Guys, on your good casting vs bad casting topic, Maybe on your original comments on FB (?) you should have been more clear as to who you were aiming it at (new modelers) as I was surprised at the blowback that occurred. Being as though I just started on a 23 year old resin kit and yes there are pinholes, air bubbles, pore sprues, mismatched seams, etc., but I knew what I was getting into before I got the actual kit because I’ve been in the garage kit hobby since the late 80s. Yes, new modelers should be aware of what to expect from a twenty + year old resin kit. The hobby has come a long way since for sure with new kits that I’ve bought in the last few years being as you pointed out pretty much (after washing) ready to paint. Even before I saw your post, I was pointing out that very thing ( old vs new resin castings) to my friends while showing them my new kit. I liked the idea, even more now that you cleared it up a bit. I think we as people should be a little more thick skinned and unless out and out attacked, just keep an open mind. I’m glad you showed some perfect examples of resin that needed extra work before painting. You should still do an episode ( or at least part of one) about new vs old resin casting. It’s still very informative even to some of us mature modelers 😁 so keep the faith guys and good luck and safe travels to both of you. 😎

I better go and buy a lottery ticket. So awesome and THANK YOU Paul Gill for the donation.
I don't mind the old castings and like the challenge of doing all the extra work to get a kit together. I actually have saved some of those pinhole and major seam work kits for when I retire next year and have more time.
Jason and Scott thanks for everything you do and have an awesome Halloween.

Why hide from the past? The standards for what makes an acceptable kit are different today than they were in the earlier days of garage kit modeling. That doesn't necessarily mean those earlier kits are all bad, or that the individuals producing them were doing something dishonest. It mostly means that we've all learned some skills along the way, and new modelers (and ourselves) now have much nicer kits to store in overstuffed closets, and never build. Can't believe I'm typing this but, "I wanna' snatch your body", and I've always found baseball to be a great cure for insomnia. Thanks for another great episode guys!

Selling older kits .. should say as is.. I mean these kits are over 30 yrs old.. Then your free and clear of complainers ..
Some kits should not be resold. Because of really bad casting uncured resin etc.

Jason, glad you decided to show the pictures. You made the same points I would have made. Early resin kits needed work, some more than others. My examples are pretty typical and aren't bad at all compared to a couple other kits I've worked on. The Nosferatu hand for example needs a little bit of seam work but as Scott pointed out, try casting that hand, It's amazing as is the head. Yeah, the old kits weren't perfect but we were just happy to have a fantastic kit of some obscure character. Thomas Kuntz was one of the first to sculpt and make garage kits of many of the old silent horror films and we loved them! He's a true pioneer in the garage kit hobby and is now doing fantastic automatons. Scott, I agree, some styrene kits are the worst. Poor fitting parts, seams galore, and poor detail. A lot of the new resin kits and 3D prints require little if any "Building" skills which as you noted is part of the fun.

I have to go to bed, will finish this tomorrow, but I just had to comment on how funny it was at around an hour and seven minutes when Jason said he will try to be more clear, and immediately went out of focus. 😀
Also, all the stuff you showed so far, isn't even bad. I was gonna send you worse pics.
I have a Babylon 5 shadow ship from WARP that half the parts are connected in sheets of resin that is like 1/4 thick or more. And it's that brittle crap that stinks. It's horrible. But it's also the only one I know of, so you either take on the challenge, or you don't get to build/paint that subject.
Also, it's not just old kits that need some work. Sometimes when you buy direct from a sculptor, you might need to do some work. They are sculptors, not casters. Most do a decent job, but it's not why they are in the hobby. It's just a means to an end.
Hell, I love almost everything Mike Parks produced, but almost everything I have gotten has had bubbles and pinholes because Mike didn't pressure cast. Doesn't kill the buzz for me, but if you don't know that, it can be an unpleasant surprise.

I wonder who these manbabies making threats against this topic.
I have alot 90's kits not perfect some alot work I have put down and start again in month or so..
Resin From The Grave is the worst....... hollow cast resin... brittle now..
To these people selling the collection people will ask questions you should be honest..
This was rough hobby back then
