Those clamps that Brian got at HD, you can get that same design at Harbor Freight also!

The Maltese Falcon was a series of stories in a magazine that started in 1929. The full story was published in book form in 1930.

    Good movie reviews.
Scott was surprisingly well behaved in this.
Maltese Falcon is a good movie. I've seen it a few times. I do enjoy watching TCM and AMC with the wife on occasion.
Brian's summary of the 2nd movie sounds about right for me. I haven't seen it, but if I stumbled across it I would probably leave it playing. Kind of like Zombie Strippers.
Not a good movie at all, but some funny parts, and just enough gore to keep it interesting.

@@brianclark2696 *_"Only on the ride"_* - bollocks (that well-known professional term oft-used in Anglo-Scottish exchanges) - Jason's work is admittedly off-the-charts, but YOU, Sir, have a *_TREMENDOUS_* amount of talent also.
Admittedly *_I'll_* be better once I learn which end of the brush to hold, but still, it's easy to identify quality even for numpties like me.

Ok, this is going to be another comment as I watch bit.
Looking good Brian. I agree with Jason you look a whole lot younger now. I think part of that is also being on vacation too.
I get what you are saying about that Optimus Prime. I have the ship from Battle of the Planets. It's molded in color and looks like an easy build. I keep thinking I 'should' paint it, but why? I think I am just going to make it a quick, weekend build, and maybe give it some recess shading.
Sorry to hear about the kit that shattered. But you are right, that base looks kewl.
Jason - that OSL looks great! I started dabbling with that last year, and hope to do more this year. You have to know when you can cheap out on clamps, and when you shouldn't.
Spring clamps don't matter. The cheap stuff still works. You can find the packs of those ones Brian showed you almost anywhere. HD or Lowes, Harbor Freight, think I have even seen some at some dollar stores. There are usually 4 sizes in the bag, the 3 Brian showed, and a couple really big ones.
Now, slide clamps. Cheap ones aren't worth it. Ever. They never hold, they slip, they will drive you crazy. I have some good large ones for 1:1 work, and a couple small hobby ones I have picked up at WF. Those work well too. But, I paid a few bucks for them, and it is worth not having the headaches, and them working as you need them to.
I completely get Brian when it comes to the contest at WF. Sure, I like to get medals, but that isn't my goal. I use the contest as motivation to finish kits and maybe improve some of my skills. I bring everything I build, every year. I don't care how good or bad it is. If I finish it, it goes to Louisville. My miniatures that I did, were bad. They were on the table though.
I do get the head-scratching moments though. A kit I hurried up and knocked out just to wrap it up with what little time I had left got a merit. Meanwhile one I love, and am extremely proud of (Smaug) got nothing. Doesn't change my feelings about the kit at all. I still love what I did on that. It is proudly displayed on my shelves in a prominent spot.
And the one that did get a silver, I have no idea why. I wasn't happy with the eyes. They aren't the same size. The armor was nothing more than a base coat, a dust coat from above, and some black lining. It was nothing more than something I finally wanted out of the closet and on the bench. I didn't even start on it until March.
The silver doesn't change the fact that in a few months it going to be for sale. It was one of those kit I wanted to build, but don't want to hang on to indefinitely.
For me, the medals only mean something if I worked really hard on a piece.
I will say, I was actually glad to only get one merit this year. It was nice to see the merit mean something again. The last few years, I felt they were more of a consolation prize with almost every kit getting a merit if they didn't medal. I much prefer when they mean, you were close, but not quite good enough.

Thanks. I really am not competitive with model building. I have my fair share of trophies and medals for sports. Chuck Homolka is always telling me to enter. He is my biggest cheerleader. I love the process.

Brian, just like retirement or changing jobs...when it is time, it is time. Obviously you made the right choice but it will also be refreshing you as an individual. When you give up so much of your time for others you sometimes lose yourself. I hope you enjoy remembering who you were and are becoming.
I believe the show you were talking about is The Repair Shop. If not, you will enjoy that show as well.
Jason, I always thought Film Noir was the STYLE of the movie, not the visuals. Like it dealt with dark themes, not necessarily stark lighting.
Great episode, fellas. This was enjoyable.

You are right - "Repair Shop" it is - my parents back in the UK are AVID viewers. I guess many modellers would enjoy the show (which has been running for YEARS) as it shows the same sorts of skillsets + attention to detail that are important to folks in our community - quality over quantity.

I always thought it was a mixture of both. Stark shadows / visuals and a dark story.

Sorry to hear about your Mother Brian. Guess we’re all getting to that age where our older family face extra challenges. Although the reason for you backing away from coaching may not be ideal, I hope you can enjoy at least *_SOME_* of the time it frees up.
Looks like the beard (and hair?) have been cropped? (wow - *_THAT_* was answered at 3:08 - LOL). Brian’s gone from Grizzly Adams to a larger/golden-hued version of Jason. Love the emotional support Animal Brian - made me smile dude 🙂
7:10 - Jason in a wine bar - I could have *_GUESSED_* how THAT was going to go! - a match made in hell (and not in a good way).
    As regards the movies:
    • I had (of course) heard of *_“The Maltese Falcon”_* , but knew nothing about the plot (never even looked it up online).
Nice to get a synopsis from someone who is a huge long-time fan, along with the 2 of you that are newcomers to appreciating it.
Based on Jason’s intro text above, I want to thank Mr. JohaMsen who attended as a subject matter expert, substituting for Scott Johansen 😇
    • Hmmmm - *_“Lowlifes”_* - “each to their own” as they say.
I’ll admit I’m repulsed with extreme horror/slasher movies as a genre (but am fine with sci-fi “horror” like *_“The Thing”_* and Alien & Predator movies etc. - go figure).
IMO, there is something a little disturbing about people who write/create this sort of stuff. I can guarantee that I will NEVER watch that (lol).
Thanks for the upload guys - allowed me to de-stress via some downtime on a Friday afternoon - *_you have been missed_* ! 👍
PS: Snatch is an AMAZING movie - watch it Scott! (and go in cold - avoid any/all spoilers!)

Now you see, for GI Joe x Transformers you want Skybound/Image's new runs in the Energonverse. Void Rivals, Transformers, and the Joe mini-series starting with Duke and Cobra Commander, now continued with Scarlett and Destro.
