I replaced a blower motor last year a few months after the heat wouldnt work but it would still blow but it was summer so I wasnt worried about it but now it doesnt turn on at all since I just replaced the blower motor last year should I try replacing the resistor first?

I have a 2007 ford expedition I have had everything replaced for the ac..the condenser, the lines , blend doors, the actuator , compressor , ECT..all relays and fuses are working. The system is charged no leaks detected Ac works fine for months then goes back to hot air then works again for a while then stops this is a dual ac system makes no sense what could cause it to work fine then stop .. what could the issues be?????

This turned the little light bulb on! My resistor blew out, with my original blower motor(really old). I replaced the resistor, it worked fine for a few days. Suddenly the blower didn’t work either. Put in new blower motor, still didn’t work. But now I think I blew out the new resistor on the old blower motor. So now i’m hoping that with my new blower motor, that a new resistor should not longer be “cooking” from the old blower motor! As the video sats, replacing both would be best. Thanks for the great video!

Excellent video. Did the basic test light check at the motor harness, power was there. So as suggested, i ordered both blower and resister 6 days ago. They came in the mail today. Took about 20 minites to swap out my 08 tahoe and now the air blows freely again....just before the ice and snow that is coming tomorrow!
    Thank you!

Thank you a million times. My fan blower motor went out in the middle of the winter. I've been having several problems with my car and didn't want to sink too much more money into it. Thanks to your video and a few others I was able to change it myself and was only out the cost of the part. You saved me hundreds of dollars vs. bringing it into a shop. 😊

Thanks for this! Helped me to understand the system and check everything. My fan was making noise for a day, then it stopped turning which caused the resistor to smoke. I watched the video, pulled the motor and found it was binding. Replaced it. Pulled the resistor, and smelled it! Yes, it smelled like burnt plastic, which was same smell when the system smoked. Replaced resistor, checked all fuses. Replaced both for less than 100$. Thanks for the video! 🙏🏼

The last blower job I did, the problem was debris in the ducting that had jammed in the fan. Fortunately the stalled fan motor had not burned out (protected by a blown fuse) and removing the obstruction cured the problem.

Great video. Love these walk-throughs. Just wanna point out that if a persons suspects a bad resistor pack out of the gate, testing for resistance on all of the resistor points should allow you to make that determination instead of using deduction to come to a reasonable conclusion about what is wrong.

Great video! This is how this worked out for me: confirmed bad resistor and replaced myself. Worked short period of time. Took it to mechanic. Resistor replaced again. Worked a little while than inconsistently. Now stopped. Now will confirm cabinet air filter clean/replaced, new resistor and blower motor. Sometimes lessons learned the hard way.

Very helpful video. My fan wasn’t working, I was getting volts before and after Resistor/Relay thinking fan was toast. Took the fan out hooked it up to my battery and it worked. Glad i didn’t buy a new fan. I was a lil confused why everything worked but Put everything back together. Maybe loose connections or there was a few dozen pine needles in the fan. Ty

I have a question about the resistor…I get a natural gas or rotten egg smell every few minutes or so when my blower is running. Is that the resistor ? I just replaced my blower and everything works. I just can’t get rid of the smell. I changed the cabin air filter like 3 times. Thanks in advance!! You’re doing a great service for a lot of people.

I got a test light from O'Reilly and it couldn't reach the positive side of the terminal. I didn't have my tools on me either. While I plugged the blower motor back in it started to work again. These helped me narrow it down, I think it's a loose wire in the connector. Thank you

Check your cabin filter aswell! The low pressure created by the blower motor from a clogged cabin filter can put excess strain on the blower, resistor and circuit.

resistors contribute to alot. fun fact, if your car is having the issue of heating or cooling only one side of the car (left vs right) many times its a faulty resistor. after trying to recharge the a/c system and checking blendoors, the resistor turns out to be the culprit more than not.

Great video and trouble shooting steps. Allowed me to figure out my problem with my blower motor problem. However, going through these trouble shooting steps brought me to the only issue NOT mentioned in this great video, the BLOWER MOTOR RELAY! Can't believe there was no mention of that possible issue. But since the fuses were good but had no power at the blower motor resistor, next possible issue is the relay. But keep up the great videos!

At minute 3.18, he verified the power, coming from the relay, so it is not necessary to check the relay, if there was no power, yes, he would have to first verify the continuity of the line and the efficiency of the relay, in my opinion the youtuber did the right job.

Quick hack… if you have no fan kicking on, go to your blower motor and give it a good smack. If it turns on, you know you either have a loose connection or most likely the brushes in the motor are going bad.
That’s how we did little quick tests on some conveyors in the warehouses when I did maintenance before working in planes. This test was to see if it was a blown fuse on the circuit board ( like the resistor he’s talking about and showing) or to see if the brushes were bad on the actual motor. If the dead spot on the flex conveyor started moving again, we changed the brushes and blew out the motor.
When the motor completely fails and freezes up, then it blows the fuses.
But yea. Be more technical like this guy and use multimeters and stuff.

    2005 Pontiac Grand Am
Discovered water on passenger floor and blotted and sucked it up to dry. AC vent leak? I still don't know and no recurring floor flood.
Months later Blower speed 5 stopped.
OK so 1-4 was ok for another week or so then altogether failed and faint burn odor could be smelled. Removed resistor and see some blistering, bubbles on surface and detected burn smell culprit. Replaced resistor. Still nothing. Checked fuses. Nothing. Replaced blower, and it needs to be exact fit with cutaway for BCM slide in. Nothing. Removed BCM and inspected for exterior pin and interior corrosion. Nothing inside but outside 2 pins and some green oxidation cleaned. Still nothing. Next up is what, the actual blower control switch on and behind dashboard??
    Ugh!

I have a 2004 Chevy Venture. The blower first started not working intermittently, in all 5 speeds, then stopped working altogether. When taking things apart I noticed some melting in the 2 prong harness going from the old control module to the blower. I changed the control module and found 4 of the lower fan settings work but not 5, the highest. It's totally dead on 5. Should I install a new blower motor or could the new control module be bad? How loose should the blower squirrel cage be when spun by hand? Mine seems fine but it does have a bit of resistance. Could that be causing a failure on the highest setting?

But the question my heat blower not turning off in my 2012 impala LTZ what do you think it could be the heat control, the blower or the resistor?

Ive changed resistor and blower motor, stil no fan/heater. Going to change all fuses in relation to AC today.
If that doesnt work its a power ground, loose wire, issue right?
The blower worked intermittently and then went out completely.

The blower on my impala got so it would stop running . sometimes after 20 or 30 minutes but sometimes after a few seconds. Bought a resistor to replace it but discovered that wiggling the plug on the resistor made the blower start or stop. Shot some contact cleaner in the plug and the prongs on the resistor. Plugged it back in and wiggled the plug. Also plugged and unplugged a few times. It seems to be fixed without any parts. Will take the resistor back if it continues to work.

My 97 outback gave me over 400k without any hint of blower trouble. Now I have an 08 model and the the blower decides to stops working and failed the rego cert. Why do they make such junk cars now? BTW, the 3 speed fan still works on my 1968 Chrysler.

Thank you very much, the information you provided is awesome! I've looked at a lot of the videos, but I need help with something else.
2004 Tahoe w/rear HVAC. The rear temp blend actuator swaps from hot to cold continuously. None of my mechanic friends could figure it out. I've swapped the to actuators (same parts number) and replaced the rear control module twice. I live in south Georgia, so several years ago I manually (snapped the motor cover off and moved it) set it to cold and unplugged it. Btw, I'm a parts guy for over 30 years. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks again.
