    Tonight I watched this entire video with my three-year-old before her bedtime. She was enthralled ( _almost_ to the level of Daniel Tiger), following right along with your storytelling style and asking lots of questions about the tools and techniques. She said she can't wait for the video about the headboard (she calls it the big green pillow). I just wanted you to know that you are leaving a great impression on the next generation of artists and craftspeople.

      I am a trim carpenter and have been using that technique on wood for 30 years. I would add that, at least in my circles, it has a name. It is called "teasing the wood" or "rolling your corners". I am more impressed with the fact that he does it. Just because a person has a channel does not make them competent. He is competent. Along with the Samurai Woodworker, he is one of my favorites.

    A rhombus is an equilateral quadrilateral (Yes I used spell check for that). If the sides are not all the same dimension but the opposite side pairs are the same length, it would be a parallelogram. Any way you name it, it looks fantastic. :)

    Rhombus is what you get if you squish a square. So all sides are equal. Parallelogram is what you get if you squish a rectangle so only opposite sides are equal. Great vid 😉

    • @robertzarfas9556
      @robertzarfas9556 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WoodsmanSkills take a square. Hold it by the corners so like one corner on your thumb and the opposite corner on your pointer finger and squeeze. The two corners your are touching will get closer together and the other two corners will get farther apart. As long as the side lengths don’t change you have a rhombus.

    • @ikissfutebol12

      High School Math teacher here. More or less spot on.
      Technically a rhombus is only defined as a quadrilateral with all equal sides. A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides. ... and yeah, we are taking straight sides, not curved.
      So technically a square is both a parallelogram and a rhombus. A rectangle without four equal sides is technically a parallelogram, but not a rhombus. Clear as paint? ;)
      There are easy to find flowcharts online if anyone is confused and wants more clarity. I use them in class because it is something that often makes way more sense visually than strictly with words.

    • @karlleh
      @karlleh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Except for the fact that all squares are rectangles.
      (Also, all squares are rhombuses).
      A rhombus has four equal sides; a rectangle has four ninety degree angles.

    Hard to tell from the very off-angle view but I don't think that's a rhombus... I think it's a parallelogram. A rhombus by definition, all 4 sides have equal length. So the 4 sided figure analogous too am isosceles triangle except there are two distinct angles and not one... That would be a square. Your block, from what I can see looks like a parallelogram, different length sides and same basic configuration. AND yes I studied math for years LOL

      I've built 300+ bed frames for my business, and quite a number of those were nice hardwood ones. I never used the nice wood for the center support. I always used ash. It's a very solid, nice hardwood, but it's the least expensive of the ones I use. I'd never make a hidden part out of walnut unless the customer wanted it. But I've never had a customer care about that.

    • @micha-42

      @@bmay8818 I can't seem to find ash anywhere near me (Chicago). Big box and local lumber yard don't carry it. Any other option for a bed frame you'd suggest?

    • @bmay8818
      @bmay8818 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@micha-42 Of the hardwood bed frames I made, ash was the dominant wood because it's less expensive than the others, which is also why I made the hidden supports out of it on non-ash frames. It's a great wood, harder than red oak, and it looks nice. You can use just about anything really, though I'd stay away from the softer woods like alder. I've made a ton of doug fir bed frames because it's cheap construction lumber (which cleans up nicely in the planer), which I could get away with because I overbuilt my design. My favorite wood is walnut, especially paired with curly maple. I don't use exotics.

    Since your building it in one piece, how do you get it around corners, down the hall and into the bedroom, not to mention upstairs?

    Great build as always, Jason!! Uncompromising use of black walnut throughout :)
    I have a question, as I'm about to start a bed build of my own. My frame needs to be knockdown as there's no way I'm getting a big bed up my stairs unless it's in pieces. So the question is, would you recommend mitred corners if I'm using knockdown bed hardware, or would the corners never be pulled tight enough to look pretty?

      I am interested to know what hardware would pull in tight? Genuine question BTW

    Cool build Jason! Could you put whatever it was that you have holding up the bed while you were staining in the tool list? Thanks.

    My toe already hurts from the thought of kicking those A frame legs at the foot of the bed.

    For being a beginner, I’d love to know the board feet of rough cut you get for projects like these, all that black walnut makes my wallet hurt and I haven’t even built in it yet due to no local suppliers

    Do you sand the meters corners that had to be repaired for the gaps before the glue you added dries or after?
