Awesome video. I think every aquarist with some time in the driver seat can vouch how important quarantining is! I just wanted to add a couple things from my experience - if you have a tank with inverts or other sensitive fauna you can steadily raise the temp of the tank into the 90s, I did this and successfully rid my tank of Ich in about a week / week and a half with no Ich cure medication with no losses. Unfortunately rarely there are temp resistant strains of ich and in that case you have to use meds. Other thing, for dropsy you can add Epsom salt to your med tank and it will help reducing bloating/ inflammation along with meds, but make sure to use Epsom not aquarium salt. Also, never rule out columnaris which is getting way more prevalent and can pose as a fungal infection if you have a sudden high mortality rate. Its very hard to distinguish columnaris sometimes but it requires a whole new level or treatment and maybe even a tank restart ( i learned the hardway). Peace out thanks again for the video :))))
Hi, i just recently had an almost complete 20 gallon tank die off after changing out gravel. I wanted white instead of black. I had glofish white tetras which 10 died in 36 hours with no warning. I did 50% water change and used API Melafix and Pimafix and aquarium salt, but after 4 more weeks I lost all remaining tetras, original Platy, nerlite snail and the last Platy doesn't look like he is going to make it. He is on the bottom, fins clamped, very light color, white areas and not eating well. I've continued to treat the tank and take water samples into local aquarium store (not chain) thinking it could possibly be something in the tank that is not going away once all the fish die. COULD I HAVE COLUMNARIS?????
Thanks for the great points on how to prevent disease. I appreciate it very much. One suggestion that I have is to use less hours on the lighting. Live plants could do well with less light and yet, the fish are content with say 6 hours of bright light and the rest ambient light. This might help most people with an algae problem. I know this, that if I put my tanks on a 10 hour lighting scheme, the algae will grow profusely. Ambient light works well for the fish as well. #< Fishez

Hello! I need some help, I have a 50gallon community tank and a 2 weeks ago I started noticing some white spots on my silver dollar,I dint think much of it so I just left alone. My Betta died from columnaris about a month ago. His tank has been sitting empty ever since and still cycling. I’ve turned the temperature way down while it doesn’t have fish in it. Can you tell me what do I need to do to this tank to make it safe to put a new fish in it? I can’t seem to get a straight answer anywhere. People are suggesting I throw all the plants, substrate, driftwood and everything away, empty the tank and bleach it? That seems extreme to me especially considering I know that the bacteria is always in water to begin with ? Like I said it’s been sitting here without Fish in it for over a month. Should I just keep cycling at for a while and do water changes? Would that work so that I can add a new fish to it soon? I appreciate any help you can give me!
Oof- didn't know i had got a sickly fish from my LPS. It died, in the quarantine tank. So they replaced it for me.... again, died. So I haven't gone back to them. It's sad but a lesson learned.
Hi my name is Andrew I am just starting off a new aquarium or be and watching about all the diseases that humans and fish can get I am really worried shall I carry on doing it thank you
You say don't buy them unless they've been there for a week? I say they literally sell out every week. Get em while you can and quarantine them at home. Most fish stores worth a hoot have at least a one week warranty against dead fish as long as your water isn't like a sewer. If they kick it, take the dead fish and some of your tank water back to the store and talk to them about it.
I have fish with both fin rot and ich. Some fish have ich, some fish have fin rot. I have Melafix for the fin rot and Super Ich Cure for the ich. They're both by the brand API. I'm wondering if i could use them together to treat both symptoms.. please get back to me, thanks
I need help, one on my son's new mollies has a white lump/ulcer with a pick center on her side, she is staying at the top of the tank a lot. What could it be and what treatment should I use?
I need help, my Oscar is swimming upside down and in circles and is really weak, i dont know what to do. I know it’s not the filter or anything, i did a water change this week and the filter is clean but i made sure to keep an amount of the beneficial bacteria. My other fish is fine though, he’s healthy and everything but he might be bullying my oscar. Is he stressed or does he have swim bladder issues im scarred.
Thanks you've made me realise my fish was misdiagnosed at the weekend they suspected fungle due to white looking fin rot? Can fungus rot fins also? I'm now suspecting bacteria as its fin rot but the fins are white you see, just turned less transparent due to bacteria?
Bro, I need help, I'm so worried about my Angel Fish. I noticed a few weeks ago my fish is floating and not eating and I thought it's dying. Then today I found out my fish's belly is so big or bloated but still alive.
I had a glow shark that has been perfectly fine for months but recently I had noticed it started to loose color and was less active, then it’s spine began to curve and I found it this morning dead. I’m not sure at all what happened. The best physical features I noticed was like I said the now curved spine and then it appear to have dark long lines on its lower side almost looking like it swallowed an entire stick or something but I do not have any live plants. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I had one guppy with fin rot and swollen gills but it cured naturally when I put him in a seperate tank. The guppies in the tank are floating on top of the tank, in the corners and not moving. What should I do?
I have a one year old 5 gallon tank with hang on the back and the water is also year old, crystal clear only gravel and only 20 ppm nitrate 0 nitrites zero ammonia … I love my small tanks … my two 20 gallon hate me … and killed 35 fish one week
I have glowlight tetras and they are sick. They have white indents in their head or small bumps growing under there skin. They have curved gills and white stuff peeking out but not moving and not fuzzy. They only look hurt on their head, the rest of their bodies are fine. A few stopped eating for a while and the smallest one went to the top of the tank for the night and died the next day, all of them before they died went to the top of the tank or hid and looked pale. My water conditions are good, my friend filtration is good everything in my tank is good. None of my other fish are showing symptoms. I would really really appreciate some help, this has been happening over a period of months. I have no idea what is is or what to do. I've tried treating with an all-in-one treatment but it hasn't worked. Please could you give me some help?
My glo tetra is swimming very erratic I believe he has swim bladder. He is not thriving very thin. He can’t swim properly. He swims straight up but struggles then he just gives up and falls to the bottom of the tank. He looks exhausted just lays on the bottom. Then after some time he starts all over again. This all started after I fed them live black worms. I’ve treated with kanaplex kinda helped at first but not for long. I did move him to a spare tank. None of the other fish are displaying anything abnormal. I’m afraid he is suffering and I don’t know what to do 😢 I don’t want him to suffer. Please help us🙏
Can someone please help me understand this: My 2 ancistruses, 6 Danios and cory catfish have all died, but my neon tetras and angelfish are perfectly fine?
