Well…….after watching this video, I have to go back and redo everything I have done for the last two years at the old golf course. 😂😂 Thank You for your help 👍🏽
I know NOBODYS gonna believe this! Just watched two of your videos yesterday. And I remembered what you were saying about bdi’s for gold and had an odd ping last night right as I was going inside and decided to dig it. I very decent sized diamond ring! I almost had a heart attack when my eyes adjusted in the dark! It was a solid 21

Very cool and helpful video man I’ve only had my vanquish for 40 for like three days now and I’m going gold crazy lol no but it’s funny. My wife tells me not to get discouraged and I tell her I could go out and do this all day every day come home with nothing and I’ll still go back out the next day and do it all over again lol, but I’ve been wondering about the beady eyes so that helped me tremendously. If you scan the Staples without any discrimination on the machine they don't even come up anyway. @@pittsburghcoinhunting1452 thank you, I have spent countless hours watching videos, setting up my own course in my yard to hear different metals and get target numbers down. The vanquished has pick up a good bit of bent nails and chunks of iron but if you put it in all metal mode it'll discriminate a little better. Usually when it's a better Target the vdi number will be more consistent and less bouncing all over. Do a grid pattern in both directions on an area and on an angle. For some reason big Rusty Nails and bent Rusty Nails come up as high tones on even the high-end machines. I think the corrosion or something messes with the machine. A lot of times when you watch the vdi number will jump all over the place. On a really good Target the tone will sound good and solid and the numbers will be solid. Best of luck. HH. JOE.
Interesting video Joe. I've been thinking about a new machine for while but it's just learning a new machine. That makes hesitant about it.I have a AT pro and I like it but sometime I question the depth.

We just have to get a metal detector that detector everything and we dig everything whit out be waiting time watching the screen. .
thanks for the video when I first got my vanquish I found 5 coins right off now all it does is detect ghost targets good high numbers you dig and they vanish no sign of them in the plug or the hole I put the small coil on and it's worse it ghosts all the time it also is constantly shutting off with full charged batteries any suggestions
Wow that is definitely not normal you should contact Minelab because they have a good warranty service and send it out to be checked. It's most likely something malfunctioning inside. Best of luck. HH. JOE.
Aww man, all these numbers matches with aluminum vodka caps and foil from cigarette packs which is in every place on western Europe... I probably left quite some good stuff as I dug only solid 10-11 and 30-40
Just starting with the 540. I was initially very frustrated that I was digging nails when the numbers were high. Should I just ignore the corresponding item icons altogether? Your video shows silver in ranges where the icon is a pull tab or bottle cap. It seems like those icons are almost more distracting ...
Sometimes you get into some bad ground and big bent nails will give you a high tone. That happens with even the high-end machines. They cut out about 95% of The iron. Better targets like silver will give a stable number on the vdi instead of being all jumpy from high numbers to low numbers. Focus on really good sounding repeatable targets that give a solid vdi number. It may bounce between a few numbers and still be a good Target but if it's bouncing from 20 all the way up to 35 then it's most likely iron. I hope this helps. Best of luck. Joe.
Great video, very useful. Would the VDI and tones be the same in relic mode? I know the recovery speed would be different but I’m wondering about the IDs. Thanks
awesome video my friend. I love your channel. Is that a screen protector you have over the screen on there!/? thank you for the informative videos!! happy hunting and good luck out there
Thanks! Appreciate u watching. Yeah I get screen protectors for iPads and then cut them in pieces for my detector screens. Best of luck to you. HH. JOE
@@pittsburghcoinhunting1452 man, that is a great idea. Thank you for that! I'm definitely going to try that trick. I love your vanquish videos and will look forward to watching any new ones. I got a birthday coming up in 5 days and I think my wife is going to let me get a 540. So I will need all the help I can get. HH Friend and Good luck out there 👍👍
It would be nice to compare readings from various denomination gold coins . I'd bet there's a lot of $1 gold coins still out there because they're so small and read like foil or something.
Thanks for watching Craig! Yeah the gold is definitely the hardest to find. A friend of mine dug a gold $1 coin and he said it his came in on The nox from 5 to 8 . So always take the foil tones you never know when it's going to be gold. HH. JOE.
Hey Boss - have you ever tested pewter for a vdi?? I dug the business end of a spoon the other day, can't find any information as to what pewter could display on a V540, thanks.
I have never found anything made of pewter yet with my Vanquish so unfortunately I can't help you with that one. But if the piece that you found is greenish or reddish then you know it's brass or copper if it is neither of those two colors it might be pewter.
Thanks for watching Tom! I think the full scale helps discriminate some more iron but other than that they are both easy to use. You basically just need to learn your numbers and what things come in and what section. I definitely been enjoying the multi IQ it's helping with the more difficult ground in certain areas. All the best. HH. JOE.
I put most of my old coins that I find in the two by twos with staples haven't had any toning or problems yet. As far as I know they should be okay. All the best. JOE.
you have to hold in the power button on the headphones for about 5 seconds and it'll go into pairing mode . The lights on the side should be flashing back and forth to blue and red . then hit the Bluetooth button on the machine and they should link up. Best of luck. HH. JOE
The Staples don't even pick up on the metal detector at all by themselves. A strip of Staples would hit iron but individually nothing. All the best. Joe
I have the vanquish 540 and other with me as units I can use when I go detecting, what I have noticed with the vanquish is solid non jumpy numbers and good sounds should always be investigated, It's a fun machine to use.
Thanks for watching. Vanquish is definitely no fun machine to use. I've only been using it a couple months but I've found lots of goodies with it so far. HH. JOE.
All I understood is that I have to dig everything. Not exactly what I expected. Garrett 200i is quite different, most of the time trash is on the low scale, under 50-60, good stuff is above 80 to 100.
Believe it or not even with your Garrett if you're skipping all those low tones you're missing different small pieces of gold that comes in just like trash does. And this happens with every metal detector on the market. If you don't dig every tone that's not iron then you're missing gold and silver items. Best of luck to you. HH. JOE.
Thanks for watching James! Sometimes after being in the ground so long Peace dollars and Morgan dollars will hit a 37 or higher. Best of luck. HH. JOE.
Pretty much close to the same machine but the 540 comes with a 12 inch coil not a 10 inch coil but if you get the 540 pro pack that comes with a 12-inch coil and a 8in coil. Honestly though if you're into the Hobby and willing to spend a few bucks I would recommend the Equinox 600 or Equinox 800 over the Vanquish. Best of luck. Joe.
You use the 8-inch coil in places that have lots and lots of signals close together because it will separate better than the 12-inch coil but won't go as deep
Would this be the same on the 340? I'm just getting into metal detecting and I ordered the minelab vanquish 340. It seemed to have the best reviews for the price. Anyways thanks.
Yes the vdi numbers are the same on all the vanquishes and the Equinox 600 and 800. If you're new to the Hobby try to focus on digging the stable vdi numbers that only jump maybe one or two that'll produce more better targets. If the numbers are bouncing from 20 up into the 30s it's most likely junk but if the depth meter shows four or five arrows I usually dig the jumpy ones but only if it's deep. Best of luck. Joe.
@@pittsburghcoinhunting1452 thanks for the tips, the minelabs came in yesterday. Both my wife and I got one. We went out for about an hour and found a modern penny and a nickel and also a stainless pen cap. The park we went to was full of junk so we gotta find a better place for next time.
Everything except iron. U can avoid some pull tab signals but dig all other loud clear signals and deep choppy signals. That's the best way to get all of the lost treasures from a spot. All the best. Joe
I think the V 540 is a great machine... mine is the pro pack. I do not get out much but I do like the Minelabs. Quit frankly these days... I'm afarid I'll be robbed and beaten for nothing else, for my machine & skin color. Here in Tx. I could carry... but that would be the last thing for me... to kill someone trying to rob me or just give me a beat down by several youth thugs, just because I'm there. I guess I need to find a club, and go with 1 or 2 friends that enjoy hunting too. Too Bad America has gotten so bad and dangerous.
You can't stop living life because of other people you need to enjoy yourself whenever you can. If you need to carry to protect yourself and feel safe that maybe that's what needs to be done. And getting together with other metal detectorists is always great time and you're safer when you're in groups so that is definitely a good idea. All the best and good luck. Joe.
If you want to find all the small and different size pieces of gold that are lost you need to dig all the trash signals other than iron for instance last year I picked up a 14k white gold diamond ring and it hits an 8 on the Vanquish. Best of luck. Joe.

We just have to get a metal detector that detector everything and we dig everything whit out be waiting time watching the screen. .
How do the staples around the coins affect the vdi?
Staples don't effect anything because the metal detector doesn't even pick them up at all.
All the best.
Thanks !!
thanks for the video when I first got my vanquish I found 5 coins right off now all it does is detect ghost targets good high numbers you dig and they vanish no sign of them in the plug or the hole I put the small coil on and it's worse it ghosts all the time it also is constantly shutting off with full charged batteries any suggestions
I probably left quite some good stuff as I dug only solid 10-11 and 30-40
I live in England and have done the same left out all the pull tab numbers and bottle tops foil ect will be digging them from now on
Just starting with the 540.
Joe.
Awesome video. Well done. As another popular TH-cam detecting group say, "Dig it all and take your trash with you."
Thanks Brian! Appreciate u watching. Best of luck. HH. JOE.
Great video, very useful. Would the VDI and tones be the same in relic mode? I know the recovery speed would be different but I’m wondering about the IDs.
Thanks
Thanks! And ID and tones will be the same. Best of luck. HH. JOE.
@@pittsburghcoinhunting1452 thanks, I’m torn between relic and jewellery mode.
Jewelry mode is my personal favorite.
awesome video my friend.
HH Friend and Good luck out there 👍👍
Could your readings be affected by the staples in your coin holders?
No the Staples don't even ring up on the detector at all . All the best. Joe.
Nice buddy
Thanks man. Best of luck. HH. JOE.
HH. JOE.
@@pittsburghcoinhunting1452 especially when you're in a park or someplace old enough where people would have carried gold coins back in the day
I completely understand I have found two us gold coins four years apart down in a city park. I feel there's definitely got to be more. HH. JOE.
I wish my job wasn't "essential" and I had more time to metal detect!!
I think every detectorists would love to quit their job and metal detect full-time if they could. Best of luck. HH. JOE.
Careful what you wish for son
Vanquish 540 and equinox 600 have the same circuit board?
I'm not sure if the board is the same or not but the vdi numbers are the same along with the 800 as well
Hey Boss - have you ever tested pewter for a vdi?? I dug the business end of a spoon the other day, can't find any information as to what pewter could display on a V540, thanks.
I have never found anything made of pewter yet with my Vanquish so unfortunately I can't help you with that one. But if the piece that you found is greenish or reddish then you know it's brass or copper if it is neither of those two colors it might be pewter.
@@pittsburghcoinhunting1452 I appreciate the feedback.
Best of luck to ya. Hh. Joe.
Don’t the staples on the holders register?
@@daviddavey1727 no the Staples are so small they don't pick up on a detector at all. All the best.
I have a 440 and I'm usually in Jewelry mode. I noticed you were as well. Is that your preferred mode to use?
Yeah jewelry mode is my favorite. Done pretty well on the gold rings in silver coins and this modeand gets really great depth. Best of luck. Hh. Joe.
after using the compressed vdi scale compared to the full scale what do you think? do you like it better then the full scale?
Thanks for watching Tom! I think the full scale helps discriminate some more iron but other than that they are both easy to use. You basically just need to learn your numbers and what things come in and what section. I definitely been enjoying the multi IQ it's helping with the more difficult ground in certain areas. All the best. HH. JOE.
VANQUISH 540 #TMJSEMPRE.
Are your coins in a protected cover with METAL STAPLES around the coin?????? Any detremental effects there???...
I put most of my old coins that I find in the two by twos with staples haven't had any toning or problems yet. As far as I know they should be okay. All the best. JOE.
With all those staples I would not really say this is a precise test...
The staples wont effect anything. The staples don't even give off a single when scanned with the detector. All the best. HH. JOE.
How do you get headphones to pair I can't get them to pair?
you have to hold in the power button on the headphones for about 5 seconds and it'll go into pairing mode . The lights on the side should be flashing back and forth to blue and red . then hit the Bluetooth button on the machine and they should link up. Best of luck. HH. JOE
What do those staples come up as
The Staples don't even pick up on the metal detector at all by themselves.
HH. JOE.
Avarage depth ?
So basically good nice things are from 20-30???
All I understood is that I have to dig everything. Not exactly what I expected.
Garrett 200i is quite different, most of the time trash is on the low scale, under 50-60, good stuff is above 80 to 100.
Believe it or not even with your Garrett if you're skipping all those low tones you're missing different small pieces of gold that comes in just like trash does. And this happens with every metal detector on the market. If you don't dig every tone that's not iron then you're missing gold and silver items. Best of luck to you. HH. JOE.
I get readings all over the board but what's reading 37 to 40
Thanks for watching James! Sometimes after being in the ground so long Peace dollars and Morgan dollars will hit a 37 or higher. Best of luck. HH. JOE.
What is better 440 or 540 what do u suggest me to buy
Pretty much close to the same machine but the 540 comes with a 12 inch coil not a 10 inch coil but if you get the 540 pro pack that comes with a 12-inch coil and a 8in coil. Honestly though if you're into the Hobby and willing to spend a few bucks I would recommend the Equinox 600 or Equinox 800 over the Vanquish. Best of luck. Joe.
@@pittsburghcoinhunting1452 yeah i got the pro pack ... where is good to use the 8 coil??
You use the 8-inch coil in places that have lots and lots of signals close together because it will separate better than the 12-inch coil but won't go as deep
Would this be the same on the 340? I'm just getting into metal detecting and I ordered the minelab vanquish 340. It seemed to have the best reviews for the price. Anyways thanks.
From videos I've watched the ID numbers seem to be consistent across the 340/440/540 Vanquish range :)
@@PhilipKerry thanks for letting me know.
Try to get permission from friends and family or neighbors that have old houses it might better your chances
the broaches ?
But the staples on some
The Staples don't even pick up on the detector at all. All the best. Joe
You shouldn't have used metal staples, just regular glue to attach them together. Its detecting the staples
Think i will stick with my minelab x terra 705...
Every time I dig up something in the 20s it’s rusted nails
What about the staples
so just dig it all?
Joe.
If it's high toning on iron ya got a bad machine. Couple people got one. Best thing to do is run some iron test.
It Discriminates most iron out. But a lot of the larger corroded bent nails come in as a perfect 20 - 23 signal
I'll have to compare it to the 1 my friend has. All the best. HH. JOE.
Lol numbers differ due to depth, type of soil, position, etc. I don't even look just go off the sounds.
forget the silly numbers...just listen & dig ALL solid repeatable signals and you will be surprised at what you find good luck
Then you could only go looking with 16-22
If you want to find all the small and different size pieces of gold that are lost you need to dig all the trash signals other than iron for instance last year I picked up a 14k white gold diamond ring and it hits an 8 on the Vanquish. Best of luck. Joe.
