Thank you from Texas. I had a fish get super skinny and die; he got eaten by another fish. I will be treating my tank. I’m so grateful for your video. Bless you.
A bit off topic, but I wish there was an app or something that you could type in everything in your tank, what issues you are having and then get suggestions on whats the issue/how to treat it the best way possible ❤ Especially since everyones aquarium is unique and some treatments could benefit some more than others due to tankmates plants, water quality, tank size etc 😊 At the moment I am struggling with pest snails, but the most common way to get rid of them is to put stuff inside the aquarium that could kill our pets 😢 currently waiting on a solution from our local petstore
You can try getting a pea puffer.. they annihilate bladder snails but make sure you don’t have fry or little fish cus they we might go after them once the snails are gone. Or you can get an assassin snail to do the job. I just pick them out and toss them in the grass (from my pond) and home the lizards eat them lol
thanks! this is very helpful coz I have 6 female guppies that dies after giving birth. They become skinny and I really thought that it is normal until i see this video of yours.
I bought a whole batch of infected guppies in which all the adult fish died. There where about six baby fish mixed in. 4 of then just became adults. one female and 3 males. They seem very healthy and the female just had 5 babies herself. So I think if you give the babies fresh clean water in a new tank they will have a good chance at good health. The internal parasite are worms the sick fish pass in their poop. The eggs live on the bottom and are eaten by heathy fish a few months later so you must give the babies a clean tank without the eggs to stop the illness . Hope this helps. So far a have a small health group . Good luck. A medicine called general cure is used to fight this illness.
thank you! the day after I added praziquantel med to my guppy tank, I saw some of them pooping out what appears to be red worm XD imagine my satisfaction. it doesn't seem to harm my shrimps or snails too
It's possible not but likely in my opinion. You're not likely to ever rid your fish off all parasites completely. If you ever go fishing you'll see this reflected in the wild.
Great video man, I'm pretty new to the hobby and I lost my first group of guppies to internal worms and because I live in Ireland I couldn't get the medication needed, so I sanitized the whole tank and started fresh and my new guppies seem to be doing great and I've had my first batch of fry which are 1 month old now and are doing great, if you don't mind could I ask you a few questions about the hobby and guppies because you seem like an expert when it comes to guppies
@@KeepingFishSimple I noticed theres a big difference in size with my guppy fry, I feed them 5 times a day and they're in a big tank, do you know why this would be? Some of them are a lot smaller than the others and they're all from the one batch of fry
@@gerardcoyne6083it’s possible they could have been from different clutches. I have had several tequila sunrise guppies get skinny and die at all different times, my other guppies seem fine. However, I noticed one of my mosaics looked skinnier today, but I don’t know if it’s her being skinny or me just being used to her looking pregnant the first ten months of having her lol 🤔 All the girls have been separated into their own outside 40 gallon pond and I’m not sure how to dose that?? Is there a preventative medicine to just toss in there to kill any creatures that may land in there? I have some snails and shrimp in there too… I’m also in miami Florida so it’s got a bunch of algae right now, so that worries me that things can be hiding in that. All my floaters seem to melt away after getting algae on them. The summer has been chaos for the ponds. I’m pulling out clumps of algae and trying to scrub it off but it’s super tough. Anyway, I’m rambling, is there a preventative dosing to add to ponds or aquariums like these tablets? Or should I just toss them in?
thank you! i have a bunch of little happy guppy fry that have been growing great, but as theyve now matured enough that i could seperate males from females one of the baby ladies was strangely super skinny while everyone else is nice and round, i thought it might be some kind of malformation because they came from a guppy that may have inbred in the store before we got her, i think ill just catch her and give her some medicine seperately to avoid potentially messing up the microbiome and hurting my smallest fish, chilli rasboras, just incase- makes me a lil nervous
praziquantel apparently only affects worm's nerve system. my shrimps and snails are fine. as bonus i even saw my fish poop out red worm and some planarias panicking on the surface (easy to pick up)
I had a fish and when I was minding my own business, I passed by and saw my fish is starting to get super skinny😅 but a few days later it was so skinny that it sadly died😢
Your so right!!! It’s sooo annoying and when I have to deal with this or see a new guppy with issues I just wanna scream lol…. I’ve been treating mine with metroplex but it’s not working!!! Why do you think that is??
If you want them in there it is. Some snails came in from the pet store when I purchased a plant. I returned the normal size ones. The eggs and tiny fry snails got sucked up by the gravel vac and filtered out. They reproduce like crazy and can also reproduce asexually, so they can be a pest.
Unf we dont have praziquantel in my country but albendazole so i crushed few mgs with food for 5 days hoping to cure the guppies sofar 2 died after cure ...hoping to save the rest let s see 😢
I think my galaxy rasbora have this parasite, but the bigger fish of the aquarium like betta, ancistrus and sae don't have it. Isn't it contagious to them?
It sucks :( I just got a massive new 220L for my guppies to upgrade.....and now put of no where I’m noticing skinny guppies with shrivelled tails.Never had this issue with them and had raised them from fry
I have this issue right now, I added medication that will kill worm and fluke... does it work? its day 2 and my other platy starts to become skinny as well...

I know I'm late but wasting disease parasites hibernate as eggs inside the guppies intestines then hatch. It can take months for the problem to surface. They spread by guppies eating other fishes waste.

I was wondering the same thing
