do you need to summon Hornsent in the Messmer fight to progress his quest?

I usually hire pawns that are at the same level as my arisen. I recruited pawns that Capcom made. Recently I just recruited pawns made by other players and are at my current level. I have yet to receive a warning text about the dragonsplague. I guess higher level pawns are very likely to get that illness. Still even pawns that are at my level can still get them including my main pawn. I always keep a sharp eye on them and see if something is off as well as their eyes to see if they're not red.

It's worth mentioning that there are two eyes of occultation. Back at Shadow keep where you drain the water there are two giant ulcerated tree monsters one of them drops an eye

Thanks for your take on the game. I'm playing this on PS5 and while the game is gorgeous, I'm finding very early in the game that random battle encounters are taking place at a high frequency between every five to ten seconds or so when moving my party around in the wilderness/dungeon areas outside of the beginning area. The battle frequency, and choosing to play each battle at the highest speed just to get them over and done with, is becoming very grindy and repetitive very quickly.

Only downside is the more you fight it it does lower your xp amount obtained overtime I farmed it so much I'm only getting 200 per battle

This guide was amazing.

To me the most annoying fights came in the piccolo episode. Specifically getting the alternate ending with Frieza and imperfect cell. It's so annoying how the mission can just end for no reason.

This is what I did hit him until he fell charged until I got my ki completely, then shot 3 consecutive Kamehamehas, and I won in 10 minutes
