05:00 I think it's more the lack of internal monologue. Jennifer Lawrence played true to the book that Katniss keeps everything internal most of the time.
I know!! Like I said, seeing Katniss break down but then Buttercup being there to comfort her when she wakes up really shows the beauty of an animal-human connection, and also how Prim was able to help her heal even after she's gone. 😭
i read them as they came out and reread them during the pandemic and was utterly happy that they were as good as i remembered maybe even better bc truly there so much i know about the world now that made it more real and heartbreaking. truly amazing books
I would've sworn for my life that Seneca Crane was mentioned in the first book and lost my life in that bet. I'm honestly shocked he's not even mentioned until the second book
I just want to say that your obs about the capitol citizens being ok with children murder and being terrified with the death of a unborn baby is on point. It's so frustrating when a dystrophy feels just like our reality..
I'm rereading these rn! I'm almost done with Catching Fire. I really want to read the prequel, since the movie just came out. I was super busy when it released a few years ago, but now I'm super nostalgic for some reason about these! My books even still have my name written in the fronts of them because I would bring them to 5th and 6th grade. I'm 22 now. 😭😭😭 I saw how different I wrote my name and I started sobbing. I'm glad you started reading them!
Omg I have the same feeling to finally read the prequel! I think it's really beautiful how the movie coming out has invigorated so many people to dive back into their childhood love of the Hunger Games! I hope your reading goes well ~
this video gave me such a nice sense of nostalgia for THG ever since finishing the series in high school/early college days! obviously i feel like there's a lot i don't remember but would still enjoy to this day. it was very cool to hear your unbiased perspective!
I re-read the series a few months ago for the first time in maybe a decade, and it's crazy how good they still are as an adult. I too am a Katniss x Peeta stan and also sobbed while re-reading Mockingjay 😭 I still need to read the Ballad prequel, and now another prequel set around the second quarter quell was just announced which I'm SO excited for! Hunger Games fans are getting fed (no pun intended) all these years later 🙌
NINA I was so so glad to watch this!! I loved this book series and I LOVED BSBAD you both have to read it 🥰 the movie was amazing as well. I agree that being able to be inside the mind of Katniss definitely adds a peice that is missing from the movies, but honestly the movies are masterpieces imo so I wouldn’t change a thing 😂 so so great to hear your thoughts ❤️
I read these books a little bit before I found out about the first movie coming out. November/December 2011. I had no spoilers for the trilogy, so imagine finishing Mockingjay just as I'm supposed to go the a Christmas party at my sister's new husband's family. Like how can I act like I'm happy about Christmas when i literally just finished Mockingjay less than an hour ago 😭😭😭
Ugh that hurts so bad 😔 Even knowing what happens in the end it still destroys you emotionally so I can't imagine how bad it would be not having those spoilers
I agree! No movie adaptation is perfect, but I think they got most of the essential plot elements for the movies. But it's always going to be hard to replicate a book told in first person since we see so much of Katniss' mindset in the books that doesn't always show up on screen!
1. i loved this video! 2. if finding out you had a wife is what pushed me to hit subscribe, can you blame me? i’m a simple lesbian; i see women loving women, i click.
I read these in middle school, and then again recently, but I never made the connection on the Capitols opinion on expecting mothers vs mothers with children! Definitely art reflecting life there

Reread these a few years ago and was genuinely surprised by how hard the ending hit me, I had tears down my back somehow??
I'm rereading them rn, I'm almost done with Catching Fire. Mockingjay is going to wreck me with having to relive some of those moments.

Seeing this made me want to re-read the trilogy again 😁
Do it!
I would've sworn for my life that Seneca Crane was mentioned in the first book and lost my life in that bet. I'm honestly shocked he's not even mentioned until the second book
I know, considering how much he's in the movie! I assume that is to give more time also to Snow, and flesh him out as an antagonist.
I just want to say that your obs about the capitol citizens being ok with children murder and being terrified with the death of a unborn baby is on point. It's so frustrating when a dystrophy feels just like our reality..
And nice to meet you \o

Ahhh thanks! It feels like everyone is reentering their Hunger Games era bc of the new movie, so I'm glad to be a part of it as a newcomer 😄

Same!! I'm currently reading Ballad now and loving it! And I'm so excited that we are getting more books; march next year can't come soon enough! 😭

OMG I laughed so loud at this comment (and also showed it to my wife). Glad to represent the gays 😉🌈
What were your tabs labeled as?
I read these in middle school, and then again recently, but I never made the connection on the Capitols opinion on expecting mothers vs mothers with children! Definitely art reflecting life there
I know! Suzanne Collins really knew what she was doing in all her thematic work
Was so excited to watch this then I read the description 😔
