    "I'm not going to sell it without knowing if it works." Now that is an enthusiast, not just a retailer. Huge respect for that, Cory. I learned a lot from this video. Thankfully being in the Dallas, Tx area my water is fairly well suited for livebearers, it's hard with a 7.3-ish pH. But knowing what to keep on hand in case I have problems is a huge help.

    I recently unsubscribed from a Fish TH-camr who doesn't give out consistent reliable information and does not quarantine. Through the years I also found out that quarantining the fish is best for their long term survival (just like you said). Absolutely love how you present the information in these videos. The first one of these that i saw was on the mystery Tetras disease. As a Nurse I am okay with accepting that there are things i/we may not know. I am not comfortable with the mentality that stops at the unknown without trying to figure out what is going on. The approach that you present is fantastic and completely practical, and provides more information to fish keepers than I see on most websites and other videos. It seems that a lot of what is out there for the entry level hobbyist is just regurgitated superficial 2nd hand gossip. Definitely need what you are offering.
    One of the only things I can think of that I could ask for, and you provided part of it with the red worm info, is contagion and adverse impact of treatments on common tankmates... Or at least a link to a article or a thread from your forum that discusses these things. Like the treatment for planaria can kill snails. I have some wild snails and an old bladder snail in my tank, had another hobbyist not made the comment that they thought the reatment killed snails I would have wiped them out...

    Cory, your videos helped me nurse a rescued goldfish (lived in a small bowl with a colleague for nearly a year) back to health and in the process are turning me into a full on hobbyist. Thank you so much.
    I do have a question for you about my fish: I can tell from research on goldfish that he is smaller than he should be at a year old. I assume this is from poor conditions in a confined space. He has grown a tiny bit but not much in the 2 months he’s been in a larger tank with plants and filtration. Is his growth irreparably stunted? Is this going to cause internal issues with organ functions, etc.. I just want to give this fish a good life. Thank you for reading.

    See, I love keeping fish, but one thing I wish I would of known before I started the hobby when I was 12 was knowing how delicate fish are and how many diseases they can get! Literally, fish are so fragile that they could simply get sick just from your water that you get out of your facet! Each city has different water which each could affect your fish differently!

I would like to start adding salt to make it more brackish because I understand the benefits but I am afraid of killing off the Tetras. I've read the X-rays can handle more of a brackish water but I'm not sure of how much salt I should actually add before it would be too much for them to handle. Suggestions?

    Thanks for all the information you kindly share! Our platys were born at home. Our oldest female 1 platy (2-3 yrs) was doing well until a month ago when i did a floor cleaning and beneficial bacteria died altering parameters (got beneficial bacteria 3 dias after the change) . She started loosing weight quickly but she still kept her appetite. About 1 week ago i put her in a breeding cage to monitor, i fed her de shelled peas soaked in garlic and 'just' taste it from my hand. She had a darkening of what seems her digestive track line since the beginning but i never saw her poop anything at all and had difficulty keeping the food inside her mouth. After 3 days of micro feeding (tasting) her darkening of digestive track has extended to the abdomen (looks like hemorrhage). How can i help her and her tank family (nephew and niece), 25 L planted tank good parameters (now), weekly water changes. Should i worry about wasting disease, viral septicemia or worms? (as i said all were born at home including this senior female platy). Thanks SO MUCH!

  • @majorbruster5916
    @majorbruster5916 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Apologies for being pedantic but at 2:20 adding salt, as in cooking salt (NaCl), does not increase the hardness of the water. This increases the conductivity because you are adding electrolytes to the water. Adding calcium or magnesium salts to the tank water will raise the hardness as well as the conductivity, not to mention the pH. As you said previously, maintaining the correct water chemistry in the first place, goes a long way to maintaining our fishes' health.

    Hi! My endlers have the opposite of wasting disease. They look so chubby! I have cut back on their food but they look like they have thanksgiving dinner everyday. I can’t imagine they all have the same tumor at the same time? They are different strains, from two different stores, but I suppose a parasite could still be an option. Most of my neocardinas have disappeared so I thought they were just eating all the babies, but they couldn’t eat the adults!

    This is very relevant in my current situation with my endlers. And there is nobody that can help me at all here in Singapore. People don't seem to know much about fish where I live.

      Also you might need to go to a vet and go to a human pharmacy

    I've had a recent experience with my mollies. I think one of them got hurt on decor, and it developed fungus on that spot.

    Hi I hope you don't mind me asking. I don't understand how do I fix the shimmy? Does salt fix it?

    • @hushfan
      @hushfan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just got the fish from a farm. And it came already shimmying. My tank water has 0 ammonia, pH of 7.6. No nitrates but they all went to the bottom of the tank and just sat there. When it came up they kept shimmying nonstop. It's making me so stressed 😩
