    Those main/ dip beam bulbs are pretty expensive being an HID unit that slots into the back (D3S/ D3R units) so no wonder you didn't get that when you got the unit!! Those bulbs are 60+ quid on there own!!! Still definitely worth tackling this job if you have the time and patience to dismantle it all down and then put back into a new fresh moulding and cover.

    Some manufacturers do offer a repair kit for the mounting lugs so that a headlight can be reused in the event of a minor shunt. It's a shame LR don't do this.

    Kudos, Simon. You did well controlling the cut with a relatively unwieldy cutting blade. Couldn't help but wonder if a Dremel type tool might have afforded you better control and precision? But you've certainly got more courage than I would have! 😆👍

    I think a multi tool with a metal blade in would be far easier to work with than an angle grinder Simon.
    Your a brave man yielding that beast.
    A brevel would do the job a bit more neatly and safely too.
    I'm just wondering why you pulled it completely apart though.
    Hopefully there's going to be a reassembly video 💯👍😊

      Yes multi tool us an option - they tend to melt the plastic which can be tricky - but i will try a multitool and a dremel
      Yes step be step rebuild guide was recorded today - its not too bad.

    So, on my L494, I have the same light. Simon, I do not see a bulb in the rounded opening, those openings facing the inside of the car. Have you any idea what they are for? Just decoration? 🙂 Thank you for your hard work! Much appreciated!

      @@L663 Oh, thank you! Let me try to explain once more. You have that enclosure on your current headlight. In your case, it's that enclosure on the left hand-side of the Xenon bulb. LEDs are going around, but I can't manage to find if there should be a bulb in it or if it's just for deco. At 0:52 on your video, right above your finger. That's the place I am talking about :))

    I am surprised you do not have a dremel. It is like a larger and more robust dental drill with many bits and fittings to try on the cutting part.

    A complex and brave job Simon….I doubt many will want to attempt such work but at £4814 per light, buying a 12 year old Range Rover one day will be a brave move! i think the day is coming when the only cars safe to own are under the manufacturers guarantee. Should I buy a Morris Minor?…headlamps on those were 30/=d (£1.50!) when I used to get them for my Uncle or on my Mini! Modern cars…are they a good thing???😨😱😀😀😀

    • @L663
      @L663  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Richard - you raise some good points but this is progress - we all enjoy the improved headlights on modern cars and all the safety features like airbags but these systems cost money. These items could be designed so that they could be repaired more easily.

    • @HQBProductions

      @@L663 Simon I understand your thinking and I guess few drivers have the slightest thought about the price of headlamps.A friend had a new Honda Accord as a firms car in 1999 and it used to break a headlamp glass every six months….I seem to think they were about £80 each! Even fewer would think about repairing them but you are on target…why are they made in a way that makes repair all but impossible. 🤔🤔🫢See what you can do to drive the idea of repair rather than throw.😐😐😐😀😀😀

    I wonder if you couldn't use a windscreen wire remover to take off the lens. The main obstacle perhaps would be that a windscreen is glass and the housing (car body obviously) is metal and due to its size and weight, stays put of its own accord. A headlight as you have demonstrated is made of plastic, light (no pun intended) and would need to be held firm in order for the wire to be able to work. The Goonzquad brothers (See Goonzquad channel) use this wire and seems to make light work of taking off a windscreen - or 'windshield' as they call it over there. It might give you an idea for a better tool rather than being an off the shelf solution perhaps.
