BTS’ rapline is absolutely insane. And once you learn what BTS’ music is about and what they stand for, you’ll be very happy and proud that your daughter chose this group of artists to have on her bedroom wall. Looking forward to your bonding experience, welcome to the family. 🫶🏼

@@ToneDeafMusiq If you like jcole you will like jhope NEURON MV, he does a triple entry with the word , neuron it was his underground dance group ( jhope was an underground dancer before BTS , starting to dancing to the OG hip hop songs , like j cole , which you can see the reference on that in this Mv when jcole is on top rapping meanwhile jhope is dancing to his verse on the subway aka underground) , Neuron as new run , aka a new connection , which goes with the other entry neuron the cells that are connected by synapsis. So in other words the song is about the connection we conscious and unconsciously made with people around us. It’s so good and Mv too ( jhope is not in the vid but it’s really show well Seoul , and their people ( the capital of SK ). I’m pretty sure your daughter likes that song. That song is from the album “hope on the streets”were made as an ost for his documental with the same name , where he travels to different places to meet with dancers of that determinate style , like hip hop he goes to NY , and in SK he is with his team NEURON. You can also see how good of a dancer jhope is and how he pay respect to his peers that inspired him. So good. Highly recommended is on prime.

I saw J-Hope live from the front row barricade at Lollapalooza, where he was the headliner. When I tell you he is an amazing performer (the best in K-pop), it’s not a lie. When I went to Lolla, most people had been there all day (myself included), and by the time the festival started, many people had passed out due to the extreme heat (it was around 90°F) with zero shade. A lot of people passed out throughout the show, including many ARMYs. Many people were wheelchaired out, and once you left, you couldn’t come back. So initially, there were more people, but it became less and less as the festival went on. By the time J-Hope came on, there were way fewer people, but you wouldn’t have noticed because of the crowd he pulled (the biggest in Lolla history). You also wouldn’t have noticed the earlier occurrences due to the crowd’s crazy energy. I’m not even joking or exaggerating when I say J-Hope’s mere presence revitalized me and gave me back the energy I had lost initially (I’m sure it was the same for the rest of the crowd). Literally, Green Day was playing on the opposite side of us, and their fans left to come see J-Hope because everyone in the park started hearing rumors about how good his stage was. Lmao, bro just has that type of aura.

Jhope is a big fan of jcole since he was a kid
he's a dancer so in the mv u can see him dancing while cole is rapping , he gives him the long verse on purpose, so the music video is basically like a story of the past of jhope (him dancing to Cole's songs)
Bts did a cover of "Born sinner" and they changed it totally with a Korean lyrics and they named it "Born singer" so if u want to dive to bts start with this song it will show u almost everything about the boys the rap, the singing and the meaningful lyrics 💜

@@ToneDeafMusiq I'll second the Born Singer recommendation. It was released to soundcloud by BTS July 2013 - just a few weeks after their debut as a time capsule for themselves and how they were feeling at the time. It's actually a really meaningful song for them - so much so that after they got JCole's permission they included it in their 2022 anthology album 'Proof' as the 1st track. I would highly highly highly recommend you reacting to their early 2015 or 2017 performance ...I'll share a link. th-cam.com/video/8cUQ3lF3_O8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=skBU7cXJ_yrwuDyM There is also a video of them performing it in 2022, but the passion and fire they had all those years ago...I would check out the early version 1st. J Hope met J Cole at Lallapalooza in 2022. He told J Cole that Cole was his muse. His biggest inspiration as an artist. BTS started off as a rap group. The rap line of RM, Suga, and J Hope all started in hip hop as teens (RM and Suga were 13 when they started and J Hope was 10 as a hip hop dancer).
You should check out some of the earlier songs such as Hip Hop Phile, Mic Drop, Ugh, Ddaeng, Cyphers 1-4. From RM - Joke, Yun(with Erykah Badu), Still Life (with Anderson Paak) . RM is my “bias” or favorite!

This is why he's dancing on the streets in the MV, just like he did as a kid. The mutual respect is everything. I'm a 47 year old R&B and Hip Hop head. These boys are the truth. I agree with other people, you should listen to BTS' Born Singer which covers J.Cole's Born Sinner. J-hope also shouted him out on their track Hip Hop Lover which is about their influences/passion.
As for BTS and where they started... it started with the leader RM who was an underground rapper in Korea and had already made a name for himself as a teenager. He got signed to a label after they heard his mixtape, and they decided to audition other rappers to make a group with him. That brought in Suga, also from the underground, and j-hope who was a well-known street dancer. They had a group with some other rappers for a year or so but decided to change direction and become a 'kpop boyband' because they realised if they were ever going to have a chance of getting their voices heard worldwide that was the only way. The other rappers didn't want to be in a pop group and left.
So then they auditioned singers and dancers, bringing in the 4 singers: Jungkook, Jin, V and Jimin. They carried on writing their own music about topics they cared about, but shifted the presentation more toward a pop group with dance routines. At first that was hard and they got a lot of criticism for 'selling out'. They wrote a lot about the conflicted identity of being real artists but knowing people don't take them seriously because of preconceived images (prejudices about kpop, boybands, 'screaming teenage girls' being their fans etc). But after a while they embraced it and realised this was actually a great medium to reach people, and they found fans were really connecting with their lyrics so it didn't matter if other people looked down on them. RM has a song called 'Awakening' which talks about this.
At the beginning their company really had no money... the guys all shared one bedroom, couldn't afford good clothes etc. It was hard to get on tv or get interviews etc. but their performances were so good they started gathering fans. Over the course of 10 years the fans basically just worked our asses off to bring these guys up and get them worldwide recognition, and I still can't believe it actually worked! We are hands-down one of the most passionate fanbases on the planet, and that's because these guys are the real deal, they have the talent, they have a message, they have good personalities, and they work incredibly hard.
It was a slow climb to get them from tiny venues and being completely unknown in the USA... to then starting to get popular but having US radio completely refuse to play them and US journalists be openly racist to them and treating them like some dumb teenybopper boyband who would disappear in a few months... to now being some of the most popular artists in the world, collaborating with legends. We just supported them relentlessly and kept sharing their music with new people, because once you listen to the music you realise there's something really special there.

I see that other Army's has given really great advice on what rap line songs to listen to solos and group wise. If you want to look into the rest of the group, I would recommend Born singer, Mic drop (it is where most people start to listen to BTS) and Ma City. Just for the vocal line, I recommend House of Cards both the studio and the live version, The Truth Untold, the same as the first song, and then Zero o’clock. As for their individual songs, Jin - Epiphany, Jimin - Lie, V - Singularity and Jungkook Stay alive. Also, just for fun, Jamais Vu with J-Hope, Jin and Jungkook because it is a beautiful song. And for their solo projects, just search for their names and the most popular songs will appear. Love this group and I found them just this March, so you are not the only one that was late to BTS. But as it is said about them, it is this: BTS finds you when you need them the most.

I only got into BTS a little over a year ago after sleeping on them for years, because I always thought they wouldn't be for me, and they completely blew me away. They're by far the most talented/versatile group I've ever seen. They do it all, make their own music, cover all genres both as a group and as soloists, and they have some of the most powerful lyrics ever. They discuss issues like societal expectations from youth, mental health and self love. They've also based albums off of psychological books. You'll find many celebrities talking about the importance of their message like John Cena, Coldplay, and Halsey. They also have many songs with old school sounds that's why they have the biggest fan base in the world, most of which are between the ages of 20-70 with very diverse music tastes. Unlike your average boy band, they're a music group of all 7 superstars with very different styles and skills.
As a hip-hophead myself who grew up listening to all the ogs, their rap-line are definitely some of the most skilled lyrical rappers out there. One of them actually reminds me so much of a younger Eminem in terms of raw authentic lyrics, life story, flows, and delivery. If you decide to check them out with an open-mind you'll be in for an incredible ride of quality music and very humble and charming guys. I recommend checking out their "Cyphers pt. 1-4" for starters.

Your daughter is in very good hands with BTS. They are artists with depth both as a group & as individuals. They have a focus on self love & being a shield for youth. There are 7 members. 3 rappers & 3 vocalists. One of my favourite live performances by the rapline is Outro Tear. The Wembley performance with eng subs embedded. At face value it’s a raw performance about a break up. Heartbreaking. If you react to it we can give you the background context.

BTS is a group that happens once in history, they are 7 artists with very different styles in one group.
They are all excellent, they all have their identity.
They all went to military service, but first each one made their solo album.
Currently I recommend starting with their solo songs to get to know each member, then "A guide to BTS members: bantang 7" and then their group songs.
BTS has a lot, but a lot of content, they have been around for more than 10 years, their concerts are incredible experiences.
What characterizes them as a group is that their music is about mental health, human development and the different chapters of life.
BTS has fans of all ages, especially adults, their very different styles would never make you think that they are from the same group, even their versatility as a group would never make you think that they are the same group in each song 🤣
I recommend starting with the rap line.
    (jHope, RM and Agust D)
    💜JHope: More, Arson.
(His performance at Lollapalooza was 🔥)
💜Agust D (Suga in BTS): I recommend his trilogy based on his personal experience and mental health.
    "Daechwita", "Haegeum" and "Amygdala".
💜RM (the leader of BTS): "Groin", "Nuts" and "lost". I recommend his tiny desk too or "Neva play" with Megan Thee Stallion.
The Vocal Line: Jungkook, Jimin, V and Jin.
💜Jungkook (the youngest): "Standing next to You", "seven feat Latto", "3D feat Jack Harlow".
I 100% recommend his show in Times Square.
💜Jimin: "Who", "Like crazy", "set me free". He is my bias🥰. I recommend his performances with Jimmy Fallon.
💜V: "Love me again", "Slow dancing" and "Fri(end)s".
I recommend his Tiny Desk, his voice is relaxing.
💜Jin (the oldest): "The astronaut" with this song said goodbye to us before military service. I recommend his presentation with Coldplay in Argentina.
He just returned in June, we will have more music soon but I also recommend "Epiphany" and "Moon".

@@ToneDeafMusiq I'm not sure it's fair to say they received their rap education from western artists in person. RM and Suga definitely are/were students of hiphop as pre-teen/teens and jhope learned to rap with them - then when the vocalists came on board the rappers would do an after hours 'hiphop class' starting 2011 with RM really stressing the point and giving them usb's filled with music to listen to, but that was long before they met the greats. This music video is a gift to ARMY (BTS fanbase) but also a gift and a tribute to j-hope's muse, J Cole. He gave the bulk of the bars to Cole while he danced. j-hope is going back to his roots in this one, hip hop/street dancing in the underground while Cole raps. In the end, he climbs up to the rooftops with Cole, which is where they both are now, at the top. J Cole named dropped BTS in his latest song, equating BTS with The Best/The Top in his lyrics.
BTS has had collabs with big artists since waaaay back. RM collabed with Warren G and Wale back in 2015. You are missing a whole world of amazing music. They are the biggest group in the history of the world for very good reasons including their musicality, genius lyricism, deep messaging and storytelling, humble and kind personalities, incredible dance and performance skills, crazy musical versatility and much more. While I agree with all comments n recommendations below….as a West Indian ‘Army Mom’. 57 yrs old. Discovered BTS in 2016. The saying….’BTS Come into Your Life When Needed the Most’ is true for me and perhaps millions of others. Dem boys helped and gave me the strength to kick my abusive partner to the curb and keep it moving. That being said….my main recommendation would be to watch Taylor Marie’s ‘Guide to BTS’ as it shows each member and their single journey to get to where they are currently. Yea……..their Music….wouldn’t know where to start except ai guess at the beginning from 2013 when they debuted. But unless getting to know each member? Is just a group of highly talented boys ( now men) and the most successful group in the world.
Taylor’s guide is now considered the Bible of BTS. In terms of seeing their journey from ground zero. BigHit and dem boys have seen and co-signed on it yrs ago. Either way….welcome to the largest family in the world. We not just fans. We family…..Borahae 💜💜💜

As far as musical taste goes, you should rest easy knowing your daughter is a fan of these 7 guys. They make solid music, have a love for the culture that has grown and evolved as they've aged, and there's no disrespect for women in their music that you need to worry about. They are an excellent example of healthy masculinity where they show genuine appreciation and love for each other in this found family they've built within their group. They never hesitate to show gratitude for the work that each person contributes or the work that their fans put in to support them. If I had kids, I'd be happy to know that they have such a positive group of people they enjoy consuming music and content from. The more you learn about them, the more you may find ways to connect to your daughter.
J-Hope's first mixtape is called 'Hope World' as a shout out to his musical muse J. Cole's 'Cole World'. He's name dropped him several times as someone he grew up listening to and getting inspiration for so we all know how much this collab meant for him to almost come full circle in his journey as an artist. Personally I found Cole almost decade before I found BTS so this collab was big for me too. Born Sinner was a beautiful song and even them name dropping him in their early song Hip Hop Phile (aka Hip Hip Lover) was always cool to see.
The rapline has 3 members. You know J-Hope now, but there's also RM (the leader of BTS) and Suga (he goes by Agust D in his solo projects). For RM, I think you might enjoy 'Wildflower'. Also maybe 'Yun' ft Erykah Badu but there's no music video for it but there is a live version with good English subtitles from the channel EnjoyBTSMore: th-cam.com/video/TAdCxbLPEsQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2Hw4jfdeIZ53D2-G
That channel is great for subtitles as they use the ones from the site Doolset Bangtan, a trusted ARMY who does our translations. doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/
For Agust D, I think you might like 'Daechwita' and 'Haegeum'. The translations in the music videos won't tell you what those two words mean, so I'll leave it here. 'Daechwita' is a style of traditional Korean music. The music was usually played to signal that an important person like the king was arriving or to gather the army (important to know that BTS's fandom is called ARMY). In the video, he plays a king so you get the idea. He produced the song and added that tradition sound in it. 'Haegeum' means liberation, to unlock something you didn't have access to previously, or freedom from something that was forbidden. You can keep that in mind for the songs since they just say the name of the songs in the music, but they don't tell you a translation.

This song just makes me feel good and comforted and like everything will be okay. I remember when this came out, it was sort of JHope's goodbye to the fandom cuz he was gonna be leaving for the military in South Korea. I read LOTS of J. Cole fans' comments saying that they thought it might be J. Cole's goodbye to them too. And, yes...the mv does represent JHope's journey from bottom to the top. You'll love BTS...go ahead and jump in. There are 7 members, and every. single. one is an exemplary person and extremely talented. Just turn on your subtitles and sit back and enjoy - it's a total package: production, composing, lyricism, swag, visuals, vocals, rapping, dancing. All 7 write, compose, produce, dance, sing/rap (every member doesn't do all of it for every song, but they each have done all of it). Be ready - they have an extensive discography cuz they've been around since 2013.

thank you for this reaction! it's good to see somebody recognizing the care and respect that was put into this.
Re this video: j-hope is a dancer before anything else. when he joined the group, he learned to rap through dance, by dancing to different flows-and by dancing to J.Cole specifically. there are call outs to Cole going back for j-hope’s entire hip hop career. not only was this video and song a gift to fans before his mandatory military enlistment, but he said he wanted it to be a return back to his roots. knowing this, it's even more powerful to see their duet during Cole's verse-with Cole rapping and j-hope dancing, just like it was in the beginning of his journey.
Recs: j-hope's solo album "Jack In The Box" is very old school, boom-bap, an exploration of his identity. there are two MVs for this album, "Arson" and "MORE." I would recommend either of these videos, but also REALLY suggest watching one of his live performances from this album. "Arson" at the 2022 MAMAs is magnetic, or check one of the clips from his performance at Lollapalooza, like "Hangsang" or "MORE".
there are seven individual members of BTS with very eclectic styles between them. if you want to get to know the members as a group, I would choose "ON", "FAKE LOVE", or "IDOL" which all have lavish music videos and excellent performances from all members. for a little more of their personalities, try some of their television performances, like "HOME" on Fallon.

The saying often goes that BTS finds you when you need them most. Thank you for giving them a try and I hope you continue to discover more of them! Like many others have suggested, they did a cover of Born Sinner, called Born Singer, I think that, and Hip-Hop Lover, would be a great place for you to start! Enjoy the journey!

Taylor Mary's Bangtan 7 guide is good to know a little about the history and beginnings of the boys. And I would recommend starting with UHG! from the rap line. The truth untold from the vocal line and blood sweet and tears from the 7

@@ToneDeafMusiqwhen you inevitably need to look up the lyrics, your best bet for the Korean lyrics is a website called Doolset Bangtan. The Japanese songs are not on there but the Korean ones are, and she always includes helpful context for the lyrics. Doolset > Genius 💜

Rap line UGH (boxing ring) is really good. Also Outro Tear (live) at Wembley. J Hope met his "muse" J Cole when both of them performed separate nights at 2022 Lollapalooza. You should react to that. His Jack in the Box album, MORE and ARSON are also mv's you might like. J Hope back from the military two weeks from tomorrow. BTS is seven members. All of extremely talented and diverse. I have been a fan for over three years. They have gone through a lot of hate and prejudice over the many years they have been performing.

There are 3 in the rap line and 4 vocalists. They all dance (and sing!). They are all about positive messaging. Most of their songs are a mix of rap and singing. One of my favorites is Mic Drop. The message is for those who put them down and all the haters who said they would never make it and they weren't talented. The lyrics are really good.

Thank you for your great reaction. This is absolutely one of my favorite J-Hope songs/collaborations. Thanks to BTS I can actually appreciate and understand Rap as I never did before and I really like J. Cole. I'm a 70 year old fan who was brought to BTS through my daughter and as others commented your daughter could not have a better group of musicians and humble humans to follow. You mentioned Megan thee Stallion at the end and I don't know if you've already been informed but she has also collaborated with BTS and they are good friends and supportive of each other as well. All the members have solo projects that are great and BTS have a huge discography of many different genres. Always try and watch with subtitles because their lyrics are amazing. Hope you enjoy the journey, look forward to more reactions from you.

BTS started as a hip hop group. They know and studied the culture. As someone mentioned, their adaptation of J Cole’s ‘Born Sinner’, called ‘Born Singer’ tells their love and beginnings in the culture. Their song ‘Hip Hop Lover’ is a deeper dive into the artists that inspired them. Please keep going. Glad your daughter is a fan of such positive music. 💜

If you cherised lyrics in Hip Hop, welcome to the rapline of BTS : RM, Suga (AgustD) and JHope.....the way they put their words is like poetry, substance and best storytellers. Also many songs of BTS are filled with poetry. You got more then 400 songs, as BTS or as their solo projects, so enjoY, it took me a year to listen and see all of their work, amazing still getting so much more new songs even when they are enlisted right now. The way they connected the universe, so special. You will found out of some really unique voices, great rapping and dancing. The diversity of their songs covering all genres in music keeps it so interesting. And their honesty as an artist allways strikes me to most, love their passion.

Oh! Those worlds didn't collide, but joined!! 😍
Oh 2! You named Megan Thee Stallion, she made a collab with RM, the leader of BTS, recently.
All seven BTS members are exceptional artists, with different tastes. I would like to say two things about them: They are perfect alone, and perfection itself when together!, and see them performing is like watching seven MJ.
Ah! I forgot to say that this song was made as a farewell before enlisting in the Korean Army. The boy represents us, the fandom. He gave us the gift of a collab with his idol, JCole. He named his first album after him (Hope World), and as you can realize, he gave Cole the protagonism, while he was dancing, like he used to do when he was young, as a street dancer.

Megan thee Stallion and RM (leader of BTS) collab dropped 3 weeks ago, "Neva Play". That was the 2nd oollab she had with BTS.
As a parent myself, I want you to know BTS uplifts, encouages and makes us fans better people, your daughter is in good hands.
If you can, watch their live performances, they actually sound better live than the studio versions and their connection with the audience is amazing. Since many of the lyrics are Korean, you may need to read the lyrics first before the perfomance if CCs arent available.
Just a few of my favorite songs of BTS on hard days:
    Magic Shop
    Not Today
    Mikrokosmos
    Snooze
    Idol
    Epiphany
    Dope
    Fire
Thank you and have a blessed day.

Others have said this...but as for the roots of BTS - it started with RM who was an underground rapper in Seoul as a teen (~13 yo) (he actually started writing poetry as a kid). The project was built around him - and was suppose to be a hiphop crew. The project eventually changed into the dance performance hiphop "idol" (k-pop) group that we know it to be today. The 3 rappers were the 1st members of the group. Suga/Agust D - is the 2nd rapper - who was also a part of an underground crew in his hometown of Daegu - who has been producing/creating beats and rapping since the age of ~13. J-Hope learned to rap as a trainee with RM and Suga but before that he was a street dancer with a crew (Neuron) in his hometown and even won national competitions. Tbey started releasing tracks pre-debut on YT and Soundcloud (2010-2013) and officially debuted as BTS in 2013 with the songs No More Dream & We Are Bulletproof Pt2. Taylor Mari's video: A Guide to BTS - The Bangtan 7 is a really really really great place to start.

BTS started out as a Hip Hop/Rap group. Check out Born Singer (JCole cover of Born Sinner), Hip Hop Phile (Rapline shouts out all the Artists that influenced/inspired them growing up. When they first were starting out they were sent to the US and worked with Warren G & Coolio in a show called American Hustle Life were the learned about the roots of Hip Hop. What they learned during that show they still utilize today.
RM the leader of BTS said Rap is stories and poetry set to music. He has an IQ of 148 and loves to read, explore art and the outdoors all which helps inspires him.
BTS are true Artists. They absolutely love music (all kinds) and to entertain/perform for their fans and anyone who loves music.
    Enjoy your journey. 💜
