don't think that I care about this sort of thing (I'm listening to their music, not hanging out with the guys, you know?), but I've always heard that Tim is an ENORMOUS douche, like super arrogant and inflammatory and patronizing and just generally kinda shitty. I can't cite any specific sources but I've read it a lot from people that have played with or worked around him. I don't know if it's true, and I don't especially care, just saying he might not be so humble in reality.

    Tim's tone has always been so amazing and raw. Such a good complement to the aggressiveness of Brad Wilk's drumming and Tom Morello's guitar. 100% honest music. You could listen to Tim, Brad and Tom play and you would know exactly what their message was.

    Had a Steinberger Bass ( one of the original models in Black from the 1980's) on Craig's List for sale in 2013. I played bass at one time with a band . Band broke up , formed my own band , switched to 6 string guitar and just didn't play bass anymore , so the Steinberger was up for sale. Wanted a Martin acoustic as my band was "country, rock & oldies". Tim Commerford bought the Steinberger Bass from me and that helped to fund the 00-18V Martin. Thank you Tim ! :-) Betty from "Bak-ta-Bak"....(true story).

    Thanks Tim, I really mean that. I really dig your playing and your attitude about life....... and I'll never forget the time you got arrested on MTV! Musicman and Ampeg the standard in the industry.
    Hopefully you'll have a signature model sometime.

      Music Man doesn't do signature basses, closest they came was making the 6 string Bongo for Myung.

    • @domboy666
      @domboy666 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do signature guitars, no reason they wouldn't do a bass if it was sufficiently different from stock models and they felt there was a market for it. Not sure Tim's basses are that different tonwhat is already available though. Roasted maple neck and a classic style bridge

    • @Unmarked_1
      @Unmarked_1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      also they did a 3 string Tony Levin bass which got burned up in his garage.
      they never made another one too bad because it look really cool it had white binding around the edges and I believe they used a Harley paint

      They don't do signature stingrays. Flea wanted to have one but it never happened. That's why modulus made him a signature bass based on the stingray

  • @RastaSaiyaman
    @RastaSaiyaman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's good to see him playing Musicman stingray basses again, he played his Fender jazz basses for so long that people completely forgot that he played anything else.
    So when I saw a RATM tribute band and I asked the bass player why he didn't use a stingray, the guy actually said "Tim never played a stingray!" only having to eat his words later when I showed him footage of RATM at pinkpop 1993.

    Tim C’s take the power back launched me into the world of slap despite it being one of the only slapped rage songs.
    I’m not even a huge rock person, i typically play jazz and funk with some occasional rock stuff but Tims bass playing really seeped it’s way into mine

    Jimi inspired me to get a good Strat in 94. 94! That's how long Jimi's reach was. And I have to throw a lil respect to Green Day because at the time they were the biggest band ever. And Rage. Tom didn't play a Strat, he played a hybrid Tele but he was a god to me. And the first bass song I learned when I picked up my friends bass was Take the Power Back. So the first bass song I learned was slap bass. Tim is the man.
