in 1979 having heard nothing but the pop music we were fed, I was walking to work, aged 17 when I heard Morning Dance on a tiny cassette player on the small electric cart the milk delivery guy used - it changed my life At 62 now I have verything they ever did and of course they led me to Grover Washington, Ronnie Laws, and little by little, to Miles Davis, Bill Evans The Brubecks, etc My 28 yr old son continues and enhances the journey - one chance moment and a lifetime of joy Thank God or whoever loves you

My uncle always had this on his Hi-Fi, until such a tender age of 9, my equally tender ears developed craving for such exquisite goodness.
I introduced the genre to my then gf, and now wife of 5 amazing years, and our relationship is built around music.
We explored a lot of jazz and Spyro Gyra tops it, hands down.
Now, am father to two amazing kids, they’re hearing these, and my son’s often stoic face lights up when Shaker Song turns up.
True music, true art, true love.

I was opening with my band for them on a concert in the 80-ies at "Grosse Freiheit" in Hamburg Germany. After my gig we all watched their gig - it was a pure pleasures to hear and see my youth heroes on stage. That put on a great show, also the lighting mixing guy did his best to put in the best light and he knew all the kicks. Afterwards we all went out to have a pizza together. Such a joy to hang out with such nice and friendly colleagues. Thank you Spyro Gyra for all the joy you brought to my life - thank you! Nils Gessinger

Hey Nils , i also love the music of Spyro Gyra. Have almost all albums of Them. I remember that I heard you and Your band in Hamburg . Mönckebergstr. as an opener for the Hyatt hotel (?) or was it the the the galleria?. Must have been in the late 80is or 90is. Great gig too. Opened my mind to contemporary jazz music. So Spyro Gyra, Russ Freeman and the Rippingtons and 4 Play are still my all-time favorites. Stay healthy with greetings from the Elbinsel

As a child growing up in the 70's, I was introduced to a wide range of music. The very first time I heard morning dance, I was twelve years old and wasn't knowledgeable of music theory at the time, but remember thinking, this song had the absolute best tone I had ever heard. I never knew the name of the song, but the local movie theater would play it before the movie to adjust the sound (pre thx assuming)
Flash forward to a week ago when the song came on TH-cam and I finally caught the title.
Thank you gentlemen for creating a masterpiece in sound unmatched still today and thank you for keeping this song alive. Very nice to come across this social distancing video, I actually teared up listening to this beautiful song medley when you started morning dance 🙏🙏🙏

I don't know who engineered this marvel of jazz fusion, (from remote locations) but you have upped your game once again. I know all three of these songs from decades ago - and now I love them even more! I have seen your amazing band in Chicago, San Diego, Minneapolis (multiple times), and now we miss you on tour: this trio of songs was almost as good as seeing you guys in person! What you've done especially with 'Catching the Sun' is nothing short of amazing. The togetherness from 3:00-4:00 is superb, the solo by Julio amazing, the perfect timing of Lionel is so enjoyable, the well--placed and versatile keyboard contributions of Tom so wonderful, and the bassist plucks by Scott, and the perfect horn melodies of Jay are what makes this collaboration one of the best of 2020! Thanks for putting this out -it has been a welcome respite to many of us who are missing live jazz!

I first heard about the band in 1978. Jr in high school. Recorded your shaker song off the radio. Saved Aluminum Cans, cleaned neighbors pool, mowed lawns to get the money to buy “Spyro Gyra!” Shaker, Mead, Opus, Mallet heck the whole Album…
Was an incredible to me. I couldn’t wait for your next Album. When it came, I was so looking forward to concert appearances on the west coast. Everyone remembers, their where abouts and the things going on in their life by the music being played at that particular time of their life. S.G. released music for me that marked time in my life. I even went to Catalina Island for a concert.

They were the way I discovered fusion, in 87. I remember I could not understand anything at first, but I didn't give up, and I cannot be more grateful to them I behaved this way, then discovering and having always loved other masters like uzeb, chick corea and his bands, rippington, yellow jackets, Mike stern, Dave grusin, John patitucci, Vinnie colaiuta and some other tons of music monsters like them I have not the space to write all them. But Spyro were the first and will always have a special place in my heart and my soul. Thank you guys for 40 years of unbeatable music and emotions!!

Absolutely agree 100% Daniele! Spyro Gyra was probably the most important, "gateway" band that I listened to when I was making the transition to loving Fusion and Jazz music. I bought the album, "Morning Dance" on a complete whim without knowing anything about Spyro Gyra or their music and I ended up listening to it non-stop until I bought, "Catching The Sun". There was something about the album cover art that I really liked too. It also took me a little bit of time and persistent listening, but once everything clicked there was no turning back. Been listening to these guys and digging their music since 1979!

We in Toronto, Canada were treated with an annual summertime visit by Spyro Gyra at ONTARIO PLACE FORUM, in the early days. An outdoor, grassy, concert bowl park on Lake Ontario. The players were awesome with great chops, and super entertaining! The percussionist would scissor-kick his symbols with his toe as he leaped in the air. The steel pan, and MARIMBA solos give Morning Dance such a cool, island-earthy vibe. I played it in high school Jazz Band, 1980. Thanks so much! 😀
