  • In this video I show you step by step how to Install a new AC blower motor resistor in a 2003 Chevy Silverado. Symptoms of a bad blower motor resistor are the AC blower staying on after turning vehicle off, fan speed adjustment stuck or not working, or intermittent AC operation.
    This install should apply to all 2003-2006 Chevy/GMC trucks and SUVs with dual climate control digital AC controller.

    Best video for how to do this job. Just did this on my 2005 Yukon Denali with over 300,000 miles. Hardest part was lining up the holes to put the cover back on! Oh, and having to go back to the autoparts store to get a larger wire connector (need the largest ones for the red and black wires and the smallest for the purple wire). Harbor freight wire connectors $2. Advance auto wire connectors $9. In a hurry to beat the sunset, so had to go with $9 connectors. But I'm sure I saved about $300 by doing this job myself. Also, I went with the official GM part from Rock Auto rather than the cheaper knockoffs just because I didn't want to have to do this twice. One more thing. My reason for the replacement: Fan stopped working, or was intermittent. Then I'd hear it running after the car was turned off. Had to pull the fuse in the fusebox under the hood to keep battery from draining. After replacement, put the fuse back and now the fan works fine. Thanks for the great video!

    Im not sure why you would have any thumbs down on tbis. This is the correct way to install the new Factory GM Part. Every other video i reviewed seemed to get this incorrect. Oreillys gave me the wrong part and others could not even find it. So i got this part from Cadillac. The resistor is falable done any other way. Nice job! Im about to do this, so ill follow up. I may have a question or 2, if I do and you have responded ill email you. Good work.

    My 2006 Silverado air conditioning doesn’t smell, but it stops working off and on. Had the coolant replaced and didn’t help. Compressor is fine. No leaks. The fan works fine. When the cold air stops on its own here and there, fan still going, the air seems more humid only then (when the cold quits) and smells slightly wet. It’s started the day I got it back from a fuel pump change…

    Replaced the resistor in my '04 Silverado last year and the other day the fan quit. Checked all the fuses, put a multimeter on the power wire to the motor and fount it was all good. Plugged the motor back in and voila, it was all good again. Must have been a loose connection to the motor.

    • @killscapeRS
      @killscapeRS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A basic check would be to pull the blower motor out (which is very easy) and check to see that the fan spins freely. A lot of times dirt and dust will get into the bearings and cause it to lock up or draw more amperage and it will blow fuses.

    If I get this right it's the blower motor resistor that tells the actuators what to do ? So if my newly installed temperature actuator doesn't change the temperature it could be the blower motor resistor that needs to be replaced ? I only get hot air at maximum setting... Thanks.

    • @killscapeRS
      @killscapeRS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The blower motor resistor only controls the speed of the blower motor. The actuators have a tendency to need to be recalibrated once in awhile maybe check out a video on that if you haven’t recalibrated your new actuator.

      No. The resistor only controls the fan speed. In my opinion (for your problem), you are low on freon or some other issue. But I DO know the resistor has nothing to do with it.

    If purple was just twisted and grounded out would it blow a fuse or resistor

    • @Josephthinleg
      @Josephthinleg ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you ground it out? That would indeed wreck something lol. But yes you can twist it well, but why not put a butt connector (or some connector) on it? If the wires are too small, you can just strip more and double it over (bend in half) or you can add some extra wire in the connector. Or solder it yes. Yeah you can just twist them and add a bunch of electrical tape, but they will most likely come loose eventually as the electrical tape wears out from heat and age etc. Best to do it right the first time and much easier down the road yes.

    • @BrandonWSD007
      @BrandonWSD007 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats not the reason. They wanted continuity in the wires. You can probably buy a fast clip for both ends, but they could not make a new clip, attach to a 20 yr old clip, all worn on, and for sure make it work. This is the only correct way to do this!

  • @sammysam45

    Any part number for the resistor with the wire harness?

    • @BrandonWSD007
      @BrandonWSD007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The resistor harness comes with it. Just give GM your VIN # and ask them for the AC Blower resistor. You most likely will not get this fixed through an autoparts store or Amazon, unless you get a reman of an original. Thats just a waste of $$$. OEM on this particular issue says rewire due to faults in the older made resistor. I think this may just be easier for GM to make really.

    • @Josephthinleg
      @Josephthinleg ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't understand why you cut the wires either? I'm pretty sure they come with wiring harnesses to avoid that step it. But yes thats easy to do lol, but still.

      Thats exactly what mine did, it happened when I went out fishing, like why the hell is the fan still running with the engine off? Lol! Good thing I noticed or we would've been stranded out there with a dead battery, so yeah I took the fuse out. Anyways... for people who don't know, don't buy the generic green looking resistor if you have this digital display, that one is for the analog display only, NOT the digital display as shown here. Make sure to buy one like he has, either one (old or new style works good). Also, pretty sure you can get one with wire harnesses so you don't have to cut wires. Or... why can't you use the old wire harness? I'm going to? I mean it's totally easy, but, unneeded step in my opinion. I guess I'll find out, but yeah be way cheaper just to buy the part instead of "the kit" ya know?

    It's all bs. My 05 Yukon only works on 90°. I replaced the digital display and it did nothing.
    just a crock of crap
    It has had the resistor and harness wires all repaired and they went bad again for no reason.
    I hot wired direct using 12guage stranded copper wire and 30amp fuse at battery.
    Run wire to a new toggle switch then run wire to blower.
    Pull plug connector and use either wire for hot. For the other wire Connect a longer wire so you can Ground it to and body metal. Easiest to go into floor , just pull up the carpet and cut out that plastic and foam to drill a hole. Sand paper it shiny. Screw it tight.
    On my fused wire it's easier to connect into that red box by alternator. I tried a 20 amp fuse but it blew immediately.
    8 ft of wire barely made it.
    Also my rear heat went out because I had pulled my battery cables off and somehow that deactivated the actuator inside the back unit. So I just pulled my battery cable off again and put it back on and it works fine each time that happens. Or just pull the HVAC fuse for a minute and then put it back on
