For me, Jeff Goldblum’s performance is easily one of the best in any horror film I’ve seen. The way his mannerisms evolve over the course of the film to resemble The Fly and how heartbreaking he becomes by the time it’s too late is what sticks with me
The fly doesn't take hold immediately because it's mass is so much smaller than Brundle, whereas the door of the pod is more equal. Think about if you place a small drop of food colouring into water, it will slowly disperse into the water eventually colouring it all over time. Whereas if you drop in a shot glass worth it will colour the water immediately.
I think it's pretty futile to try to explain how it works because almost nothing teleportation-related makes any sense in this movie. If Brundle's computer has the unpleasant habit of not reproducing the original presented to him exactly as it finds it, why did it cross Brundle with this specific fly of all things? It could just as well have genetically combined him with every single-celled organism in the telepod. Or even more obviously: It could have taken the approximately 4 cubic meters of air that are in the pod and made a gigantic meat balloon or whatever out of Brundle. The "artificial" taste of the steak, which was previously teleported, cannot be explained either. With the piece of meat, the computer apparently made no mistake and arranged the molecules correctly. In this case, it shouldn't taste any different than the original. Please don't get me wrong. I loved this film as a child and I still do, but not only from a physical point of view but also from a purely logical one it is nonsense. 😁 Sorry for my clumsy English, I don't speak it that often. 🙂
@ Well firstly I wasn’t explaining exactly ‘how’, more simply the ethos around why there was a difference in timing. In regards to your points on single celled organisms and the air in the pod, it’s pretty logical that the computer would have had to be programmed to account for naturally occurring ‘background noise’ in order to identify subjects within the pod. Even if it did somehow try to combine the air, the pods aren’t air tight, so it wouldn’t be possible for the computer to achieve that outcome as it can’t create a vacuum in the pod. It’s logical it would be programmed to ensure a breathable atmosphere remained to ensure test subjects survived. The steak point is discussed in the movie, he posits that the steak has been recreated not transported. As such it isn’t the same steak. Twins are biologically identical… doesn’t make them the same person. But more to the point, it’s a movie… it doesn’t need to be scientifically flawless.
@@tubekulose Maybe it did combine him with single celled organisms in the pod but since they're microscopic a much bigger organism like a fly manifested in Brundle first. As for the steak Brundle said the teleportation of flesh was not perfected yet which means although the streak appeared identical maybe whatever elements that determined the steak's taste didn't go through correctly. Regardless nobody knows enough about the science of teleportation yet to say if the movie's telepod device made sense or not.
Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis got married a year after the movie's release but called it quits in 1992. He even dated Laura Dern while they were filming JURASSIC PARK, but ended the relationship in 1997.

@misschiefmanager6670 I think it's considered a great remake now. The special effects are pretty great. The changes in usual movie cliches are great. The good guy dies, so does the hero sheriff who believes in the bad boy drop out. Even an innocent kid. It's different, but in the best way.
Cronenberg tried out four different epilogue scenes but wasn't satisfied with any of them, so he finally gave up and decided nothing could follow the actual death of Brundle.

They built a tumbling room for Brundle to crawl around on the ceiling as they glued and nailed down everything to create the effect. The two iconic lines in this movie were, “be afraid, be very afraid” and “Help me! Help me be human.” The “help me” line was also from the original “The Fly” movie. That was a good one too.
If you are old enough to recall the days of audiocassette tape, you may remember a commercial aired beginning in 1971 for a company called Memorex, which asked the question, “Is it Live or is it Memorex?” In the commercial Ella Fitzgerald sang a note that shattered a wine glass while her voice was being recorded on a Memorex tape. When they played the tape Ella’s voice still shattered a glass. 🍷
The guy he arm wrestled in the movie is George Chuvalo, former heavyweight boxer. Chuvalo fought Muhammad Ali twice, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, etc. In 93 professional fights, he was never knocked down once.
The Fly is my all time favorite body horror. I always see the film as a body horror/tragedy. The practical effects and fly makeup is so amazing. I also love the music.
This is one of my all-time favorite films. There are many very beautiful pictures of my wife but there is one that is my all-time favorite and it is a candid photo of her jaw on the floor watching the climax of this film for the first time and I think about it all the time. This movie is absolutely brilliant.
A great tragedy story ends at the tragedy. It leaves the audience feeling....tragic. This is one of the best tragedy stories of all time and the ending is perfect.
Great reaction, this is one of my old time favorite movies, i got it from a video rental when it came on VHS (dating myself). I remember watching a Fly 2 and even 3.
6:26 She's flirting so much! lol The stocking makes perfect sense!!! haha The chemistry between Davis and Goldblum was so strong! BTW The Memorex slogan was originally for their blank audio recording tapes. But yeah the company also did recordable video tapes.
I need this "dinamic duo" do more reactions The Fly 2 is not as good as the first one but it have some good moments and really great special effects and make up
There's a conversation to be had about actors who stop acting and just start being exaggerated versions of themselves in films. I love Jeff Goldblum, but this was back when he actually performed. Now, he goes hard on what people call the Goldbulm-isms. But if you watch his early stuff, he's an incredible actor when he really goes in for a performance. Not that he's not good in his recent performances, but pretty much after The Lost World: Jurassic Park, he started leaning into the Goldblum-isms.
Chris Walas. The man behind the fly creature effects of this movie. Feels either poetic or ironic that four years after The Fly, he moved on to another insect-related film called Arachnophobia.
Where did they get the idea that this was a comedy? 😂 I saw this when it came out in ‘86. I was fairly familiar with Cronenberg, so I was kind of expecting what was coming. 80s horror movies pre-CGI were a trip.

Roxy and Coy are a great team. Love them 😂😂
Bostonnn forever
Guess what! We need more of Coy/Roxy! The duo I always wanted and the pay off is everything!
Did you know Jim Carry was in a movie with Goldblum and Davis called "Earth Girls Are Easy" he's one of the aliens.
Love this duo!
Haven't even pushed play yet and I already know this is gonna be a banger reaction! The Fly is such a good movie!! 10/10 Goldblums!
Been following you two since the movie news podcast days. So glad to have you both together again
This is one of my all-time favorite films. There are many very beautiful pictures of my wife but there is one that is my all-time favorite and it is a candid photo of her jaw on the floor watching the climax of this film for the first time and I think about it all the time. This movie is absolutely brilliant.
Love this movie! I'm excited i get to see your reaction
Both Davis and Goldblum deserved at least an Oscar nomination. What an injustice!
A great tragedy story ends at the tragedy. It leaves the audience feeling....tragic. This is one of the best tragedy stories of all time and the ending is perfect.
One of the best movies with one of the best more fun reviews!
The ban is lifted 😂 I enjoy all the talking
I adore the Brundle-Fly!
This is a remake of the original 1958 The Fly starring Vincent Price. You can’t watch this without seeing the original
It's not a horror it's a tragic love story.
It is horrific and tragic.
It can be both!
This is the first Goldblum I ever knew. Saw this at the theater as a 14 yr old in 1986. Best SFX since The Thing in '82.
The Fly II wasn’t terrible, and you find out what happened to her baby.
Great reaction, this is one of my old time favorite movies, i got it from a video rental when it came on VHS (dating myself). I remember watching a Fly 2 and even 3.
I would imagine he taught the computer how to splice people together immediately, and unfortunately, the telepath was open when he teleported
I don’t know why in the world you two were put in probation. I like you two together.
6:26 She's flirting so much! lol The stocking makes perfect sense!!! haha The chemistry between Davis and Goldblum was so strong! BTW The Memorex slogan was originally for their blank audio recording tapes. But yeah the company also did recordable video tapes.
Why is everything considered camp, do the ones saying it even know what it means.
I think anytime they don’t understand what’s going on . . . . blame it on “camp”
I need this "dinamic duo" do more reactions
The Fly 2 is not as good as the first one but it have some good moments and really great special effects and make up
There's a conversation to be had about actors who stop acting and just start being exaggerated versions of themselves in films.
The special effects in this version are very advanced compared to the original with Vincent Price. I still love the original it's a classic.
Need more Roxy and Coy reactions!
Agreed
Roxy will love this movie😂. I saw it very recently
Roxy is realllyyyyy being put through some TOUGH films for our viewing pleasure 😅🙈
