The quality of this (sound + video) recording confirms what I've been thinking for decades : technicians actually are artists doing their craft with machines.
For a such a band, it takes a huge talent to make the final piece sound and look soooooo damn perfect !
And Scott Ambush can have his fair share of admiration.
Will all due respect to the whole band... what a musician, in another class !
Jay Beckenstein is the PERFECT Smooth Jazz sax player - never overplays, always plays exactly what's needed and nothing more. Never self-indulgent. His ego never seems to enter his playing. Pure and smooth. Such a sensible and correct musician. Same with Tom Schuman. Plays exactly what's needed, and nothing more. Mature players.
always melodious. I love melodies
Perfeito
In 1982 Spyro Gyra was the guest band at the renowned Elmhurst Jazz Festival and as band soloists in the competition we had the chance to jam with them the morning before the competition. What an amazing experience as an 18 yr old trumpet player. We had the competition during the day and they performed the concert at night at the beautiful Scottish Rite Auditorium. Before their performance they announced the competition awards and fortunately I won the trumpet soloist award. What a life highlight that I will never forget. Thank you SG for so many years of amazing music!

getting better all the time,,, loved them then, love them now. Wow!
Is it the same lineup?
We all miss Dave Samuels, though!
Jay Beckenstein’s saxophone playing is immediately recognizable..
My father took me to see them as a kid, I wanna say in the late 70’s or early 80’s. At the time I wanted to go play football in the street outside. Over the years I never forgot that name Spyro Gyra. So when we started digging in my pops crates for samples I knew that name would have sample gems for days. I bought a bass and use to play along. I love the many moods the songs took you thru. In my head their songs reminded me of being outside in different times of the day. And at different places. My pops was a musician/ composer/ director, so I was exposed to many different types of music. I’m a WESTCOAST B-boy from the Chi. Seen a lot of the legends over the years. But till remember many of these songs at 52 yrs old.
They will never sound this clean since Mr. S. left. Still one of the best contemporary Jazz groups.
Would like to thank the Audio Engineer and the team on a such a beautiful recording.
It sounds like it is recorded in a studio.
Everything is so, so, so well balanced and it alsi speaks a lot about the preparation gone into band rehersals.
Smooth😊
You just took the words out my mouth or shall I say my fingers to type this. Very true, the audio is so clean. And the Spyro Gyro band is musically tight as always.
ditto!
completely agree!
the video recording as well. excellent
you're right, I'd cry just to hear the intro knowing this is live
AWESOME....can't get enough of SPYRO....THEY JUST GET BETTER WITH TIME ! SOOTHING TO THE SOUL & EARS.
When I was 16 I remember listening to Spyro Gyra in my bedroom and being inspired as I learned to play the sax. Fast forward 43 years later…I now play bass and sax. Still being inspired by these wonderful artists. Thanks Spyro Gyra!
Q maravilha eu amo
My favorit combination - bass & sax. But I play only bass.... yet 🙃
Almost 5 decades since they started out. I've been following them '77-78 when my brother came home with their first record. Seen them a handful of times over the years. Tom joined the band in' 77. They have consistently put out fresh compositions and had top quality musicians. They still have fun together. It's refreshing.
Score 10 i salute spyro gyra listen jazz music
My brother also introduced me to them and I am so grateful. Some of the greatest sounds....Love them!!
MAGNICENT GROUP!

Timeless, though I have aged to 66, their music hasn't.
I am similar. I discovered them when I was 21 or 22 and now I'm 67!
I have respect for the Audio Engineer, Thank You. You made us feel like we were there at the concert. Well done 👏🏼👏🏼. And Thank you Spyro Gyra for 48 years of good music 👍
Still sound good after all these years. Lost a bit of that sunny sound of theirs, but what can one do, we all got older. Wonderful, all the same.

JAZZ FUSION da melhor qualidade. Música Alimento pra Alma.
I got to watch these guys live last year in Rochester New York and I’m still smiling from the experience 😎 ! Big fan ! They’re all phenomenal in their own right..
Awesome jazz music, guys!thanks
My favourite jazz band since the seventies since the album Catshing the Sun
I was about 15 when I accidentally bought a used copy of Catching the Sun in 1982. I had never heard anything like it in my small town. That was my first exposure to jazz and it didn't click with my friends who worshipped Van Halen and ZZ Top. But I fell in love with jazz and have been a fan ever since, thanks to that accidental album purchase. They sound even better now than back then.
Van Halen, I have those ex-friends, too! No musical taste.
I miss Tom Schuman so much-wish he didnt retire.
Spyro are still in good sound, groove along with Rippingtons! Saw them once live in late 90s. Greetings from Jazzman KUL.
These guys have always been awesome, and they keep getting better with time!
Simply AWESOME STUFF!!!😎
I know this keyboard player from the studio jam sessions he’s in some of the best ones of that series , I think with dean brown
Totally awesome! Been listening and buying since the late 70's. They age like fine wine.
WOW,WOW, WOW! What else can be said about a live performance? I only regret not having been there. GREAT PERFORMANCE GUYS!!!
Desde anos 70 sempre ouvindo esses feras...Fantásticos...🤗👋👋👋👋👋
I saw them live at one of the first "Taste of Chicago" festivals, the crowd loved 'em! That was probably 1979.
🤩🤩🤩🤩I love it!! Sounds so unworried, relaxed, free!!
A time when it was forbidden to make bad music. Time to live love, sleepless nights for your loved one, dreaming about love. Magical time we live in.
Huge amazing concert!!!!!
I did a tour with them back in the 90s. Didn‘t even know they were still around. Love this video.
Amazing. Bass and drum solo awesome!

Simply freaking awesome. I had the honor to work in radio back in the late 80's early 90's for a smooth jazz format that had these guys on playlist. Old San Juan is one of their classics. I think that came out in 86-87. Loved their music ever since.
This is a Wonderful display of extremely talented musicians! They are all masters of their instruments. In addition they are extremely tight with all of their arrangements. This is a marvelous concert. Thank you for sharing this with us...
