- If you don't wanna hear me ramble on... 1:05 is the spot for the stock exhaust sound, 2:30 shows off the new Borla mufflers installed.
Changed out the stock mufflers and resonators for a pair of S-Type Borla mufflers, made a world of difference, and she purs great now. Figured the video would show it decently, and could help anyone who might be considering the same kind of upgrade.

Honestly she feels more responsive, but the performance boost is very neglegable. There's no drone, not excessively anyways. I can still have a good conversation in the cabin lol

Yo question, u just showed a pair of Borla muffs, and u said u put them in the middle, ok so what did u do about the muffs at the end? Or did u put the Borlas at the end, and replace resonators with just pipes? Sound is perfect yo, just need ta know exactly what u did.
So I had both mufflers and resonators removed, and I just went ahead and put the borlas in middle to replace those, and the resonators I just put straight pipe in.
Mustang lover/owner here, and I'm here to say that think looks good and sounds great, a bit quite for my taste, but still nice, enjoy the car man.

Nah not at all. When it does you do here a bit of change in tone, but certainly no drone.
The stock mufflers on the Challenger V8's are straight through, so any aftermarket mufflers you get can't flow or sound much louder than the stock mufflers. Back when I had my '14 RT Challenger I bought magnaflows and replaced my stock mufflers and cut the resonators off. The car sounded good, but I probably could have gotten the same sound with just cutting the resonators off. It amazes me how Dodge can get away with these stock straight through mufflers in this day and age. Pretty cool in my book!
I agree. Though these new RT'S are offset mufflers, not straight through. Both mufflers and the resonators were offset, and it caused a little trouble to put in the straight throughs I wanted, but managed to do it by putting them in a different place than the stock mufflers. I agree though, Dodge really builds these machines so damn well.
What I meant by straight through is that if you look through one end of the muffler, you can see straight through it. The stock mufflers are just a long tube. The mufflers look almost like an old glass pack muffler. There's no restriction of flow and sound with these mufflers. My 2014 RT mufflers were like this and so are the mufflers on my 2015 Scat Pack RT.
Is this the muffler you bought times 2? Borla 40842S S-Type Muffler? I have a 2015 Challenger RT Shaker 5.7 Hemi Automatic. I already had the resonators removed but doesn't give me the low growl that you have. I just want to make sure i get the right ones.

You are right, it does sound amazing with the Borla mufflers, I appreciate you sharing with us, I am considering an R/T, but was not so impressed with the stock mufflers.
Yeah I agree dude. Unfortunately Dodge can't do much else about it, government regulation a kinda big them down. But if you wanna grab the RT, the borla mufflers I totally worth it and very affordable.

Did you dyno it to see if you got anymore horsepower? Do you know if it would give more horsepower or only change the sound? I have a 2012 SRT8 that I put a 2.9L Whipple supercharger with before and after dyno numbers on my channel, but not sure if I want to change the exhaust...
ELLIOTT MORIARTY if it did give any more power is be surprised, but no I haven't tested it. It certainly feels a bit more punchy and responsive but I have a feeling that's in my head xD

Those borla s type are those the mid muffler or rear by the tips ? I removed my resognator and looking for something to replace the sound and these sound great I have a 15 Challenger rt 5.7l

Nice Challenger, i have a 15 rt and going with the borla type s, just dont know if i should keep resonators or not. How much drone do you get and in what speeds or rpms?
None at all man. I mean maybe a very very slight amount around 2k rpm, but not enough to really annoy me or any passengers. girlfriend even said how she likes how it isn't too loud in the cabin. They sound proofed the challenger pretty good in the design, whether intentional or not.
I'd pull the resonators, it works pretty well for me. I might post an interior drive video in a while later.

it's nice man, you won't be disappointed. There's mufflers in the middle (2, 1 for each pipe) and resonators at the back (also 2). I would suggest deleting both pairs.

Can you clarify? I have seen videos and pics for Borla S-type exhaust systems and they replace everything, but it looks like you only replaced the mufflers?? And/or the resonators as well?? Do you have any pics of those? Was there anything else replaced or was that it? Please advise. Thx.
So specifically I kept all the stock pipes and all, I only took out the stock mufflers and replaced them with these (which is mid pipe, near the transmission) and then cut out the resonators and replaced those with just some plain exhaust piping (which is back toward the tips, past the rear axle)

sorry never mind I went through the old comments and saw that your is a automatic. do you recommend putting them as far back as possible to not have drone I don't mean where the resonaters were but as close to the rear axle as possible
I'd suggest just forward of the rear axle. that's where mine are and I get no drone at all, but still completely no restriction

+Fernando Lopez GeorgeTown Muffler. Really awesome guys and they know what they're doing. Was nice work, and really not a bad price at all. I'd highly recommend them to you, I got a discount because of a friend, but I'm sure they'd do it around $250 or so, welds, parts and all.

So, you only replaced the mid mufflers? You did not replace the pipe assembly or the rear mufflers?
Yes only the mid mufflers were replaced. The factory pipe assembly is actually pretty good, so I kept it. The rear mufflers (or resonators) were removed, but not replaced, I simply got some straight pipe to put in place of where they once were.

Dude, you could’ve gotten the same deep growl with just deleting the “mufflers”, no lie and further deleting the resonators and it would cost about $200. Borla S Type I wanted originally, but I got the same sound with total delete (Mufflers + Resonators).
Eh, I had a friend who had a full delete done, I wasn't a fan of the sound personally, and I felt it was a bit too loud personally. With a kid in the back and fairly regular driving, I wanted to keep the volume manageable.
I can understand that. If you regularly transport your child in the back, crazy loud is not ideal for you. Mine is crazy loud. But I’m used to it. I’ve had Mustangs that were louder or comparable. Funny story, my first crazy loud mustang gave me a headache for about two weeks. 🤣 Then I’ve adjusted since. My situation: single, live alone, and rarely transport anybody and when I do, i go no further than 3 miles. So, if the cops are ok with it, then I’m definitely ok with it. Lol.
Hey brother car looks and sounds great. Got my 6 speed hemi being delivered on friday, Im friggin stoked! All you did to get the sound was install the Borla S type mufflers, not the entire cutback system or axle back system?
Yeah just the mufflers. Honestly the stock pipes are pretty nice. No need to change them from all that I've heard, just gotta remove the stock mufflers and resonators, those were made to government standards, so of course they're pretty lame. Glad to hear you got one though man, you'll enjoy it I promise you!

Sorry to be a pain, I was checking borlas website. Are these the S type universal mufflers for dodge? Also was welding required or was it just removing clasp?
+Rocco Muffoletto not a problem man it's what I'm here for! yeah the universal s-types is what I grabbed. You can clamp 'em if you want, but the stock stuff is welded in so you'll need to cut 'em off, and I would highly recommend welding them, makes a difference in sound and performance. It'll cost you a little more to have the shop do it and all but it's worth imho
It sounds far better - great choice! So, what exactly was replaced since there are two possibilities; actual mufflers (by x-pipe or further inboard) or the resonators (near tips)? Or both with the mufflers or resonators being replaced by a straight pipe. It's a big detail for anyone wanting to replacate your success. Thanks and what a great looking R/T. Doug Kessler haha thanks man, I love the color as well. So the mid pieces under the seats are the mufflers, and those are what I replaced, just behind the x-pipe. The resonators in the back behind the rear axle I just cut out entirely and replaced with some standard piping of same stock diameter.

hey when you do make a video try to make one where your pulling off so we can hear the sound at throttle maybe get someone to record or set it down on ground and maybe a full throttle or half

No codes thrown. The challenger takes it with no problem, and honestly I've seen a solid boost in MPG

Yeah man! So there are 2 pairs of silencers they use in the exhaust system... The Mufflers (located mid pipe, directing under the cabin, right behind the transmission) and the resonators (located at the very back, just before the exhaust tips). I had BOTH pairs removed completely, and took these S-type mufflers in place of the original mufflers (behind trans). Then, just took some typical straight piping and filled in the spot that the resonators were at. so now, there is only 1 pair of silencers, of which are very sport specific.

Yeah I did both. Replaced the resonators with some typical steel pipe, and then just removed the old mufflers and put in the Borlas. Everything is welded in nice and smooth

I did! And no it doesn't. I asked the dealership first to be sure and they said so long as you leave the cat forward alone you're fine.

Got a deal because of a friend who worked there, so the price I got isn't accurate, but still shouldn't be too terribly expensive. they welded em, I prefer welded for sure.
Did you buy 2 or 4 mufflers? Also which ones did you replace?
+PhuzzySlipperz 2 Mufflers. I replaced them near middle, where the factory mufflers were, and deleted the resonators (at the rear). Because they're straight thru instead of the offset like the factory mufflers, they had to be placed a little before the rear axle, rather than right behind the transmission. Works well regardless.
Personally I think that ducktail would look good black. The car sounds good tho

Had an exhaust shop do it. Don't have a welder and really wanted it welded, so figured I'd have them do it, plus I had a buddy hook me up with a damn nice deal

Hey man, unfortunately I no longer have the car. Sold it off for an upgrade recently. I can tell you it went in place of where the resonators were, pretty much right under the from seats.

All good man. For the pair I paid $350 if I remember correctly. They were a steal on amazon
just do resenators. new magnaflows. rocks. no pop.. you did a good job... but i guess it depends on what you want! i have drone at 68mph. but 72 it's gone. silent! cylinder deactivation! so cool. but then hit a bit it blows up.... ha, fun...

I have A 2015 challenger Rt I cut the mufflers off installed straight pipes left the resonators on total cost hundred and sixty bucks way better then spending 900 bucks on a new exhaust system also installed cold air kit an oil catch can anyone with a Hemi should install an oil catch can system

It's automatic actually. Opted for the 8-speed with paddle shifting, seeing as this is a daily driver, and its just all around more convenient and shifts much faster.

it will not! I actually asked the Dodge dealership and maintenance guys to be absolutely sure, and so long as you only mess with things from cat back, youre good to go.
