True story, years ago I bought one of these without reading the instructions and I simply plugged it in and started using it without knowing to connect the battery. So essentially, I was using this for a few years without getting the full intended function. I found out what I did years later when I bought another one and did it correctly. I cringe and laugh at myself at the same time when I think about it.
I bought one LONG ago not knowing it was an actual "battery". I thought it was just a bad-ass surge protector. Till the power went out one day and I was able to keep working! I was like, "Ohhh, this is cool!!". Thankfully the battery in mine must have been plugged in from the factory or I would have done the same as you.
UPDATE: It keep beeping and I went to Costco and got a larger unit of a different brand. So far so good... ORIGINAL POST: Great review, thank you! I hooked up to an OLED TV and I get some random beeping maybe once of twice a day (suspect mains voltage is dipping). The beeping was annoying - now I can silence it! Ha ha ha
So I have had this unit for 4 months and it would shit off sometimes and ring I was like what's going on. I never connected that red wire wow. I wonder how my stuff was even running lol. My friend you are a hero.
This unit did a fantastic job as a temporary power source the whole time my power was out for a few days. Loved how you can cold start it. I also have a XS 1300, and I was able to keep my internet going. And i was able to do the cold start, and turn it on only when I needed it.
Thanks for posting it, I am going to use this for my modem that way my internet doesn’t go down and my security for my house will stay up. Than you so much I had no idea how this worked
Fabulous presentation, sir! I am glad I stopped by. I had already plugged the USB cable in, but I wasn't sure if there was something else I needed to do to get working... Or what all it did, exactly. Now I know I can use it to shut the computer down if there is a power outage while I'm sleeping! That's great because I live in Fairfield, Mt, now, and we have the most power disruptions of any place I've ever lived. And I like to sleep with jungle sounds, ocean reefs, nature scenes, and sounds. Now I can relax and the unit will shut itself off if something happens. I was going to invest in the bigger ones, but I think I'll just add one or two more of the smaller ones (600VA) to split the load of the monitor, computer and wifi, etc. Then I'll have 45-55 minutes before they poop out, right? I don't know a lot about electronics, so I'll just ask you...? If I add more units should I plug them in separately or one into the other?
it means that you may not have the best wiring in your home or wherever you live, so that means that something is wrong with the wiring or the ground wires or whatever just look at www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA158817/ im not good at explaining
5 minuets or use the usb so the computer can shut itself off. i assume the the computer would be plugged to the surge side and the usb used for emergency low power mode and shutoff.
I have a question. When I turn on the unit, why does the green light blink for about 5 seconds, then shuts off and the continuous beep sound? During the on time, my lamp lights in the battery & surge outlet, but when it shuts down after the 5 seconds, it cuts off.
Great review....thanks so much....question why would you use the usb connection to your pc/computer vs just plugging the computer into the apc unit ? Also my unit is beeping every 15 mins ? Any idea why......thanks again !!!
The computer should see the UPS as a battery, making your desktop act like a laptop and shut itself down if there is a power failure and the ups runs low. If it's still beeping after a couple days call APC, could be a bad battery.
That's an interesting question, these don't have a full battery indicator as they're designed to be constantly on charge until needed. I do believe it to be a trickle charge so it's certainly not a fast fill.
Should it had identification electronically prevent replaced by theft with explosion . .it is danger if it is not anchor and or identification by network can be lethal if replaced unknowingly. Also the surgesupression circuit if insulated by CCD on positive prong could reduce energy consumption to nearly nothing
Hello! I have a problem with my back ups 600 is making a beep when I try to turn on and Idk why? Can u help me plz. It was yesterday, I have this since one year, and everything ok. But now idk.
This is a really awesome review! I have an apc back ups 600va battery backup the same as him but when I connect it to my pc and run anything, the batter starts to make a constant beep with no end until I unplug my pc. does anyone know how to fix this?
I just got this unit and i have the same problem once i boot up a game on pc. funny thing is if i minimize teh game it stops, maximize the game it starts to beep. i checked the load on backup battery and its going over 330 watts. I don't understand what's going on with this unit.

I got mine for $36.01 that’s including tax on amazon fresh yesterday night. Now my question is wen I connected the battery then I connected to outlet the side light by the usb connected is red and on is that suppose to happen?
So, I just got this item for backup while I record VO in a small whisper room. I have mine in a studio currently that when I am done recording, I shut off all the power to the studio. Power is off. Will the battery lose any of its charge while off and not plugged into a power source?
Not sure if you're checking these. Replying one more time in case. Also, I tried doing the alarm change and it didn't show me an Amber Setting. And when I unplugged it, I go no sound at all, even though it was on green setting. The battery power was low, and I wonder if that is why?
I am currently trying to do this, but it is beeping none stop, which i have to plug out or power off for it to stop....Is something wrong with it ? Like i thought it needs charging, so i left it plugged in all day but same issue.....Help please.....😣😣😣
Does the 425A/225W version have software to shutdown PC or other devices? If so does the pc have to connected to it all the time to shutdown other devices or is it ok after setting it up once.
Can i switch this unit off every time i leave the house (once a day)? Its only for my laptop and other consumer electronics that are switched off when i'm not around.
I just bought a UPS APC BE425M -LM. How long do you have to charge it for for the first time? 24 hours with the green light on? Another question: after the initial charge of 24 hours do I unplug the yellow connector? Afterwards the 8 hours of charging I have to unplug the yellow connector? Thanks
Not sure what yellow connector you are referring to. There is a yellow sticker on top reminding you to connect the internal battery before use, you can just tear that off and throw it away once you have the internal battery connected. The UPS should be ready to go with no further effort once you connect the battery, plug it into household power, and turn it on. Usually takes 8-24 hours for the internal battery to charge to 100%, but afterwards, the unit self-manages the battery.
It may confuse or overload the internal charge controller if you ever need to recharge them from a low level such as after a power outage... hard to say with confidence though
@@mjm7071 Connecting batteries in parallel increases capacity, but decreases resistance across the circuit. Sounds like your fridge is requiring more power than the UPS can supply when the compressor first starts up. When running refrigerators blowers and other types of motors use less power than they do when they first start. it's likely your UPS will keep your refrigerator running if it's already going when the power drops but not be able to start it up from scratch.
Should work just fine, how long it will last depends on how much of a load your computer is pulling at the time, the age of the internal battery, and how many times battery has been discharged / recharged. I believe there is a calculator on APC's website for that. keep in mind though using included USB cable you can set up the unit to have your computer shut down when the battery in the backup becomes low.
Not sure what you mean. The device will automatically switch to battery power anytime the input voltage drops below a safe threshold. As soon as the input voltage is restored it will return to normal power. (unless the outage was prolonged and the onboard battery dies 100%, then you need to press the power button to turn it back on)
