Andrew signed an agreement that required him to maintain the upkeep of his dwelling in exchange for a great rent deal. Royal Lodge is crumbling.
I think Her Late Majesty was trying to save Andrew's face when she set up his lease on Royal Lodge. I think She hoped Andrew would realise in time that he simply can't afford to keep up the maintenance and he would quit. Thus saving his face. Regular exterior and interior maintenance is part of his lease. As with every other leaseholder, if you don't keep up your part of the deal, the landlord has the right to terminate the lease and you're out! The property has clearly had no exterior maintenance within the regular time frame of the lease, I hate to think what the inside of that place is like. Can they even afford any cleaning staff?
It’s hard to get a “real” story about anything that is going on with the RF. We heard just a month ago that Royal Lodge was not in that bad a shape. So which is it? Is PA in or out, or out and in? Can’t have it both ways….
@@KatherineSpinks-cu9io The engineers that were hired to inspect Royal Lodge found the roof was near collapsing (I think that is pretty darn serious and shows great neglect). Next, they said there was rot in walls and ceilings on the upper level, and full of mold and near collapsing in. Great neglect indeed. By not maintaining the roof, he nearly destroyed all the interior upstairs. A Multi-million $ renovation is needed...where is Andrew going to get that from? he owes Charles over $8million and Crown estates over $3million and he borrowed $2million from "a friend" to repair the roof (not the interior though)...so that is $13million he owes people and cannot pay back. His security is $2million pounds a year and he can't pay it. He couldn't pay his utilities so Charles paid that....Charles has said "No more" and offered him Frogmore which is big enough for Andrew and Fergie, and doesn't require as many staff, and is less costly to provide security for and has had all recent updates / maintenance....he turned up his stupid nose at that. I wouldn't offer it again...he should be told to "go find something somewhere you can afford" . Let him pay his own security, his own utilities, and let crown estates tell him..."either do all the repairs now or you will be evicted" and let them do their job. Andrew is rude, ungrateful and expected he could run up bills and Charles would just pay them...Charles is saying "No thank you".

Andrew needs to lose his ego, pride and belief in his entitlements and move out. Andrew seems to believe anything he does both privately and publicly is not up for comment or scrutiny and will not concede anything. Fergie has been allowed back as his keeper and to hopefully keep his mouth shut and follow the public expectation he be only in the background. Charles has a major problem ahead of him but I doubt William will rightly so, be less gracious to his Uncle.

People make the big mistake thinking that all Royal residences belong to the Monarch or individual members if the Royal Family. They do not. Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Royal Lodge etc., actually is owned by the Crown Estate and the reigning Monarch oversees such residences. The King I assume inherited Balmoral and Sandringham from his mother since they are not part of the Crown Estates.

I’m not if Kensington Palace is owned by Crown Estates but Kensington Palace Gardens certainly is. It is usually referred to as being owned by the Monarch on behalf of the nation so it is certainly not the private property of King Charles.

know that it is much larger than

But it is is near the cemetery
and mausoleum. And as such
is used for a royal venue (Harry
and Meghan's wedding reception,
etc.) It probably needs as much
if not more work than the royal
lodge.
If the royal lodge was not a
historic property; the sensible
thing to do would be to tear
it down and build a modern
mansion with an elevator,
ample handicapped-accessible
bathrooms (take up a lot of
square meters/feet) and
ample storage (something
that all old houses lack)
Royal Lodge is badly in need of renovation work which Andrew cannot actually afford and therefore would not really be a suitable residence for William, Catherine and children.

That is his home, and he's been there so many years already, with a lease, no less!
I wonder if King Charles would think about having Andrew stay at Frogmore Cottage for only temporary, just as long as it takes for the necessary repairs to be done to Andrew's residence?
Then when all of the repairs have been completed, Andrew is welcome to come back home?

These hotels/motels where we stay now, are not stable and reliable.
It's near impossible for us to rent a regular apartment, or a house, because we don't pass a credit check.
(In America, you have to pass a credit check to qualify for an apartment rental, or a house rental).
So that is why we're stuck at these hotels/motels for now, until we are in a better financial situation.
If I were well, and able to travel, I would ask King Charles to let us stay at Frogmore ourselves!
And my daughter is a very good housekeeper and cook, she would absolutely LOVE to fix up that Frogmore Cottage, and she would be a good housekeeper, and a cook!!

It’s time for Prince Andrew to move to a smaller residence with his ex wife, Sarah.
The royal spares--Margaret--Andrew--Harry have created controversy and upheaval on a very public stage. Charles and William should have very serious talks with psychologists about exactly what a spare has to deal with and why there is so much acting out. Charles should send Harry a healthy allowance and tell him to stay in the US raise your children and stay out of the headlines. No matter who is right experience says when one brother tells another brother he does not approve of his choice of spouse leaves a deep psychological scar that will last the rest of his life.
Perhaps Andrew prefers his ex-wife having an entire wing for herself at Royal Lodge, as they do have an open relationship. It would be difficult passing each others date in the hallway.

He paid the woman off (settled out of court) because the case would otherwise have proceeded and overshadowed the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. I thought everyone knew that! He is reported as having been keen to fight the case against Virginia Giuffre who has since been discredited and humiliated in court in relation to the false allegation she made against Alan Dershowitz. This reminds me of the Queen of Hearts in "Alice in Wonderland": "Off with their heads... Sentence first, verdict afterwards" except it's "verdict first, trial afterwards".

Some of you are trying to liken Harry to Andrew. You need to remember that, due to assassination threats, Harry left Britain because his father refused protection, even though, as a royal, he was entitled to. He also DOES NOT get a living allowance but takes care of his own family. He is NOT using the people’s taxes for anything and he’s not whining. That’s why he paid back the crown for Frogmore himself so ties are cut. However, your tax money is going towards Andrew’s upkeep.

Audacious behaviour. Insists of staying, but not able to pay the bills, from what I understand. He should act in a gracious way and let William and his family move into the Lodge. If he goes voluntarily, he would re-gain some respect.

I think you're right. Your Queen Elizabeth was the last of the greats. The RF is showing itself to be just another petty family, but with great hereditary privilege. All of the 'soft power' has disappeared in my opinion.
