2014-2017 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Bi-Xenon Headlight Tear-down

In this video I will be disassembling a L494 Range Rover Sport OEM AFS Bi-Xenon headlight.
The LED lights on this are all held in place by melting the plastic to form a rivet. I had to break all of the plastic welds to remove the LEDs, making reassembly a very difficult task.

Can you advise which led type is on 12:41 in the video? I disassembled headlights to black it out and change xenon to bi-led lenses, and really want to change amber color to white, as the whole daylight running lights are. But can't find this small led number or type. Thanks!

@gftgrill thanks for the comprehensive video! I need to fix the DRL strip in mine. Out of curiosity, can the amber indicator be removed? It’s not a big deal but I just personally find it a massive eye sore

I'm pretty sure you can. the problem is that it leaves holes/gaps. Rather than removing it, you might consider painting it black or chrome to hide it.

My headlight went out on this model Range Rover. How do you change just the headlight bulb?

There is an access cover on the rear. you have to disconnect the ballast wire, then reach past the bulb and twist the bulb retainer to the left until it unlocks, then pull the bulb out. it's a pretty straight forward process, but space is tight.

Hi, I have a Range Rover Sport L494 2014. My left daylights (led) and blinker aren't working anymore but my big Xenon is. Pretty strange! Could it be the fuse? If yes, where is it situated? I'm looking for it but really can't find it. Thanks

I do not think there is a fuse for the LEDs. you most likely have a failure of the LED controller inside of the light.

Wvat kind of bulb on reflector which is on left side of headlamp?

no bulb. it's LED. Only bulb in the headlight is the main Xenon bulb. The rest are LED and are not serviceable.

There is no access cover to get access to a bulb. it is completely sealed as everything inside is LED

I guess that depends on what's wrong with it. There are not many companies that are willing to disassemble a headlight for repair. I would try to find a good used headlight and save yourself the time of trying to repair yours.

@@Boss-sb9ihThe only light bulb in the light is the main xenon light bulb. The rest are LEDs and cannot be replaced with out opening the headlight. You cannot buy the LEDs either, you have to have a 2nd headlight to pull the LEDs from to replace in the first headlight.

It just depends on how much time you want to invest into swapping parts. start to finish, I would expect about 6-8 hours to open your headlight and another and swap parts (assuming everything goes smoothly and the parts headlight is fully working. it will take you about 1 hour to remove and replace the headlight. Either way there is no guarantee how long the new LEDs will last (even on a brand new light).
you'll have to decide for yourself how much time and energy you want to invest in swapping parts vs replacing the headlight. If you replace do you buy a used one or a new one. FYI, you can buy these lights from Land Rover dealerships online for about 1900 + shipping/tax.

After taking my bumper off all day, I can’t even get apart the lense I’m absolutely spewin, not happy , would’ve been great if u had a video of getting the lenses off this exact headlight, just paid $110k for this car n now I’ve just wrecked the edges of the headlights, pissed off 😡

Did you sort it? I have a crack in my lens and was going to buy a broken headlight and try replace it. Would you say it’s more hassle than it’s worth?
