    Excellent.
Story reminds me of my dad, a builder who was my toughest boss.
As I followed him around (as a teenager) with the tools or the broom, he was a difficult task master.
And at the end of the day, he was just Dad handing me a burger and Coke.
He told me to use him as a "yardstick", the toughest boss I (should) ever have.
It felt unfair sometimes, and many years later, I still say he was unfair sometimes.
But any employer since then - well, the nice ones are a joy, and the tough ones, I think,
"You can't hold a candle, compared to my old man."
I laugh, and have a few tears, now.
At least my old man bought me a burger and Coke at the end of the day.
    Resilience.

How you do ANYTHING is how you do EVERYTHING. I always remind myself of this when I face challenges and roadblocks in life. I ask myself what is the best way to handle the situation where I keep my dignity and hold true to my values and beliefs. What I've learned, is that, taking the easy route just a few times to many will start to deteriorate you as a person in many ways.. Find out who you are and stay true to your course and always try to do whats right, and good things will start compounding. Thank you for another great story!

I want to share a thought I got on this too: In the Bible, Jobs test wasn’t whether he can restore all his fortune. Or how he will live the rest of his life in his new misery. The test was whether he would stick to Gods side while facing extreme adversity. Sometimes the test in life is something we cannot handle at all - we have no control whatsoever. But just by sticking to Gods side no matter what can be the way to pass the test.

Man at 62 I can say this is such sound advice. How you handle stress and problems is so important. I had to take care of my mom who had Parkinson’s. It was the hardest time in my life because of the love I had for her and seeing her suffering angered me. I had to check that anger to be at my best for her. Now that she’s gone 4 years I sleep so well knowing I rose to the occasion & controlled my anger & frustration at times for one reason and one reason only. My love for her over rode my own problems & how I reacted to those problems. I had to do things I never thought I’d be capable of. All out of pure love. Thank you Dwayne your messages are so valuable. I hope some young people tune in. I could of used this in my younger days. Merry Christmas 🎄 everyone.

Reminds me of that famous motif in the Star Trek series - ‘The Kobiyashi Maru’. The test that cannot be passed, because, as you say, the test is not the test. The real test is to see how you cope with failure, defeat, and in that case, certain death.
It’s the only test worth it’s salt because it’s easy to act well when you’re winning. It’s easy to proclaim good morality and values when you don’t have to sacrifice anything for them. When you don’t have to prove it.
You don’t know a man, you don’t even know yourself, until you’ve had that experience.

I put this video on for the drive after I finished a 12 hour shift. It really helped me understand my role better. I am a new grad nurse, just learning how to function when anything can happen in one shift. I'm realizing that there are days when as long as the patients are breathing and alive, it's a good day. It's impossible to get everything done. Prioritization is essential. The test is not about getting all those tasks done and all the little details in a row. The task is about keeping the patients alive and giving them the best outcome, all while juggling the needs of 1-6 people.

This video resonated with me, but I’m not sure how to get past that phase. Gritting my teeth in the hard times hasn’t helped lessen it, but it’s helped me survive. @@redstarling5171 I’ve got a good job and I own my home, I make decent money working in an industry I love at a job that makes an actual difference with people that I generally like with good, long-term career prospects even with all the kinda scary new AI stuff.
But the aftermath of losing my fiancée after being together for 5+ years, and then honestly struggling with staying sober, on top of not having any real support system, along with the state of the world and the uncertainty of the future… If I don’t have someone to brave the future with, it’s hard to see the point of putting myself through the struggle, and too many days I’ve been left just wanting to check out. When you wake up everyday not just mentally exhausted, but also kind of… angry? that you’ve actually woken up and you have to face another day?? It’s taxing after a while.
This is the test. But the test is NOT the test. It’s about how I respond to failing the test, and I’ve been failing and responding poorly. I need to figure out what responding correctly looks like. Part of that is probably trying to find male friends around my age. I don’t even know how people make friends nowadays, I don’t even have social media so I rarely get invited to events because people forget 😂 The earlier advice to “serve others” is probably good, volunteering would probably be a good way to meet good people with good hearts!

I hear you man, this was me 20 years ago. Sounds like you’re a tough cookie, a Survivor, but your brain is overwhelmed, not surprising.
We live in a world with so much fake reality, we’re constantly bombarded with doom and gloom in the world and in contrast shown images on social media of “successful” people with tons of friends, money and a wonderful lifestyle, very little of it is actually real and only serves to leave so many people alienated and feeling like a failure when in their lives they are going through hell and often completely alone.
Thing is many, many people feel exactly the same but we just cant see it. My advice and I hope with all my heart you take it is unplug from all that is fake, social media, TV, toxic people, it only serves to harm you.
Find a situation where you can meet real people face to face, volunteering, charities, church etc. and if necessary be upfront, admit to them you may not have the sharpest social skills anymore and you will find real, good people respect that and it instantly starts to break down the barriers. You are strong, someone somewhere will take inspiration from your strength and experience, value your friendship, you have a lot to offer the world. 😊👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

This video could not have been posted at a better time than right now. I am in college right now and many others just like me are about to start taking final exams for the end of the semester. This is the time where students stress so hard about the outcomes of their exams and final projects that they find it hard to prioritize things, and instead keep worrying that they will fail a class, test, project, etc. Just like you said, the "test" (final exam) isn't really the test. The "test" is really to challenge you to prioritize what needs to be prioritized such as what topics to study on what days, and it also challenges you to make time management paramount. So many kids in their early 20's like myself worry so much about failing, and what the product of failing is. To me, "failing" means that you didn't try at all. If you give it your all, and still don't do well on the final exam, you didn't fail. Grades don't define anything about you. What defines you is what you did to achieve those grades.

I’m one to get all the work done end of the day or week and with the sudden quitting I was now the head I wasn’t expecting to be, but bosses expected of me. It’s been a mountain to climb and things haven’t been getting done as quickly as I’d prefer because of the new tasks but I’ve been slow to realize the same - I was focused on the wrong test. Turns out, what hasn’t gotten done as quickly didn’t matter to the bosses, they recognized I took the unexpected and made sure the team and the priorities were taken care of at the least. Finally got some big praise from the shareholders after months of beating myself up I wasn’t doing enough. Turns out, I was focused on the wrong test and doing a solid job all along.

Hey Dewayne, I'm not one to comment much on TH-cam, but I felt it was high time I did. I just want to express my gratitude for the work you do. You might not fully realize the profound impact you're having.
Since I discovered your channel around a year ago, I've undergone a significant transformation. I've become a much more composed individual. Now, "calm" is a broad term, and its effects ripple through various aspects of daily life. If I were to delve into specifics, this comment would turn into a 4000-word essay, but that's not my intention.
Just keep doing what you're doing. Your efforts are truly appreciated, and there's a lot of love coming your way.

This resonates with me. I worked in marketing in Africa for 5 years. And the volume of work+problems would mean that you had to fail some projects. But it wasnt about winning the game, it was about winning the season, and just like the story about ironing the shirt, you just had to learn to take some losses. Great vidéo as always, thanks Dwayne!

    Hey, Dwayne,
I enjoy watching your videos on repeat every day. Some of the examples I may disagree with but I agree with the concept behind them.
Thanks to the internet, I can find brave, weathered men who are there to make videos as though they are my friends.
I am learning from you, feeling inspired by you, and at 27 years of age, I have learnt that I am the product of my environment and I only want to listen to brave, strong people.
The video you have "Do not go gentle" resonates with me on a personal level. I started a new life all by myself nearly three years ago now and now I see staying caged in a the fake comfort of a home is a paralysing prison for a man.
The video "You can but will you?" is so true. I have made progress and broken barriers because I have chosen to step and forward at times in my life where it took courage. That is what separates men. Risk comes with consequences but there is no growth without it.
Your video "When you don't have it together" is gold, pure wisdom."
To me, you have intense yet kind eyes; there is no hint of duplicity in your eyes. You are a kind man by nature who is also capable of going on a hunt. Experience has shown me that people of this type are the kindest.
I am also climbing my own mountains as a man and love listening to men like you along the way.
PS You have also mentioned Jordan Peterson. I have been reading him and about him for years and my studies are a bit related to his. I will just say that he is not someone I would consider an intellectual. He is more of a laundry detergent to sell products and now anyone who wants to sell a book, goes on a tour with him. Because of this, they also protect him.
I will give you an analogy. He is like someone who carries a gun around people in a city where no one has seen a gun. He sometimes aims and shoots well. He also knows a thing or two about the details of the gun. However, when you take him to a place where real gunslingers live, when you put him in front of a real gunslinger, you see he does not have anything to shoot.
Thanks for your videos and please keep it up!
I will also put one thing you said on my wall, "You can't catch a horse physically if you haven't caught him mentally."
Hope you see this and I hope this finds you well!
    Love,
    Farid

I was talking to a coworker today about Army Basic training. I went in older than most of my peers, so I had already been through hardships. Young soldiers usually aren't ready for the diversity but at the end of the day it isn't that hard if you just live to fight another day.

Been through the police academy, for anyone worried about the police academy and what's to come, listen to this man. Been there for 5 months and it's exactly this. Breathe. You will succeed. A wrinkle in your shirt? You'll still be a good cop. Your bed corners aren't folded at a 90 degree angle, but a 85 degree angle? Dont worry, you'll still be a good cop. You made some mistakes in your life? Breathe. Own up to your mistakes, take a step back and look at the bigger picture. You will be a good cop and a better person. Love from 🇨🇦

_...for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me._ If only the thought preceding vs 13 was more commonly known- the hermeneutics pull it together properly. Today's talk reminded me of this- wisdom is wisdom- whether we face hardship, failure, ruin, despair- or any of the "opposite blessings", there is still the One who sustains all if we hold our focus.

The great head football coach of Notre Dame, Ara Parseghian basically said the same thing. His players would ask him if they were tuff enough. He would answer the question with "I'm not sure, it's all how you handle the diversity as you go through life." "It's not what happens to you, it's how you work your way through it that matters the most."
