We have more Metal Gear content coming up in the next few weeks, voiced by a certain someone whose name rhymes with Dated Later.
Looking forward to it :D
Heck yes
Keeping us waiting huh?
If you want to improve the channel, do like the DidYouKnowGaming that I have known since the 2010s, not like now with worse script that is so lazy to listen to
I can't believe you got Mated Baiter back again. He's usually so busy now
So in an alternate timeline, "Armstrong" pulls out Raiden's guts and crushes his jaw, oh my f-cking goodness.
"You walk around the world to recruit troops from other PSP users you meet in the real world."
So Streetpass 5 years before the 3DS.
Why is everyone in the comments saying this? The PSP wasn't able to do that. Especially given the quote from Kojima, it sounds pretty specific to you playing with others, and then "connecting" in that way would add their character to your world. He said nothing at all that indicated a Streetpass-like feature. The PSP didn't automatically connect to other systems in the way that Streetpass did.
@@svenbtb Japan have a feature where your phone/device automatically connected to a public AP (Access Point). That's why it is called AP mode. The AP "should" able to collect data and share with other, but highly depended on the provider and prob a pain to works with.
Instead we got an amazing port of mgs 3 that unfortunately runs at 10fps on the 3ds
I’m dying at the Snake’s Revenge LCD
“I’ve got rations!… (Gets hit) OoOOoOooh” 9:31
"No man who loves cardboard can be evil" The ghost of solid snake
*Looks at Big Boss commiting War Crimes casually on the side*
True true
Re: MGS4 on the 360. it would've been hilarious considering Otacon's joke about not having to switch discs to change levels lmao
We could have had games starring the Boss, MGS Rising 2 and other beautiful titles but instead we got metal gear survive. Worst timeline
And a pachinko machine! 😂
I mean, there are timelines where these games didn’t exist at all.
Thanks Kojima for wasting so much money in licensing popular 80s music and too many little details.
MGSV is awful outside of important missions
@@Kimarnic you got an anime profile picture. Your opinion is invalid
@@KimarnicI wouldn't say it's "awful". It's the best-playing game in the series as far as controls, its gameplay and many elements of its design are very customizeable to your liking, and it's a great game to play when you just want to pop something in and just kill a few hours relaxing. You could do FAAAAAR worse.
I think a better term here is "not for you". ^^
Forever sad that we didn't get to see Raiden rescue Sunny.
I still make my eggs sunny side up to this day
At least that scouting in Normandy presumably helped with Death Stranding, so it wasn’t wasted
I can't believe that Platinum Games developed MGRR in 9 months, it must have been pure hell, that's probably why they were very reluctant with Kojima when he mentioned MGRR2
Everyone's Metal Gear reminds me of StreetPass on the 3DS. Considering the fact that the people you've met IRL manifest themselves in-game. Kojima predicting the future again.
portable ops is so shafted these days, but it must have been cool back in the day. you could get soldiers streetpass style, you could also get them from literally just detecting a wifi access point with your psp; and if you had the GPS addon then you could also get some pokemon go-style by going to specific places. somewhere on this website theres a video from like 2006 where 3 guys are just driving around neighborhoods getting new soldiers for the game from every house's wifi point
Kinda surprised they didn’t try to throw in any streetpass features into Snake Eater 3D
@@InvaderIceStrike Would’ve been cool, like how they’ve used the 3DS camera for camos. I'm not sure if it was time constraints, or hardware reasons (remember this could barely run on 3DS to begin with).
“If you don’t know about World War Two, but have seen the opening scene of saving private Ryan…”
Lol
I have been wishing for MG1 and 2 remakes for a long time, it's sad to learn Kojima wanted to make those but couldn't
Yeah, this was the gut-punch of the video. I think every fan was thinking those would be next to make it full circle after Phantom Pain.
Fans reverse engineered the original Metal Gear on the MSX and someone called h0ffman took that code and made his own Amiga port, including his own pretty badass soundtrack ..so at least the Amiga got its port in the end ;)
10:58 That dry delivery had me CACKLING. Fantastic.
That tease on more unrealised Kojima's ideas, looking forward to that video. Thanks for the fine work DYKG ✌🏼
Isn't Zanzibar Land Metal Gear 2? Metal Gear 1 is Outer Heaven.
I think Zanzibar was 1 and outter haven 2 I could be mistaken
You're correct.
@@HeyhoBrandotechnically bb calls zanzibar land outer heaven in mg2 so both are oh
@@willvermillion1025 it could be a Phantom Pain thing, where they made Mother Base in the same spot and still called it the same base name, same Name Different place for this.
Kojima actually wanting a hand in mgr2 and the business denying it feels like the opposite timeline to Kojima always getting brought back to the metal gear projects at konami
"You either die a hero..."
They really only tore him off of anything that wasn't Metal Gear, it seemed.
Platinum Games waving off Kojimas ideas was annoying too. PG was using the mans IP....fun lil game. But it was no MGS story lol.
After death stranding it’s pretty obvious that kojima was carried by his writing team most of the time. Like george lucas and Star Wars once kojima was in charge no one could tell him no.
I love your videos. Great journalism as usual. I was here for the modest beginnings, and I'm glad to see how your videos went from, understandably, pop facts to actual journalism and research.
Very well done, definitely a top tier channel.
Some of My biggest disappointment in my gaming life is that mgs5 was never fully completed and that we will never have a much needed remake of the old metal gear 1 and 2(not the solid titles)
mgsv is complete. Kojima has stated in multiple interviews that he's happy with how the game turned out. you can have your opinion but
@@mokatwhat about the cut out mission 51: kingdom of flies. Doesn't that make the game incomplete.
@@Slavic_Snake no not really, it's just something that didn't make it into the game, there's still a massive amount of game to play. mgs 2 had a bunch of stuff removed and that game is a masterpiece
@@mokat yeah but every plot point is completed in mgs2 by the end. In mgs5 you see Eli escape with Sahelanthropus in the game and then... nothing. Game doesn't follow it up it just leaves it like that, so it kinda is unfinished.
@@Slavic_Snake that's fair.
have you heard the phantom pain theory?
it's the theory that the game's story was intentionally left unfinished to give players the feeling of something being missing
I myself kinda agree but also think it's a bit copium
It'll be nice to see MGS Rising, cause I'd really like to see how'd the gameplay was going to be, and how the story would've looked like for Raiden's transformation from human to cyborg.
I can't even watch a video about unreleased Metal Gear games now without hearing Mr. Hayter in my head.
Great content DYKG!
The projects I really wanted to see through were the Cobra Unit's WWII game and the remakew of Metal Gear 1 & 2, especially after the ending of The Phantom Pain, encountering Venom Snake as it appeared in the final cinematic of that game but now as the final boss of MG1 would've been amazing
Finally, something besides pokemon or nintendo related content.
That Kojipro concept for MGSR sounded so cool!!! I wish we got that instead of the platinum title.
$125 is an expensive board game? Just wait till you see Warhammer
I love it when this guy does that deadpan humor. Yes, we really do live in the worst timeline because we didn't get the MGS Tiger Electronics game 😂
I'm sad we never got to play Metal Gear Crossing. 😢
Another great video, guys!
7:04 I have the suspicion, even though this would've been before 5 came out, that this was where the idea of MGS Survive stemmed from.
Kojima getting ghosted by Platinum for a game that would’ve been a sure success, then the Konami debacle, and then creating the mess that is death stranding. Hmmmm. Boss?
The funny thing about the card game is MGS did eventually get an official one coming later this year (along with a few unofficial ones that are worth checking out).
Edit: never mind, you covered it later in the vid
MGRR 10/11 years later. I personally think it’s one of my favorites. Manly due to the OST and boss fights!
Probably the only MG game you've ever played
kept you waiting huh?
Good to see you venom snake.
I would have love the gray fox rising game first and then the raiden one as rising 2.
For me, the most interesting ideas were the Sorrow Sandbox Game, The Minna’s Metal Gear, although I have no clue how It would’ve worked and The Coop Boss Fights Game, which would be amazing, because it would make those boss fights feel and play different than solo and also, would be the first real coop experience in the series, that would certainly atract new players to franchise.
Peace walker ignored
@@mobious01 Peace Walker has coop? I Never played it, being honest.
If you guys can find Rising devs, there has to be people who worked on TPP. How intentional that last act of the game was is one of the biggest mysteries that Kojima and Konami will never answer
“That’s an expensive board game” cries in Warhammer 40K
Awesome video
im sorry but stopping to explain the invasion of Normandy using Saving Private Ryan has to be the most ridiculous thing I've heard.
A huge amount of American children are literally illiterate, they’re more likely to have seen a movie or played a roblox d-day map than have basic knowledge of ww2.
According to surveys, most Americans can't even find Iraq or Afghanistan on a map. So when I was writing this video, I figured it was probably necessary to provide context for Normandy for the (probably high) percentage of viewers unfamiliar with WW2. Still got the problem of "well what if those people haven't even heard of Saving Private Ryan," but at that point I'm at a loss how to provide context in ~5 seconds. Can't have the video suddenly become a WW2 history lesson.
nah, he was just talking about normandy, and then just saying like: " you know, like where saving private ryan takes place!"
Just cuz it's common knowledge to you, doesn't mean everyone knows it. And the further from the event we get, the less relevant it becomes. That's just the nature of time
The boss rush campaign game thing reminds me of final fantasy record keeper a little bit
Great vid overall but just wanted to mention at 15:58, you guys say MG NES was developed by the same company that was going to make the Amiga port, Banana Development. This isn't correct, the NES version was handled internally at Konami by a different team. This was confirmed in interviews with Kojima. Charles didn't work on the NES version.
a game about sorrow would legitimately be a really cool idea, since he's one of the most important characters in the series
Do we really need to explain what Normandy was?
Most Americans can't find Iraq or Afghanistan on a map. So probably yes.
eh might be nice for some of the kids watching who might have not gotten to that part of history class yet.
You can easily tell this video was made in collaboration with two real Metal Gear experts such as Arc_Hound and BadHumans, bravi 👍 (if this is the result maybe I should consider the idea of giving advices to people on Twitter more often than I usually do...🤔)
But then they messed up the name of the location of the first game in the script.
17:16 - Zanzibar was the setting of Metal Gear 2. The original game was set in the fortress of Outer Heaven.
Welcome back guys....we missed you :)
Kept you waiting, huh?
I believe MGS4 will come to series x/s and ps5 if Konami launch a Vol 2. They can fit peace walker and twin snakes as well.
Going to get that board game!
Dr. Modnar in Rising is a callback to Snatcher, where there's a character Random Hajile who has deep ties to the story.
Solid video❤
Being sociable and making connections with people IRL became CQC them and strap a balloon on. You can tell what a good guy Hideo is just from things like that, and how execs really stifle his creativity for dollars.
That "Minna Metal Gear" idea sounds awesome! A Metal Gear/Animal Crossing chimera that relies heavily on social life and connectivity, what's not to love?
Although I don't think it'd been successful in the mid 2000s, today it'd be possible to pull off such idea successfully.
Too bad Konami is allergic to cool ideas.
That type of game COULD work as a mobile
title.
They're allergic to things that will ACTUALLY make money.
Metal Gear Survive is proof of that.
I still want the Cobra game
Thank you for reminding me that I have a Metal Gear Solid board game pre-order pending!
Yo, I’m going to meet David Hader next week. I’m so excited and I was thinking about canceled metal gear games last night.
Middle Gear games are good, but I've always been more of a fan of Beginning Gear games. Not sure why they keep making End Gear games, though.
Who's David Hader?
If you meet him, ask him about David Hayter, actor, screenwriter, and all-around nice guy.
Man we need another Metal Gear Rising. A game featuring the Boss during WW2 wouldve been so awesome.Only question is, if Kojima dared to me sneak into a concentration camp. Gameplaywise this woulve made an interessting rescue mission. "Your objective is to find and save Ariel Rotman, the greatest researcher of the Wehrmachts special development division the "Waffenkammer!". To our knowledge he is located in a prison facility called "Buchenwald". No one knows whats going on inside." Man..this is too insane to pull off.
A proper remake/reimagining of the original 2 MSX games is all I’ve ever wanted…here’s hoping that some day someone can take on that monumental task and do it justice…the stories of those games are so integral to the entire series canon and I’d kill to see what a modern version of them would look/play like
You should do a DYKG on the River City series. More Mega Man too
I wonder if the Platinum team ignored Kojima's ideas because they were burnt out after that 9 month dev cycle, or if they had to go through Konami's management and basically couldn't talk to him directly... or if they just didn't want to bother with him after they felt they handled the first one "on their own" so to speak. Maybe if they had a year, we could have had a much smoother weapon-change system ala DMC, rather than the MGS system that slowed things down...
At any rate, I wish we could have seen the CObra Unit game, I feel like that could have been the most interesting story, but at the same time Metal Gear feels like it got so stuck in the past and kept going back to Big Boss instead of going on to the future, maybe this hypothetical game would become interesting to fans of the Cobra Unit, but not really interesting to anyone else.
It's a real damn shame Kojima will never remake the original Metal Gear MSX games.
Portable Ops, Peace Walker, and MGS4 need to come to modern consoles alreadyyyyy!
Great to have another, did you know gaming, metal gear video. Thanks Boss 🫡
was just in that metal gear mood, thank you DYKG
7:57 - It's "Hee-deh-chan" radio, lol. It's from his name - Hideo, not the English verb "hide" 🤣
To be fair it's reasonable to assume either given his past with stealth games.
GROUND ZEROS SOLD MORE THAN MGS3! WHAT!
People usually forget this, but the only truly super successfull Metal Gear games were Solid 1 and Solid 2, after that they kept selling less and less while their budgets kept getting bigger.
GZ was sold on PS3,PS4,Xbox1 and PC. MGS3 was sold on PS2.
@@Jose-se9puMGS3 sold 6.2 million copies since 2005. It was super successful.
Yeah since 2005. Also, that isn't really a lot. If it sold that amount in it's opening week, that's something. @@user-pk3zw7mb8w
@@FyrdmanIt sold 3.6 million copies in the year 2005. It was a highly successful game of it's time and the numbers prove it.
When they don't post in 2 weeks you know they got something good cooking.
Nonono, Holographic Mugged PS1 Johnny cards worth more than your house.
I pre-ordered the board game last summer. looking forward to it hitting the table.
I liked the idea of the sorrow game, i hope Konami use that idea
I still want a WW2 Era game in the series. The Philosophers coming together, more backstory and time with the Cobras, etc.
Why does Kojima ignored Twins Snakes remake?
Metal gear is the series that keeps on giving
That's why Kojima is God. We'd all love a WW2 Boss/Cobra Unit game and and Frank Yeager/Cyborg Ninja game and we've all been saying it for years and years. Probably why Kojima likes those ideas. He already knows we'd want them....
I remember the teaser for Rising back in the day, and I loved it. I still loved Revengeance, but I always regretted not being able to see those events in Raiden's life. Some dialogues in mgs4 implies the core events (rescuing Sunny from the Patriots, getting his jaw destroyed, being saved and roboticized by Madnar from mg1) still happened, but it's not the same as going through them.
Kojidrone detected
And the only game that (Metal Gear) Survived is the one that shouldn't have.
Kojima seems like the kind of person who will have the broadest and least specific idea, then ask someone to develop it, and if they don't, it's their fault for not being able to realize his vision
8:09 The little humor in the subtitles :D
Oh haha that's just directly from the script, it was meant for the VO's reference. Didn't think it'd make it into the subtitles.
@@DJIVision glad it did!
8 minute unstoppable ad why?!
As for the tcg cards, it seems they ended releasing it once for Japan only. It was 2003-2004 and I was studying in Japan at the time. Visited a book and hobby store where one floor is dedicated for all kinds of popular anime stuffs and one corner they have hundreds of tcg from all the popular anime at the time, one that made me realize the trend of that time, if you are popular, you must have a tcg.
Anyway, I saw metal gear solid tcg, but being me a poor student and not into tcg at that time, I skipped it and bought a single booster of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance TCG instead. If only I have the knowledge how rare this could be....
There were some MGS1 cards, not playable though I don't think. Just collectible. Might've been what you spotted. Didn't know there was a FFTA TCG, that sounds awesome.
4's 360 port must have only been a vertical slice, since if there was a full working game somewhere; it would definitely have leaked
No doubt about it, probably a some kind of teaser...running poorly.
Forgot I had that pre-order on the board game lol.
I hope the announced future Koji-Pro game ends up being that MetalGear remake (with a different title, damn you Konami)
It would have been cool to see Metal Gear Rising starring Frank Jaeger
*I V E G O T R A T I O N S*
When I was following Kojima religiously back in the 2000’s i remembered Kojima really wanted to make a game about The Boss and I was legitimately hyped for it. The original Rising plot was also super exciting at the time but we got Revengence instead :(….
Wait, wasn't the setting of the first Metal Gear in Galuade/Outer Heaven and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake was in Zanzibarland?
Galuade was Ghost Babel.
@@NeverKetamine Tell me you never played MGS:GB without telling me you never played MGS:GB.
The whole game takes place in the same place as Metal Gear. You can even find the remains of the original Metal Gear battle tank during the events of the game.
@screamingfalcon71 I don't know what to tell you, it's a very easy fact and distinction to Google. GB takes place in an alternate timeline, one in which MG1 happened in a different time and location and with completely different events. The mainline Metal Gear series doesn't have any appearance of Galuade in it, it's a location exclusive to Ghost Babel. There's a 4th wall breaking reference to Ghost Babel that mentions Galuade in MGS4 if you look at the description of the FiveSeven but that's the only reference in the mainline series.
What were you saying about having not played GB? Seems like I'm the only one that really paid attention to the details here.
@NeverKetamine And you're missing the whole point of them mentioning the wrong location.
The first game took place in the mercenary fortress Outer Heaven (in an alternate timeline, it was repurposed into Galuade, making it the same place with a new name) and not Zanzibarland, which was the location from the second game.
@screamingfalcon71 Nope, you're missing it entirely. If it's the wrong location then there's no point to it besides a simple mistake on their part. Galuade and Outer Heaven aren't the same place, they're two different locations albeit with pretty much the same narrative purpose in two different unrelated universes. It's like how Solid Snake from the AC!D games is a completely different person to the mainline Solid Snake. Same name and fill a similar role, but they're completely seperate. No idea why you're pulling up Zanzibarland, I never mentioned it myself. This conversation is quite disjointed because it's just you not understanding what I'm saying, and because of that I have no use for it. Do some googling and calm down, maybe reread what I've said a couple times until you get it.
I had to specifically look for dykg, to get this video. Im subscribed but never get notifications for these guys.
Try clicking the bell icon again, there are two settings and you're probably not on the "all" option. Don't ask me why TH-cam thinks it's a good idea to have a subscription setting which doesn't always notify you.
Where can i preorder the board game. I literally cant find anywhere that'll let me
"Vespa Vespa, come to me my child"
Nano machine zombies? Interesting. So like metal gear survive.
I built two or three Pokemon decks that I was rather proud of and couldn't find a single person to play against.
Everyone and their mama had Magic decks though. I guess I wasn't cool enough.
“…for folks, watching that at super familiar with World War II” saddest thing I’ve heard in a while.
So the Mastery Collection 2 could possibly have a Xbox version of MGS4
Nowadays 50ghs a game is the norm on Modern Day Consoles
It's possible. Master Collection 1 came out on Xbox too, and it's likely that the next will include mgs4, and I don't think it'll skip the Xbox release.
You left out how there was going to be a MGS game for the Nokia Ngage, my source is Screwattack.
I've played that one before, it wasn't so bad. Unless there was another MGS planned for the N-gage which was canceled.
Kojima has had some horrific ideas...
Aw, a Metal Gear Solid video without David Hayter? That's too bad! :P
EDIT: *reads the pinned comment* Oh. Well, never mind then. Looking forward to that also :P
A co op game with a foxhound unit
i guess there a lot to be made but got cancel due to restrictions or no other company would want to pick it up.
All 6 of the cobra unit fighting in Normandy?
I'd have thought at least the end fighting in stalingrad alongside red army soldiers,
While the fear and the pain fighting in the Burma campaign and in Papua New Guinea alongside Australian and New Zealander troops.
