J-hope created the whistle melody and the song was born with JCole in his mind. He gives way for his idol be as you say JCole. He listens to jcole’s rap while dancing underground like he used to. This may represents J-Hope's journey from the bottom to the worldwide top, from the time when he danced to J. Cole's rap even before joining BTS to the today when he can make music with his muse.
Given all his hard work, i'm so proud of him. Now He has his idol in his music, sings together, and dances with Jcole's rapping. Happy to see his smile with his admirable artist. The billboard says 'its my call' as in its J-hope's call for the mandatory military service. He is enlisting for it soon n this is his last project and a gift to Army. Legendary collaboration with J.Cole his muse, the one who opened up hobi's world. On the street refers to where he organically originated from, his root that made him who he is today. Also on the street is a homage paid to Cole by Hobi for being his longest time inspiration.

Man, this song is fucking incredible, I can't stop listening to it. Jay let Cole have a full 32-bar proper verse and then Cole put all force and effort into his pen and ate that blaze of verse bro this is the embodiment of respect. Also Hoseok underground freestyling to on the top of the roof Cole is a damn circle of moments! Ugh this song is incredible. The MV also seems simple but it's sentimental.
An amazing metaphor. while J-Cole raps on the rooftop, hobi dances in the subway. it's the way hobi shows his great respect for Cole. while he was striving for his dream in the underground, cole was already his icon, like his sky. later hobi gets out of the underground and goes up to the rooftop and meets cole, meaning hobi became a great artist himself like his icon and got to work together with him finally.

It is a place where we can actually encounter and feel the real lives of people: a child’s innocent mind; first encounter with someone and falling in love; someone in an urgent moment; a quarrel; an avoidable breakup, etc. Street is a metaphor for life. I tried my best to convey all of this in the song, and wanted to share hope and courage to those who are walking through their lives.
I want this song to accompany all those who are off to a new start or on a long journey, like a friend. (Likely referring to say goodbye to his 20s and military enlistment)

Cole rapped because Hobi said he used to dance to his songs when he was young and to see him dance while collaborating on a special song for him with his idol...I got so emotional, I cried. Also when Hobi was finding his own style as a rapper J. Cole's style was his inspiration. When I saw the pictures of J. I believe J Hope is referring to both his love of street dance (remember his "Hope on the Street" dance videos?) AND the reminder to ARMY that, despite leaving for the military, he's still with us. We carry him with us everywhere we walk, run, love, dance and hope. He's still there.
I'm so happy J Hope was able to fulfill such a big dream by collabing with J Cole. From Born Singer to his album, Hope World (Cole World) and beyond, he's referenced his admiration for J Cole over and over again.
J-hope met J. Cole during Lollapalloza last year which you can see in the Disney Plus documentary called "J-hope in the Box". The song created by Hobi because it's a gift to his fans to say "See you later" since he will enter the military soon. If you also now the song "The Astronaut" by Jin from BTS you might notice the little similarity between the video for "On the street" and the video for "The Astronaut!, Anthony 🙂

Idk if the chat told you in twitch but JCole is Hobi’s idol. J-hope’s name & song Hope World is inspired by JCole/Cole World. The guys did a cover/adaption of Born Sinner (called Born Singer) back in 2013 but got permission to use it for Proof Album last year so that was the first contact. Then at Lolla, Hobi & Jimin met JCole. Hobi said he was working on this since Oct/Nov & this is his thank you/see you later song for Army before he goes into the military in the next month or so.

Bro J-Hope actually started his solo career so freaking strongly, clean, and well-planned. First, the JITB album which crashed all the stereotypes about him, and was filled with him alone as a whole! And then the first drop after his album is a song about his root, with his role model while freestyling to his verse !! He is so genius, I can't wait to see what he has cooked for us next!
