      Daenerys was the best character bcuz she (was) fully developed as a character. People can accept her descent to madness bcuz her character arc was building up to that... however the show completely ruined it. Same goes for Jaime Lannister. He could also be seen as one of the best characters bcuz he (was) fully developed as a character... but driving past a Halloween store (yes, they're setting up already, lol) and seeing a poster of his costume the other day the first thing I thought was "I hope whoever wears that doesn't have a (twin) sister. That was NOT what Jaime's character was meant to be remembered for. Daenerys was NOT meant to be remembered as the "Mad Queen" (that was supposed to be Cersei's title). Daenerys' character deserved better than that...

    • @tatianaferreira5998
      @tatianaferreira5998 5 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      @@imonymous Dany doesn't have a messiah complex.
      She understands what it's like to be treated like a slave and to be bullied, so when she finds herself in a position of power she feels like it's her responsability to help those who are deprived of their freedom.
      Unfortunately, she was too young and inexperienced to understand the repercussions of her actions when she freed all the slaves in Astapor leading up to chaos, famine, disease and more war between the people. That's why she decided to stay in Meereen, determined to deal with this with diplomacy and peace. The masters obviously are showing her that they don't deserve this, but that's just my opinion.
      The point is, she's learning with her mistakes and that's all we could ever ask from a leader. Dany's not perfect, but the fact that she puts herself in this position sacrificing her own freedom by marrying Hizdahr zo Loraq, to help people that she doesn't even know, the altruism in her actions, says a lot about her character. No one else does that.

    This is something I've understood from the beginning. Dany is trying to get the Iron Throne because she feels its her family's, not personal desire. I never bought into this idea that she is obsessed with it.
    Preston Jacobs was wrong because he was obsessed with insignificant details. I find the sentence 'they were put out' of the House with the Red Door significant. The popular assumption is that the servants kicked them out after stealing their money. But the way the sentence if written says that SOMEBODY ELSE kicked them out, probably because they didn't have the money to pay for it. This suggests that Dery was not the owner, but was paying rent.
    The lemon tree was likely in a greenhouse.

      When does she actually comment on the weather, by the way? Totally forget!
      Plus, what happened to Rhaella and her baby? Did they die? I feel like Viserys would have been old enough at the time of her pregnancy to remember whether or not she had a baby, where it went, and himself being taken away from mother and baby both.

I've been saying for years that the Dance would make a perfect show for a lot of reasons. It's more a more focused and encapsulated type of story with all the politics, social dynamics and historical callbacks that made GOT so great. And fire and blood has a perfect blueprint of it.

    "To go north, you must journey south, to reach the west you must go east. To go forward you must go back and to touch the light you must pass beneath the shadow."
    Quaithe says she wants Dany to remember who she is, and that she is showing Dany the way. Why does everyone think who Dany is, is Fire and Blood? Why does everyone think Quaithes advice is merely geographical?
    Who Dany really is, is the girl wanting to go home to the red door and the lemon tree. If this is what Quaithe wants from her and this is "Dany's way" the prophecy can be seen way differently. The first two about north, south, east and west are likely to be geographical but "to go forward you must go back," to me sounds like Quaithe saying if she wants to live she needs to go back to who she is. Back could be the red door. "To reach the light you must pass beneath the shadow" is also interesting. The light could easily be happiness, and passing beneath the shadow could be passing beneath a dragon, or what she believes is her destiny.
    What if Quaithe is giving Daenerys advice to not seek the iron throne. She then warns not to trust any of the people who are coming her way and people she will encounter. "Beware the perfumed seneschal." This is what Quaithe ends her statement with in that scene. Why something so vague? Most Characters in the show are members of great houses. Most are probably perfumed. Is Quaithe maybe talking about Daenerys? Beware that version of herself? That destiny?

      Well, to be fair, she had to go North and fight this war. It wasn't "Jon's war" - it was mankind's war. In the books, Dany has a natural aptitude for battle strategy, so I hope she would understand that had she not gone North to use her forces, the battle (against the living, not "the North") would have been far, far more difficult to win. Shit, Stannis is a far better ruler than her if he understands that he needs to fight for the kingdom before the kingdom will fight for him, but she doesn't. I don't know why people keep saying she went to "fight Jon's war". She wouldn't have a kingdom of people to love her if she didn't go North.

    These videos are so hard to watch now that I know the nonsensical ending. It's heartbreaking to analyze the histories, when you know what a shit ending it turns out to be. D&D massacred my love affair with this saga and destroyed all my favorite characters. I can't even be excited about the prequel because literally what is the point? The Stark's are the Lannisters 2.0.. Dany's entire legacy is destroyed. Jon is a easy manipulated wussy. Jamie is the same a*hole he's always been. All the powerful women are reduced to begging messes. I am still in mourning.

    I think the house with the red door IS in Braavos. When you consider that the sea lord had a penchant for collecting exotic floral and fauna it's not unreasonable for him to have created a lush environment for those things to survive in, including grass and foreign fruit bearing trees.

Though Dany *has* had a "dream"/"vision", most likely *sent* to her, that explicitly tells her to "wake the dragon, wake the dragon". I think it's highly likely Viserys was being influenced/manipulated.

    Question: I think I've read a passage where King Aerys was described as "promising" in the books. It might be when Dany is asking Selmy about him (or it might be in AGOT). It describes him as promising and even kind, but as time went on, his behavior became more erratic. This passage worries for Dany, as she begins quite promising as well. As a big fan of her character, I'm worried Martin is going to take her down the Mad Targaryen route, almost to directly parallel Aerys. Do you have thoughts on this?

    • @rowan3682
      @rowan3682 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think she'll be "mad" as in mentally ill like Aerys, but I do think she'll turn out to be very brutal and may eventually need to be killed.
      She's always been equal parts terrifying and inspiring. With her last chapter in ADWD it seems she's taking a turn towards terrifying - what with embracing the dragon aspect over the benevolent mother one.

    Great video as ever. George does like his War of the Roses parallels, when you spoke about Dany "coming into blood" so to speak, you need to remember that back then they gave birth very young. The mother of Henry Tudor, Margaret Beaufort was just 14 years old when she gave birth to him. It was so horrific an experience that she was never able to have anymore children. Very troubling, but the truth often is, I suppose. 😔
