  • Welcome to offthejeepend! in this video, we will change the trans fluid on our 200k mile XJ, "original trans"!!! The transmission fluid was very dark but we had no other choice but to try and save the old auto trans! with some help from Lucas trans fluid, we try to bring this jeep back to shifting glory and squeeze the remaining life out of it, to see the auto trans in action skip to the end for the results and see if it is right for you! 200k mile Jeep Xj Stay Jeepin!!!

    This transmission requires Dexron, while the 42RE / A500SE which replaced the Aisin-Warner transmission midway in the 1993 model year needs ATF+4. Again, if you are confused, you may just want to try one of the new universal fluids that is both Dexron and ATF+4 compatible.

    Drain and fill never hurts. Just don’t flush it. Flushing it out takes all the metal fragments out of the clutch pack,which might be the only reason it has friction.

      Yes definitely, I can't stand auto transmission I'm hoping to get this swapped over to a 5 speed

    You should probably drain it as soon as possible and put the correct Dex/Mercon in

      That all sounds correct, I think the fluid was supposed to be safe to use for it. Regardless it's got over 200k and is half filled with Lucas trans fix. If the trans flatlined today, it will get me to finally buy a manual trans for the jeep. I appreciate the info as well!

      Thank you and the previous owner got the jeep with 130k and never changed the fluid while owning it. So over 100k I'm assuming hahah

      Its dexiii for the aw4 take that bad advice bullshit somewhere else.

  • @mikecarr1484
    @mikecarr1484 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are supposed to use atf type 4. If you didn't you just phucked up. You can use Lucas all day long but must be atf type 4 not universal type. You just destroyed what was left of you transmission

    • @dw6999
      @dw6999 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not in the AW4 transmissions. They use Dex III.
