Having Retro Studios work on 7 kinda explains why a track based on Donkey Kong Country Returns is a thing. It also explains Donkey Kong frequently playing Mario Kart as his idle animation in Tropical Freeze.

homebrew but in 7, they give you so little VR compared to 8 per race, even when you win. And coins are still capped at 10 max per race. Without a single player VS mode, this is impossible.
Poever I actually have the gold standard because when I got my 3DS in 2011, I got MK7 and it was the only game I had for a year straight. I played online everyday for basically a year lol. I was 10 then though, these days I definitely would not have time for that.

We all know it’s really there for technical reasons
Because the game is less fun without it. Somone gets ahead and then it's in essence over but you have to wait 10 mins to start the next race wich incress rage quits and dropouts. With blue shells things stay competitive till the last second. Making it unlikly to quit mid race.

I forgot how magical Mario Kart DS was. I was with my university marching band on a bus headed down several hours down the freeway to another school for a football game. Me and 7 other people brought a DS and only half of us had the game. Lucky there was download play. What a time that was to be alive, years before smartphones were conceived.
For the blue shell, just keep an eye on who has items... and when the blue shell is used, hit the breaks and go in reverse. If you pass by number 2 before the shell does... the shell hits number 2.
Which brings more sage advise... watch to see if the person in the lead is doing something to give you the lead for a small moment.

And as someone who does know what they’re doing in Mario Kart, it’s not unfair at all. Even if it is frustrating sometimes I’d rather people have a fair chance to beat me. Where’s the fun in winning all the time?

To be honest I can't see the difference
It's trying to show that they used the person's fan art by showing how alike Nintendo's model was to it.

I did some research and concluded that this fact is bullshit.
The sprite in question is apparently the Masked Man from Mother 3 (as seen on the right), and this guy changed 3 pixels a bit and uploaded it along with real fanart to deviant art. He never claimed it was his original work, he just used the original game art as a reference and uploaded it so that others could see it (on the left).
Now some worker at Nintendo used the slightly modified version for smash ultimate and some people on twitter actually thought the art from this warpstarx guy on deviant art was stolen, when really he never created it in the first place.
TL;DR:
Some guy uploaded the original masked man sprite with 3 modified pixels and then some fools thought Nintendo stole "fan art" that wasn't the fan's original creation.
It's a pixel on the helmet + two on the outline.
Context: Guy posted an image of the real sprite next to some fanart sprites. Turns out the "real" sprite he used was actually modified slightly. Nintendo used said sprite in-game. Modders even managed to reveal blank parts of the image which shows they actually cut out the real sprite from said picture, since other parts of the picture were present (but show as invisible).
Point is, they went on google to find the original sprite and used someone else's (modified) rip of the sprite. That's... wow. Just wow.

@@CactusJack it's an unofficial custom Nintendo wifi service for the Wii and DS. It was designed with Mario kart Wii in mind.
Good news for you, then. By changing the DNS server on your DS to something specific, I'm unsure which, you can connect to a Mario Kart DS wifi server again without any cartridge or hardware modifications.

They're 3D models converted to sprite form. Nintendo needed DK's newly created design that Rare created in order to keep his current look accurate.

I exploited the crap out of a glitch on the SNES. At 2:30, Luigi jumps as he hits the block of ice and instead of being pushed back or away from the wall, if your character model is moving upward in the air when you hit a wall you will be boosted forward instead of backward. Got me out of a lot of trouble around turns. But not recommended on Ghost Valley. It will likely boost you off the course

They did branch to other chars. Mario Kart Arcade GP features Pacman as a playable char as Namco made the arcade version of the game, and MKA GP Deluxe features Don-chan, the mascot from Namco's Taito drum games.

Always love hearing about what people can create with a set of limitations. Seems like a much better opportunity for creativity than some games nowadays which is just "lets throw millions of dollars into it and get the absolute best money can buy."
