I think personally for sake of arguing, considering the doors are rendered as to provide a loading area, the Boo in the garden is very much a like these doors and by providing the gateway to a level. By that a better rule would be: Entities (by which included objects in general) are immune if they impair a player's access to a level. Otherwise the door exception at the start would not be a legitimate exception either. The "boss's" however, are indeed a bit of a gray area, and for sake of fair play I would turn them into coins too, despite my wish for the run to be plausible. This brings light to one other exception: The general star container exception which had invoked the boss exception to begin with. Would this be fair to uphold as rule too. I'd say the direct container box is indeed just a star in disguise, so arguably it's a valid rule, but I'd be interested to know what others think of such a statement. Apart from that I believe the rules where pretty solid and thorough and I really enjoyed the video about the subject! :D
theres that one star in the igloo that was never covered as the bridge under it is an object i want to know why that star was skipped all together yet the donuts in rainbow ride is out of the run runing a star as they dont exist
Not all star containers are in the japanese version iirc, some stars were just laying out in the open instead. That being said, I agree the haunt should be considered a loading screen and thus an exception. However the fact that they had to make exceptions just to be able to play bowsers levels in the first place means that the run is impossible as far as I am concerned.
Personally, you could just see bosses as star containers that break in three hits. Also, im personally in favor of the mipps and toad star being included, because thay could be consodered star containers
@@alike2833 I think it is more about how the game classifies the different objects, rather than opinion. (Which, if that's the case, the donut blocks should be, for some reason, allowed.) Tbh, I feel that Mips and Star Toads should have been immune from the coin curse because they directly give you a star or spawn a star. It’s not like the penguin mom in that you need A and B to get a star from B. It’s just, grab or talk to and receive. Directly from the source. It’s like the Jolly Roger bay chests.
Genuine question, what's the difference between the penguin that spawns a star and "a boss that contains a star"? Like as far as game code is concerned? OP makes a great point here. There's a massive margin of interpretation here in what counts as object as far as the "bosses are exempt because" rule.
@@dreamerofthorns honestly, I think this is one of those things where even though effectively they are the same thing, codewise it could be completely different. Like for bosses they have a a bit of code that says “on death spawn star” where mips and the toads have a bit of code that says “if condition x is met, trigger event 7” and there is a separate line of code that says “event 7: if flag triggered, spawn star” But again, this is such a fickle grey area of a rule. Hope you have a lovely day friend!~
This is addressed at the end of the video again (although, in reference to the bosses). On the first pass of the rule set, Toad / Mips were classified as star spawners and not actual containers, whereas bosses exploding into a star were different. But I do agree - it should be all or nothing.
well,it was explained with the case of the mother penguin.this is a bad example in this case,as that explanation technicly says "hey, its a key and lock-kind of logic".and since toad does not need any interaction to spawn the star(in fact, not even mario interacts with him in a physical manner.mips has to be caught before he talks and spawns, but toad just spawns because he is nice)he should be immune.
@@lpfan4491 It was more so in comparison to the initial argument that if bosses are immune, who are star containers, shouldn't Mips and Toad be as well due to almost all star containers being immune. Some argue that both shouldn't be immune, and they should all be coins. The counter logic people have presented to that is that if Bowser is immune, who is a boss, shouldn't all bosses be? That's why the question at the end and how you calculate the rules yourself determine if the run can be completed or not. People can argue it a lot of different ways.
it depends on where you set the bar for glitches/exploits, they used a lot of warping with water and stuff for many of the levels but didn't go straight for bowser disregarding the 70 stars because they set that limit to themselves
But don't forget that turning all objects into coins makes certain parts of the Bowser levels impossible, so technically the game is not beatable even if you skip all the stars.
The descending final word in every sentence is so annoying. I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed. It’s like those people who end every sentence with an upward inflection where everything turns into a question.
37:40 Actually, that total should be 67 Stars, because if all bosses are coins, Fall onto the Caged Island isn't obtainable either, since you needed to use the Whomp King as a platform to reach it.
Hey, SwankyBox. I have a follow-up challenge idea for you. How many objects would need to be granted immunity from the coin transformation in order to obtain all 120 stars?
Less than you would imagine actually. It would mostly depend on how many objects a certain thing exists off(for example, I believe the tower after whomps exists out of multiple objects, and you need at least 3 of them to reach the top). Assuming all main structures are simply 1 object instead of multiple ones: You'd need about 45 objects that need immunity(averagely 1 per star and some spare ones for coins or red coins). It might even be less than that, I personally think the 100 coin star in bobomb battle field is still achievable with very precise BLJ's, for example. Not worth trying it, since you'll spend a longer time blj'ing than Pannen trying to do an A button challenge, but still feasable.
@@Aftertaste_ I'm guessing you hit the comments before watching the video. The end of the vid discusses how the rules probably should have not given immunity to bosses, even if they are star containers. King Thwomp was removed, and since they previously used him as a platform to get to the cage, that star should be unobtainable as well.
Q: "Is it Possible to Beat Super Mario 64 if Every Object is a Coin?" A: "Yes, if you don't turn objects into coins which would make it unbeatable." jk, great video ;)
It's explained at the beginning of the video. Anything that is a object is a coin. Only things that are not coins are enemies or boxes that contain a star. MIPS and toads are objects as they don't hold stars within. MIPS is an object that holds on to a star outside his model and the toads are literal objects, they don't have stars within their model, they just spawn in a star after you trigger their text box. Where as bosses and star boxes have the stars rendering inside them during the map, that's why they are not considered objects.
what about 26:58 .... an object was granted immunity "because its necessary" yes its possible if you grant immunity to everything that is necessary to win... obviously.
I'm also in the yes it's possible camp, for 1 the bosses are star containers and I dont think they should be excluded as he said they should in the video, that and those donuts, idk if I'd count them as objects since obviously whatever they did to transform the other objects didnt count that as one, also rip all toads, they will be missed
Peach: Mario! You saved me, thank you so much! Mario: Ssssshhh ssh Peach: what’s wrong Mario, I know it was hard work but it’s over now * kisses nose * Mario: everything was a coin... Peach: what was that? Mario: everything WAS A COIN
Alright, I am having a hard time understanding something. You clearly show that you had more than 70 stars at the end, but then you decide to examine the rules you gave at the beginning and start excluding some. Your condition I question here is "Star Container". Bosses are containers. Why would that change just because they are bosses? I can say the Donut Platforms are weird, but first of all, they are not classified as objects. Even if they were, we have already had levels with invisible collision. Even with these possibilities, the Donut Platform Objects are not required unless we absolutely need that one star. The one thing that bothers me most, you detailed that the Toads and Mips are not available. 15:20 has me thinking that you were going to explain this. But you didn't. What makes Mips any less than a Star Container? A task is needed, catching Mips, and the star spawns at that point. It doesn't unlock an area with the Star, and the Star isn't already spawned outside Mips. This is similar with the Toads. I believe the requirement is only to collect a certain amount of stars prior to talking to them? This is even worse when you fail to explain this reasoning, and then use this same instance to possibly remove Bosses. 37:14 is where it all falls into place. You say that due to Mips and Toads being removed, you then have to explain why bosses are immune. And then with Bosses removed, then you have to make a "special rule" for the Boo with access in the courtyard. But if there is no problem with Mips and Toads, there is no problem here. The one thing I would say is that while I do not have the game perfectly memorized, do any of the boss stars unlock other stars? That is a potential expansion on the problem. I know someone already said the Star in the cage that you have to jump off King Whomp, but are there others not loaded because the Boss Stars are not obtained? If anything, this question would not invalidate this run. The rules are clearly defined at the beginning and the result was a positive conclusion with only my question on the Mips/Toad stars that were not considered in this anyway. But it would be interesting to go over each level to check if the Boss Stars affect anything we didn't consider yet.
Basically. The argument is that the stars are inside the box/boss, while Toad/Mips pull them out of the air. As stated during the run, bosses are classified as a container and don't exist after they have been broken open for their sweet loot.
Aside from special stars that are only loaded for a specific scenario that doesn't exist outside of its chapter (like Koopa the Quick's races), all stars are obtainable on all chapters. If you DO collect a star from a chapter that comes after the chapter you are currently on, then that chapter becomes selectable. However, the chapters between the one you are currently on and the ones you've collected after it are not selectable. For example, if you are on chapter 1 and you collect chapter 3's star, chapter 2 is still unselectable. This means that the only way to unlock chapter 2 if chapter 2 is one of those special chapters (as is the case with Koopa the Quick in Bob-omb Battlefield) is the beat chapter 1. Thus, if you can't beat the boss in chapter 1 because it's a coin, then you can't do Koopa the Quick in chapter 2. All of this is, of course, meaningless. Because, even if you could, Koopa the Quick and his goalpost are coins. As is the case with all of these special scenarios that only load in their own chapter, I believe. So, it doesn't really matter if the boss stars would block off other chapters because the stars are either obtainable anyway or wouldn't have been regardless of selecting that chapter. I agree, though. It's very peculiar to have Toad and Mips be coins when they are basically star containers.
The difference isn't arbitrary, but rather dependant on how the -things- in question are classified within the game, if an object isn't a "container" in the game, then it isn't a container within this run.
And also klepto the bird because he does not work like the eel you can touch the star of the eel and cannot get the star of klepto without punching him

(Which, if that's the case, the donut blocks should be, for some reason, allowed.)
If I understand correctly, Mipps and Toads trigger stars to be spawned, rather than containing them. The star is probably shrunken down inside them to be literally "contained".
if bosses are included why no toad and mips
I would contemplate whether or not bosses should be included or if the ghost house boo should be included, but sadly my brain has become a coin so that's not possible.
@@Chad_Eldridge Boo could be considered a door or a star container as he does contain stars. But he needs the world so is it a penguin situation? As long as you can grab a star without depending on another object I believe the penguin rule shouldn't apply.

Infinite coins confirmed.
You either get infinite coins because every coin after 100 exceeds the 100 coin thresholds or you only get a total of 101 coins because the 100 coin threshold has already been accomplished.
Alternatively, if the 100 coin coin has a value of 100 coins, you could destroy the economy if every hundred coins gets you a 100 coin coin. If you get a 100 coin coin after collecting 100 coins, but no more coins from collecting 200 or more coins, you would have a total of 200 coins.

The whomp wasn't there to jump off of, so it counts. It's just the title of the star that includes whomp. So it still counts as a star. Going by the Whomp logic then bowser's Submarine star shouldn't count, the star for riding the under water dinosaur shouldn't count either. monster

Like for bosses they have a a bit of code that says “on death spawn star” where mips and the toads have a bit of code that says “if condition x is met, trigger event 7” and there is a separate line of code that says “event 7: if flag triggered, spawn star”

Deleting toad and mips stars is unfair as they hold stars imo
The counter logic people have presented to that is that if Bowser is immune, who is a boss, shouldn't all bosses be? the game can be beaten with 0 stars. meaning no matter how few stars you can collect, it is still beatable
it depends on where you set the bar for glitches/exploits, they used a lot of warping with water and stuff for many of the levels but didn't go straight for bowser disregarding the 70 stars because they set that limit to themselves
But don't forget that turning all objects into coins makes certain parts of the Bowser levels impossible, so technically the game is not beatable even if you skip all the stars.

@@Predated2 Interesting. Does that count include all of the objects that were already granted immunity in this run?
If you subtract king thwomp you have to take out the cage star because you can't get to the star without him.

Why aren’t MIPS and the Toads considered Star containers?
It's explained at the beginning of the video. Anything that is a object is a coin. Only things that are not coins are enemies or boxes that contain a star. MIPS and toads are objects as they don't hold stars within. MIPS is an object that holds on to a star outside his model and the toads are literal objects, they don't have stars within their model, they just spawn in a star after you trigger their text box. Where as bosses and star boxes have the stars rendering inside them during the map, that's why they are not considered objects.

But it would be interesting to go over each level to check if the Boss Stars affect anything we didn't consider yet.
dang, that is a LONG comment, but i do agree
The only differentiating factor I can think of is that the ! Blocks and Bosses are destroyed to spawn their Stars, while Toads and Mips are not.
Can we talk about how memeable this is?
No; but even if we could, it would be a coin.
Sadly,my vocal cords don’t contain stars, and thus they have turned into coins
YES! Memes are very important
29:18 How Textureless Mario Anomy started
I think the mips rabbit and castle toads would qualify as star containers, so they should be immune to coinage.
And also klepto the bird because he does not work like the eel you can touch the star of the eel and cannot get the star of klepto without punching him
*We’ve gone too far*
Here's a fun game:
Every time he says "star" or "coin" take a shot
F
OK!!!!!! *proceeds to insert multiple medicine shots into body* I am now invincible.
Instructions unclear, I'm now dead
Every time this guy says "coin, object or star take a shot.
Not alcohol, 9mm. (bullet bill)
I would be dead, but when I tried to take a shot it'd be a coin
Big Boo's Haunt is fine because the boo technically counts as a star container because there are stars in the level and the level is inside the boo.
God I can hear Nico and Ceave screaming in the distance
Nathaniel Bandy screams "There's no way I'll be able to collect all the coins!"
No those are frogs
The way you narrate it and the background music make it seem like Mario is stuck in a coin limbo, quite literally alone, in empty worlds filled with stars and coins.
Is Peach a coin?
If she is, that's objectification. /s
Yes
yes
The coin princess kisses mario and he transform into a beautiful coin.
Come to the castle. I've baked you a coin.
