My grandpa have some of the most hardy guppies, like really hardy that he keeps in his small indoor pond with no filter, no water circulation, no water changes and my cousin's giant red-eared slider. He's only been giving them plain bread for 30 years+ and they still keeps on thriving and breeding new generations, the only thing that they're mising is the colors, they have a full black body with a speck of color on their tail, some males will have a purple body, red fins and some spots on their tail but they're pretty rare, they're also very small and skinny unlike the domesticated guppies.

I had a guppy tank for 2 years. I tried to add different guppy’s from different places and they lived for a long time. They made babies like crazy! I was giving them away to friends and family and keeping some of my favorites. Buy by the 2 year mark I noticed some of them were starting to have bent spines and wired looking belly’s. I scrapped the whole tank. Had a friend take all the mails and gave all the females to a local pet shop.

Oh they’re hardy alright. My boyfriend brought home some baby guppies given to him. I thought why in the hell... had no idea what to do with them. So I kept them in Tupperware. It’s been a week and they were fed once (no filter or anything so fed once to minimize potential harmful bacteria) - still alive. They have just been upgraded to a 10g aquarium. Currently acclimating. Fingers crossed

Interesting you mentioned buying sick guppies. I had the same thought process (I need to save them!) but the store had a policy of not selling sick or weak fish as they are liable for refunding you if it dies or makes the other fish in you tank ill, as the communication of "I want that fish because it looks ill" is the store admitting to selling you a faulty product. It made sense.

    As for variety diet,
    Mix:
-Dried tiny shrimp (from Asian shop)
    -Fish flakes, tiny pallets
    -dog food pallets
    -dried seaweed
    -aloe powder
I jus take a mix of everything n grind to micro pallets (gud enuf for Frys)
N feed X3 times wid tiny portions so it's eaten. A wave flow circulate so get eaten but a few loaches keep waste at bottom to minimum.

One of the largest females I have seen. I added a male to the tank because I wanted her to breed before she died. Her first spawn she produced around 120 fry. I couldn't believe how many she produced. She is a about to drop her second spawn within the next few days. For guppys, I find that corys are just like great ! They do not compete, they each take care of their own layer - and they keep the substrate clean !
Well, actually, guppys WILL be agressive towards very young corys, but once the corys are 1 cm long, they are safe..
I have my 200L (~50Gal) tank which started with 10 guppys, now, after 6 month more like 150 of them - and some look absolutely gorgeous..
Also started with 10 corys, now have like.. 50 ! (but I had to pick the eggs and let them grow in a small separate 20L (5 Gal) tank)..
Death rate is about 2 guppys per month and 1 cory per month - I think that's reasonable ! A few Tetras in the tank and a couple of bristlenoses !.. And 2 kribs (which I need to pass along to someone else)
Then the Kribs (Pelvicachromis pulsher) - kind of keep the guppys in check.. those that make it through are the strong ones !
Oh and also... I suspect some of my original guppys might be endler guppy (P. wingei) hybrids (the third generation lyra tail color shape kinds of give it away - but that's fine by me)

If you’re not ready for the potentially numbers they can reproduce to, I’d personally put them with species that can eat the fry. It’s a little gruesome, but it’s more ethical that letting the tank get overstocked without a place to send the extra guppies. I personally keep my guppies with a betta (with bettas, it obviously depends on their perosnallity, mine might as well be Ghandi like). and some African dwarf frogs.

Unless you live in a very warm climate, you'll need a heater, you also need filtration.

What would you recommend for feeder guppies? Because I just rescued a dozen feeder guppies from a pet store and I don't know anything about them! The fancy guppies don't live for me! And these guys have last time I had them years ago! I don't remember what I did to keep them going! And I need advice! Thanks

Thank you, I have randomly lost a couple of my guppy friends and was worried I was doing something wrong. All the others looked fine so I was thinking it was just age related, especially as their colour had started fading before they died like an old person going grey, but they were still eating and swimming around.

I dont have guppies but I have a 10 gallon "which will become a 20 gallon soon" it's a community tank built around a betta, we have 1 betta, 1 zebra danio which we will get 4-6 more when we get the 20 long we have 4 ember tetras which we will trade in when we get the new tank. We have 4 neon tetras which we will also get more. And we will get some cherry shrimp

    So… one thing I don’t understand about the breeding…
If your tank is supposed to be so big, to accommodate a few guppies, example mine is 15 gallon.
And then they breed, and keep breeding,
    1. What happens to those space requirements?
    2. What am i supposed to do if I don’t want ALL of those fish? Am i supposed to flush some babies? Because I’m not sure I can do that.
    Thank you, Kim New York✌🏼

I know this is an old video. But would love your input. I am getting a 4ft aquarium in september for my birthday. I know the basics of aquarium keeping I used to have multiple tanks, but shut them down during a high risk pregnancy 5.5yrs ago, couldn't do water changes on 4ft, 3ft and nano tanks when I was meant to be on bedrest. Anyway, my stocking plan is based around getting 1-2 pairs of GBRS/Dark nights. I would like to get a shoal of pacific blue eyes, 1 or2 L numbers, but I am also considering getting a trio of nice fancy home bred Guppies(like maybe black or blue metal lace snake skins, or purple dragons). My hope is that they will just breed, I can build a nice colony of breeding guppies and maybe have a few fancy guppies to sell every couple of months out of the tank(will be sticking to just one type and trying to breed true. BUT I am wondering, can guppies be bred successfully and with healthy juvies, in softer/lower PH water? Or should I just scrap that idea haha

I have read for a 4ft aquarium they recommend canister filters. What do I do? I am very new to this and I want to keep multiple different types of fish

Add a sponge intake filter. This will keep fry and food from getting sucked into the filtration system.

My new guppy keeps swimming up and down the tank...what's the problem

    • @indraneelmenon
      @indraneelmenon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

No probs, some guppies become very active in a new tank. It also means he is perfectly healthy. And another reason is sometimes the guppy might be seeing his reflection in the edge of the tank and chasing it.

Is 72F min really what's recommended? lol. I have a few guppies with my boraras briggitae chilling aroung 68. But yeah, great video dude, I'm getting multiple tank syndrome so there may be more guppies soon

I work at a bigbox pet store and I tell customers that guppies are basically aquatic rabbits.

I'm starting to wonder if I was just very unlucky with my guppies... They'd nap each other's fins until they could barely swim and they just kept attacking each other... Got them from a great shop but they didn't understand why they were so aggressive all the time.. I've just decided to stay away from them tbh

What is the minimum size of fish tank I should get for 4 guppies...
And is it necessary to give medicine even if they are healthy before adding them in aquarium

    • @hopetikvah4906
      @hopetikvah4906 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The minimum for four guppies is five gallons, but 10 gallons is better, given how fast they breed (unless you have one sex)
