Thanks so much for the video. Changed mine out yesterday, 2003 GMC Sierra. I came back from vacation after 3weeks and drove to the store and could smell something like burning electrical. I came out of the store and everything quit, or at least I thought it did. I checked the fuse and it was ok. I did have power to the unit and the ac lights would come on but no fan. The kit to replace the fan motor, resistor, and connector is only 82 bucks at Rock Auto. Its also OEM, not cheap junk like this. Even the OEM part shown in the video is only 33 bucks on rock auto. GM recommends you replace the motor, resistor, and connecter all at the same time, because the OEM motor draws too much power, causing the resistor to overheat and fail. the replacement kit solves the problem which causes the failure. I opted to replace all 3 at once using the kit.

Nice video. Helped me lots. Things to consider but please remember that my left arm is only about 70%. The passenger side seat rail digs into your side as you lay in the floor board. You really have to get your head towards the firewall to see the screws that hold the shroud. The plug that is inserted into the fan is the hardest part because you can't really see how it can be released. I had to use pliers. It was easier to bolt on the new unit and even plug in the fan wire. The best thing is that it works!!

@@laloperez5209 Watch this persons video for sure to see where things are in the truck..In my case I pulled the fan speed blower motor resister out from under the passenger side underneath the glove compartment area to inspect it. You can see the housing for it with no problem once you know where to look. When I pulled mine out I noticed that there was some burnt/melted wiring evidence on the wiring harness for the resister and upon removing the old part from the harness I saw that the wiring harness was melted significantly on the inside where the pins went into it..specifically the pins that controlled the fan speeds that were not functioning. I bought a new wiring harness from O'rielly's Auto Parts and cut the old one out. it was easy to replace just by splicing in the new harness based on the old wires orientation. I think the only way to check is to have a look at what the current resistor looks like. If it looks cruddy, replace it and it'll probably be back to working. If not, its probably the HVAC controller box (the dials) which is also an easy fix.

All the speeds work on mine but each higher speed drops the voltage on ammeter 4&5 take down to less than 12v
Its a knuckle buster on a 04 ss. Just did mine and im pissed. Sliced my thumb and took off the skin on my other hand. Fyi don’t do this when its 22 degrees outside. I had no choice because i use mine for work. Frozen ass yesterday so i had no choice but to do it today. Fyi the center console is in the way of the left screw.
Ahh that stinks. It has definitely been cold! I hate it when they don't think about things being taken back apart when they design vehicles. Hope you got it all done at least!
@@TheSundaeDrive agreed lol I don’t get it. Example why the hell is the blower motor plug facing the wall and not to the side or front. Lol.
Lol super annoying at time. Clear that different engineers design different parts and don't chat
Thanks
Glad it helped!
Very helpful! Thank you!
1-4 does not work for me. If 4 does not work then is it just a dirty contact?
Any tips ? I’ve replaced my fuses , resistor , blower , still nothing comes out . Thinking maybe something in the control knobs ?🤷🏼♂️
My 06 GMC Sierra melted the back of the fan speed control switch.
My #5 isn't working at all even replaced the resistor????
Hey my fan works from 1-4 but speed number 5 doesn’t run at all would you say replacing the module would be best thing to replace for that?
From the other comments I've seen it looks like others have had that same issue and it's fixed it
I saw in another comment that number 5 has a fuse in the engine bay fuse box....1-4 are inside cab fuse panel. I would check that fan/blower fuse under the hood.
Should replace the harness also
How can o check if it’s bad none of my fan speeds work
A lot of times there is very visible damage on the resistor.
@@TheSundaeDrive yea it has rust and the entire green thing has cracks all over it that’s most likely the reason right?
Theres a good chance that is the issue. Quick swap to be sure.
@@TheSundaeDrive before i order the part everytime i try to turn on the air the truck makes a noise and hit air comes through vents at high speeds is it just that part or something else?
Good video man I have almost the same problem but in my truck the fan speed work 1 2 and 3 the 4 and 5 does it work my question is I have to do the same thing that you do
It works all 5 or not work
Just FYI...my 04 Avalanche used 8mm screws to hold in the resistor.
I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado sometimes my fan dials work and sometimes they don't
Replaced blower motor and resistor and and the control switch still no power to the front heat and ac
I put new speed controller and resistor and still will not come on. The number 5 speed wouldn't work and then it just quit all together
Does this help with blowing hot air in both sides?
No that’s the A/C Actuator
