    • @erikrandan7294
      @erikrandan7294 3 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      If I remember, its actually an old airplane hangar that they converted into HQ. I cant think of any musician who wouldnt love to be able to do that! Having their entire operation and history contained in that one space definitely would fuel creativity on a massive level.
      I recall James talking about wanting to take the garage that they wrote Puppets in and moving the whole thing to HQ, only to find out it had been torn down...but then was stoked to learn they saved some of the lumber, so he had Ken Lawrence turn it into his guitar "Carl". Definite mojo flying around there!

    It's amazing how simplistic songwriters they are. They have no real tactics beyond just trial and error and "Finding pieces that connect", you'd think after all these years they'd have a process but its just like getting with your buddies and jamming. Very humbling.

    • @chupasaurus
      @chupasaurus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrParkerman6 The process has structure, the steps to make a song. Metallica doesn't have one, they figure what's working on the spot. Check out Mick Gordon's talk at GDC 2017, the first part of it is exactly about that.

      It was the only good track on the 2nd disc and at the same time, the best track on all of Hardwired.

      @@TheyCallMeMrMaybeNot to be biased because of my love for the band but I strongly disagree
      Confusion is a track straight out the Black Album I love it
      You should hear the Black Album rework people do with AI James Hetfield, it fits right in.
      Murder One is a great tribute to Lemmy and a badass song
      Here Comes Revenge is awesome (except that horrendous solo. Didn’t like it then, don’t like it now)
      And Obviously the best Metallica thrash song since the 80s (IMO) Spit Out The Bone
      The rest I agree to be dismissible

    And to think, these guys almost broke up during the recording of St. Anger. It's so awesome to see how far they've come and how compatible they are today. The jokes, the camaraderie, the creativity, and the overall vibe was just awesome.
    Some Kind of Monster showed us that St. Anger had basically _none_ of that, and it was so depressing. We were watching a band just tear themselves and each other apart for personal and creative issues between all of them. The biggest obstacle being James' sobriety, trying to recover his life and band from his devastating Addiction. I dont think he laughed or even smiled one time during the whole movie :\
    And now look at them. They just enthusiastically bounce off each other's vibe and ideas the whole time, making great music and most importantly, they're having FUN. TOTAL comeback, both musically and personally. Let's all give these guys a round of applause 👏 Thank God they stuck together! I will never stop loving Metallica! 🤘

      David Catanus but not everybody has the same endurance over time. Doesn't have to do with talent. Phil Collins, who was a tremendously talented drummer, can't play anymore because of the physical problems he has, probably because of age, but not because of a lack of talent or skill.

    • @davidcatanus4922
      @davidcatanus4922 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      CoTeCiOtm you mean can't play as fast as he used to? yeah I suppose as you get older you're not as energetic as you once were but age doesn't determine skill. True that, but Lars is still contributing to the session, keeping tempo and generally not being a pissy bitch (like back in the early 2000s). I'm not saying that this Metallica renaissance known as "Spit out the bone" was Lars's idea, but I'm just pointing out that Lars is clearly not some kind of burden to bear for the rest of the band, which is a popular belief online. People seem to forget that many of the Metallica classics have been forged with Lars on the lead, and that he's not just some megalomaniac Danish dude.
      EDIT: so in the original comment that I was replying to it was written as "His vision" which I mistook for "Rob's vision", when that was not the implied meaning. My bad for mixing that up

    They got a picture of Charles Mingus on the top left hand corner of the whiteboard with a quote of his that reads, "Anyone can make the simple complicated. Creativity is making the complicated simple."

    3:26 Wonder why Lars started out so fast, seems like he started counting because he mistook Chi for some other, faster not released song. Maybe? Who knows

    Not only is this song the best on the album it’s one the best they’ve ever created! I’d put it up with there with all their “classic” hits. It’s genius cause this song combines ALL the great elements of Metallica’s song we love. And James voice!!!! Especially the bridge section “Stop breathing and dedicate to me” Awwww classic and sooo damn good! This song is WAY underrated.

      Vidar Nordgren The whole missing phone bit is BS. James said a while back Kirk was dealing with "life things" during this album's process, that it was his business, and he'll talk about it if he wants to talk about it. It's possible he went through rehab, therapy, or something similar.

    The chorus, transitions, riffs, pausing, melodies/harmonies, they all meld into perfection. New metal bands take some FUCKING NOTES. Yes pausing matters! Transitions are so important! Good riffs come with good RideTheLightning distortion too!

    I love that all these years later I can stumble upon something like this and enjoy it as much as I did. To me this is one of the best songs they’ve created in decades. Feels fresh, different and still Metallica. This is why they have been and will always be my favorite band. 🤟
