This was the first scary anime i ever watched. And I was in tears, terrified out of my mind. Then I realised it was only episode 4. how does it continue? so glad i kept watching.
I started watching this. Cue power out, everything becomes completely dark and quiet. Power comes back after A while. I continue watching. Cue power out again. Why it gotta be like this?

@@touchingisjustthefirststep It's not just the characters shocking ways to die. The anime is about psychological destruction. How relationships between people can twist into hideous ways, the feeling of dispair and an unstoppable terrible fate lurking to you.
@@touchingisjustthefirststep it was less fnaf style scary and more "wow I actually have to think about every single thing that just went down" scary -some video I watched
Uh, just wanted to point out that there are more than 20 versions of "You" (known mostly as "Dear you" here in the west), and the version used on Higurashi Kaku was just one of those, not even the original one. It was "You Spiegel" if I recall correctly.
I remember my higurashi days, huddling around my lap top going episode to episode wondering if this would be the time everyone would survive, what a ride.
Look up the great songs in psychological horror. They tend to not be threatening and intense but filled with peaceful despair and vulnerability. The calmness accents the horror because horror does not mean fear, it means intense negative emotions. This song in particular is about how easy and cruelly comforting it is to just let go and become another that has been spirited away by ogres
What's more is that it uses the gore for a psychological purpose not a gross out purpose. Hellsing Ultimate and Elfen Lied tend to go overboard with the gore for gore's sake. Higurashi.....and by extension Umineko, both utilize gore for a psychological reason. In fact I dare say that they both kick Boogiepop Phantom into next Tuesday in terms of horror and psychological thriller.
The anime is too good to not watch it! You just have to. It's pretty old but still a masterpiece and one of the only anime that I really re-watched for more than 4 times. It has a really dark vibe that is getting pushed by music like this.
@@nadeen6675 higurashi no nako koro ni It is confusing at the beginning, but as you uncover more and more of the story the plot becomes clear and you can see the relations between the characters.
@@komoz4616 Eh, the masterpiece label tends to be overused, and calling something mid tier is even more subjective. That said, there's a reason this anime is a classic and one of the most acclaimed horror anime. If you're a big anime fan, there are 2 iconic things from Higurashi that you've probably been exposed to. One is the iconic shot of Rena behind the door with her face half-obscured. The other is the song Dear You. This is mid-2000s Studio DEEN, so expect the animation to be rough, and fans of the original VN complained that important things were left out of the adaptation. However, it excels at building up the horror atmosphere and the mysteries (really only the first season). The way new bits of information provide context and change your understanding of earlier scenes work very well. Be prepared to for what you think you know about the plot and characters to get shaken up.
I know nobody asked, but I just really wanted to say this This video got in my recommended feed in around mid 2020 I have never heard about Higurashi before, I just clicked the video out of boredom randomly and I really liked the vibe of this melody, it's mysteriousness, so I became a little bit intrigued about what is the context for this melody was. I scrolled through a comment section a bit, and after reading some inside jokes I didn't get at the time about nails, I decided to give this show a try. I watched the entirety of the Anime in like two days and I liked it so much, I then read original VN and recently finished reading Umineko. And this whole journey was started by this video and TH-cam algorithm gods. I can't express how greatful I am to this video for sharing this beautiful story with me, Higurashi is easily my favorite story til this very day, I am still super-obsessed with it and most likely it will stay that way. Thanks so much for this video. For anyone of you who are still contemplating whether you should or should not invest time in this story, you absolutely should. You will not regret it. Also, read original VN with voice acting instead of watching anime. Anime has a very different vibe and most of the suspense and horror is gone. Also go as blind as possible into the story. Then you should give Umineko a try too. ♥
Higurashi will always have a pedestal in the horror genre. I recently re watched the series and honestly it had a lot of psychological horror as well as general horror. Some episodes were dull but the more you got into it the more on the edge of your seat you were. Some of the last episodes made my hands sweat. Nothing ever really hit like Higurashi.
This cover is absolutely amazing. I stumbled across this video sometime last year and had no clue what Higurashi was. I was curious and watched the show and I regret nothing. It's a phenomenal show and its top 5 for me. I also became interested in piano so now I'm learning how to play. All I gotta say is thank you fellow weeb for inspiring me :)
I can still hear the humming in my head while the piano plays... one of the most unsettling themes out there in horror. It sounds inviting at first then it just becomes sinister as it plays on loop. “Welcome to Hinamizawa” they said 😈
Between this song and the lilium cover from elfen lied, you have most definitely captured the essence of the two anime and transcribed it into your covers. If there were medals for this kinda thing, theyd have to make a higher tier medal just for you!
Hauntingly beautiful. Wish I could play the piano like that. Sometimes I picture playing stuff like this when the music teacher let us play the piano back in the day.
Lol, I watched this video long time ago and was like: ok. Now Higurashi is one of my favourite anime and my heart started screaming when I've seen a thumbnail.
This song is beguiling. It tries to lull you into lowering your guard with its beauty and false sense of calm and security. And that's exactly what true horror tries to do to you. Higurashi is a masterpiece, especially the first season.
This is beautifully haunting. Im sad how much this song seems to resonate. The somber sound with the sinister undertone building into chaos and then starting over in the last 10 seconds.. just like every horrifying loop.
PianoDeuss you are a legend, it sounds so good that it will be perfect for a haunted house or a Halloween party and ill give your music cover of 'Ai Main Theme' a 10/10.
Spoiler for Higurashi I still feel bad for Rika. Her living for 200 years of straight murder, violence and despair is truly the worst type of torture imaginable
I havent watched the anime yet but DAMMN this piece is so LIT! I am looking forward to watch it even more now! (I watched shiki thanks to its osts and wow that show was great! I hope this one will be too)

Another word of advice. Don't anger Rhena in any of those timelines.
Man, I actually feel as if Higurashi is underrated these days.
it truly is
i actually think its more hyped then it was back then
@@michit7125 nah. I was selling at a convention and I didn't sell a lot of my higurashi merch, which surprised me considering the new anime. It was definitely more talked about and mainstream when the first anime came out. Now it feels like a niche series.
I remember that back in 2014 people would talk about This anime quite a bit still
But i think the anime culture from back then is vastly different than it is now

This was the first scary anime i ever watched. And I was in tears, terrified out of my mind. Then I realised it was only episode 4. how does it continue? so glad i kept watching.
i made the mistake of watching this at night under my blankets by myself....i swear i am still scared

I started watching this. Cue power out, everything becomes completely dark and quiet.
Power comes back after A while. I continue watching. Cue power out again. Why it gotta be like this?
OOF, I feel you man. I somehow survived watching it all at night under my sheets, of course I had trouble getting up to go to the bathroom afterwards😂💁🏼♂️
So beautiful, such a haunting theme. Higurashi’s music is so memorable. Hope this theme returns in the upcoming reboot
This was the only anime that made me cry
Of fear
same.
I saw it when I was 7, I was a child to whom reality and fantasy could be considered inseperable, I had grabbed and held to my chest my father's smith and Wesson 7 inch blade, praying such a thing could not exist in this life. It freaked out the parents, i slept outside wide awake because the rain had been going for hours I watched the worms crawl up out of the door and sobbed like a man going to his execution . Parents see it and realized that out of sight out of mind parenting is actually super harmful, and took a child's sense of worth away. They learned their lesson, traumatised kids need hugs

This is a beautifully-haunting rendition of the original. Awesome job!
1:53 i dont know anything related to the higurashi series, but this part just gives me goosebumps.
I have a new anime to watch now
Never expected to randomly find an excellently played "Ai" on recommended. I was not able to find any proper piano arrangement of this piece for years, love ya
I like how this song goes from calm to crazy in a question of seconds, just like Rena.
Higurashi Sotsu, can't wait.
And that's why Rena's always the "face" of Higurashi.
Higurashi is only "scary" anime that is actually somehow scary
The first and second arcs especially were absolutely chilling.
Thomas King “LIAR” that part made me jump so hard I grew 2ft
It honestly wasn't scary to me just a huge shock factor of characters dying violently.
@@touchingisjustthefirststep It's not just the characters shocking ways to die. The anime is about psychological destruction. How relationships between people can twist into hideous ways, the feeling of dispair and an unstoppable terrible fate lurking to you.
@@touchingisjustthefirststep it was less fnaf style scary and more "wow I actually have to think about every single thing that just went down" scary
-some video I watched
Oh I remember when I was watching the second season of this and this soundtrack started, it was always the darkest and most tense moments.
Can you play “Dear You”, the ending of Higurashi: Outbreak?
Yes, I plan to play this theme.
PianoDeuss can you also play Higurashi - Monogatari?
Uh, just wanted to point out that there are more than 20 versions of "You" (known mostly as "Dear you" here in the west), and the version used on Higurashi Kaku was just one of those, not even the original one.
It was "You Spiegel" if I recall correctly.
Higurashi! Ahh those were the days. Still remember watching it being fun slice of life at first and then becoming life being sliced next.
I remember my higurashi days, huddling around my lap top going episode to episode wondering if this would be the time everyone would survive, what a ride.
Hearing this makes me remember the torture happened in each episodes. Still makes me shivering.😥
I can't believe this is a horror song, it's so relaxing
It's not exactly fear what the song tries to transmit, but despair.
You've got a wierd comprehension of music
You should search up the original
its beautiful ..
Bro I loved this song so much whenever it played in the original show. So glad to see it finally being brought back to life
*I remember watching higurashi young, and being traumatized,so now I’m basically used to gore :p*
The anime rlly nailed it out in the park :D
What's more is that it uses the gore for a psychological purpose not a gross out purpose. Hellsing Ultimate and Elfen Lied tend to go overboard with the gore for gore's sake. Higurashi.....and by extension Umineko, both utilize gore for a psychological reason. In fact I dare say that they both kick Boogiepop Phantom into next Tuesday in terms of horror and psychological thriller.
haha, 'nailed'
I got freaked out when I realized that there are eyes on the side

The anime is too good to not watch it! You just have to. It's pretty old but still a masterpiece and one of the only anime that I really re-watched for more than 4 times. It has a really dark vibe that is getting pushed by music like this.
@@morgurathemightyone8266 So what's its name ?
@@nadeen6675 higurashi no nako koro ni
It is confusing at the beginning, but as you uncover more and more of the story the plot becomes clear and you can see the relations between the characters.
@@morgurathemightyone8266 I hope you arnt just calling some mid tier a masterpiece, I cant take people's word anymore but I'll consider it.
I know nobody asked, but I just really wanted to say this
This video got in my recommended feed in around mid 2020
I have never heard about Higurashi before, I just clicked the video out of boredom randomly and I really liked the vibe of this melody, it's mysteriousness, so I became a little bit intrigued about what is the context for this melody was.
Higurashi was a rollercoaster so will avoid the vn andU finished umineko vn?
the original anime is great and keeps the vibe, the pacing of the vn on the other hand is too slow
Higurashi had dull episodes? Perhaps you aren't paying enough atention

Higurashi is my favorite horror story. Period.
This cover is absolutely amazing. I stumbled across this video sometime last year and had no clue what Higurashi was. I was curious and watched the show and I regret nothing. It's a phenomenal show and its top 5 for me. I also became interested in piano so now I'm learning how to play. All I gotta say is thank you fellow weeb for inspiring me :)
boy you've seen every anime i've seen it's getting kind of creepy but in the same time i'm loving all theses midis files for my favorite songs !
I can still hear the humming in my head while the piano plays... one of the most unsettling themes out there in horror. It sounds inviting at first then it just becomes sinister as it plays on loop.
“Welcome to Hinamizawa” they said 😈
Careful the government doesn't use you for secret experimentation. :P
listening this thing while playing a survival in a apocalyptic world game is just makes atmosphere epic !
Between this song and the lilium cover from elfen lied, you have most definitely captured the essence of the two anime and transcribed it into your covers. If there were medals for this kinda thing, theyd have to make a higher tier medal just for you!
I'll say this in red:
*Higurashi is one of the scariest mind-boggling anime ever.*
