Yep! He's saying "It's an imitation of a dog! Get away from it you Idiots!" It's so obvious something is not right, but everyone is just so in love with the pretty dog lol
John Carpenter knew that the majority of people watching this movie wouldn't understand the language, so he had no issues with having that line in the beginning of the movie. It's kinda genius, tbh. But that guy doesn't help his credibility with his actions. Even if the scientists understood what he was saying, guy shows up with a rifle shooting and ends up hitting one of them instead of the dog and then starts chucking a granade. By just his behavior, he wouldn't have been believed.

It kind of puzzles me that every reactor initially sides with the dog. When I first saw The Thing, I remember thinking "They must have a good reason for wanting that dog dead." I've yet to find a reaction video on the same page.
@@calhoffman6704 - That's pretty open-minded of you. Respect on that. I leaned more towards your view the first time seeing this film, especially when the dog ( masterfully acted ) was lurking down the hall looking for victims to infect/bite.
I've noticed a lot of reactors say the Norwegian is a lousy shot. Hitting a moving target from a helicopter is a lot more difficult than people think it is. Especially a small target like the dog. This is why the military uses machine guns or mini guns to "spray" an area from above.

A cool detail is Norris already had a bad heart before he was absorbed. When the Thing copies you, it copies you perfectly. Real Norris had a heart condition, which means the Thing organism copied his defective heart. It probably doesn’t know or even consider a defective heart from a healthy one when forming the copy. It simply copies its prey as best it can in order to blend in with the group, including any abnormalities. Whether that’s a defective heart, deformities, old injuries, missing limbs, etc. Flaws and all are copied. Norris Thing had a real heart attack at 42:03 because that’s what a defective heart would naturally do under the extreme stress of the situation. The biology of a perfect imitation. The defibrillator shocks later on were likely perceived as an attack and forced Norris Thing to break it’s camouflage in order to defend itself.
Well put. The Thing is a cellular hive-mind. On a cellular level (blood,) it reacts instinctively. However, its functionality is to replicate an organism. If the system of the organism it's replicating fails, it will "die." This is why the "dead" remains don't fight back or try to escape whilst being carried to the burn pile. But the defibrillator was seen as an attack at a cellular level, and it hyperreacted.
@SirBroadcast Moreover, Carpenter's story is extremely faithful to the source material, written in 1938. It's astounding that this concept is that old. The idea feels fresh even in 2024.
I would add that possibly original Norris had a pacemaker installed and when he was absorbed and then replicated, the pacemaker was not replicated. Thus, leaving Norris Thing more vulnerable to his heart condition.
😂At least they picked up something wasn't right in the hallway scene (fantastic dog actor seriously) I've seen some reactors have no suspicions get completely blindsided when the dog's face opens up lol. I remember the first time I watched this I thought the dog could be rabid or something when they guy was chasing it shooting, I was confused as to why but didn't think he was doing it for fun or no reason so I was sus of it already.
Love it,absolutely love it😸The dog and Norris scenes ALWAYS get to reactors.Rob Bottin should have got an Oscar for his effects work. The man was a genius. He should have done the practical effects for the 2011 prequel.Instead they used CGI effects😿
I'm honestly surprised how many people initially go with "oh no, poor puppy" instead of assuming there's a reason for it. Like, guys we all love dogs but don't you think the scene is suspicious af?
I remember that. In '82, this movie was savaged and ripped to shreds by critics and audiences stayed away. People wanted feel good alien movies like E.T. This film is now (deservedly) considered a masterpiece of horror way ahead of it's time.
Myself and every guy I knew LOVED this movie and we all saw it multiple times. WE knew how awesome and groundbreaking it was and how unbelievably stupid and short-sighted the critics were.
That was just from critics. It mainly failed because it was released like a week or 2 after ET. It exploded in popularity on home media, becoming an instant cult classic.
33:38 - Okay, so: my favorite bit that people always seem to miss on the first watch. How did the Thing get to the stored blood, when the only two people with access to it (Copper and Gary) are both human? At 26:21, the dialogue is cut off in the reaction, but you can hear Bennings say, “Get ’em from Gary…” to Windows. He asking for another reason, but he wants to use the same keyring that grants access to the stored blood. When Windows comes back with the keys and finds Bennings in the process of being absorbed, you can hear him drop the keyring at 27:26. Presumably, one of the Things found the keys later and used it to get to the blood. Bennings-Thing probably didn’t have time to it, so it would have to be either Norris or Palmer, whichever one has been turned by this point. During the argument over the keys, Windows begins slowly backing out of the room at 34:03. He’s realized it’s only a matter of time before Gary remembers giving the keys to him, and he’s worried the mob mentality taking hold will target him, so he makes a break for the guns to defend himself.
Every year during the first snow of winter, I go outside late at night and sit in my shed freezing my ass off, drinking J&B rare scotch, and watch this. It's become my own little tradition, it's really immersive considering I live in Kansas, out in the middle of nowhere with nobody around for miles.
I totally would put this on. I watch this movie every winter at least a few times, as well as The Shining, good winter flicks. If I had a dollar for every time I watched The Thing since 82...lol
There have been debates for over 40 years whether or not MacReady and/or Childs is the thing at the end. And lots of people have made really interesting theories about who got infected when, but the film was made so cleverly that it’s pretty impossible to know for sure with every character. A masterpiece for a reason. 👏
I prefer ambiguity but I think at the time Carpenter intended Childs to be the alien. Saw a video explaining that the shot of the empty hallway sort of hints he was infected because a coat is missing that used to be there (it tears through your clothes when it absorbs you). Still, I think ambiguity is the point.
John Carpenter's: The Thing is one of my favorite movies. I watched it since i was a kid and i have probably watched it over a 100 times. About 2 years ago i realized something. When Windows goes and checks in with Bennings and he sees Bennings being taken over by the thing, you can hear Windows drop the keys. So later when they descover that someone had open the freezer and destroyed all the bloodbags, Windows gets scared because he was the last person who used the keys. Who picked up the keys is a mystery. A nice little detail i found out for a movie i loved for many years. Nice reaction vid! Keep 'em coming!
Same, I’ve watched this so many times and have watched a ton of videos analyzing it too. Breaking down each scene to try and see who the Thing was is so much fun.
Consider this: The thing attacked Bennings. They all chased the Bennings-thing outside. But the thing that had Bennings had gone its own way, and probably finished changing into the norwegian guy it had previously been assimilating before it had been burned by the norwegians. Or it also may have become Bennings. So I'm picturing the norwegian guy with the keys, raiding the blood, and then going somewhere to hide. Maybe it changed into some other form after.
28:03 That howl scared the everliving shit out of me when I stumbled upon this movie at night when I was home alone as a 13 year old kid in the early 90's. It's one of those scenes that have never left me.
my interpretation of the ending is they were both not the thing but they also both died that night to prevent it from possibly spreading. Ik there is an ending they planned to do that explains it way more but the ambiguous ending is honestly iconic. Fits so well for a movie all about the anxiety of not being able to trust anyone even the main character
One of the more interesting theories about the ending is that Childs is actually The Thing. When Mac is sitting with him at the end, you can clearly see his breath. When Childs is speaking, you can’t see his breath at all. I don’t know how correct the theory is, but I thought it was a great detail.
@@TheLisa-Al-Gaib it’s literally not confirmed or denied in anyway that child’s is actually the thing this is something you’ve pulled from your cheeks. The thing can perfectly mimic a human or animal but can’t mimic breathing? seriously where is the logic. If that is true it’s very likely a production error not a hint 💀
I thought so too. And they figured that since they'd already burned down the camp and all ways of communication, there wasn't any way for them to live anyway.
@@TheLisa-Al-Gaib and the theory is Mac tests Childs by giving him alcohol as the thing wouldnt drink it. Then again the thing wants to freeze so it can sleep they said so if either is the thing they can just wait for the other to die of the cold while you just go to sleep again
In the first autopsy the guy didn't say the creature was normal he was just commenting on what he found, which was just a single set of human organs which was supposed to highlight how odd this conjoined twin looking creature was.
God I love this movie, the practical effects + the suspense are just unmatched. Lord of the Rings and The Thing are by far my most watched reactions, I swear by now I've seen almost every one I can find on youtube. The movies are just that good that I truely enjoy experiencing them over and over again with new people!
The first time I saw this was on VHS at a friend's house... then I drove home at 2AM in a blizzard, in the middle of nowhere Canada! Longest 12 miles ever! lol
My dad and I saw this movie on my 16th birthday in 1982, which was its pre-opening day. They gave out The Thing t-shirts, which was cool. I recall about, maybe, 20 people in the theater. During the dog scene, several women in the audience screamed in horror, and about half the audience walked out. As a young couple in front of us was walking out, the young lady was hitting her boyfriend (or husband) so The Thing is definitely NOT a date movie. That night, the local CBS affiliate in Dallas reviewed The Thing and absolutely savaged the film. So yeah, the film bombed. But if one could think of a film from the 20th century that people will still be watching a thousand years from now, it won't be Titanic, or the Sound of Music, or Gone With the Wind or whatever...it will be The Thing from 1982.
The actor who played Childs (Keith David) still works a lot today especially voice work. When I watched an episode of Rick and Morty, I immediately recognized his voice. He plays the President of the United States on the show.
Modern directors need to watch this movie to learn about earned jump scares. There's always separate tension, something else drawing the eye- Mac holding dynamite talking about being attacked while he sleeps- and then, abruptly, the belly mouth. Mac specifically says it could only have been one person who messed with the blood- then the other blood he's testing jumps out of the petri dish. It's masterful misdirection.
This is my top fav horror movie. Tarantino said it best when he said the paranoia/tension is so high it has no where else to go than breaking the 4th wall and to the viewer.
Rob Bottin, the 21 or 22 yr old make-up artist who worked on this film, is responsible for all the creature effects (minus one puppet made by Stan Winston). This movie put him on the map for creature effects and prosthetics.
My #1 Favorite John Carpenter Movie! Critics tore this movie apart, calling it "Boring, Dull, A Wretched Excess, and One hell of an antidote for ET" which came out 2 weeks later. The film was a box office failure, making $19 million dollars against a $15 million dollar budget. The Dog Kennel Sequence was done by Oscar Winning VFX artist Stan Winston, as Rob Bottin fell ill with pneumonia and a bleeding ulcer as he ate and drank Snickers bars and coca cola every day until he got the VFX right. The sounds of The Thing when it transforms are that of alligators crocodiles, bears, rattlesnakes, horses, pigs squealing, and human screams played backwards or slowed down to make it sound otherworldly and terrifying. The film is now a cult classic and has been regarded as one of John Carpenter's best movies ever made.
Thx much for telling us how the Thing scream was made...been a massive fan of this flick for nearly 4 decades now (sheesh lofl?!) & had never heard the story before. ❤
The soundtrack was nominated for a Razzie award. Funny enough, years later unused scores from the film were used in The Hateful Eight (a slightly similar premise just no alien) and that soundtrack won an Oscar.
I was just debating what horror movie to show my husband for the first time and this was at the top of my list…. Thanks for giving me that final confirmation! ❤
The blob and the fly are amazing and gory beyond belief. While The Thing 2011 prequel isnt as good as the original and the studio covered all the practical effects with cgi, its decent overall.
Very bad Norwegian it is - then again, the actor is German. As a Swede I usually have no problems understanding Norwegian, but the only word I hear is "idiot".
not the entire plot, idk why tf people always complain about this, it literally give you the smallest possible information possible “hey that dog isn’t a dog” ok? you find out not even 15 minutes later that something may be up with the dog, it’s really not that big of a deal
Based on the story "Who Goes There" by John W Campbell which has a similar open ending. This is actually a remake of the 1951 movie THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD which has James Arness as the "Thing" (of Gunsmoke TV series fame). It does away with the imitation plot as The Thing is a vegetable-like creature which uses plasma to grow little things in a greenhouse. The story takes place up north and has the similar storyline of the military snd scientists discovering a spaceship frozen in the ice. They use thermal bombs to uncover the flying saucer which blows up and throws the "Thing" away from the ship. The crew takes the block of ice back to camp and of course the Thing awakes and attacks the military and scientists at the camp. The opening title of this version of the Thing is basically the same as the 1951 version only the 1951 opening is in black and white.
This is my favorite film of all time. That first "bum bum" when "Antarctica, 1982" pops up always gives me goosebumps to this day. 19:19 The toothed "FLOWER" that comes out on this part was the dog's tongues with their teeth. Also, if you're planning on doing The Fly and The Blob, make sure it's the 80s remakes. David Cronenberg Chuck Russell and Frank Darabont killed it with The Fly and The Blob remakes
The Fly and the Blob are surely one of the best remakes out there, and surpasses their original movie in everything. I myself consider the '82 Thing not as a remake of the '51, it's more of a retelling of the original story by Campbell.
I think my favorite part of this reaction is at 42:53 when the comment is "WTF, this is new!", because actually it's over 42 years old, but you're only seeing it for the first time in 2024. Great reaction!
This is from a 1938 story called "Who Goes There?" This is the 2nd time it was made into a movie. The first was the 1951 movie "The Thing From Another World." It's a great movie and Carpenter was a big fan of it.
It's been theorized that the thing go on or broke free on another good alien species ship in the beginning and killed them hence why the ship crashed. Also Blair is a hero and didn't get infected till he was put in the shed alone because somebody got to him then. You can see he was about to hang himself but one of the things got to him first hence why his personality completely changed.
That was my theory as well. This type of alien creature doesn't exactly seem like the type that would have the technology or inclination to build an intergalactic space ship. It's more like a conscious disease. I think it's more likely that it infected the actual alien species that navigated the ship, and slowly took the ship over. That's probably why it crashed into earth. Yes, Blair got infected in the shed. When they put him out there, he was paranoid and hostile. When Mac goes to check on him he's apologetic and pleading to go inside, but a noose is clearly visible. He was planning on hanging himself before the thing got him.

Fun fact: the opening credit sequence where The Thing burns into the screen is lifted from the 1950s adaptation of this story "The Thing from Another World" made by classic movie legend Howard Hawks. John Carpenter really liked that film and recognized that it was such a kick-ass opening...that was his way of paying homage.
Keith David is iconic, voiced so many great characters but one of my childhood favorites is Goliath from Gargoyles animated series (like in my top 3 favorite animated shows as a kid along with Batman and X-men the animated series).
2:55 - it should be noted that winter South of the equator is in the middle of the year meaning this took place from May-July, thus NOT a Christmas movie.
at 31:12 Childs is played by Keith David who is well known for many things, my personal favorites include Captain Anderson from the Mass Effect video game series as well as The Arbiter from the Halo video game series
This is a near-perfect movie. That being said, I think it would be better if they cut the saucer scene from the beginning of the movie (and from the beginning of Predator too). You shouldn't be thinking aliens until they find it crashed later.
I can see the actors in the movie questioning why theyre shooting at a dog but reactors know they are watching a HORROR MOVIE they should assume theres something wrong with it
It's like they "speculate". But none of it is really based on whats happening in the movie. They make huge assumptions (also assuming they'd be a better shot is funny). @@charlesbecker934

“He’s a terrible shot” You ever try shooting a moving target from a moving helicopter? 😂😂 It’s crazy how many reactors say this and have CLEARLY never shot a gun.
Shooting a moving, nimble target from a stationary position is difficult enough! Well, the shooting isn't difficult. Actually hitting it definitely is!
Plus... The pilot and the shooter were both the lone survivors of the Norwegian camp. They had just lived what the American crew was about to. The lack of sleep, fighting, paranoia... If you put Childs and Mac in the same situation they too would be unlikely to snipe a dog from a moving helicopter. This can't be stated enough.
Originally Jerry Goldsmith was going to compose and conduct the Score for the movie, but turned it down as he was too busy working on POLTERGEIST, The Secret Of NIHM and RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD. Ennio Morricone was hired, but had a falling out with John Carpenter and most of his score went unused and was replaced by synthesizer music by Carpenter and Alan Howarth.
One of my all time favorite theories is about the scene it shows a pov going through the main building. Showing the door outside open where Childs was suppose to be standing watch. If you notice earlier Childs is wearing a jacket identical to one hanging by the door. But during the POV the jacket is now missing. Child’s shows up later wearing the same jacket. Giving the implication Blair took him over and he needed a new jacket since his other one was ripped through. Not confirmed but a awesome theory.
22:50 based on "Fantastic Plastic" model of the ship, it is anywhere from 335.42 feet across (the length of 1.11 American football fields) to 350 feet across (1.17 American football fields). That makes it 102 to 107 meters wide and very comparable to the Constitution Class Enterprise's saucer section from Star Trek: TOS (which is 127 meters across).
Happy Halloween! I subscribe to the Cross-Contamination theory... "a small particle is enough to take over an entire organism"... I think it's in the bottles of alcohol... explains why Mac-Thing chuckles at the end when Childs takes a swig... also, explains why Fuchs got flamethrowered instead of absorbed... he figures it out, gives away the game to Mac-Thing, and is taken off the board.
1982 was such and amazing year for cinema. This film, Poltergeist, Star Trek II, Tron E.T., and Blade Runner came out. E.T. crushed them all at the box office, and many of them, like The Thing and Blade Runner, didn't do well but rapidly gained cult followings before becoming recognized as some of the most influential films of the later 20th century. I turned 12 that summer, back when seeing R-rated films at a young age was more common and I loved many of these films.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I watched it when it originally hit the theaters in 82. One of my favorite things to do is watch first time reactions to this movie. You guys are awesome.
In case you wonder why some of the cast (such as Windows) give off sinister or scared looks, it's because they were instructed to act like they weren't sure if they were infected or not, to add to the unknown factor of how the Thing works on it's victims.
2011’s The thing ties in so well with the original I was actually shocked once I got closer to the ending and realized it was shot as a prequel to the original movie
Honestly if you see a helicopter trying to shoot a dog, there may be a reason for it! There would be no way someone would go through the trouble of that!😅
You guys need to watch “The Terror” Season 1 ONLY. (originally on AMC in 2018). It was a weekly episode for 9 or 10 weeks. Ridley Scott production. So good !!!!
suggestions: "Near Dark" 1987 (vampires; Bill Paxton) "Frailty" 2001 American psychological horror film directed by and starring Bill Paxton, and co-starring Matthew McConaughey and Powers Boothe. "Deliver Us from Evil" 2014 is the first biblical horror to remind me of "The Exorcist"...since "The Exorcist".
Thank you for this reaction. This really means a lot to me. I was fortunate enough to see this movie when it was released in the theater in 1982. My twin brother and I were only 15 years old at the time, so we had our mom take us to the movie since it was rated R. I was not surprised at the story because I had the Starlog comic magazine that presented this story in the same way. It was all about the blood. Terrifying. I love the ending because it keeps you wondering even after the movie is over. It's not enough to be suspicious of the the people around you. I learned that John Carpenter gave a detail at the end that reveals that Childs is the thing. You can see Kurt Russell's breath in the cold, but you don't see Keith David's breath. The movie is a masterpiece and will always be one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Here's my list: 1 The Matrix 2 Army of Darkness 3 The Thing 4 The Sixth Sense 5 Armageddon Sometimes the order changes a little, but overall these are my top 5 movies
Love your reaction to blood test jump scare scene🤣 Personally, I watched The Thing 2011 in theater before I knew that there is 1982 version. It's quite enjoyable and I would love to see your reaction to it. HOWEVER, it doesn't surpass this one for sure, and I heard that they were forced to use CGI instead of practical effect and it doesn't look too good, but in term of story and monsters design, I would say they did it quite well.
34:00 There's a reason Windows starts backing up when they are trying to figure out who sabotaged the blood. It's because he was the last person to have the keys. Bennings asked Windows to get the keys from Gary. When he got back and saw Bennings being assimilated, Windows dropped the keys and ran. So ANYONE could have picked them up, sabotaged the blood, and put them back on Gary's belt. But since Windows had it last, he would have been suspect number one the moment they knew.

And if its breath wasn't generally visibly condensing, it would be very, very, easy to identify, as soon as it steps outside.... You can't always see someone's condensed breath in the air - _especially_ at night. That depends on the light and angle.

@@tommc3622 I absolutely love that there's actual science behind The Thing. Not many horror movies can say that.
And so it decided to replace the defective heart with a fang-filled maw :)
As usual "don't hurt the puppy" (twenty minutes later) "KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!" 🤣🤣🤣
He should have done the practical effects for the 2011 prequel.Instead they used CGI effects😿

lol
I'm honestly surprised how many people initially go with "oh no, poor puppy" instead of assuming there's a reason for it. Like, guys we all love dogs but don't you think the scene is suspicious af?
Fun Fact: This movie was hailed as a terrible movie when it came out in 82'. It's now considered one of the greatest of the horror genre/theme.
I remember that. In '82, this movie was savaged and ripped to shreds by critics and audiences stayed away. People wanted feel good alien movies like E.T. This film is now (deservedly) considered a masterpiece of horror way ahead of it's time.
Yeah. It flopped at the box office but I actually saw this in the theater and loved it.
The same will happen for post-Endgame MCU.
Didn't Windows drop Garry's keys in the storeroom? Perhaps Palmer got the keys then? Garry picks them up later.
Windows dropped the keys in the storeroom. Perhaps Palmer got the keys then and put them back? Garry picked up the keys later.
The synchronized "Secret tunneeeellll" has me in TEAAAARS (I sang it too lolololl)
I sang it too lol!
FINALLY! One of my most fave movies.
Everyone: omg, don't hurt the dog!
Later: KILL IT WITH FIRE!
watch Thirteen Ghosts!
A little fun fact. when scientists go to the south pole to do research and when the last plane leaves, they watch this movie.
Every year during the first snow of winter, I go outside late at night and sit in my shed freezing my ass off, drinking J&B rare scotch, and watch this. It's become my own little tradition, it's really immersive considering I live in Kansas, out in the middle of nowhere with nobody around for miles.
That's hardcore.
I totally would put this on. I watch this movie every winter at least a few times, as well as The Shining, good winter flicks. If I had a dollar for every time I watched The Thing since 82...lol

@@ajalvarez3111 Another huge favorite for me. What an amazing movie. Yah! Yah Eh!?
This is actually my all-time favorite horror movie. It's so fantastic, so I'm stoked to see you guys checking it out. Happy Halloween!
The video game confirms macready was not the thing
It was Blair.
I've seen the movie several times, and it give me goose bumps every time.
my interpretation of the ending is they were both not the thing but they also both died that night to prevent it from possibly spreading.
@ Relax, it’s just a theory I read online. I thought it was a fun observation. You are right that it could very well be a simple production error.
It amazes me how little people listen to dialogue. He never said the creature was normal, he said it APPEARED to have a normal set of internal organs
@@charlesbecker934 Plus all the people who think there are wolves in Antarctica LOL
The dog was actually part wolf. Which is why he was so silent. Adult wolves don't bark.
His name was Jed
So he was like balto 🥲
He also wasn't looking for attention like a normal dog. It made Jed seem unnatural. Apparently cast and crew were unnerved by his behavior.
Huskies don’t bark much. Howl yes
"Mac wants the what!?" This movie still holds up. Practical effects, Hollywood. Let's get back there!
Fun Fact-They saved $250,000 on the movie by recycling sets. The Destroyed base was used for the destroyed Norwegian base at the start!
Crazy fact, Wilford Brimley (Blair) was only 47-48yrs old when he made this. Looks like he looked the same for 40yrs straight
And only 2 years later,at 50 he was playing the resident of an old folks' home opposite actors in their 70s in Cocoon!
People just used to look older early, I dunno why
The actor who played Childs (Keith David) still works a lot today especially voice work. When I watched an episode of Rick and Morty, I immediately recognized his voice. He plays the President of the United States on the show.
He also does the voice of Husker in "Hazbin Hotel", if you're familiar with that animation.
He is also the VA for the Arbiter in Halo.
Every time i watch someone react to this, and they defend the dog at the start, i just chuckle lol
The titlecard is pure brilliance. It's literally a cut matte, backlit while burning a black plastic trash bag to reveal the name. \o/
A well done recreation from the original film.
Also, Ennio Morricone who scored this did the music and title theme for "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly".
Yeah. The director and actors tried their best. That movie gets way more hate that it deserves.
i hope the dogs got treated with good boy steaks after the scene wrapped up
If you translate the Norwegian, he gives the entire plot away.
which is a bit of a spoiler if you Do speak norwegian lmao
Very bad Norwegian it is - then again, the actor is German. As a Swede I usually have no problems understanding Norwegian, but the only word I hear is "idiot".
not the entire plot, idk why tf people always complain about this, it literally give you the smallest possible information possible “hey that dog isn’t a dog” ok? you find out not even 15 minutes later that something may be up with the dog, it’s really not that big of a deal
I guess Norwegian viewers are f***ed. 😂
Woke up to a thunderstorm and this video! Perfect start to halloween. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!
Haha me too! MN weather is nuts
This is how you do a remake. Amazing film.
It's not a remake per se of the 1951 movie, it's a retelling of the original story by Campbell.
Carpenter's version is a lot closer to the book, tho. But I guess in the 50's they couldn't make effects like these yet.
The guy whose voice you recognized is a very young Keith David . Very prolific actor and voice actor.
“Hi, I am dog. Yes?” 😂😂😂
If I see someone so desperate to grenade a dog in this situation, and I can't understand what they're saying, I'm helping them.
Just what I commented! Not exactly, obviously, but I’m killing it myself. How can love for dogs rob someone of rational thought?
MacReady's back story is he was military -- i think in 'Nam. i think that's why he became the leader.
27,000 hours works out to about 3 years... Just 3 years and every person and possibly every land animal could be a Thing!
Or could be all THE Thing, if you believe it's one big organism.
@daz_n Imagine a giant ocean full of the Thing made from all ocean life
That’s a lot of Thing

The character Childs is played by Keith David, who was also in Carpenter's "They Live" and voices POTUS on "Rick and Morty".
Keith David is iconic, voiced so many great characters but one of my childhood favorites is Goliath from Gargoyles animated series (like in my top 3 favorite animated shows as a kid along with Batman and X-men the animated series).

This is a near-perfect movie. That being said, I think it would be better if they cut the saucer scene from the beginning of the movie (and from the beginning of Predator too). You shouldn't be thinking aliens until they find it crashed later.

Shooting a moving, nimble target from a stationary position is difficult enough!
Well, the shooting isn't difficult. Actually hitting it definitely is!
Add in that you have freezing wind basically blasting you and your hands are freezing.
CLEARLY. Imagine being this arrogant.
You called it already but I can confirm that The Thing was the main inspiration for the videogame Among Us!
the thing 2011 is not a remake, i wont spoil what it is. there is tons of break downs of the movie including the end and its debated to this day.

49:56 Secret Tunneeeeeeeeeel! 👏🏻 Welcome to "singing that song to any movie with a secret tunnel" since watching TLA 🤣
Masterpiece of a film
3:54 Me: That better be a god damned bazooka.
I turned 12 that summer, back when seeing R-rated films at a young age was more common and I loved many of these films.

yall have got to watch and react to THE SUBSTANCE, probably one of the best horror films of the year with an actual message, good shit i tell ya
“I am dog!” Lol 😂
Honestly if you see a helicopter trying to shoot a dog, there may be a reason for it! There would be no way someone would go through the trouble of that!😅
Another intelligent comment. There’s hope yet.
You guys need to watch “The Terror” Season 1 ONLY. (originally on AMC in 2018). It was a weekly episode for 9 or 10 weeks. Ridley Scott production. So good !!!!
suggestions:
"Near Dark" 1987 (vampires; Bill Paxton)
"Frailty" 2001 American psychological horror film directed by and starring Bill Paxton, and co-starring Matthew McConaughey and Powers Boothe.
Here's my list:

Sometimes the order changes a little, but overall these are my top 5 movies
3:47 You're going to wish they killed that dog by the end.
I saw one that reacted to this one saying no don't kill it, then same reactors for the 2011 The Thing and they switched to no kill it kill it

been debunked several times, by Carpenter... didn't see his breath because of the camera angle and lighting
@@BryanH63 you can still see his breath, just not as prevalent, as you stated, due to backlighting. Seeing this theory commented over and over is so irritating, lol. Good on you for calling it out 😂
Just another fan-fantasy that actually makes no sense to the story if you consider it....
Why wouldn't its breath be generally visibly condensing? And if its breath wasn't generally visibly condensing, it would be very, very, easy to identify, as soon as it steps outside....
You can't always see someone's condensed breath in the air - _especially_ at night. That depends on the light and angle.
This movie has been analyzed six ways from Sunday, with every detail trying to determine who got copied and when. But I've never seen anybody ask, about that opening sequence, what good it would do to shoot a dog/thing. The Thing seems the literal definition of "bullets can't stop it".
What do you mean you "don't condone" shooting at that dog??? XD
The game Among Us was inspired by The Thing. 👾

Bridgette: "I don't know why I have really bad anxiety right now..."
It never stops B...it never stops. This movie does anxiety like Jaws does fish.
