Higurashi is about friendship and trust. It has gore but in the end, if you don't watch KAI you don't get the full story. Most of them fall into madness, and forget true morals and end up dying 1 by 1. In KAI they manage to break through their gruesome fate with friendship and with trust. So Higurashi IS the true embodiment of friendship and trust.
I don't think a lot of people know this and neither did you because I checked in audacity, but the chant in the beginning is actually a small part from the second intro "Naraku no Hana" played backwards. The subliminal message says 'Nigeranai' which means 'you can't escape'. Yay spooks!

Though her voice isn't as strong as AmaLee's, her cover's still really good but the parts where they say 'you can't escape' backwards in Japanese (I have absolutely no idea how to spell it) was obviously from the original song in Jayn's video but other than that, it's all Jayn. Also, another great full cover of the song is by Dima Lancaster. His cover is absolutely amazing just like Jayn's, and his is a little more unique as he replaces the backwards Japanese with "You just cannot escape" which surprisedly works really well. Both of them came out before AmaLee's cover did, and I highly recommend checking out those covers as well.

Fanboy Bryant It sounds like you skipped an episode or something. However, I can confirm that the first few episodes of Kai were a bit more confusing than the rest of the show. It goes back towards the original ~4 episode loop again, don't worry.
Fanboy Bryant Definitely. Season 2 is the answer to season 1. It explains SO much. Its definitely worth it, though a few episodes, like the first one if I remember right, were kinda unnecessary. Like, they do have important things in them, but it still felt skippable. Now, season 3 and season 4... I haven't watched them, but I'm pretty sure they're not horror. They're just slice of life with the same characters, which could be enjoyable, but definitely not the same.
Higurashi has some of the best songs. Higurashi no naku koro ni, Why or Why Not, Naraku no Hana, Taishou A, Superscription of Data, and Manazashi. Also, who could forget Dear You and all the versions of You? Other than Lilium, Dear You is uncontested as my favourite song ever.
Gareth Lamb do you know of any of the songs from Umineko no Naku Koro Ni? Because if you like Higurashi’s music you’ll probably love Umineko’s as well. Check them out! Look up “Thank you for Being Born” “Hope” “Tsubasa” and basically the whole soundtrack. If you get interested in the story read the sound novel because the anime did not do it justice.
jigSAW1059 I would say it’s a mystery anime with psychological horror overtones. It does get really creepy and bad things happen but the story is definitely not only about the horror. The horror draws you into the rest of the plot.
Clarification may be required well actually... The anime leaves a lot of important details out from the visual novel plus that series is actually made by the same company who made Higurashi... I tried to watch it but it ended leaving me confused at certain parts... But I read the wiki on it and went well into full detail of how the story goes...

I love how both When They Cry Higurashi (When They Cry 1-2) and Umineko (When They Cry 3-4) have a main meaning throughout the story which is for Higurashi it is the word "Friend" (Trusting Friend) and for Umineko it is the word "Love" (Without Love Magic Cannot be Seen).
Tag is not only in the promised neverland , there are plenty of other animes and songs where they play this game , people even play it in real life , not only in the promised never land .

If anyone here hasn't seen this, and you like horror, you should watch this. it *looks* all bright, happy and cute in the beginning. Trust me, it's not. Also, don't watch the dub. As a dub fan, i'll tell you that it is absolutely horrible.
hunter peck I actually find that the dub does a better job in the beginning in season 1. Japanese voice actors pick up really well in season 2 and beyond tho
Also, if you like Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, check out Umineko No Naku Koro Ni. It's an amazing VN and manga, the story is one of the best I've ever read. It also has its fair share if horror and gore, but it's, first of all, a battle between the mystery genre and the fantasy genre. The characters are all amazing and the dub is really good. (There's also an anime but it's really not that good,they forgot a lot of details and were not able to continue the story. But the OP is amazing,it's called "Katayoku No Tori")

I hope they adapt meakashi based more in the novel. In the novel the dead of Shion was depressing and sad. And one of my favourite soundtracks: confession, is in that scene.

I came here because I heard Amalee was the vocals on Porter Robinson's Fellow Feeling. This is the first time I've heard this beloved song in english and I'm proud of finding it. Higurashi was my favorite sound novel and this OP was closer to my heart than any other. Thank you for giving me the chance to hear in English.
To be honest, I'm actually surprised to see a cover of this OP after so many years, but not bad. It does, however, lack some of the overall edge of the original. Maybe, that's a bad way to phrase it, but the cover version lacks that threatening sharpness of the original that marks the psychotic paranoid urgency the series was known for and original OP gave voice to. By contrast, there's just something softer and less threatening with this rendition. Not bad, just... I'm not sure how to describe what it's lacking exactly. Still, good piece overall.
Nightxx9199 Something like that, yeah. The music arrangement is, imo, more the issue I think. I mean, the lyrics themselves are fine. But, soft. What really softens the overall piece is the music itself. The cover just loses oomph and that tension. That dread.... like you pointed out. Like, when I listen to the original, I get the sense that Rena's gonna hack me to pieces with her cleaver, or that Keichi's gonna bash my brains in with the bent bat. I have no idea when, how or why... but I know it's gonna happen. The tension ratchets, and a chill runs down my spine. Here, I don't feel that. It's softer and not very sharp... and the tension's just not there. At best, I'll get spooked, maybe...but not likely. It's like that, I guess.

But even with original opening animation, I felt like that cuteness juxtaposed really nicely with how twisted the whole affair really was. In my mind, that dissonance created a far darker image of what was going on and hammered in that tensioned sense of uneasiness. I just don't feel or see that in this cover.. The cover's sofness clashes a bit too much with the animation and kinda ruins it for me. Plus, the color scheme and key feels too soft and light to make me feel any real tension. It's pretty and well done, but I don't feel the murder in it it... it's just pretty.
Its interesting to hear someone sing a English version of it. Loved the VN series and anime for it. The song is also a perfect match for the series. Its a really great series that I would recommend to others.

I watched one cover where the person pronounced it kiss-ay-das. Really great voice, but that drove me crazy. Still liked the cover overall, it just hurt the immersion factor. I'd dose off, almost fall asleep. Then I'd hear kiss-ay-da, groan, and wake up.
Besides the original Japanese version of this song this is by far the best version of when they cry theme I've ever heard if they ever remake higuarshi in hd the English version should pay you guys to sings this opening fantastic job

I love how both When They Cry Higurashi (When They Cry 1-2) and Umineko (When They Cry 3-4) have a main meaning throughout the story which is for Higurashi it is the word "Friend" (Trusting Friend) and for Umineko it is the word "Love" (Without Love Magic Cannot be Seen).

If anyone here hasn't seen this, and you like horror, you should watch this. it *looks* all bright, happy and cute in the beginning. Trust me, it's not. Also, don't watch the dub. As a dub fan, i'll tell you that it is absolutely horrible.
hunter peck I actually find that the dub does a better job in the beginning in season 1. Japanese voice actors pick up really well in season 2 and beyond tho

Also, if you like Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, check out Umineko No Naku Koro Ni. It's an amazing VN and manga, the story is one of the best I've ever read. It also has its fair share if horror and gore, but it's, first of all, a battle between the mystery genre and the fantasy genre. The characters are all amazing and the dub is really good.
(There's also an anime but it's really not that good,they forgot a lot of details and were not able to continue the story. But the OP is amazing,it's called "Katayoku No Tori")

Higurashi is one of my favourite series ever, and I am so SO appreciative of this cover. I never thought a good English cover of this song would appear. There's no words to express how much I love this song. I will still listen to this years from now.

I came here because I heard Amalee was the vocals on Porter Robinson's Fellow Feeling. This is the first time I've heard this beloved song in english and I'm proud of finding it. Higurashi was my favorite sound novel and this OP was closer to my heart than any other. Thank you for giving me the chance to hear in English.
To be honest, I'm actually surprised to see a cover of this OP after so many years, but not bad.
It does, however, lack some of the overall edge of the original.
Maybe, that's a bad way to phrase it, but the cover version lacks that threatening sharpness of the original that marks the psychotic paranoid urgency the series was known for and original OP gave voice to.
By contrast, there's just something softer and less threatening with this rendition.
Not bad, just... I'm not sure how to describe what it's lacking exactly.
Still, good piece overall.

The music arrangement is, imo, more the issue I think.
I mean, the lyrics themselves are fine.
But, soft. What really softens the overall piece is the music itself.
The cover just loses oomph and that tension. That dread.... like you pointed out.
Like, when I listen to the original, I get the sense that Rena's gonna hack me to pieces with her cleaver, or that Keichi's gonna bash my brains in with the bent bat. I have no idea when, how or why... but I know it's gonna happen. The tension ratchets, and a chill runs down my spine.
Here, I don't feel that.
It's softer and not very sharp... and the tension's just not there.
At best, I'll get spooked, maybe...but not likely.
It's like that, I guess.

Well, I was just talking about the song itself.
But even with original opening animation, I felt like that cuteness juxtaposed really nicely with how twisted the whole affair really was.
In my mind, that dissonance created a far darker image of what was going on and hammered in that tensioned sense of uneasiness.
I just don't feel or see that in this cover.. The cover's sofness clashes a bit too much with the animation and kinda ruins it for me. Plus, the color scheme and key feels too soft and light to make me feel any real tension.
It's pretty and well done, but I don't feel the murder in it it... it's just pretty.
