“A man can be an artist... in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasey's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece.” I love that speech.
She doesn't know her job. If she was a soldier, it would be right to stand with him at the last. But she is not She is a target, and he is her bodyguard; it's her place to run, and his job is to lay his life down for her. For me the more powerful part is at the end, when he fulfills the task, and dies peacefully in the company of his enemies so that she may live.
Thats what my Vengeance paladin in our DnD campaign said when One Bad guy was pleading for his life saying " Man arn't you a Paladin?, isn't like forgivness etc one of Your God's tenants?" "My God indeed beliefs in Forgivness, but that be Between You and Him, my Duty is to make your meeting Possible"
Great line, but honestly, my fav line: "I'm gonna kill em. Anybody who was involved, anybody who profited from it, anybody who opens their eyes at me." That line, especially the last one, shows the depth of Creasy's love and determination to avenge Lupita.
After Top Gun (1986), the late Tony Scott wanted to adapt the A. J. Quinnell novel of Man on Fire. Instead it was made into a film with Scott Glenn as Creasy, co-starring Joe Pesci and with limited release for only 3 countries in 1987. T. Scott circled back around to the story, over a decade later. If it was going to be remade, it would be timely to the kidnappings occurring in Italy. This would be Denzel and Tony's second film together. Also the first real Denzel flick as an avenging angel. When he gets these guys for what they did, no mercy whatsoever. It makes you appreciate DW even more in The Book of Eli and the Equalizer trilogy. All the Tony Scott signatures. Highly visual with a total intensity. Close-ups, background, with or without movement. The lighting does make it look like an much older film. Denzel & Dakota are wonderful in their portrayals and the onscreen relationship is touching as it should be. The supporting cast is good too. Other players in their roles don't chew up as much as the primary one, but that's ok. Creasy survived in the 1987 version. Having him perish as an selfless act for the 2004 version was just as gratifying.
This is one of my favorite Denzel Washington movies. It's great that after all this time he was able to reunite with Dakota Fanning in a different project. They're both so incredibly talented. I'm surprised Dakota Fanning hasn't won an Oscar.
When this movie came out, it really set the bar for movies as a whole and definitely cemented Denzel as one of the best actors in the business in my eyes
This is THE Denzel film. His most iconic role imo. This made him an action star. A really amazing acting phenom, action star. It bred this new class of action movie with acting heavy hitters.
You might want to check out "Unstoppable", with Denzel Washington, and also directed by Tony Scott. The story is about a runaway train. I have seen Man on Fire many times and have cried at the end. Peace, Bill.
The fact that Denzel Washington can play an angel a cop a CIA agent and an assassin with the same intensity and you do not confuse him with any other characters that he's played is a testament to not only his range but his ability as an actor to draw you into the movie without falling into the trap that some actors do oh hey that's so and so regardless of what they play that's so and so when Denzel plays a character he is the character he is not Denzel Washington he is whatever he wants to be at that moment the dude is truly a remarkable chameleon
"Peeta Ramoz is just a number for you, another one taken, She showed him that it was Ok to life again. And they're gonna regret the day they touched her. A man can be an artist... in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasy's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece."
I'm so glad you watched this. When I was a kid I watched this movie witg my dad and it left such an impression on me for some reason. I think about it all the time, and for years I carried my own teddy bear named Creasey (I still have it on a shelf). It feels like a sort of small movie to have had such an impact but it did.
So pleased you listened to mine and many other people's suggestions about watching this! It's number 6 in my top 10 of all time. Love the content and channel thanks guys.
Quentin Tarantino explained on a podcast how he and Tony Scott's approaches to filmmaking are completely opposite. He also said he wasn't insulting Scott's approach at all, it was simply different. Tarantino said he sets up one camera, and sets up the scene exactly how he wants it. Apparently, Scott would set up a whole bunch of cameras, and then spend hours editing the footage together, which is why you see the frenetic editing and quick pacing in his movies. Cool example of how two people can approach a job from totally different angles, and still end up with awesome results. This movie directed by Tarantino probably would not have been good, and Pulp Fiction by Tony Scott, probably not good either. Very interesting.
The critics were so incredibly wrong about this movie where it got mostly negative reviews due to the violence. It would be received much better today.
One of my favorite Denzel movies. I can't believe this came out 20 years ago. I still remember seeing this in the theater as a kid (inappropriate, I know). I always saw Denzel as a dramatic actor (Bone Collector, Fallen, Preacher's Wife, Glory, etc). This was the movie where I realised that he's a f*cking bad ass.
There's an alternate ending that is VERY saisfying. I recommend watching it. Whenever i think of Christopher Walken, this is the movie i think of. He's so good in it. My favorite line is when he explains to the cop why Creasy is doing this. Pita gave him permission to love.
I've always loved this movie. For me, the way they take their time to build the relationship between Creasy & Pita is what really sets it apart and makes the action part hit so much harder.
Tony Scott described this film as a love story (in the DVD commentary) and it truly is. Love doesn't always have to be romantic. Their love was pure and its amazing to see their connection grow deeper. Peeta was enamored with him and her love brought Creasy back to life.
Una palabra/One word - English translation One word doesn't say anything and at the same time it hides everything. like the wind that hides the water, like the flowers that hide the mud. Fantastic movie. The combination of Tony Scott and Denzel was truly a great one. And I'm so glad you didn't quite catch on to the "twist" until it happened. I know you suspected it for a while, but the script is quite good at making you think it's only about the revenge plot. I was sad to hear of Tony Scott's passing, and the way he went out. Well worth watching Deja Vu (2006) after this one. It's concept is brilliant.
Almost forgot about Crimson Tide. imo, one of the best submarine movies ever made. Denzel and Gene Hackman at their best. Tony Scott directed, score by Hans Zimmer. The suspense was very well done. It never really gets too slow or boring, as it constantly moves along.
Denzel is one of a handful of actors who you recognize as soon as you see them, or hear their voice. And yet their portayals are so dedicated that it doesnt pull you out of the story
GREAT job. I do believe you skipped over what might be the most important visual ( scene ) in the movie. When Creasy attempts suicide then calls Rayburn, after their conversation ( a bullet always tells the truth) ends and Creasy is broken and sitting in the rain he looks up and sees Pita looking down on him a broken man hired to protect a child and who just attempted suicide because of his haunting past deeds. I believe this scene changes his entire outlook. He realizes that he's the body guard but he's now protecting his guardian angel. That is how I saw this scene. Thank you for reviewing this GREAT GREAT movie
Don't know if you guys have seen Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but Dakota Fanning played Squeaky (the reason George was so tired). It was disappointing we didn't see more of her once she got to a certain age. Somewhere around the time this came out, I remember seeing her in a horror/suspense thriller called Hide and Seek starring Robert Deniro, and she absolutely stole it. One of the greatest child actors ever.
There's an alternative ending for this movie where you see an interaction between Denzel and "The Voice", which also brings back the ass bomb lol. It was called the cowboy ending but I'm glad they went with this more sombre ending.
One of the better Denzel movies imo but my absolute personal favorite is "John Q" and I never see anyone react to it so just a sly suggestion. On another note: I love the 2 pieces of music at the end of this movie
This is a remake of the 1987 *Un uomo sotto tiro* (Man on Fire) with Scott Glenn in Cresse and Joe Pesci as Rayburn. A.J. Quinnell 1980's novella. The film was also produced Arnon Millchan Regency Pictures & Scott Free Entertainment.
Massively underrated film and hands down one of my favourites. DVD extra they had an alternate ending continuing from the end of what you saw, where creasy is just about conscious talking to the voice and then he asks him if he ever sees the hand of god in what he does… followed by a smirk and the beeping of a pager!
This is an all time great movie. In same vein as The Professional. Saw it in the theatre and then bought it when it came out on DVD. In my top 50 all time movies.
If you guys love to see this type of Denzel character in the movie, you guys should react to “John Q.” (2002). It’s based on a true actual story that being broadcasted on mainstream media/news back in the day. That film tells you that who Denzel is. And how good an actor he is. It’s just the beginning of the rise of his career from then onwards😊
There's 2 lines you cut from the reaction that are among my favourites, When the cop with the bomb in him has seconds left Creasey intentionally draws out, I wish....... You had......... More time. The other is when the good cop is talking with Christopher Walken, it's something along the lines of, "Every man is an artist at what he does. Creasey's art is Death, and he's about to paint his masterpiece."
Love this movie. It was a big surprise when I found out a few weeks ago it's actually a remake of a 1987 movie set in Italy with Scott Glen as Creasy and a really young Joe Pesci playing the Christopher Walken character.
Re-watching some of these scenes, one thing I really respect about the movie is how many times Creasy's character gets shot. Like he gets shot a lot! It's not like in a lot of movies where no bullets hit them because they're so good. He's so good, he gets shot but keeps going.
This is how I would've made The Punisher movie. Granted the ending is not Punisher standards. But the whole how the movie was shot....The Punisher fits perfectly.
Definitely fits the definition of a 'banger'. I've(G here, not sure if T knows this song)always jammed out to this song for years now. Their most notable song for sure. As far as other songs of theirs 'Lack of Communication', 'You're in love', 'lay it down', 'back for more', 'way cool Jr' and my second favorite by them 'shame, shame, shame'. Check any of em out, great 80's rock hair band!
This was, if I remember correctly, the final book in a series about Creasy. The series follows Creasy on his missions, then in the last one he is just a broken human trying to deal with the trauma. But, in the book, Pita did die. I started the book because I loved the movie, but then they actually find Pita’s body, and she had been SA. Creasy lives in the end, gets married, has kids, and finds peace.
More cowbell !!! Sorry. Couldn't resist. I love Christopher Walken. Did you catch him in that scene in TRUE ROMANCE [ (1993) Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Gary Oldman, et al ] opposite Dennis Hopper? Such a great actor. If you haven't seen that film, plesae react to it -
Tony Scott is also a professionally trained artist. He would literally storyboard the entirety of his movies. Almost shot for shit. See “Days of Thunder” mini doc.
I remember this movie and found it interesting, action packed and entertaining. You are correct, that is Clair de Lune. It was composed by Claude Debussy in 1905. I liked the original, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), but not the remake.

“A man can be an artist... in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasey's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece.” I love that speech.
One of the best lines in a film full of great lines but it never makes it into anyone's reactions.
That still gives me chills.
Shocked it didn't make it into the reaction. It's my favorite part of the movie
I was waiting for that speech.
@@AFC9798I agree, can’t believe they left this out.
This movie is a criminally underrated masterpiece.
Absolutely
Definitely one of Denzel's best performances!
100 Agree. Criminally underrated
Nah, not underrated at all. Everyone knows and loves this movie!
From a time when they used to make so many good original movies
Both Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning are great throughout. Solid chemistry between the two.
And they reunite in equalizer 3.
Yup.
Powerful movie. When Pita chooses to run back to the fallen Creasy, it gets me everytime.
That guts me EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! Never gets any easier.
Same! This was the only time watching it I didn’t cry.

“Forgiveness is between them and God. It’s my job to arrange the meeting."-Denzel
Read the comment right as Denzel was delivering that line ❤
Best line ever!
Thats what my Vengeance paladin in our DnD campaign said when One Bad guy was pleading for his life saying " Man arn't you a Paladin?, isn't like forgivness etc one of Your God's tenants?"
"My God indeed beliefs in Forgivness, but that be Between You and Him, my Duty is to make your meeting Possible"
It just occurred to me that Denzel, Washington could’ve convincingly played Batman and Bruce Wayne back in the day…
My fav Denzel movie!!! My fav line: "Creasy's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece."
So sad they didn't include that iconic line in the reaction here. Was truly the best line of the whole film.
epic line!!!
Criminal they didn't include their reaction to that line
Great line, but honestly, my fav line: "I'm gonna kill em. Anybody who was involved, anybody who profited from it, anybody who opens their eyes at me." That line, especially the last one, shows the depth of Creasy's love and determination to avenge Lupita.
@BrokeSpike most definitely my favorite. Then when she says "you kill em all" she was just down for whatever.

I’m pretty sure Malcolm X and Training Day are more intertwined in pop culture than this film. I agree on the action part though
John Q was a pretty awesome movie also.
Malcolm X man 🔥🔥
nah, Denzel was a start before this movie.
So true about the new genre of action!! I do love him in this role too.
When vigilante justice is exactly what's best for the situation and it's so satisfying
Would recommend checking out 'Deja Vu' (2006) by the same director, also with Denzel. Ta. 🧡
I almost wrote this same recommendation in my post😊👍🏼
@@twittertwiceIt's a great movie, very entertaining. 😊
Love this one too! So underrated.
I was stressed out that entire movie
No matter how many times I watch this movie, I still enjoy the hell out of it.
You might want to check out "Unstoppable", with Denzel Washington, and also directed by Tony Scott. The story is about a runaway train. I have seen Man on Fire many times and have cried at the end. Peace, Bill.
I second the request for UNSTOPPABLE. I watched it one day, looking for just a mindless action popcorn movie, and it surprised me by how good it was.
Thank you. I was just about to ask if Tony and Denzel only did reinterpretation features.
They need to check out unstoppable, especially considering it’s Tony Scott’s last film
Radha Mitchell rocked this role as the mother. Vigilant, concerned, loving. And she absolutely sold the terror and outrage.
Wow! What a film….i know that Denzel won an Oscar for Training Day, but his performance in this movie is my absolute favorite!!

I love this film so much. I'm a sucker for a good score and Lisa Gerrard (of Gladiator fame) kills it with the ending scenes.
Also Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance fame.
I'm so glad you watched this. When I was a kid I watched this movie witg my dad and it left such an impression on me for some reason. Denzel’s best. Couldn’t stop crying.
So pleased you listened to mine and many other people's suggestions about watching this! It's number 6 in my top 10 of all time. Love the content and channel thanks guys.
Keep it going with the Tony Scott & Denial Washington collaboration with the 2006 Film Deja Vu..

And yet at the end of the day we can say we got an awesome movie directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino: *True Romance*
Crimson Tide is another really good Tony Scott and Denzel pairing!
Also "Deja Vu"
One of my all time favorite Denzel Washington movies.
The critics were so incredibly wrong about this movie where it got mostly negative reviews due to the violence. It would be received much better today.
So excited to see John and Andrew react to this movie! Denzel Washington is so great in this movie! 👍 🔥
I love that Denzel and Dakota got to reunite on the big screen in the equalizer 3.
One of my favorite Denzel movies. I can't believe this came out 20 years ago. I still remember seeing this in the theater as a kid (inappropriate, I know). There's an alternate ending that is VERY saisfying. I recommend watching it.
Whenever i think of Christopher Walken, this is the movie i think of. He's so good in it.
My favorite line is when he explains to the cop why Creasy is doing this. Pita gave him permission to love.
The reporter and the mom... just badass women. The mom... she wasnt perfect. But she loved her little girl.
Still tear up when that song hits at the end like gladiator, even in this reaction. 😅😢 so powerful and touching, good movie and good reaction guys!
Hands down favorite Denzel Movie 👊🏽🤟🏽🔥
I love how Max Payne 3 was inspired from Man on Fire
Tony Scott, Denzel Washington, and Harry Gregson Williams, were such great pair of film pairings. I’m glad Harry still scores Denzel’s films
The way they reunited in The equalizer 3 had my heart ❤️. Now that I think about it he went full mode after the bomb that hurt little Dakota fanning.

Dakota is the best -- none can compare.
The "Kill'em All"/arming up scene guitar riff sounds like an early/adjacent version of Killing Strangers.
Denzel Washington is my favorite actor, I recently re-watched Hard Times and Malcom X and it shows how versatile this man has always been.
Idk why there aren't more reactions to this movie out there but it's one of my all time favorites. Another underrated but great Denzel movie is John Q

This is how I would've made The Punisher movie. Granted the ending is not Punisher standards. But the whole how the movie was shot....The Punisher fits perfectly.
IK love the depth of field and colour filters they use. It makes me feel warm, similar to how I feel playing San Andreas GTA
My absolute fav Denzel Washington movie.
I bet when Andrew takes his glasses off, his nose and moustache come attached.
“Creasy’s art is death… he’s about to paint his masterpiece.” Walken’s delivery is so good to such a badass line.
The policia hospital scene owns the best lines ever. Celebrated for being dead is powerful.
C5T K89. 4747. So many memorable numbers. This is epic
Did you catch him in that scene in
TRUE ROMANCE [ (1993)
Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette,
Gary Oldman, et al ]
opposite Dennis Hopper?
Such a great actor.
If you haven't seen that film,
plesae react to it -
Tony Scott is also a professionally trained artist.
One of my fav movies of any genre
YES!!!!!! JUST WHAT I ASKED FOR!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
