  • The one where we lose big time! at least we're in the record books, shame it's not in a good way!

Don’t be offended by the home run and big play celebrations. Every team in the world whether they are a national team or a club team has some funky celebrations that they do. Most are cheesy. It’s just a tradition of the game to have some sort of big play celebration.

Run rules exist in some forms of baseball and not others. The major leagues have no run rule, and the reason the US-Cuba game was not stopped when the US had 10 more runs than Cuba after the seventh inning was because the run rule doesn't apply in the knockout part of this tournament. Apparently in international play, if a team leads by 15 or more runs after 5 or more innings or 10 or more runs after seven or more innings, they stop the game then.

6:45 it’s a little bit of both. Most of Great Britain’s roster is incredibly inexperienced, plus, with the exception of qualifying for the world baseball classic, which was three games, they’ve never played together before.

@@hifijohn yes most of them play in the lower levels of the minor leagues, but very few are actually purely Americans. The vast majority of them were born in the Bahamas or the British virgin islands, which are both part of the English Commonwealth. The ones who weren’t had parents who were from England or the Bahamas.

@@gracielynn9623 Personally, I am glad eligibility was a bit less restrictive than, say, the Olympics. All games were very entertaining (even this one, despite the score) and I hope that this + the games they play in London will help baseball grow in Britain. Gradually, as the game grows, more players directly from the UK will be on that team, and they can grow as a baseball nation. If it's any motivation, Australia's baseball fandom is booming - and they wouldn't want to miss a chance to beat them again at a new sport! ;)

@@GreatCdn59 I think these are identical to Olympic eligibility rules

The run rule only exists in the world baseball classic. Essentially its purpose is if you are losing by 10 or more runs, they will end the game two innings early to prevent injury and limit the embarrassment to the national team. They figure if you’re down by 10, it’s probably only going to get worse.

I think high school or little league have a mercy rule.

It also exists in the Premier12, the European Championship, the youth/women’s World Cups, and the Asian Championship, plus their associated qualifiers

Another reason to pick the Seattle Mariners, the catcher for Great Britain is their top prospect.
