Insane. I’ve been detecting for about 5 months now and I use the vanquish. I’ve found thousands of coins and several pieces of sterling jewelry. I watched this video this morning and it opened my eyes. I VERY RARELY dig anything under 12 but after watching this morning I decided to go back to some spots I’ve already detected and dig some lowers numbers. Long story short, I just dug my first gold. A small 10k ring that rang 8-9. Crazy. Thanks so much!!!

NICE MAN!! That's why I do these videos! I am just about a year into detecting and I was the same way! Once you dig so much trash and foil at those low numbers you kind I also just scored a small 14k pendant at the park less than a week ago, was reading a 4 ! Kind of a shame that most gold sounds like the foil but at the same time it's kind of good because a lot of the guys who detect will never dig those low numbers so more for us! 💪

im a noob to detecting, bought a 440 and been out twice so far, first time was digging literally EVERYTHING, ended up with a LOT of small pieces of foil but did have a couple of coins
Realised the foil was coming in between 1 and 3 so didnt bother digging them the second time, after watching this video ive come to the realisation that its best to dig EVERYTHING lol
Thanks for the great video and keep up the good work

Metal detecting is all about what you feel like doing on any given day.. you could miss something good by not digging a low number.. but you also save yourself a lot of time because there is LOTS of trash in the low number range.
Just keep an open mind and have fun out there! :)
      Thanks for hangin'! 👍

And have been on a quest for this info you have here . Thanks

repeatable = round and that can always be a decent strategy... but it's site dependent if you are in an untouched historic site dig everything...if you are in a trash infested modern park or beach you'll have to impart some sort of strategy.

Perfect timing of this video. Just got a 440 for Christmas. Tried it out at a elementary school baseball diamond from the 40s. There was so much beeping on every square inch. I just dug the quarters. Got $30 dollars just in quarters in two days. Would half to dig entire field up cover all those ranges.

Great informative video, I have owned a 540 vanquish for a few months and use on the beaches in Western Australia
I’ve found some good rings and some spendable coins by digging what ever beeps as I found myself saying going to be junk and items in some cases far from it, as a pensioner I would recommend this hobby to anyone good for the mind your overall health I’ve lost ten kilos over a few months that was not needed
A great addictive hobby, like walking a dog but no vet bill or food bill
    Happy hunting

Literally just started detecting more frequently the last two weeks and nobody told me to dig the low numbers...... I watched the video and ran back over to the park I had just left and second hole rang up a 8/9 and got my first 14K gold wedding band at about 5 inches deep with the Vanquish 440. Thanks for the assist!

Another excellent video. Thank you, Vanquish 440 is an excellent machine, too bad it cant pinpoint on the fly like the machines of yesteryear. I know it "can" pinpoint with that battery killing quasi-triangulation, but In my day, no pin-pointer was needed so digging was a lot faster. Happy Hunting.....

I have a 14k gold figuro bracelet that read 10, and my 14k gold figuro chain, same size, different length as bracelet , read a 7-8! Does that sound right? I’m little confused. I thought gold would go higher. My chain and necklace were pretty expensive. Chain was $2700, bracelet was $1400.

Your channel is great and I've watched several of your videos. I just bought my first metal detector and I got the Vanquish 440. Thank you so much for doing this video. I've been holding out for higher numbers but I'm going to start digging a little bit of everything.

On my old 1990s Bounty Hunter gold rings rang up as aluminum screw caps, pull tabs, and 5c. Silver rings unsually rang up as 25c. Some jerk with a 60,000 dollar bass boat came up one day to "see my machine" and said, "Awe man that`s just a toy!" and walked off in huff. I found three 14k rings, a 14k earring, and 18k gold rim glasses that day. The detector cost 250 dollars on sale in 1996. Manual ground balance, target ID, all metal threshold mode, great discrimination, three tones, and extremely sensitive on small targets.
I started detecting in the 1970s and the target ID was like a miracle to me at the time. I could hit tourist areas, baseball fields, and parks nobody had ever detected and mop up on quarters and gold rings. My Vanquish 340 that cost 170 on an open box deal is like a miracle too. If someone can`t find the good stuff with a budget detector they`re no good at it. It`s the same with fishing. Give me a couple of cheap rods and a beat up johnboat and I can outfish anybody.

I hear yeah man.. I pass over so many 1's But I will not pass up solid 7-35 repeated numbers. I will not pass up a lot of jumpy numbers I dig those more then I would dig a 1-6.. I know I am possible passing up a gold ring or bling.. Thanks For sharing this Vdi Air test too... Great Video

I'm a bad "cherry picker" . Sometimes I go for the iffies, but not enough. A few spots I go to, it would be impossible to dig everything being soo trashy. I need to buckle down and dig more iffies.

Nice chart! What I've pretty much learned is... jewelry & cool stuff comes in so many different shapes, sizes & target IDs if we don't want to miss the goods we're pretty much digging it all out. 👍

@TreasureOutdoors Do the numbers stay pretty constant with depth? For example a nickel at 2 inches vs. 8 inches...
I just got a 540 last week and I'm going out with my daughter today to give it a serious run. I also picked up a pro 35 pointer, so we should have fun.
Thanks for the video! This is extremely helpful.
