- How to tell headlights ballast and failing. In video I will you all the symptoms of a ballast problems. For example, if the hid or xenon lights flicker and turns on and off intermittently then the issue could be a ballast that is not functioning properly.

Dude.... everything you sayd is spot on my problem. I appreciate you, I'm going to get those ballast changed because it happens on both my headlights. They are really bright then start to dim slowly and then either the left or right it stops working, I then have to turn off the headlights and turn them back on constantly on my way to and from work. @@user-pq5tt6sg1v they ere on the headlights you see it once you take them off. I had to take off the bumper and take off the wheels to take off the screws on the wheel covers to get the headlights off. Then you have to unscrew the ballast it's a small box looking thing with a wire with a plug for your OEM bulbs..best get both of the ballast right and left because if one is going out the other isn't far behind. The worst part wasn't taking off everything I just sayd it's getting in the plug of the ballast in the headlight hole itself you have to loosen up the motor thats on your headlights, its adjustable moves the frame of your headlights up and down, thats what makes your lights move side to side when you turn.The hole of the bulb is very narrow for the plug of the ballast wire. It was a pain because you have to adjust the headlight motor down and up for the interior part of the headlight to move to give room for the headlight bulb that's now connected to the plug on the ballast wire, barely fits, then once you connect the bulb in the inside of the actual headlight you have to readjust it to be at the correct setting for the headlight beam to be at the correct height and straight. Luckily for me my brother in law works in a body shop so he knew what to do for that part of the job.😒

I had my ballast replaced and the problem is the same. Hope it’s not a wiring or electrical issue

Fantastic video! My car is a 2008/2009 MB E350. I am having an issue with my headlight on the driver side only which goes out after about 30 seconds of idle. However if the headlight is on and I am driving faster than 37MPH then my the headlight stays on, when I drop below it goes out. However I can get it back if I turn it off and on again or switch modes, but same problem happens if I go below 37 again. It seems kind of odd I have to switch modes every time I come to a stop light. If I am in my garage and put the headlight on it is super bright and wide (vertically), and then goes off after 45-60 seconds. I know funny problem, any suggestions or have you seen this before?

hey man i have a quick question. So recently one night I turned on the low beams to my RSX and I noticed a problem. One worked and showed the normal white color while the other one was a dim orange color. It’s weird because I bought new bulbs and been running them for about 6 months now and no problem until last night. I tried swapping bulbs to see if the color followed but it didn’t. So it can’t be the bulb being blown. And another issue was that when I turn on my high beams my passenger side headlight(which is the side that glows a dim orange) completely shut off. I’ve been looking around for videos and stumbled upon this one. Hope you can reply back so I can maybe get your input on it👍

I have a question but I just noticed reading the comments you don't answer questions 😞Hello sir Thanks for your video I have a question I have a 2016 Kia K900 low beams are HID and are very weak basically you cannot see at night with a low beam when I turn my fog lights on I can see a lot more so I replaced my HID light bulbs no change lighting is still the same emitting basically no light except when you look at the front of the car you can see that the lights are on so my question is do you think it's the ballast?
I did purchase two used ballast that said they were working and tested but of course I have to remove the bumper so just wondering if it's the ballast. Before I go to the expense of replacing them.

So I have had headlight issues on my F30. The passenger headlight used to work pretty reliably. Then on start up the passenger side would reliably start up after the driver side. Then recently it wouldn’t turn on the past 2 days, but sometimes at the end of my commute it would turn on. I replaced the bulb and ordered a ballast. Could be wiring/connections/ballasts on my end.. does that sound right?

My low beams only work when key is turned to auxiliary. As soon as you turn car on the low beams give a quick flicker and don’t come on. High beams work fine. Could ballists in both sides be bad at same time? Thanks!

Maybe you can help with my problem? I have a Hyundai i40 2015 with self adjusting beam. At the moment the High beam seams ok but when the low beam activates because of on-comming traffic I can hardly see 4m infront of me. What can this be caused by?
So a ballast is only for hid. Because i dont have hid but i got the symptoms your explaining

Would a bad ballast cause an error pop up on dash saying daytime running lights not working? I checked them and the do work but I get that message. It’s on a 2010 Audi a6 c6

Without opening the vehicle up, how can we tell? My cars lights turn on just like this but it is dim and indeed, after a short while it turns itself off. I'm able to get it to turn back on by flashing my headlights on and off a few times before it turns on again. It is very dim, orange color but still works. I assumed since a light bulb usually dies out completely, that it is a ballast issue rather than the light itself? I don't really see it flicker, just very dim and dull.
What causes the dashboard to say check right and lift headlamps after going from factory headlamps to led never had this problem before all I did was took the factory headlamps out and replaced them with new led headlight because led are brighter than the factory ones that was on my 2007 ford fusion now my dash cluster is saying check right and lift headlamps what could be the problem ????????????

LED headlights HIGH BEAM blue light on the dash lights up immediately, but High Beam itself lights up with a delay of 1-2 seconds. Is it an issue with ballast or smth else?

I replaced H11 on both sides when I turned on that only on for 20 seconds, and them they turned off.

So im curious, I buffed and waxed my car all the sudden my passengers headlight wont work. I replaced the fuse but still with a test there is no power getting to the left headlight. Would that be a ballest problem if no power is getting to both 10amp fuses for the left light? All other fuses have power

Hey bro I removed my headlights on a 2005 Toyota Avalon because I bought replacements. They were the wrong ones do I put the old headlights back in and now my driver hid headlight won’t turn on? The high and low beams won’t turn on but the passenger light works? I took it to a shop and they said it’s the ballast I don’t know but I’m about to buy a replacement aftermarket snd fo it myself. Do you think it’s the ballast? Do they just stop working like that? The blinkers still work and the fog lights work. Thanks

Ballast, junction box and switch seemed to have similar symptoms.
Ok so I have a Jetta and my whole headlight went out also my fog light and rear taillight but it’s only on my right side
Forgot to mention, the headlights also Flicker some times between High and Low beam.
And one more thing.. I changed the ballast and that was the problem. On the flip side it's a pain to change them. The ballast connection doesn't fit through the headlights you have to manually turn the motor on the deadllights that was the biggest problem and the most difficult of the whole project.
How can I be sure which the issue is, Headlight or Ballast? I want to buy the right item.

If the bulb looks good then it's probably the ballast. I had the same issue but my light was also broken

It works and it doesn't work. It worked after parking my car in hot sunny day for few hours, it stopped working after parking car aside after sunset for few minutes. I'm beating the shit out of ballast when it doesn't work, switches on 50% of the time. But itsa serious pain.
