I messed up hard this quest the first time. Cheered moore up, help hornsent but didn't summon him in messer fight. Help freyja but didn't help anbasch. Didn't do thiolier quest. Got the ultimate leda invasion with a mohg noble but he dies in like 30s.
Man I wish I found this sooner lol . Amazing video, I had to take on Last boss without any operators because I made basically all the bad choices. Thanks for the guide mate I guess next time I will try to get more achieved.
Eh, don't worry too much about it. The summons would make the fight MUCH harder. They add more HP to the final boss. And they're bulky enough without that additional HP.... Worst thing is missing Ansbach's drip.
12:03 *IMPORTANT* make sure you tell him about Freyja's plans FIRST before the first option. After I gave her his note, he was gone in my game and there's no option to continue his quest as of right now for me.
It’s supposed to be cryptic and weird and otherworldly. I like that Fromsoft keeps to its design philosophy. There’s plenty of open world games with clear quest progression, and that tends to feel like a checklist. Just my personal opinion. No right answer
They should've made it more like Ranni's questline. It's hard to fuck up (unless you're a bad person), curiosity gets a good chunk of it done, and it's pretty easy to figure out what to do.
I'm so pissed I missed out on this quest and not without a lack of trying. I got the dlc mad early so there was no clue anywhere. I explored so much too. Now I have to go NG+ to do it
That's the point of the game. Developers crafted this complex questline and different rewards per playthrough so that you MUST play the game again in order to get other rewards. If you got all of them in one playthrough. Would you continue playing the game again after collected everything? You would say the game can be completed in less than a day if you can do ALL of them in one play.
Actually you can still get hornsent to help you fight messmer even after you started fighting messmer unsuccessfully. You can go back to Leda where she seeks to go after Hornsent. Go to the castle where they fight. Then side with hornsent. Once you win the fight go back to the Messmer fight and Hornsent will be able to be summoned by golden message on the ground at the entrance of the arena inside the messmer boss fight.
Hey bud, you forgot to mention that if you help Leda against Ansbach, you get the Double Lacerating Tree charm, but you get locked out of the Scythe and Ash of War.
Honestly, the only ones I put a lot of effort into were Ansbach (plus Freyja's stuff attached to him) and Thiollier I completely forgot about Leda and Hornsent and procrastinated on doing them until Enir Ilim when I finally remembered I pretty much got everything. Summoned Hornsent for Messmer and all that too
well thank you so much. i will literally follow your guide step by step but that’s what i hate about this game. missing a npc dialogue option in one questline can completely mess up the other questline and there is no in game guide at least to tell you when to talk to who.
It really wasn't that bad. I just saw this thumbnail, I did these with no guide and you just have to read and explore. Most people seem to want to get one weapon and do a boss rush.
This is basically the same complaint from anyone who finds any questline or story of Souls games that is confusing but im guessing a lot of you making this complaint dont actually do the detective work and figure it out but hey some people do need someone to hold their hand not that it's a bad thing but these games are hard for a reason because you need to figure it out from boss fights to puzzles and quests but im guessing you may know that already! But That's my opinion
did ng+ for ansbach bow. followed this guide, and now i missed out on it because i helped hornsent! i love how the missed and gained items were put at the very end of the video.
I’m telling y’all messing up the quest and finding out later is part of the charm if they handhold you and they put in quest markers or a quest log then it’s just like every other game where you’re just running through a list. Part of what makes the experience it’s just running into someone and they disappear and then you find them down the road. It’s not about just doing the quest. It’s about the whole experience of it.
To be honest this is my one real gripe with fromsoft games. It's not the principle of it, I actually like having sort of weird and non linear feeling interactions. The only real issue is you often don't know when you need to rest at a site of grace/bonfire to reset an NPC, and when an NPC does leave, they often seem to disappear. I do NOT think quest markers are ever a good idea to solve this, but I do think that including a piece of dialogue the character says to at least vaguely indicate where they are going, or maybe leave the player a note with a vague idea of where they are going. I like vague quests, but sometimes they are OPAQUELY vague.
@@jkthegreat5687it’s really not that much effort lol, you can instantly recognise dialogue you’ve heard before and hearing new dialogue is always really satisfying, if NPC quests aren’t your cup of tea just say so, and if you just want the rewards that’s what these videos are for

Long story short if you want all the rewards in the first playthrough side with leda then ansbach by missing the swift ash of war ( from hornsent) and second talisman ( from leda ) , in the second plathrough side with leda both times . All rewards in only 2 playthroghs ✌🏻
What I did: 1. Meet all the npcs in the gravesite plain 2. Reach scadu Altus and talk to the first npcs you meet 3. Break the charm 4. Defeat messmer 5. Fail Hornsent's quest 6. Forget about NPCs for the rest of the DLC 7. Remeber about NPCs after being 80% done with the DLC but still not unlocking Enir Elim 8. Look up all their quests 9. Still manage to complete them all lmao (except hornsent of course) What I noticed during my scuffed quest completion. After defeating Messmer only the Hornsent quest gets triggered to go further. Neither Moore nor Thiollier nor Frejya and Ansbach NOR Leda advance further. When the charm is broken Moore will ask you a question about moving forward. I personally chose the "move on" option and after that he still gave me the syrup (too bad I can't use it anymore since I have defeated Bayle before doing any of their questlines ugh). Thiollier only decides to move south only after talking with him and resting a couple of times. You can progress his quest without hiccups Freyja and Ansbach somehow did not give me any trouble. I have not talked to Ansbach before beating Messmer and found Freyja at the seventh floor like I was supposed to. After beating messmer I found the scroll and gave it ansbach. Then I told him about Leda and immediately received the letter. Gave it to Leda and was done with her. The mute Monk dude was a no brainer. Just jesture at him and get his loot. He doesn't move at all I guess. And that was it! I personally don't get why people are so angry at the quest system since they give a lot of failsafes even after breaking the charm and defeating Messmer. The only two questlines I have bricked were the Dragon Priestess and the Hornsent. But that was easily avoidable have I talked to Moore and Theoillier more and actually paid attention to whatever Hornsent was trying to tell me. Edit: typos and grammar (There is still more that I haven't noticed for sure lol)
U get the bow if u assist or kill ansbach. If u assist leda, then u can talk to her to get a different talisman than the one mentioned in the video after killing ansbach.
As much fun as I had with Elden Ring and previous souls games, the questlines have always been an abomination, same goes for the cryptic lore. In my opinion the games would be far better if these were modernized. I don't wand my hand to be held in such games (the only reason I play FS games is because I welcome a challenge), but man, having to rely on the internet to figure out where to go and where not to so you don't mess up quests has always been annoying to me, ever since dark souls 1. Why can't we have a questlog? Why do we have to rely on Vaati (no disrespect to him, his videos are epic) to understand the lore? These are shortcomings of Elden Ring and I hope that FromSoft will eventually accept this and improve here. Thank you very much for this video. It shouldn't be necessary to make it, but with FS games, it is :'D
You could easily just do all of these by playing through the game particularly Asbanch Moore’s questline is the most complicated and the easiest to fuck up or you have to do is move a little too close to the shadow keep and you’ve basically ruined everything
I’ve watched 4 videos on these quests lines and you’re the only one who mentions the soup for grandma horns. I’m mad cuz I think I messed something up. Everyone’s gone and I’m stuck on Messmer with no summon for hornyman.
I think in 6:25 "Assist Leda or Hornsent" you to tell that if you help Hornset you will miss Assist Ansbach or Freyja. Putting at 12:52 might be too late for people who follow the tutorial lol.
I already messed up by going straight to Shadow Keep, that's why I'm watching this video. I have a question for you guys and would appreciate any help you can give me. Is Counts Ymirs questline affected if you shatter the Great Rune???
If you don't do neither and proceed to kill Messmer with the help of the hornsent, you won't get the ash of war and the talisman from Leda, and he'll still invade you at the Rauh ruins
I'm glad we can all agree that fromsoft's quest design is bad. Even an item description that hints at where to go next would make this so much more enjoyable.
Leda was such a psychopath I couldn't even choose any option anymore. I just came up to talk to her and she said "you again. I've decided to kill whatever, you may assist me" and that's that. 💀
WTF 😡 I did exactly what you said. I completely ignored hornsent and after getting to the 7th floor and talking to Freya then Ansbach I got her shield . I go back to give Ansbach the letter and he’s gone Not only that. When I go back to talk to Leda i can only pick Horns or The junky guy. Nobody has a video on only getting the Fkn bow. Instead they’re 1000 videos of the entire 4 npc quest that jumps around. So dang frustrating trying to get this bow. I don’t even use bows I just want it. But so far on all 3 of my accounts I can only get the hornsent Leda summons.
After all my research, I still havent been able to determine what happens if you side with Leda and kill Ansbach. I'd assume you get his set, but it has been vastly unclear whether you get his scythe or not. I'd prefer to get the roll/backstep talisman you get for helping Leda against Ansbach, but if it means I don't get the scythe and incant, maybe not.
I messed up by killing horn's grandmother. i got the scorpion soup and gave it to him, Leda is still planning on killing him but, even though her dialogue is complete, their signs don't show up because that was one of the first bosses I beat. I can't use the beast head at the grandma because, well she's dead.I am not able to summon Hornset either to fight Leda or at Messmer. Ended up beating Messmer, and Hornset was at the site of grace after Messmer fight whining about not getting vengeance, now he is disappeared.
I never got Freyja's letter because I found the scroll a d gave it to Ansbach before I found Freyja upstairs. Now Ansbach is gone and Freyja is still crouched but the stones slabs and stuck in the dialogue about those not making sense :/. I'm afraid I screwed up their questlines
I completed 2 play throughs without getting this quest off the ground so i now need 2 more play throughs to get all of ansbach’s drops and leda’s ash of war…. Oh well lol
Doesn’t Leda give you another talisman or something if you assist her in killing ansbach. I thought there was on for hornsent and then a second one for ansbach.
How is a person without the internet meant to figure this all out.

I killed Moore when he invaded me because... he freaking invaded me for killing one of the nastiest monsters in the game (those nasty scorpian creatures we've been terrified by the whole game to that point). Too many steps with zero guidance. They messed this up
breaking the seal doesn't break any quest, all it does is allow you to continue them.
You can also have Thiollier join you for both the Leda fight and the final boss if you complete his questline before reaching Enir Ilim, and then when you complete the DLC you can find his armour and weapon
Personally, for the first time in a from game, I organically did three npc quests … hornsent, poison boy and Ansbach. As well as fingers McGee
🍪
How did you know to drink St Trina's thing 4 times tho?
@@iplayfifasadge because Miyazaki
@@iplayfifasadge That one is pretty cryptic yeah. but can be a bit less cryptic if you meet Tholier(poison boy) first.he becomes sortof a guide for tha short yet confusing St.Trina loredump
I needed this video like a week ago 😭 now i gotta replay the dlc to get all my collectables
I have to do it again for some things I missed
@@PhillyBeatzGames 😅 life of a gamer, we always miss something on the first run
That’s why this game sucks
All I really want is all of ansbach's stuff, and it appears that no matter your choices, you get that. So long as you dont ignore him of course
For the Golden Hippo, you can actually summon both Freya and Hornsent
How?
How?
@@Nazgoulthegreat You need to exhaust Freya dialogue and make sure you also do the lion boss before doing the golden hippo. The exhaust her dialogue again.
@@amyrark are u confusing hippo with the lion guy?
@@thedaredvermin8906 what do you mean?
Bro is awesome for this. Dude is a bigger homie than Ansbach cause that swift slash is op as fuck.
Hornsent such a weird guy, u help him out from getting killed by leda, and some how, he shows up to help HER out in that gank fight, what a class act.. lol
How did that happen? I killed him after he invaded me. He never showed up in the final fight.
Yeah cause he sucks
I think that happens because you don’t summon him for Messmer so he feels denied his vengeance
I haven’t been using mimic for the dlc but made sure to use the NPC summons for this very reason
@EnginesofNurgle-ku9ug nah i did, after the fight I talked with his grandma 1st and she told me no one will get in my way to finish the fight, and hornset was gone from the boss area and didn't invade me b4 the sealing tree boss, but then showed up to help Leda, I thought what an ungrateful SoB
He invaded me but didn’t show up to leda fight. I summoned him in messmer fight too
Thank you, you've compiled the pros and cons very well! and I watched 3-4 videos, this was very clear
6:07 you can just warp to the exact grace you're already at to refresh/progress NPC dialogue in such situations, no need to warp to another grace and then come back.
5:20 you can also summon freyja if you talk to her after divine beast
I messed up hard this quest the first time. Cheered moore up, help hornsent but didn't summon him in messer fight. Help freyja but didn't help anbasch. Didn't do thiolier quest. Got the ultimate leda invasion with a mohg noble but he dies in like 30s.
Thanks, I missed out on ansbach’s stuff. Great video everything is well explained.
Yeah he definitely should have mentioned that if you kill Leda then you screw yourself over for ansbachs bow 🤬
@@DataDrain02 haha yeah the main reason I facepalmed 😅
12:03 *IMPORTANT* make sure you tell him about Freyja's plans FIRST before the first option. After I gave her his note, he was gone in my game and there's no option to continue his quest as of right now for me.
Omg i did this and now i cant finish the quest lol
Thank you, thank you brother, I appreciate it. very clear, straight to the point and well explained.
It’s supposed to be cryptic and weird and otherworldly. I like that Fromsoft keeps to its design philosophy. There’s plenty of open world games with clear quest progression, and that tends to feel like a checklist. Just my personal opinion. No right answer
Even if you are summoned to fight Mesmer without entering the boss room in your own world, the quest progress will change.
Yeah, I was waiting for this part. Leda gives two different talismans. So in order to acquire everything you will need 3 playthroughs?
@@treecko0335 Nope, only two. The first playthrough you can side either with Hornsent and Ansbach and the other only with Leda, or vice versa.
Honestly, the only ones I put a lot of effort into were Ansbach (plus Freyja's stuff attached to him) and Thiollier
I completely forgot about Leda and Hornsent and procrastinated on doing them until Enir Ilim when I finally remembered
I pretty much got everything. Summoned Hornsent for Messmer and all that too
Nearly 3 years later and this game is still making me feel insane
well thank you so much. i will literally follow your guide step by step but that’s what i hate about this game. missing a npc dialogue option in one questline can completely mess up the other questline and there is no in game guide at least to tell you when to talk to who.
Uff that's bitter... This is not a well structured video
that bow is broke with shard item, st trine talis, and st trina arrows.
Maybe you could finished the 15 min video instead of go blind into another 25hrs NG+
This. I’m seeing so many complaints about FS games and it’s kind of hilarious. (Insert first time here meme)
The conclusion of option 2 is wrong? There is another talisman which Leda give for invading ansbach
Apparently theres another NPC that can be summoned inside Messmers boss arena if you did some quest beforehand
Jolan
Really great vid for my second playthrough. Won't miss anything this time 😭
I did the full quest on my first playthrough because I know how fromsoftware works lol. I talked to every npc every time I beat a boss
Yeah… sounds like fun.
@@jkthegreat5687it’s really not that much effort lol, you can instantly recognise dialogue you’ve heard before and hearing new dialogue is always really satisfying, if NPC quests aren’t your cup of tea just say so, and if you just want the rewards that’s what these videos are for
@@squeezy8414
Never said it was hard…
Never said I struggled….
Those quests just aren’t intuitive for the most part & they have been that way since demon souls.
Dying 4 times to st. Trina just for some dialogue is anything BUT exciting
if glorified fetch quests are what you call great quest design then i‘d suggest playing other games to broaden your horizon.
How do you know where the npc spawns tho? Millicent is hard to find if you defeat the skinny god skin dude near the windmills... like how would i know she goes there etc...
@@pennyroyalty420 I was talking about the dlc. There's only like 6 npcs to keep track of in the dlc and you run into them organically as you progress. I had to use a guide for milicent lol
Also remember to do all of Moore quest before getting close to shadowkeep or the church
Very well explained. Earned my sub.
14:15 For anyone trying to avoid Visual & Dialogue spoilers: Skip to the Mentioned TimeStamps, All you need to know is; meet & exhaust the dialougue all NPCs mentioned before entering a new boss or area: (Not Catacombs, Mines, or Caves); BE SURE TO REST AT SITES OF GRACE & REVISIT THE NPC TO MAKE SURE THE DIALOUGUE/EVENTS IS FULLY EXHAUSTED! then look out for summon & invading signs, again 14:15 will tell you in detail the results of choosing to invade or summon the NPCs..👍🏾
This guide was amazing.
Long story short if you want all the rewards in the first playthrough side with leda then ansbach by missing the swift ash of war ( from hornsent) and second talisman ( from leda ) , in the second plathrough side with leda both times . All rewards in only 2 playthroghs ✌🏻
Nice!, super well explained, thanks!
According to this guide. I stumbled through this questline and somehow managed to do it right
Me:
Try to be nice, get ganked by 5 NPCs
Thank you Dark Souls
Lmfaoo the pain
@@PhillyBeatzGames help lol leda keeps saying she needs time to think
I'm actually getting over stimulated right now
You can get both freyja and horsent help you fight the hippo if you exhaust freyja conversation.
What I did:
1. Meet all the npcs in the gravesite plain
2. Reach scadu Altus and talk to the first npcs you meet
3. Break the charm
4. Defeat messmer
5. Fail Hornsent's quest
6. Forget about NPCs for the rest of the DLC
7. Remeber about NPCs after being 80% done with the DLC but still not unlocking Enir Elim
8. Look up all their quests
9. Still manage to complete them all lmao (except hornsent of course)
What I noticed during my scuffed quest completion.
You can progress his quest without hiccups
Freyja and Ansbach somehow did not give me any trouble.
Leda is completely gone for me? Any advice?
If you kill ansbach in the 1st floor after you get freyja lion shield, you can still get his bow and armor set, even if you helped hornsent
then you miss his sycthe and ash of war at the end
I think if you don't summon him in during the Messer fight he won't invade you. That's what happened to me and I really wanted his Falx blades 😢
What happens if I skip both the Hornsent and Ansbach fight's with Leda?
You could easily just do all of these by playing through the game particularly Asbanch
Moore’s questline is the most complicated and the easiest to fuck up or you have to do is move a little too close to the shadow keep and you’ve basically ruined everything
I was able to get both hornsent and Freyja for the hippo fight
I guess I was lucky that I got most of the quest right. I missed the correct Moore's answer option.
Hornsent doesn't disappear once leda starts talking about who to choose. So uhhh, choose hornsent in options?
Thank god item duping is a thing. Im not doing a whole other playthrough because i didn't feel like watching a guide while playing the DLC.
5:23 I had hornsetn AND freyja summoned together to fight the hippo, and did NOT go back for talks before
Necessary video! thanks!
Even an item description that hints at where to go next would make this so much more enjoyable.
if u talked to thiollier after the great rune is broken you can also suggest to leda to kill thiollier
so, if you do every quest except hornseny-leda, you get the greatest clusterfuck possible on the leda fight
I go back to give Ansbach the letter and he’s gone
Not only that.
So assist Leda every time since you get better/more rewards.
You missed one thing.
If you DON'T help Leda kill Ansbach, you miss out on the retaliatory crossed tree talisman
Freyja and hornset helped me to kill the porcupine Hippo
I just realized that I had in my inventory Mikella's seal, and I broke it myself for runes 😂, I went to talk to them and then they disappeared
So theres no benefit to siding with Leda against Ansbach
different talisman, Leda gives two different talismans
I messed up some quest lines. I just played through and ended up fighting 3 of them. Horsent, dry leaf, and Leda
I must have done something really wrong because none of hornsents summon signs are appearing at all.
I completed 2 play throughs without getting this quest off the ground so i now need 2 more play throughs to get all of ansbach’s drops and leda’s ash of war…. Oh well lol
So should I fight Leda or Ansbach
I got to summon hornsent against messmer without helping either of them; in fact I never saw any summon signs in the space you showed
Leda has Thioler as an option for suggesting to kill
I gave Ansbach the scroll without selecting the Freyja dialogue and then assisted Hornsent. Did I screw myself over?
So basically by doing Ledas requests I screwed myself out of quite some rewards >.
This quest is so complicated because you can't get all the rewards in one playthrough saddly .
This is hard for me
I know! I still have to go through another play through for the other stuff
what about St. Trina, and Moore?
I have a separate video for both of them!
Fck I always hated this questline thing since Dark Souls 1.. but it's also the best reason to replay the game and just smash through every boss.
I for some reason can't join the fight between Leda and hornsent.
I haven't killed Rellana yet though so maybe that's it.
I got the letter to Freya. But she just kept saying she is busy. Not sure what went wrong.
Doesn’t Leda give you another talisman or something if you assist her in killing ansbach. I thought there was on for hornsent and then a second one for ansbach.
