37:02 Not gunpowder, just flour. Flour is very explosive. Flour dust in the air is the equivalent of leaving the gas on and it could easily make that kind of explosion. Since mills crush grain into flour they are covered top to bottom in the dust. Even today flour mills have strict regulations about fire being anywhere close to them. If you look up flour mill explosions you will see barely anything left of the building.
Fun fact: a flour explosion started the Great Fire of London. Other fun fact: the fire only directly killed six people. Less fun fact: those six people all died horribly.
Mythbusters did an episode on this, and it's not specific to the flour itself. IIRC they mention that most things (I assume they meant carbon based, but I could be wrong) in powder form can become explosive -- it's a question of its concentration (per cubic unit of air). The Badd Medicine crew _have_ encountered this concept before, in RDR2. I believe there's a main question mission where a sugar refinery is blown up? (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
A flour explosion is used in one of "The Equilizer" movies. Also flower mill explosions are the reason for tales and storys about millers who made somekind of a contract with a devil or about miller's and witchcraft fin the old world for example her in Austria.
@@fnizzelwhoop Honestly Mythbusters is an entertainment show and shouldn't be taken that seriously. Time and again I've seen them avoid critical testing and come to the wrong conclusion in the end. Anything in powder form can easily burn, but only some things also release gas and explode. Otherwise we wouldn't need something specific like gun powder. Flour, dairy creamer, and gun powder all have explosive properties. Baking powder and sugar dust do not explode but would burn up.
Ok, guys...IchaBOD not Bob, LOL! I haven't seen this in a while so had forgotten Dumbledore 2.0, Mr. Dursley, Rita Skeeter, plus Sarumon, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, and Alfred Pennyworth were in there. My favourite film ever! The village, tree, windmill etc was ALL built from SCRATCH in the English countryside! Tim wanted to film it in the actual Sleepy Hollow village in New York but got turned down so built his own set. I always admire that when watching this. Tim, Johnny and Danny Elfman will never not make a perfect film! This was also Christopher Walkins first on-screen kiss 😂 just adore this film seen it deffo over 300 times 🩷
Interesting fact, the legend of the headless horse is actually based on a ancient Irish ghost called a Dullahan also known as Colainn Gan Cheann, meaning "without a head" in Irish. When Irish immigrants moved to America they told the story of the Dullahan to people, and like a lot of Irish traditions, stories and legends, the American settlers later adopted it into their own culture and lore, hence the story of the headless horseman was born. The Dullahan is a ghost or dark fairy, that appears when a person is about to die. He is often depicted as a headless horseman rider or Coachman driving a black funeral coach that makes no sounds. Some legends say he has no head while others state he carries his head in his arms and that his face is stuck in a creepy wide smile where his teeth have been sharpened to razor like, which is probably why they did that in the movie. Another part of the Irish legend states the Dullahan wields a bone whip made out of human spines, which he swings around. Sadly they didn't do that in the movie, which would have been cool if they had.
The running gag of Ichabod ducking behind anyone at hand in a dangerous situation is always amusing. Especially given he most frequently does it to Katrina and his kid sidekick, both of whom are substantially shorter than he is.
I love this movie, it was one of my first scary movies. I also heard that Depp bought the horse that played Gunpowder because they were retiring him after this film. It made me really happy to hear that. I love it when actors bond that closely with their animal costars.
Watching this channel I've learned that me and Oak are so opposite in movie tastes, any film he doesn't vibe with I love while some films I don't care for he really likes. It cracks me up, I literally clicked this thinking 'well it's my fave film so Oak isn't gonna like it' I KNOW HIM! 😂
In the original book the headless horseman is just a legend. Ichabod Crane is a teacher that is not a bad person, but likes to take advantage of the goodwill of the villagers, like getting invited to feast often at their tables and approaching the young lady despite her already having a pretender. In the end the pretender, that strong guy that seems possesive in the movie, dress up as the headless horseman using a pumpking to pretend a severed head, do the prank on Icabod, and that way Ichabod is scared out of the village for good. In my opinion this movie is way better than the original story, but I still pay respect to the original book for inspiring some of the tone and visuals of the general story.
We watched the cartoon short film every Halloween as kids in the 80’s and 90’s. This movie has made my Halloween season lineup alongside the cartoon. Johnny was perfectly cast as the bumbling (although intelligent) Ichabod Crane. Great reaction guys, and thanks for the laughs with each Ica-bob!
Im right down the road from Sleepy Hollow Ulster county NY... it's beautiful this time of year...we got ECTO-1's from Ghostbusters driving around and Headless horseman everywhere 😅..its a trip.... excellent movie, great reaction guys 🔥🤘
I love this movie. The way it’s shot, the production design, the atmospheric look of the movie, the stunts, and the music are great. It’s a beautiful looking movie, and the headless horseman was cool, they did not shy away from the beheadings. I don’t think it needed the dream sequences of Ichabod’s mother, but I still love it, regardless.
The squeal I let out when I saw this notification pop up on my phone was a loud one! I’m in the office at the moment and I got some funny looks 😂 Popping my headphones in and gonna watch along as I work ❤
The way I started cracking up when Answer & Oak mentioned either O'Driscolls or Lemoyne Raiders at the "coveted" bridge scene 😂😂😂😂😂 Something tells me they're still playing it in their own time.
Such a great movie! Definitely one that is underrated. I'm with you Oak. Not a big Depp fan but there are certain ones where he shines and this is one.

One of my all-time favorite spooky season films! It's a shame that it's kind of undervalued compared to others. The moody atmosphere is just so cool. Since you mentioned the subtitles, I can explain that one for you since I've been doing captioning/subtitling for almost 10 years. It depends on the clients' preferences how certain SFX are worded, but for the most part, captions and ESDH (English Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) are geared towards viewers who have difficulty hearing all the dialogue, song lyrics, and SFX in media. They're descriptive like that so someone who's hearing impaired can get an idea of what's going on in the scene that can't be gleaned from the visuals. Just some editor nerd info for ya.
It was a flour mill, flour is actually very explosive when it is in powder form. The tiny flour particles in the air all ignite at once if exposed to a fire source.
This movie is honestly in my top 10 favs but I absolutely respect your opinion. Great casting, cinematography, effects....etc. Fun fact: Johnny Depp adopted Gunpowder after production wrapped. Also in the original story, Brom does play that prank on Ichabod.
37:10 It's actually true that grain dust can be very explosive. It's flammable of course, and if it's suspended in the air as a light powder it can catch fire and immolate an entire building in an instant.
As a piece of trivia Ichabod Crane was a real person. Before Washington Irving wrote the story he served under Col. Ichabod Crane during the War of 1812. He thought the name was interesting and used it in this story. Col. Crane is buried in an old cemetery on Staten Island, NY.
This was my first horror movie 😂 I was finally old enough to watch a Rated R movie, and this is the one l chose. It scared me so bad I stuck to PG13 for another year 😂😂😂

The flaming pumpkin was a nod to the Disney version because Bram and Katrina end up married in the cartoon, Ichabod is supposedly taken by the Horseman and never heard from again though there were rumors that he ended up married to a wealthy widow with lots of kids in another county. It does leave it open that Bram was Headless and he scared off Ichabod so he could secure Katrina's hand. No, Headless saw her and said oooh, she's cute. I want her, LOL!
Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane was a great choice! He was able to play a character who is odd and quirky, yet not stupid or insane. Also, Christopher Walken was like 10 min in the whole movie and did a spectacular job❤
I do like this movie and another good one with Jonny Deep was made around the same time is "From Hell". It is about Jack the Ripper. Just for information. Flour can explode, it has something to do with the flour dust and the air. Flour is a material that can also burn.

I was born and raised in Sleepy Hollow, NY till my 20s. If you ever find yourself there, you’ll be shocked at how much history belongs there. All the characters from the movie and the book were very real people who lived in the town and as a child we used to take field trips to the cemetery to see their graves. I also landscaped the Van Tassel estate for two summers. It’s still preserved perfectly and it’s awesome.

I was talking to my friend about the drizzly foggy weather we'd been getting here in northern England and he goes "it's very sleepy hollow out there tonight" 😂
Love this movie and love that Johnny Depp adopted his co worker golden eye the horse because she was blind in 1 eye after production she was to be put down but he stopped that and that is awesome
I can't believe you haven't watched this movie before. It's a real classic. You don't even have to be a JD fan to enjoy this. It's just so much fun. One of my favourites.
Love sleepy hollow movie and the town itself great time during the month of October you can visit the grave of washinton irving the author of sleepy hollow
Love this movie! A friend and I just went to Sleepy Hollow, NY last month. Its a very quaint little town. They really go all out with the headless horsemen theme. The area of North Tarrytown was renamed Sleepy Hollow in honor of the author Washington Irving. The cemetery is absolutely beautiful with close 47,000 graves. Washington Irving is laid to rest peacefully amongst his family in their plot. Highly recommend a visit!
Fun fact: The windmill did not explode because it was full of gunpowder. It exploded because it was full of flour. Ordinary flour is extremely flammable and will explode in the right conditions. Working in a flour mill is a hazardous job. Also, Katrina"s striped dress might be a tribute to Beetlejuice, since it's a Tim Burton movie, but that is a real style of dress from the period. There are black and white striped dresses like that in museums today.
There is so much to this film. It has beautiful cinematography and won the Oscar for Art/Set Direction. The complete town was a set. The people in the area wanted to keep it up but due to union laws and contracts, they had to tear it down. Depp always keeps one item from each film/movie he does and for this one he kept the Iron Maiden. The woman playing Ichabod’s mother is Lisa Marie, Tim Burton’s first wife. I loved her as the female alien in “Mars Attacks!” Christina Ricci was scared to do this film because it was her first film that she actually had to act with an accent. Christina and Depp “dated” during the shooting of this film. The road that horse and carriage went down was actually a set. It was a strip of a set that wasn’t very long, so Burton would use many different angles to make it seem as if it went on forever but it didn’t. The day of the shoot when Ichabod is being dragged behind the carriage and fighting the horseman, Depp was running a 101 degree temperature. There so much more but I’m sure y’all know just about everything from other people’s comments, like you missed Emperor Palpatine!
I watched this in college with friends and the running joke with the step mother is “bitch, you broke the stick!” and I love how Answer made the same joke 😂
same, I thought Oak at least would recognize him instantly. They recognized Vernon Dursley instantly, but not Dumbledore. And they must not be star wars fans either, The Emperor is in this movie too. Actually, I forgot how many Legendary, and known actors were in this movie. I keep seeing more and more faces I recognize from other films.
Set design & acting, but mostly the used of somewhat believable practical effects that stood the test of time are what stands out -- for me personally~
You guys should REALLY watch the thriller “Woman in black” the 1st one with Daniel Radcliffe. He did so amazing you separate him from being seen as Harry Potter only.
I can’t watch this because when I was 10 my brother told me it was a legend so it had to be true … i wish I ddnt have this irrational fear 😢😢 love your videos guys !
Johnny Depp adopted the horse Gunpowder bc he was going to be put down. The book has a different storyline but a classic just the same. Great movie and was released just at the turn of 1999. So when Ichabod said we are at the turn a new century, it coincided with our turn too. Also, when Ichabod was saying the Bronx are up and the Battery down, is a reference to the Sinatra song, New York New York.
Honestly, this is a really good film. Doesn't get talked about enough.
same I really like this movie
This film is definitely one of Johnny Depp's more underrated roles. I loved this movie so much.

The Disney cartoon is by far the most accurate adaptation of the original story.
26:00 cracked me up 😂😂 you guys are too funny
Love this movie and love that Johnny Depp adopted his co worker golden eye the horse because she was blind in 1 eye after production she was to be put down but he stopped that and that is awesome
i'm so happy this is one of my favorite movies😁 !!!
I can't believe you haven't watched this movie before. It's a real classic. You don't even have to be a JD fan to enjoy this. It's just so much fun. One of my favourites.
I love these surprise movie reactions. Never would have guessed this would be here.
Great movie!!!
Burton had no clue Coppola was involved until he saw the movie
love this movie. its too good. Johnny Depp played the part lie angela lansbury in murder she wrote
The ninth gate also 1999 ,also main lead cast is Johnny Depp, also mystery movie
I’m so excited you’re reacting to this it’s my favorite!!
We see a similar effect in The Equalizer 2.
Such a fun holiday film, always enjoyed watching this during the fall!
I remember my mom never letting me watch this movie because she thought it would be scary, I watched it as an adult and it was whimsical and fun. (:
One of my fav childhood movies I watched over and over with my best friend ❤...Our parents trusted us too much 😅
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised with this movie when I first saw it. The sets, the characters, writing, everything in good.
I watched this in college with friends and the running joke with the step mother is “bitch, you broke the stick!” and I love how Answer made the same joke 😂
I hear nothing but Dumbledore lol
same, I thought Oak at least would recognize him instantly. They recognized Vernon Dursley instantly, but not Dumbledore. And they must not be star wars fans either, The Emperor is in this movie too.
Actually, I forgot how many Legendary, and known actors were in this movie. I keep seeing more and more faces I recognize from other films.
And I see nothing but Alfred's mullet
Set design & acting, but mostly the used of somewhat believable practical effects that stood the test of time are what stands out -- for me personally~
You guys should REALLY watch the thriller “Woman in black” the 1st one with Daniel Radcliffe. He did so amazing you separate him from being seen as Harry Potter only.
I can’t watch this because when I was 10 my brother told me it was a legend so it had to be true … i wish I ddnt have this irrational fear 😢😢 love your videos guys !
All time favorite Johnny Depp movie - Donnie Brasco 10/10
3:22 the actor is Alun Armstrong; he's something of a mainstay of British television, but he was in Braveheart.
He was also in The Mummy Returns
Johnny Depp adopted the horse Gunpowder bc he was going to be put down. The book has a different storyline but a classic just the same. Great movie and was released just at the turn of 1999. So when Ichabod said we are at the turn a new century, it coincided with our turn too. Also, when Ichabod was saying the Bronx are up and the Battery down, is a reference to the Sinatra song, New York New York.
6:16 we have sheev palpatine and dumbledor in the same room 😭 and jack sparrow
