Stock voltage range for AVR is 88-144 volts. In the video the voltage range is different because you can adjust the range as low as 78 volts or as high as 150 volts.
I have this same on a cyberpower CP1000PFCLCD I bought, and I'm puzzled by this because the voltage here usually is "suppose" to be 127-128V for the single phase mains, but it will usually hover in the 131-135V range and some times also push up in the 139V... When it triggers above the 136V limit I set it will trigger the battery and run out of power even though the mains power remains at 137-139V for hours.. In the Power Panel software (CyberPower) it will show the events as how many times the battery has been triggered, but for the AVR it shows as never triggered.. So my experience is that when the input is 127-136V it will just output the same 127-136V, and then when triggering the battery it goes to 120V output. But that makes no sense - what is the functionality of the AVR if it never triggers in the range and just outputs the same voltage as the mains until the limit is triggered and then switches to battery ?
@@shyb3rt I think once the voltage exceeds the range the AVR kicks on from the battery. It rarely ever happens to me, but then again i'm not paying attention most of the time
@@SystematicHardware Thank you for the reply. Yes I don't understand this. for me, on the CyberPower, when it exceeds the range the battery will kick in and supply 120V for as long as it can last - but the AVR doesn't seem to do anything. I would think the AVR would act within the e.g. 88-136V range to regulate it to 120V, but that's not the case in my experience at least. Given I didn't have brownouts in the last week, so didn't see how it will respond with low voltage, but it did nothing to regulate down the high voltage before it passed the 136V (or whichever voltage you set), but then on battery. Most electrical equipment is rated e.g. 120V +-5% or 10%. With 137V you're passing 14% and even worse for low voltage of 88V you are down to 73% of nominal mains power.. Doesn't sound good for any electrical equipment.
@@shyb3rt I used a digital voltmeter and noticed once that the AVR symbol was on in the front LED display. Hi Thank you for video, my wife bought this APC as a backup for wifi , tv, router cable box dish hopper Google nest pro . Now we live way out and the grid goes down when temps go below freezing. We had a zoom meeting for court and because I didn’t set it up yet we had to run to a Hampton Inn and use business suite. Anyway, I charged the unit it was at full capacity. I didn’t plug anything into it. Turned power off (green light) days maybe a week later when I turned it on the battery was at 0. What do I need to know we can’t find the manual. Thanks in advance
It would seem to me that the unit is defective if you turned off the unit and the battery was depleted after only one week. See if you can repeat the scenario. If so return/replace it. If it's beyond the window contact APC technical support they'll help you out.
What is the standby/idle power draw of this UPS (assuming the battery is full and not being charged)? For example, if I have exactly 100 watts of load plugged into this UPS, how much power is this UPS getting from the wall outlet? This info isn't listed in APC's spec sheet.
I'm looking to buy a UPS and have two in mind, but tbh I'm not sure what one is better as they are both VERY close in specs. First one is the APC - BR1500MS2, and the other is the APC - BGM1500. They are so close in specs that I'm near deciding on visuals which I like the slick look of the BGM1500. What do you think I should choose? This will be my primary PS5/TV protector.
I personally would go with which ever one is the better price. You could also go with aesthetics because i doubt there's much difference between two aside from the outer case.
Today I got my APC UPS and an nvidia 3060 gpu and I haven't even opened the graphics card yet. How could a power pack be so exciting? I'm so going to be regulating voltages and monitoring my power consumption and all that other stuff you talked about. Almost wish it had RGB.

For APC because its proprietary software. FYI whenever I tested the auto power down, it was always hibernate. What's weird is that there was no option to change to shutdown. I might have to make a separate video on that.
It worked on synology NAS last I tested and windows (for this APC product). Didnt think there was an easy way to make it work through linux, but I didn't really test it too much.
UPS Units aren't designed for extended run time. If I were you, I would get a power station instead. They run Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries which are designed for thousands of cycles. To put into perspective, If you were to use the new EcoFlow RIVER 2 Portable Power Station, you could run an appliance at 250w for one hour.
Assuming you have it set to preserve battery shutdown after 5 minutes and your server bios AC state is set to 'Always On' or 'Last State' (dunno if relevant but just to be conscise). Also assuming you have the network cable of your server pass through the APC. Power came back (I have an independent way of knowing when power grid goes down and comes back up again) and I wanted to Wake On Lan Server 1 hour later which worked before installing the APC, but now it doesn't anymore and the office is 45 mins away....😑 What do I need to change to get Wake on Lan to work again?
@@1a1o Nope it does not, network cable of server cannot pass through the APC if I want it to work, either on bios always on or last state, but it does work perfectly if the network cable goes directly into server, without any other changes.
UPS units aren't made for prolonged power outages. Their batteries are made from lead acid and should not be drained more than 50% in favor of battery life. The intended purpose of a UPS unit is for sporadic/split second power loss or to allow the appliances connected to it just enough time to gracefully shut down, in the event of a power outage. For prolonged outages you are going to want to use a Lithium Iron Phosphate Power Station.
I’ll work on getting another Ethernet cable. But for now I only have my pc and monitor plugged into my ups. Is my Pc and monitor safe even though I don’t have the coax and Ethernet hooked up?
This UPS can support more than one PC, so as long as the total power draw doesn't exceed 900 watts. Your PC and Monitor will be safe as long as the source for your network connectivity has surge protection. For example, in my latest video I installed a small coax surge protector before the modem (Not on camera). Everything behind it including ethernet as a result is protected, so using the ethernet ports on the UPS is not necessary.
@@Col3wrld I called my Internet Service Provider and they stated I didn't need to surge protect the coax so it might be worth a call to your ISP to find out more - you might not need it
If you have two graphics cards each pulling 400 watts (plus processors, etc) then you have issues unless you set power limits. Depends on your graphics cards ... they won't always pull this but say if you have 2 3090s and when they do it will exceed. We had a lightning strike on the ethernet cable coming into the house that fried a port on the router (from inducing a little voltage into the line) though it didn't make it to the switch or computers. Maybe it would have been fine if that wire had gone through the UPS
Have you had any problems with it so far i see reviews of them catching fire. i was also looking at the BGM1500B any help would be appreciated thank you
Is it possible? Yes it is, but i've never experienced that. My power goes out often with many random disrupts. I have three APC ups units, two Cyberpower units and I even use one for my refrigerator and freezer chest. None of them caught fire knock on wood yet. Keep in mind they should have a protection policy to insure from damages.
dont plug the usb in from the front of unit to computer, charge your computer with the charger that came with it, you cant hook up power to power or you fry the weaker one... so dont plug in pc to usb... the apc unit has two ports in front to charge your phone or drone or watch or little power pack for backpack if your phone runs out... plug your pc charger into the appropriate plug in at back of apc ups unit.

Luckily I got it from Costco so I can just return it or replace it (but hopefully the model doesn't suffer from this issue and I just end up with it again).
Previously using the same equipment I had the APC 1000 model and it never died on me until the battery died maybe after 6 or 7 years of use!
So my question is, if you've bene using this for a while now do you have the same issue where it just dies for no reason?
I have two of them and they work fine
I didnt see it in the software, but is it possible to turn on and off ports on the back through the software?
I’m getting one of these for my gaming PC and I’m wondering if I should set it’s sensitivity on high medium or low
It depends on how reliable your grid is, but generally leaving it on stock medium is fine
Ok it’s pretty good so I’ll leave it on medium
One more question when should I replace the battery
@@Magdadood787 Estimated battery life time is around 6 years, but that depends on how reliable your grid is and how often the UPS is used.
Check out the BGM1500B - It comes in black and white
i bought a Lorex 3Tig six cam system, can this go on batt backup?
also... THIS THING REEKS OF ACETONE OR CHEMICAL... giving me an headache,
does yours smell, i just bought mine June of 2023 and second day it is just smelling like curing fiberglass or a weird chemical smell, nothing electrical or fire, just closest thing i can say is acetone or curing paint or something automotive, i checked all my car products if spilled over and froze running the fan all night up here in canada.
went on google, this stink has been an issue since 2015, and schneider who makes apc ups says all they can do is exchange it....
man, hoping this wears off, did yours stink at all?
my room is ten by ten and i have sore throat and headache already...
is this made in china with inferior plastic or WHAT?
A+ job..
Thank you!
Good video!
Thanks!
Do you need to Register with Snyder to get access to the network or can I do that through PowerChute? Like a typical engineer I though I could get access via ip address but I cant. Now I have go find where I threw the install CD for PowerChute.
This UPS Unit BR1500MS2 does not have a network management card. The connection isn't networked based. Think of it more like a console cable like how you configure a managed switch.
@@SystematicHardware It is networked. I can ping it through my router but it does not open up a browser page nor does it respond to snmp. I think I will have to install powerchute and see if I can connect that way. I was hoping you had done it. But not really sure mine is a SM2. Its a 2RU chassis
I’m trying disconnect the battery and don’t want to accidentally break anything but how do you remove the red cable? It feels like it’s stuck
They should come off by gravity
mine was absolutely horribly hard to slide on, there is a terrific spring clip on it, good luck...

can we use that software for all UPS products? so I can enable auto shutdown when got a power cut
Your shirt is obsolete now :D
I was going to buy one for back up power for my gecko heat Mats are 16 watts a peace can u use it for that lol?
UPS Units aren't designed for extended run time. If I were you, I would get a power station instead. They run Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries which are designed for thousands of cycles. To put into perspective, If you were to use the new EcoFlow RIVER 2 Portable Power Station, you could run an appliance at 250w for one hour.
Assuming you have it set to preserve battery shutdown after 5 minutes and your server bios AC state is set to 'Always On' or 'Last State' (dunno if relevant but just to be conscise).
Also assuming you have the network cable of your server pass through the APC.
Power came back (I have an independent way of knowing when power grid goes down and comes back up again) and I wanted to Wake On Lan Server 1 hour later which worked before installing the APC, but now it doesn't anymore and the office is 45 mins away....😑
What do I need to change to get Wake on Lan to work again?
So by default it doesn’t automatically turn back on if battery drains and power comes back on?
@@1a1o Nope it does not, network cable of server cannot pass through the APC if I want it to work, either on bios always on or last state, but it does work perfectly if the network cable goes directly into server, without any other changes.
Can I use this without buying a two way splitter? Expecting power outage for 8 hrs today in 92660. Thanks.
Can one ups support two gaming pc’s?
@@Col3wrld I called my Internet Service Provider and they stated I didn't need to surge protect the coax so it might be worth a call to your ISP to find out more - you might not need it
you need a 2500va
Where am I supposed to plug the usb in on my pc, does any usb port work? They’re different colors.
Any usb port is fine
dont plug the usb in from the front of unit to computer, charge your computer with the charger that came with it, you cant hook up power to power or you fry the weaker one... so dont plug in pc to usb... the apc unit has two ports in front to charge your phone or drone or watch or little power pack for backpack if your phone runs out... plug your pc charger into the appropriate plug in at back of apc ups unit.
Is it noisy when running on battery power only?
Even on battery, the APC units are very quiet. It all depends on how much load is going through the unit.

I have the same model and I tried to plug the terminal to the battery and a loud and bright spark occurred. I was in shock. Is this normal??
Yeah it happened to me once also and it can happen
@@SystematicHardware
It was pretty loud. But ok thanks.
is it pure sine wave ?
yup
gotta have one of these if u have a dope build. no beard?!!?!
Nope!
Can you dim or turn the display off?
The display turns off automatically. The green power light stays illuminated.
😀👍
Great summary
Thanks!
Big jump there Buddy, from unit to software? Thought this was setup video.
how are you clicking on screen? bluetooth or LAN or whats the process?

500 watts? I have a 4090 and a 83" c1 and don't get 500 watts.
are you telling me i paid four hundred bucks and this unit only lasts for FIFTY minutes backup? i wanted to power my security system with this when power goes off...
lorex 3Tig six camera set up, no idea how many watts or amps it uses... sheesh.
tell us how to set up the software screen, you missed that step in set up.
hello, can these ups automatically shut down my nas drive and my desktop in the event of power failure and i am away? i am planning to get APC Smart-UPS 1000VA LCD,230V (SMC1000I)
The ups software has to be installed and the console cable plugged into the computer from the UPS, so only one windows device
@@SystematicHardware thanks for the speedy response, correct me if i am
wrong pls, ups are tecnicAlly bateries for desktops, is the windows power setting enough to do the auto force shutdown? (On batteries - perhaps on hibernate mode in x number of minutes)
Then the ups cable il attach to my nas
THERE NICE OK NICE VIDEO I HAVE BACK-UPS CS 350 I CHANGE BATTERY I HAVE 12 VOLT LEAD ACID BATTERY 20 AMP 3 12 VOLT 7.2 AMP LEAD ACID I HAVE POSITIVE TO POSITIVE TO POSITIVE TO POSITIVE THEN I HAVE 20 AMP FUSED ON MY POSITIVE OF MY BATTERY AND NEGATIVE TO NEGATIVE TO NAVETIVE TO NEGATIVE OF UPS I WAS RUNING BIG LOAD HAVE 3 LAPTOP PLUG IN DO 1 HOUR AND 1/2 ON BATTERY IF USED DEEP CYCLE BATTERY I WOULD RUN MUCH LONGER HOUR
