From the Wiki for this film: "In the original release in the United Kingdom, an extended ending is presented, which was cut for the US release over concerns that it was too depressing. After hallucinating the image of Juno, Sarah awakens in the cave, her entire escape having been revealed to be part of the same hallucination. She sits up to see Jessica sitting across from her, holding a birthday cake. As Sarah smiles the shot widens to reveal that the cake's birthday-candlelight is actually the light of her torch. The camera slowly backs out, revealing the darkness surrounding Sarah as the crawlers are heard closing in."
Fun Facts: In the special features for the movie they described the creatures as the cavemen who never left the caves. Also the director purposely hid what the creatures looked like from the cast, so in the scene when they all encounter one for the first time as it jump scares them, that is their genuine fearful reaction IN REAL LIFE. One of the many reasons this movie is tied with Alien for my all time favorite horror movie. Also I LOVE that Roxy is now a full blown Reel Reject. She’s absolutely perfect, both for the channel, and in real life. Love you Roxstar!❤❤
Also my favorite horror movie. I watch it once a year, on Halloween night (always the extended version). The thing about it is, it would still be a great movie even without the flesh eating creatures.
Had me and my brother yelling and screaming so loud, my sister in law was afraid to sleep and she didn’t even watch it with us 😂😂😂 Also my brother is a hard-ass macho guy. He was roller-coaster screaming at the jump scares 😂 one of my favorite memories 😅
The whole subtext of friendship and betrayal is key. Juno was having an affair with Sarah's husband. Grief and loyalty play a role especially when Juno left the other girl to die. Sarah could not forgive twice.
I think it's more about honesty. Juno could be honest about her affair with Sarah's husband, and she choose not do it. And again, Juno could be honest about Beth's death when Sarah asks her, but once more, Juno choose not be honest with her. I didn't know there were 2 different endings.... I was so confused with this version in this reaction .... Cause when I watched it, I remember distinctly that sarah is still stuck inside and it's just a vision....
I think it’s safe to say that Sarah’s husband and Juno were sleeping together. At the beginning when he helps Juno out of the water the way they look at each other and how he lingers pushing her hair back from her face is some pretty intense body language that signals they are more than just friends. Plus the gift he gave Juno with his motto engraved on it, which Sarah thought was something special between her and her husband, was a big reveal. You don’t give secret gifts to your spouse’s friends. That’s my interpretation anyway. 🤷♀️😊 Thanks for another entertaining reaction, Greg and Roxy!

Juno definitely was not at fault for killing the one friend. It’s the middle of a survival situation & the friend sneaks up on Juno without saying a word? She asked to die. However, Juno covering it up by saying a crawler killed the friend was a problem.

And Sarah *doesn't* notice it, nor do seemingly any of the reactions I've seen to this so far..
I’d like to mention my favourite part about the shots in this movie is that the “twist” about the real dangers of the cave were actually in view of almost every wide establishing shot before they even show up, if you look in some of the corners or partially illuminated spots you can see either silhouettes or just the creatures outright blending in with the environment it’s so cool
What gets me about Juno is that while she is fighting for her life against demons or aliens. She still has the mental energy to CHOOSE to lie about what she does to Beth. 😂. Plus having the Husbands necklace words on her while Intentionally inviting the Widow Sarah?!?! Wow! lol. It seems no matter what that friendship was gonna die.
I think what's scariest about this is that they AREN'T demons or aliens, there's nothing to indicate these are anything but animals. I think the creators said that they're descendants of ancient cavemen who stayed in the caves and evolved into these things. So nothing supernatural going on, just natural creatures with a helluva home field advantage
Crawling through a tight space in a cave scares me in a way that no monster ever could. I love scary movies, to get the short excitement of a jump scare…but these types of movies keep me “on the edge” for minutes at a time.
No joke, I am a friend of the director and was actually supposed to be going to his house tonight for a party but the trains are screwed in the UK; opened up TH-cam and here are you guys reacting to his film 😁 going to watch this instead and will send it onto him when I’m done- awesome stuff!
It was neat seeing Tissaia (The Witcher) in this ol’ flick!! Discovered I have quite some claustrophobia and you’ll never find me exploring underground.😏
I saw this movie for the first time during Covid, and man I’ll say this it is without a doubt one of the best horror movies of the modern century. And I’d say that is one of the best creature features ever made.
It does have a sequel "The Descent 2" it takes place right after this one and wraps up the storyline for this movie and actually just as good if not better! 🙎♂️
@@flyany6682 oh wait crap you're right my bad. Sorry I am just stuck in an infinite loop of thinking that the first one is the only one that exists for some reason. I hadn't heard good things about the second so I just filtered it out.
I saw this in the theater…I’ll never forget it! I was terrified because it’s actually scary and thrilling. But also because I’m scared of being stuck in closed in spaces. I love how the movie progresses and changes. I love the camera shots and cinematography. I love the writing because you’re uncovering things about the characters as you’re discovering things about the caves. I also feel like how things keep twisting and turning as well.
The score that you praised is done by David Julyan. David Julyan also did the score for the horror movie "Eden Lake (2008)". I would highly recommend that movie to you! It really is an emotional gut punch, the ending will make you ... I'm not sure but it is really the opposite of a happy ending! Hopefully other people agree that you should check Eden Lake (2008) out!
In the uncut original version Sarah does not make it out. After her vision of Juno in her car, Sarah wake up back in the cave with crawlers sound closing in on her. Then she has vision of her daughter and a birthday cake. Then camera pull back in the cave to imply Sarah will die.
I’ve seen both endings and this movie either way is in my top ten of all horror movies ever along with Rec which you just saw so I love it. The claustrophobia, the fear of falling, the family trauma and that’s all before we actually see the other fear down below.
This film is all my fears crammed into less than 2hrs. Seen it many times. To this day, I have to watch something Disney after it so I can actually sleep. It's the moment at the end when the camera pans out and you realise that the candles weren't candles and the shadows start to move. Absolutely chilling.
I love the praise on filmmaking that you’re crediting this movie with! This was a huge part of my childhood! Watching this reaction made me appreciate it just that much more!
In the alternate ending version, she gets to the car and then parks up same. But instead of seeing her friend, when the truck goes past she wakes up still inside the cave because she passed out and dreamt escaping.
She never escaped from the cave. The last piece never happened. Didn't you notice that? This is not a monster movie. They were human down there. This is what evolution has been doing for hundreds of years. Humans also adapt to their environment. Babies were born and then incestuous.
Unfortunately you did not watch the original ending, and the one the director intended, which is where Sarah, after seeing Juno in the car, wakes back up in the cave, revealing that she was just imaging her escape, surrounded by multiple of cave creatures, only to imagine her daughter being with her one last time. Much better ending than this one.
Yeah, they watched the American ending. The original British ending is what you describe, that's the one I saw in the cinema. The American distributor altered it so the sequel they were financing could start with Sarah having escaped.
The cave scenes were all filmed in sets at Pinewood Studios. They built them in separate sections that could be moved around and reoriented to create different chambers and passages.
If it's these things you're afraid of then the locust horde would like a chat with you cuz I would be more afraid of that than these dumbasss locusts are the worse subterranean bastards in town.
Im sure there's a lot of comments about this already and you might say it later in the video idk, but there are mulitple versions of this film, with different scenes and endings..
There's technically only 1 other version, the original UK version aka extended version aka unrated. It doesn't have any different scenes, just an extended ending. The US theatrical version cuts the last minute off.
My theory is that Sarah never recovered from the crash. She's either in a coma/catatonic and everything after the crash is in her head or she died and this is her hell. Also don't bother with part 2 lol. I think I also saw a theory that Sarah went mad and actually killed them all.
The ending in the UK was different she tripped about getting out (she didn’t) and then the last shoot was her still in the cave, the fire going out and surrounded by these freaks
Being a lifelong native of Kentucky I always loved Mammoth Cave. It's the world's longest cave system. 400 miles have been explored and believed 600 miles unexplored. Haven't been back since watching this film.
Neil Marshall is one of the most inventive directors and script writers. Please watch he's other classic 'dog soldiers ' when you get a chance. Great reactions guys.
This is a great movie , so so many jump scares that are totally earned , from the opening jaw dropping death of Sarah's Husband and Daughter to the scene when they pan around in the bone pit and the Crawler is behind one of the Girls was so great , I saw this on a date who wanted to see a scary movie so very good choice there . I think using actresses who are not major big names really works in the films favour . The Cinematography and sound design are fantastic and so effective , having a movie about descending into caves is scary enough with a amazing claustrophobic feel and atmosphere is great throw in the Crawlers and it makes it so much scarier . This is the second movie from Neil Marshall whose first movie Dog Soldiers from 2002 is truly truly great too in fact I prefer Dog Soldiers over this as Descent is a pure Horror movie and Dog Soldiers is a Horror Comedy with really likable characters I would highly recommend Dog Soldiers . Neil Marshall also directed some of the more action packed Game of Thrones episodes like Blackwater , I have not seen Descent part 2 Neil Marshall is apparently Executive Director but with a different Director . There is a cut of Descent which has a different ending I think it may be the US release but I have only ever seen the UK release . Glad to see you mentioned The Ritual another great Horror with really likeable characters and has elements of other Horrors like Blair Witch and Evil Dead but not enough of other movies to feel they are ripping them off .
Why did i watch this reaction right before bedtime, claustrophobia really gets set off in this one. again why am i like this. Great reaction Roxy, and Greg!
When i first saw this years after it came out i wasnt sure if it was gonna be any good...i dont remember if it even hit the theater...dont think it did. I loved it. Loved the fact of how uncomfortable and claustrophobic it made me feel. Loved the fact all the girls were from different countries too.
Neil Marshall is great at directing/creating a very tense atmosphere, the claustrophobic environment also the perfect setting. Great editing and a great choice to not hold back and just dive head first right from the opening sequence. This is an amazing horror movie, filled with suspense and scares galore. He also directed another of my favourites called Centurion with Fassbender about the roman legion. The lead actress Shauna Macdonald was in another horror called Howl, a low budget werewolf film that was far better than expected. Great reaction!!

This is one of my favorite horror films of all time. And agree the score is absolutely great. Love the reaction and I subscribed. Best movie title in my opinion“HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN” lol.
By the way, what happens in the scene after she mercy kills Beth is that a child crawler jumps her and she kills it, then the mother crawler comes up and find her dead baby and goes after her, resulting in the bloody pool fight
"As Above So Below". Same kind of vibe as this movie. But more found footage and without the creatures. But one of my favorite horror movies ever. Would definitely put it up there with this movie as well.
When I first watched this movie, I was conflicted with Juno cus despite having an affair with her friends husband & getting everyone trapped in the cave, we can all agree she had the potential to be a final girl along with Sarah.
@@TheAOTSdudebut they all would have died from the crawlers immediately without her. (also they would never be near the crawlers if not for her, but Juno tried to clean up the mess she made, and she looked prettt badass while doing it. still Team Sarah though)
Great movie and great reactions guys .perfect timing for this .as I just went threw my first cave system last weekend here in Scotland I went down a 900foot 40 million year old cave system with lots of squeezes it was by far the most nerve racking and exiting thing I’ve done .we tried to film the experience with gopro,s which we found was extremely challenging so props to the director and film crew to capture this movie so well .

“Hell of a comedy Greg, it gets funnier.” That had me laughing 😂😂😂
Please yes Greg. Tara and Roxy watching horror movies together sounds like an absolute nightmare… in a good way.
Whoa, cool! Keep us posted and let us know his thoughts on the reaction
Will do!
@@michellebrooke2244well, what'd he say??
It was neat seeing Tissaia (The Witcher) in this ol’ flick!!
Discovered I have quite some claustrophobia and you’ll never find me exploring underground.😏
I LOVE THIS MOVIE. One I never get tired of watching
I remember watching this with my nana. We used to watch horror and serial killer movies together when I was a kid
Hands down my favorite horror movie. The score is amazing and the camera work in this is tops. Also the psychological element.
This is by far one of my favorite horror movies and one of the only ones that actually scare me sometimes. So good
The score that you praised is done by David Julyan.
Ahhh love this movie. I try watch it once a year just as a reminder of what a good entertaining horror movie is
In the uncut original version Sarah does not make it out. After her vision of Juno in her car, Sarah wake up back in the cave with crawlers sound closing in on her. Then she has vision of her daughter and a birthday cake. Then camera pull back in the cave to imply Sarah will die.
Awesome movie.. great reaction! Roxy... damn! I'm now watching The Ritual, Thanks
One of my favorite horror movies. I know Juno was wrong but that was my girl 🤣🤣🤣
10:25 Its crazy how roxy brought up 47 meters down and below the video i get a suggestion for 47 meters down ☠️
This is the video where I was looking forward to the review and conversations at the end
Oh hell yesss. This movie scacred me so much as a kid. And 28 weeks later
This movie, is literally one of my worst fears! It truly messed me up back as a teenager lol
The actress that plays Sam is in The Witcher. She's Yennifer's teacher/mentor.
Damn haven’t finished it but that sucks luckily when blind wave watched it they had Rick who saw it to pick the right one
Oh no! They watched that version? Dammit! That version should never have been made
The American way... Take a great thing and ruin it
Descent 2 is absolutely worth watching, not everyone liked it yes, but it does a fantastic of both continuing the story and expanding on it
Descent 2 certainly has some flaws, but I actually really love it.
Really liked the second. I wish they did a reaction video for the sequel.
Loved this reaction and loved having Roxy back!! I do like the other ending as its juxtapose with "The Descent" but into madness as well.
Thanks!!!
My boyfriend loves horror movies and he swears by this
They are realistic. They are humans that have just lived in the caves forever and their bodies adapted. I love this movie
Watched this with no expectations after grabbing some DVDs years back ahead of a snow storm - loved it
Out of the two endings, I'm curious to know which you two prefer! There's the US then international version. 😊
I love watching people watching this movie for the first time! 😂
Woo hoo! It’s been too long since I’ve seen a Roxy reaction on this channel!
The cave scenes were all filmed in sets at Pinewood Studios. They built them in separate sections that could be moved around and reoriented to create different chambers and passages.
This could really happen, because we don't know what's living underground.
If it's these things you're afraid of then the locust horde would like a chat with you cuz I would be more afraid of that than these dumbasss locusts are the worse subterranean bastards in town.
It's funny that she brings up The Thing
This movie has that same little horror beat to the soundtrack
Just finished watching the reaction.
This movie has 2 endings and the other one is so much better 😭
exactly
I love that I randomly watched this movie having no idea what it was about. Scared the everloving shit outta me.
Being a lifelong native of Kentucky I always loved Mammoth Cave. It's the world's longest cave system. 400 miles have been explored and believed 600 miles unexplored. Haven't been back since watching this film.
With that ending, you need to watch The Descent 2. The story continues......
This was great. You guys are gonna Looooovvvvve the sequel!!!!!
I forgot that they changed the ending and was waiting for their reaction to the twist, then I remembered what they did.
This movie is genuinely heart pounding. Another horror movie(s) you should check out is The Collector and The Collection
"She's our protagonist, she's not going to die"...depends which ending you are watching...
One of the best intros I've seen to any reaction videos in a very long time 😂
Phenomenal show as always! You both are dope! This movie is a diamond in the ruff. Such a underrated classic. I snuck in the the movie and was blown away. Still one of the best movies I've ever seen. 😎👍🏾👍🏾
This movie is SO GOOD! I knew you'd love it, another great reaction.
Just watched this for the first time the other day. Incredible atmospheric horror.
Great movie and still one of my favorites. I didn't realize at first that Juno's line about the climbing equipment (cam) they found being over 100 years old was the origins of these cave creatures.
Great reaction, as usual (regardless as to which damn ending it is).
Thanks :)
The fact you two went seamlessly into Stewie from family guy's mama mom mommy bit. yes! love you for that lol
Dammit Greg! You revealed that this movie was a horror movie and not a comedy lol I would have loved to hear Roxy asking you where are the jokes at in this reaction. Also, Roxy mixed references from “The Shining” & “Signs” is funny
When I was younger I set that "Mom mom mummy mummy mama mama" from family guy you guys quoted as my mom's personal ringtone for me. Every time I would call her that would start playing and she always loved it 😂
One THE best Horror Movies of the 21st century. Period. Great horror, great clastrophobic suspense and characters.
I love this movie, it's one of my favorite horror films because of the gutwrenching terror and unpredictable deaths. It made me scared of caves lol The alternate ending is top tier and better than the original ending but not a lot of people know about it
The "alternate ending" IS the original one.
@@DannX68 That is true
MyAnna Buring who played Sam in this movie also played Tissaia de Vries in The Witcher
This is one of my favorite horror films of all time. And agree the score is absolutely great. Love the reaction and I subscribed. Best movie title in my opinion“HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN” lol.
Such A Great Movie Definitiely Deserves More Attention,
when you have claustrophobia and imagine crawling through the small gaps its even more scary than the monsters
Agree 100%
she was trash once she slept with the husband. there is no going bavk from that
@@TheAOTSdudebut they all would have died from the crawlers immediately without her.
I remember she woke up in the cave. I saw it in theaters in america
I also remember seeing it in Hawaii and saw the UK ending. This is the 'American' ending. You aren't wrong, but you are lucky!! 👍👍
I liked the movie a lot. There is a second movie and I liked it too. The only real bad part was it ended leading up to a third movie that they never made.
I have been following Roxy since Popcorn Talk channel. Glad to see her still thriving
