- Unseen Before! British Army and the French Duo Changing of the Guard Rehearsal for Historic Event tomorrow 8thn April, 2024
France is to become the first non-Commonwealth country to take part in the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Monday 8 April 2024, the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale.
In preparation for this historic event, The French Gendarmerie Nationale have been rehearsing at Wellington Barracks in London with soldiers from the British Army’s Household Division.
The Band of the Grenadier Guards and F Company Scots Guards trained alongside them today in readiness for Monday’s anniversary.
120 years ago the historic diplomatic agreement between Britain and France laid the groundwork for our nations’ collaboration in both world wars.
Personnel from the Gendarmerie’s Garde Républicaine and the British Army’s Scots Guards will spend the weekend together as part of the cultural exchange, and after the rehearsals today could not resist swapping headgear!

Both armies have been shoulder to shoulder through many extreme severe hardships. I have worked more than a decade with French officers and I can tell that there is, in the French Army, a deep sense of respect for our British comrades-in-arms.
Tell that to the French at Dunkirk
@@malietoasamoa1301 Tell us what? That it was thanks to the 40,000,000 brave French soldiers that the evacuation was possible?
Many people seem to have forgotten this "precision"... Nor have we forgotten the strategic error of Mers el-Kébir...
Nevertheless, we French have not forgotten the valiant British and Commonwealth soldiers who took part in our liberation.
French friendship ;) .
@tetedebocal so many were left behind the British pretty much ditch them there yea there are a few cases of the French also escape but they were left there alone to be over runned by the Germans but eh they made up for it during D Day🤷♂️
Great to see. Welcome French. Glad to serve with you.
Welcome to you too in France. Glad to see our countries' bonds.
Merci. Thank you... only fools to mock both french and British when they walk shoulder to shoulder.
Fought each others for a 100 years and still respect each others militaries. Now brothers in arms.
Nice to be allies! What a great look the French have!!
Amazing ! love to our british friends from france !

Both the French and British soldiers should feel proud of their part in this historical event!
France are the first non commonwealth country in the world to be given this honour. Remember Macron, to you she was your queen, to us she was THE Queen.
Indeed. France is actually not part of the Commonwealth (only the English speaking countries) . France has his Colonial Empire which French Overseas Territory (Departements Outre Mer)
This is special occasion and unlike any event we've ever seen
It's been almost 2 years since the passing of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who achieved the record as the Longest Reigning Monarchy in History (70 years). We deeply missed her
@@christophermichaelclarence6003that’s not true any longer, Togo Gabon French and Rwandan speak French and English and Mozambique speaks Portuguese. All now members of the Commonwealth. I’m thinking, the only colonial empire that created a commonwealth, where countries who were themselves colonised by other European empires, are asking to join.
@@douglasspencer745 Didn’t know that. Interesting intel
By the way, there were british troops guarding the Elysées for the first time aswell, so it goes both ways

About time the French and the British make friends, there are a lot of real enemies around. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is an ancient proverb which suggests that two parties can or should work together against a common enemy.
This is to celebrate 120 years of the greatest friendship.
@@biddyboy1570 The friendship is not always obvious. But I hope it will prevail between the two countries.
I hope so too, and I´m neither French nor British but I recognize the need for solidarity in these troubled times.
By way of reconciliation after 8 centuries of war, the French and British fought together to limit Russian expansionism in Crimea in 1854-55.
History could repeat itself.

quite a history between these 2 great countries - research it -
The actual ceremonies on April Monday 8th will see British guards take part in the changing of the guard outside the Elysee Palace of President Emmanuel Macron, and his French guards do the same outside Buckingham Palace in London of King Charles III.
the central states of France and England, later Britain, fought 41 wars against each other between the first Anglo-French War in 1109 and the Hundred Days in 1815. On average that's a war every 17.3 years. In total France won 24 wars, England/Britain won 11 and 6 were a tie.
The Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) was a series of conflicts fought between England and France over succession to the French throne. It lasted 116 years and saw many major battles - from the battle of Crécy in 1346 to the battle of Agincourt in 1415, which was a major English victory over the French.
Guerre de cent ans fut gagnée par les Français en 1453 à Castillon !
Yes, you remember Crécy and Azincourt. We remember Castillon. But at the end of it, we won that war.
Let's forget the past. This was such a long time ago.
La bataille de Formigny as Well… 😊
Mais non, n’oublions pas, c’est l’histoire et avec nos amis (maintenant) Anglais et Britanniques c’est un vrai plaisir. 😊

the war between England and France continues every year and it is called the "Crunch" 15 against 15

Good to see these two countries despite many years of conflict in the past they still have each other.
Remember, the French imperial Guards considered to be the best during 18th century, but later on defeated by the Duke of Wellington with his Red Coat army together withe the Great Prussian Army in the Battle of Waterloo.
Nevertheless British and French now considered brothers.
you are right.. however just consider that the Brits would have lost if Blucher had not arrived on time !
It wasn't the Duke of Wellington that defeated the French imperial Guard at Waterloo. In fact the British army was getting a damn good bashing from the French until the Prussian army intervened, saving the British from being crushed by Napoleon's army ! I suggest you do some historical investigations. For your information the British army never, ever beat the French army in Napoleonic times on their own, they were on the winning side with many other nations, but never on their own ! France fought :
United Kingdom, Prussia, Netherlands, Hanover, Nassau and Brunswick at Waterloo !
@@Hypersonic-es6vh i watched many vudeos about the waterloo battle.
When the prussians driven back and were on retreat they informed wellington that they will returned. So wellington stand his ground and never retreat even after many waves of attack by the french army. Wellingtons army were the made the elite guards of napoleon to retreat, first time in the battle that the elite emperial guards driven back. Then the prussians came and together they made a complete defeat on the french army of napoleon
@@HighlandFace94 I mean that the whole point of Wellington plan. If the Prussian didn't return then he wouldn't be there. He is not stupid enough to face Napoleon face on alone.
First rule never engage Napoleon alone.

Great display, something we should all be proud of. Who was with the Duke of Edinborough? She obviosly had no idea what was happening or what she should do when inspecting the guards. French Ambassador perhaps?
I guess.
Je crois aussi oui
She is the French ambassador to the UK. The same happened in France, the UK embassador didn’t really know how to behave.
I guess both women, who don’t have any military background, don’t know how to act in these situations.

The lion and the cockerel 🇬🇧🇫🇷
Be interesting to compare the battle honours on British Regimental Colours to that of the French 🤔
look: at the time of Napoléon, it was always displayed on the french flag : "the Emperor to the "x cavalry regiment" or "x infantry regiment".. looking like a gift offered by the Emperor, or the Consul (before being Emperor) to the military unit..
on the flag displayed today, you could read : " The French Republic to the 1st Foot republican guard regiment" (or something looking like ..)
Now I want a Central parade. Traditional German, Bulgarian, Austrian uniforms etc.
What a great idea.🇬🇧
Does anyone know the name of “The Troop” played by the Band of the Coldstream Guards
That was the Grenadier band in this video.
The program for the part with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh (thanks to a kind commentator/WE)
For information, the music programme for the ceremony was as follows:
March to Buckingham Palace: The Bond of Friendship (Mackenzie Rogan), Le Reve Passe (Krier/Helmer), Static Music Marche Lorraine (Ganne)
Royal Salute: French and UK National Anthems
Inspection of the Guards: L’Entente Cordiale (Keith)
Royal Salute: French and UK National Anthems
March to Wellington Barracks: L’Entente Cordiale March (Allier), The Great Little Army (Alford)
Was this a rehearsal?

so I'm not familiar with how it all works, does that mean the garde républicaine is gonna assume guard of some of UK position and vice versa? And if so does it last or it's just for the ceremony?
Just for the 8th I think. 120th Anniversary.
@@solamano7239 thx :)
I forgot to add that it was reciprocal too, with British troops in Paris, at the Elysée.
Who are the civilians?
This was a great occasion, who were the civilians on the Dias?
It's a rehearsal! The people on the dias are stand-ins. The event is on Monday, April 08, and it will involve about 40 VIPs including the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.the UK Chief of General Staff (CGS), General Sir Patrick Sanders, the French Chief of the Army Staff, General Pierre Schill, and the French ambassador to the UK Helene Duchene. A reciprocal event is being staged earlier the same day in Paris at the Elysee Palace with No.7 Company Coldstream Guards and attended by French President Emmanuel Macron. It's a public Anglo-French diplomatic event to mark the 120 anniversary of the Anglo-French Entente Cordiale. The French contingent practicing in the forecourt of B.P. are with the Garde Républicaine, the military group responsible for law enforcement, security and ceremonial duties at national palaces in Paris. Basically it's a parade and a troop review; the Garde Républicaine won't be doing guard duty at B.P. That is a privilege restricted to select members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces.
@@e.chambers2973 and as french guy, for me it is a privilege the french troops being invited in U.K. i believe it is an honor for us.. french troop participating is a platoon of the 1st Regiment of the foot Republican Guard...

Ask them to stop the boats
Wtf should they?
@@composimmonite3918 Maybe because the British government and British taxpayer have been giving the French government hundreds of millions of pounds over the past several years to try and help with the problem at their end but there is something fishy going on anyway. If the British try and turn the boats around that'd be called a anti-humanitarian crime, met with endless screeching at home and abroad, and if the Royal Navy enter French territorial waters the French could get quite upset about it (and vice-versa) But the thing is, the British taxpayer literally does spend several tens of millions of pounds per year on the issue and nothing is happening. French ships do handovers with British ships in the middle of the English Channel. It's like a ferry service now. The British taxpayer's money is mostly being spent on completely different things, it's a scam.
Please do not interpret this as me being argumentative or unreasonable, I am just answering your rather strongly put question to the person whom commented.
It is absolutely beyond doubt that the situation is only getting worse and all the French have done is pretend to want to stop the problem. Clearly, the French don't want the migrants milling around in Calais etc either so they will actively try and nudge them into the UK.
However, illegal NGO's from _both_ the UK and France are flying in the face of the will of the public and aiding and abetting the human trafficking and subversion of British border enforcement, as well as flouting our nation openly. There are a lot of middle-class activists involved, whom don't care about Britain or France, whom just want infinity migrants to make themselves feel noble and righteous. If the British and French governments really wanted to stop it they could overnight. But they won't. Go figure.
All this Entente Cordiale stuff is lovely and everything and I approve of it strongly, as it's historically important and should be upheld, however, inevitably the political realities of the current era are unavoidable.

The French are smart but not too disciplined. They keep turning their heads and twitching plus they need hands on shoulder to determine standing distance, British troops never need this.
This is a rehearsal for something they'll do once, makes sense they'd not be perfect compared to Regiments that do it every day
Its important to note that the french unit that will be partaking is from the Garde Républicaine of the Gendarmerie, They're trained in both Civil and Military Policing and serve in a real security role, they're trained to look around and take note, similar to how the Foot and Horse Guards acted before their security duties were taken from them by Armed Police
