Agree with you 100%. You can try to show people the right path, but you can't walk down it and fight their battles for them. If you do that then all you do is make them weaker from it by robbing them of the struggle it takes to overcome hardship.

Thank you Dewayne. I'm 22 and have felt pretty lost for a while now because honestly I'm definitely one of these babies that need to face life and walk it off. I forgive my parents for their shortcomings but understand that even though they're kind good honest people sometimes that gentle comfort isn't what one needs, it prevents the important lesson of struggling and proving your worth to yourself. I want to make a change and grow into the man I know I can be, and I know it's going to be tough but tough is just what I need. I'm gonna do it, even though right now it feels scary for me to suck it up and move on with my life I'm promising to myself that I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna get back up, and fail, and get back up again.

I hear you Santomar, I'm a 32 year old guy who lost his popsicle-giving mother to cancer nearly two years ago now, and I really relate to having been a baby craving to be picked up everytime I have fallen. Now I have to try and face the grief of my mothers death and the loss of the main popsicle provider in my life. It's been a rough two years but I have also felt that having that seemingly eternal motherly comfort being snatched from you is what is making the man in me starting to grow for real.

Thank you for your responses guys, hope ya'll are doing well. I've had my fair share of setbacks these last couple of months and won't bore with details and self-pity, but I finally got a job and feel like it will really help with accountability. It's not a great job, it's just a job and I'm taking it as such, an opportunity to exercise commitment. It's the first step to becoming consistent, just putting in the effort and showing up when you're supposed to and doing what you're supposed to, every day. I don't have much else to say other than for the first time I feel the need of putting my free time to use and build better habits, not just wait around and starie at my phone or following whatever flimsy impulse I have until it bores me. Time is all we have and I'm finally learning that, I won't lie down and wait for things to happen. So yeah. Thanks again for responding to my original comment, it actually meant a lot that you took the time to read what I wrote and share some words with me.

Just make sure if you fail, you dont stop. Recenter, analyze what/why/how things went wrong, find at least one solution and most importantly ACT. Failing to get back on the horse can lead you down the road of stagnation and eventually towards focusing on regrets and "what could have been", unless you nip it in the bud. You'll fail. Everyone does. It's part of being human, but what we do after failure that is often times more important than any success we could have achieved on that particular goal. Tenacity, or determination if you will, will take you further in life than most any skill or mindset out there.

I’m going to send this one to a friend, I’m not willing to put a band aid on what he’s going through because I’m not going to enable my friends to be weak and say everything is okay when it’s not, but maybe he can find some new courage in what you have to say.

I feel this was going wrong with my mom. She always wanted attention for her struggles. If you didn’t had time she would get angry and acting out way worse with self harm and push it into your face and told you look what you have done. If she hadn’t someone to talk to for a few hours she then complained that everyone let her down. Had many sleepless nights while growing up because she needed full time attention. If there was something with me? She had it worse. I felt burned out all the time. After I quit contact. She got way worse after grandma died. The burden got 10 times worse. After I said no she broke my hand out of spite. Because she wanted to take the things I love away. I love to draw and playing music.
After that I thought this was the last straw. I packed up everything and was on my way. Lived in a squatting home. And she got worse and trying to contact me and control me. I kept saying no because it wasn’t helping to help her. She doesn’t wanted to learn how to stand on her own feet. After a while she started using heroine. And blamed everyone that she started using. Because people didn’t help her enough. At that time people finally started to understand what the burden was to he her full time care taker. Because at first they got angry at me for letting her down. Eventually everyone let her down because it was a full time job.
It got to a place that she kept on nearly killing herself for attention. And blamed everyone that they weren’t in time to stop her. That nobody quited their job to lay next to her and comfort her full time.
Eventually she died by abusing her body way to much for attention.
It’s a pretty sad story. But sadly a true one. Some people you can’t helpt without losing yourself. And I’m still learning to let people go down that path.
It’s not helpful to push yourself to oblivion for helping someone. People need to learn it sometimes the hard way. Sometimes they need you out of there lives to grow. And that is hard. And sometimes it goes wrong. But it isn’t your fault. Nobody is made to save the world. Sometimes kindness is accepting that it is what it is.
I needed to save myself. Get myself in to therapy. And grow. I also needed to do it on my own. Because nobody can help you with the internal struggle, only someone can save their selfs.
There is a different between supporting and enabling. It’s a fine line between them. And it ain’t easy. Life isn’t easy. And that is also the beauty in it.

This is exactly the way my parents and my grandparents raised me. Especially my grandparents. My grandparents were raised in the depression and survived WW2. They would do the same thing if I fell or got hurt. They would say crying gets you know where. Getting up and trying again is the only way to get there. I was never spoiled had to buy my on first first truck a 77 f100. It made me appreciate everything I bought myself. Made me the man I am today. Sadly this world does not get enough tough love. It sure would make it a better place. The cigar while watching this sage advice is a Cain Daytona. As always another great vid.

I've heard people say "if you constantly help someone, you're taking away their own lesson and strength, and it's a bit selfish".

Before work she would leave him a 30 pack of beer and leave cash on the counter for smokes for the day after 2 years of that he fell off a snowmobile and had a heart attack. My nephew fell down and was visibly panicked. In our culture (pakistani/muslim) which is mostly abusive, you get in more trouble for being in pain than the pain itself. He was visibly shaken and was not asking for help. I went over to him to calm him down and make sure he was ok. When he realized he could trust me enough to breathe a sigh of relief, he did, and then was ok to play again without requiring coddling. His mom came over and just said "he's fine he's a big boy". When children aren't properly loved in the first place, there's no such thing as "tough love", it's abuse.
I agree with everything Dewayne said but adding this on to say that each situation is unique and requires the appropriate response according to that situation.

Only 2 other parents were NOT amazed by the fact that my kids didnt panic and need medical help for a basic bicycle accident. The rest were all up in arms and mad that I didnt go off the deep end. I remember clearly there was this commercial for the comedy series "Malcolm in the middle". Little Malcolm and his brother (probably 6-7) sat at the port in the lake splashing with their feet. Al walked up to them. He threw one of them off to the lake, "Time to learn swimming", then he threw the other one, "Time to save your brother". That has really stuck by me and I took that approach with my son.
I dumped my boy to work in a garage for summer/part-time job as early legal age (14) as possible. That has set off the his entire attitude to life. It's amazing to see how your kid to ride/plan/risk the journey at very young age.

    I believe in balance.
And that every person's story is unique.
I appreciate the tough love message -- I also think it is important to be open-minded and to consider differences and the complexity of the whole.
Some lost people come from broken homes where there was no support for them, they had to be the support. They had to grow up too fast.
For me, it all comes back to the rule of balance.
I greatly appreciate all you share.
    ✌️❤️

I definitely needed kindness gentleness and support. Tough love in my opinion can be a form of emotional abuse. Not calling you abusive but tough love has never ever worked for me. It's made me feel horrible. It made me feel unloved, unwanted and now that I've grown, hated.

I was one of those babies for a long time, took some of the worst pain I ever felt, loss, grief, you name it, then I woke up one day and realized I am actually ok, as long as I don't act like I'm not. If no one taught me how to be a man then I will teach myself with God's guidance. Today I will do things simply because I don't want to, simply because it makes me afraid, or whatever it is. If you're still alive, then everything is fine, have faith. I love you man and you help keep me grounded as well. Thank you.

My Dad made a lot of bad parenting decisions, but he taught me how to box. Whenever you block a punch with your face, get it together and tear on in to your opponent ten times harder than before. Don't ever give up. What ever you do in life after that, that applies.
