Really appreciate an interviewer who just lets the artist riff. He offers something up then steps back and lets the artist just go. Very professional!.
Hey, as a fellow mountain biker, I found that question awesome! All good, John covered the bases, or basses rather lol. Seriously, what is there to complain about?
I can't stress enough how much Timmy C's basslines and sounds meant to mean when i began playing bass and music as a whole. I know i'm not the only one here
Absolutely, I also learned so much from this guy, it's unbelieveable Nobody else ever covered that much area: groove-oriented funk-influenced rock-Metal-punk sounding and touches deeply into industrial tech sounds throughout his carreer. Incredible musicianship
same here. I'm a guitar player but I started playing bass last year and 75% of the time I just play some Rage tunes,my favorites being New Millenium Homes, Maria,Bullet in the Head and Know your Enemy
I know James Jamerson and, in fact, I'm realy more into jazz, funk and psychedelic music than in metal in general, but I really love Tim C's tones, there's something about the fact that he distort a lot his bass sound but you can still hear everything that he does that I love a lot.
He's such a good bassist, love his work with RATM and Audioslave and the tones he gets are just monstrous as well. Not to mention he's a big reason why I love my Music Man StingRay
+G. Quinn Yeah, I loved his work on Killing In the Name Of, that's maybe my favourite RATM bass line. Also he does play with one of the most badass guitarists ever Tom Morello
And as humble as anyone! I just knew him from the bands Rage, Audioslave and Prophets now, but never think of about listening him to talk about his gear, but it was great to do it now! Long live to TH-cam by the way! Thanks to Premier Guitar to put it on too!
Man, Tim is just such a sincere and passionate and down-to-earth, unpretentious guy despite being in some of the biggest bands of the 90's and 00's. What a freaking gem.
I love these kind of rig rundowns where the artist really shows they are happy and excited to have the gear they have and love talking about it all. Great interview!
Thanx so much for being my dirst impression to the bass guitar(lol) i could never thanx u guys enough for the tough love. Best day ive had in 12yrs. This is the best gift and will keep me motivated for at least another 12yrs and more.
I love Tim's enthusiasm for talking about gear! It's funny seeing the different types of personalities in these rig rundowns. Some guys could care less what things are set to, or what gear they use. This guy soaks up the details. I totally connect to that. I really enjoy this type of player's perspective on the instrument and his preferences.
Tim seems like such a super chill guy, especially with how modest he was being about his ability on bass. Really seems like an all around great person, while being an unbelievable musician at the same time. Definitely something I strive to be in the future.
Fuck yes! I've waited for this video since 2011 when I first stepped up my bass game. Tim's sound has always been my go-to reference. Thank you PG team, this was magic!
atm it's just a Warwick Corvette, which is also kind of a blend of a Jazz Bass and a Music Man and a mexican Jazz Bass. Going into an Ashdown RPM-1 tube preamp to an 500w PA poweramp into Ashdown 2x10" and 4x10". Effects are Dunlop Bass Wah, Boss DD-3, Bass Chorus and OD-20 (Multi Overdrive which fucking sucks, but it's the one coming the closest to where I wanna go) All in all not the real Timmy C deal, but for me it's all about that heavy bass distortion, which is the reason I'm using a guitar OD. All the Bass drivers only fizzle around on the mids and highs, which I totally hate! So, any suggestions? btw. I know the real distortion comes from the power amp overdriving, but cranking up a SVT to that point needs a pretty big stage.
One of the most underrated Bassists of all time- Just hard rocking and kick ass! I Love his bass lines, seems to punch some serious ass and lays the foundation with Brad behind the drums. He really drives the songs and holds true to Tom Morellos simplistic Guitar wizardry- really... Just man.... I'm so glad he made the list finally and you guys did this!
Selected this video to hear what Tom sounds like. I have listened to his music for going on 30 years and never heard his actual voice (his music voice has, ironically made my MTB times faster) So cool! I had to add, his enthusiasm is rare, and everyone in the world could benefit from this kind of enthusiasm. Be that way, or find people like that.
Thanks for the tour Tim,i was 19 yrs old in 96 and i remember sitting in my car after practice in front of my parents house, listening to evil empire, just enjoying it , realizing what an amazing recording and performance that was,you guys did so awesome on that album.
Tim is as legit as u can get, fuckin awesome dude. Playing bass, touring, mountain biking, hell yeah. Dude knows how to keep life fun apparently. Knows how to stay young for sure, and that's always a good thing. It's the key to being happy, never feel old.
I've always liked his attack and tone. Ampeg SVT into 8x10...of course. Tim is under rated. Not flashy but that pocket is tight. May have to go check out the Music Man Stingray. PG...excellent job as always.
Heavy topic that translated to music hardware. That's insane. This is the next level of sound processing. 1st, the tape modeller. 2nd, is now. 3rd, feedback processing. Awesome. ✊🏽
What a cool dude. Not what I'd call a virtuoso, but to me, even more meaningful, this man has power and FEEL. He has such an insane sense of rhythm and a creativity which I really find is more impressive. I love his riff on "No Shelter" for example, so cool and simple.
I know what he's saying about the acoustic sound of a Musicman. I received a Stringray for Christmas and was playing it unplugged in my parents' living room and my usually smartass younger brother said "That sounds good." I was thinking the exact same thing. My new favorite bass. Love playing first album RATM on it.
I love his playing. On another funny side note, was anyone else waiting for the interviewer to say, "Totally radical?" Both seem very nice. Great job, Premier!
Another great rundown! Came here straight from the Morello rundown and both are captivating and enthusiastic. Love RIg Rundowns, not sure how I missed these!
Always fun to hear someone geeking out out on his favourite thing. So inspiring and enthusiastic. That´s the spark in everyones Heart which ignites at different Things. A colourfull World with interesting People. If anyone reads this who is frustrated about his Life. Listen to your Heart and do the things you love. Love yourself and treat yourself with Kindness. Forgive yourself for Mistakes you did in the past. Mistakes are important because they show you what is not working for you. God bless you keep fighting.
One of my favorite bassist.. hes come up w some of the sickest bass lines ever. Been waiting for his rig rundown and still waiting for Tom Morellos rig rundown even though I already know his rig lol. One of my fav bands of all time RATM!
I used to love Rage and liked Audioslave when I was younger. I don't really listen to either anymore but Commerford is still one of my favourite bassists. Learnt many of his lines. Like his style.
Any rundown where the actual artist takes the time to show their gear is instantly 100x better.
Dan Beattie and Fleas tech was a super cool down to earth guy!
And knows his stuff!!!... Most of these millionare musicians, they're really good, some of them.. but most of em' know shit about their equipment.
i dont know as a tech
i love when the techs who know there shit come on and i can learn from them
Curt Denninger HbbbbbbjqQ
Yeah it’s kinda half wanting to see what they play and half just wanting an interview with the artist lol
The best part about the interview is the interviewer. He let Tim talk and never interrupted, I wish all interviews were conducted this well.
He is so pro as a interviewer 👍👍
Really appreciate an interviewer who just lets the artist riff. He offers something up then steps back and lets the artist just go. Very professional!.
Bohlinger is awesome. 👌🏻
man what a sincere humble person, love Tim. Also props to the interviewer, you sir do an awesome job with actually letting musicians speak
Timmy C is a really cool dude and John is the best interviewer Premier Guitar has
AlexzanderVL It's easy when you have an artist willing to go into detail when you ask them a question. Some artists just go "uhh..yeah. Uh huh. No."
Kim Normal Official nice to see you here
“I don’t feel like I’m a big deal” oh Tim you were and still are and inspiration for millions of musicians and bass players! You rock men!
"Yeah I just love talking about music."
"What bike do you ride?"
hahaha. "You rode here to the venue right?" "No."
Hey, as a fellow mountain biker, I found that question awesome! All good, John covered the bases, or basses rather lol. Seriously, what is there to complain about?
ianA wasn't complaining. I just thought it was funny how he was talking about music and then John switched gears so quickly. Pun intended.
That was great, I know so many musicians in the southwest who ride.
Bahahahahahahahaahahaha 😂😂😂💀😂
Gotta respect his integrity, humbleness amd pure passion.
You hear he just loves to talk music. Great dude!
lmao "my sound guy plays bass" every bassists dream
Tim Commerford 's tone = Classic. And his basslines are just legendary !!
Almost all his basslines based on Morello's riffs, so they are not so legendary and unique
Not like Tim needs my defense, but I don't agree with you, he's not following the guitars blindly
do you even listen to Tim before saying that ?
Also, some of the riffs are his.
Serg Neverov I heard he actually composed a lot of the songs for RATM, pretty much came up with the song ideas
Dylan Palonis yeah I think Tim himself mentioned something like in a Q and A with B Real for the Prophets of Rage
I like how you can tell he's been waiting to tell someone this stuff
its the first time he speaks about hes gear, he always keeped it very secret
"whenever a string broke"
...This dude plays hard enough to break bass strings :o
Joe Bookish When you play RATM is hard not to play that hard. I've snapped a few E strings playing Tire Me specifically.
well if you're playing all the way back where tim usually plays..down by the bridge..i would say it takes quite a lot power to brake strings
I've broken quite a few strings playing lightly, I think it really depends on how old or rusted the strings are.
I've broken strings on my upright bass (1954 American Standard) playing bluegrass music, so it happens more often than you think.
Satoriearth dont you mean D string? :)
I can't stress enough how much Timmy C's basslines and sounds meant to mean when i began playing bass and music as a whole. I know i'm not the only one here
He is a true inspiration
Darrien Day +
Absolutely, I also learned so much from this guy, it's unbelieveable
Nobody else ever covered that much area: groove-oriented funk-influenced rock-Metal-punk sounding and touches deeply into industrial tech sounds throughout his carreer. Incredible musicianship
***** agreed 100% !
same here. I'm a guitar player but I started playing bass last year and 75% of the time I just play some Rage tunes,my favorites being New Millenium Homes, Maria,Bullet in the Head and Know your Enemy
He's a damn good bassist with damn good taste.
I like your profile pic.
Pork Soda!!! Oh man you know about good music...
I SECOND THAT!! ☝🏽
You do as well since your profile picture is an album by Primus
moshspeggeti nice pfp
All members of RATM have not aged a day lol
slickcross communism dudee!
@@agustinantonucci5990 lmao
Tim lost all of his teeth a while back. He must've gotten new ones. He looks good now.
Dylan Hutto what happened?
@@Ampher03 it was something to do with mountains biking, bad crash
One of the best bass tones that I've heard in all my life.
I know James Jamerson and, in fact, I'm realy more into jazz, funk and psychedelic music than in metal in general, but I really love Tim C's tones, there's something about the fact that he distort a lot his bass sound but you can still hear everything that he does that I love a lot.
The Universe ew nu
Wow, Tim is waaayyy more of a gear nerd than I thought him to be. I think it's cool that he took so much time to do this :)
Ask him about bikes and he’ll talk even more
He's such a good bassist, love his work with RATM and Audioslave and the tones he gets are just monstrous as well. Not to mention he's a big reason why I love my Music Man StingRay
+G. Quinn Yeah, I loved his work on Killing In the Name Of, that's maybe my favourite RATM bass line. Also he does play with one of the most badass guitarists ever Tom Morello
Search Time Slowing Down on TH-cam ... commerford, wilk and grohl
Groove + Feel > Lots of notes + flashy musicianship
Declan Kerin you can have both.
@@andrewpappas9311 also don't forget WAKRAT
Cool to see him back playing Musicman basses. That's the tone of the first RATM album.
Its good that he uses the same type Of basses
Hands down, this is the best Rig Rundown ever. What a talented, generous, humble, intelligent artist! Outstanding.
I've got an Ampeg PR-210H if he's still looking.
This was a good one. John seemed genuinely interested in what Tim had to say, and Tim was just being Tim, awesome as always
Omar F I didn't know what to expect. Was genuinely surprised. also love that he built his own distortion.
Best rock bass tones ever recorded are from this man
The bass sound in Evil Empire (RATM) is huge
The one in Self-Titled (RATM) is better. ;)
All albums he is on crush!
and Evil Empire is the peak
It's fun to play his shit with a way pedal.
"Our band was born out of feedback"
The guy is such a badass !

17:31 Best analogy about feedback ever. Tim is such a smart, talented and humble human. Best bass player out there.
Commerford is like the best MusicMan salesman imaginable. Really sells the heck out of that first Sunburst bass. "It's a beaut Clark, It's a beaut!"
He seems to have matured a lot since RATM. I remember when he climbed the stage at the VMA's.
He is way too humble, WTF? I love him!
I've always liked his bass playing.
After all the years and gigs it's amazing to hear him talk with such passion about his gear
First time I've actually heard Tim speak in an interview and he seems like such a nice guy. Nice to see someone stoked about their gear.
Tim seems like such a super chill guy, especially with how modest he was being about his ability on bass. Really seems like an all around great person, while being an unbelievable musician at the same time. Definitely something I strive to be in the future.
This is a man that knows his gear. I love this.
"I dont feel like I am a big deal" such a humble guy.
He went deep on the pedal chain. Love it.
Fuck yes! I've waited for this video since 2011 when I first stepped up my bass game. Tim's sound has always been my go-to reference. Thank you PG team, this was magic!
what rig you using.

Yes, such a humble artist indeed, too much to learn from! Love him👏👍❤❤
I love Tim's enthusiasm and positivity
Love that he's so nerdy about his gear that he knows the exact model number of the cabinet he's looking for and even built his own pedal!
one of the best videos and bass player. I wish more actual artists would do their own rundown like this. Much respect for keeping it a PASION.
Love how passionate he is about bass 🙌🏼
Love Tim. Saw Rage and Wakrat back in August. Guy kicks ass
One of the most underrated Bassists of all time- Just hard rocking and kick ass! I Love his bass lines, seems to punch some serious ass and lays the foundation with Brad behind the drums. best PG interviewer with tim commerford....all is good! :)
Ever heard of Rebecca Dirks?
The chick that mugged off Fleas tech right?
Timmy C gets REALLY into gear talk and talking about the nuances of music. I love it!! He seems cool to hang out with.
Tim is brilliant, hes aging really well looks super healthy. Those Music Man's look incredible.
brunz does anyone know the specific model of the music man?
Adam Carr Music man Stingray
Tim is the guy who really taught me the ropes when it comes to bass years ago. Always been a fan.
Great! Loved every minute! Tim is so passionate about his music...
There is a pawnshop here in Phx that has two of those cabs for sell.
The 210? which pawnshop?
buy one then sell it to him
It was on East Bell Rd. Id have to look up the name. They wanted something insane for them like 1400 for both.
You are the MAN. Thank you for your music and everything, Tim. World needs bass, riffs and freedom!
Tim is as legit as u can get, fuckin awesome dude. Playing bass, touring, mountain biking, hell yeah. Dude knows how to keep life fun apparently. Knows how to stay young for sure, and that's always a good thing. It's the key to being happy, never feel old.
17:17 Such a crazy metaphor on feedback. Damn, Tim is a real artist
Wow, I liked him before, but right now I fell in love with this artist!
Tim C has to be one of my all time favorite bassists of all time. This guy has always been a huge inspiration for me.
Dude this is almost therapeutic listening to this. Great chemistry

Thanks for the rundown. I finally found a PR 4X10 HLF. what a beast
i just love how tim loves music so much
Such an amazing musician, it's a pleasure to hear him talk so passionately about his basses!
I love his playing. On another funny side note, was anyone else waiting for the interviewer to say, "Totally radical?" Both seem very nice. Great job, Premier!
The thumb spot between the screws of the MM pickup is the ultimate sweet spot!
Really enjoyed this interview. I never really met a music man guitar I could gel with but this makes me want to try again.
A hero of mine. And not for that reason but possibly one of the best rig rundown interviews I’ve seen
Tim is so awesome. Still rocking at 50
Another great rundown! Came here straight from the Morello rundown and both are captivating and enthusiastic. Love RIg Rundowns, not sure how I missed these!
What a great guy. I bought a Music Man Stingray recently and absolutely love it. So good to hear Tm C’s take on them. Very down to Earth.
great freaking bassist and great freaking interview.
You can definitely tell the passion Tim has for the instrument, which as a bassist, is refreshing to see but dude gave a beyond awesome interview
Love when I hear someone have passion for their instruments & music.
great interview - let him talk. very humble man, his basses are art!
His Basslines are the only good thing about Prophets of Rage. You're a true MVP Tim. Even when the band sucks.
Best Rig Rundown I've seen yet. Tim is a kickass dude 👊🏻
That natural finish with the black hardware is so sick! I want to get one for my next stingray!
Always fun to hear someone geeking out out on his favourite thing. So inspiring and enthusiastic. That´s the spark in everyones Heart which ignites at different Things. BEST bass rig rundown ever! (or that I've seen thus far in my existence...)
This is my favorite rundown I’ve ever seen
The greatest bass player ever! His sound on the Audioslave records is amazing his sound is huge! And the effects he uses are so cool!
Les Claypool rig rundown, please!
There's an idea
He always politely declines. He wants to keep his secrets i guess.
That would be like the 2 hour holiday special.
Such a legend. Awesome tone.
What a great episode. Tim is so engaging! One of the very best guests yet!
Awesome guy, so low key for such a legendary sound and rock history
One of my favorite bassist.. hes come up w some of the sickest bass lines ever. Been waiting for his rig rundown and still waiting for Tom Morellos rig rundown even though I already know his rig lol. One of my fav bands of all time RATM!
EL _Wilder88 tom’s is out! Just saw it yesterday 👍🏼
Tim’s the one member of RATM that doesn’t get talked about a lot.
Tim is a fantastic bass player!! Holds his own!! big time.
One of the best rig rundowns ever.
I used to love Rage and liked Audioslave when I was younger. I don't really listen to either anymore but Commerford is still one of my favourite bassists. Learnt many of his lines. Like his style.
Highly under rated bassist. His style helped shaped mine.
good to see tim still working.
Best rundown ever. Love both these guys!!
Amazing dude, so down to earth and he is a real rock star musician right there...
