I found this vintage $40 sewing cabinet at the thrift store about 10 years ago but never could make a decision about whether I wanted to paint it or strip and stain it. I finally made a decision: I was going to do both! Follow along as I show you how I took this dreary sewing cabinet and turned it into a pretty piece of furniture for my "she shed" workshop and creative studio!

Argh need this. My husband diy the kitchen and learning as he goes.
I am a wood person and when I saw the wood that you cleaned and sanded. BEAUTIFUL!!! but then when you painted and glued the covering and paint to the cabinet, I could have cried. Covering that beautiful wood. Now if it had flaws and couldn'e be restored, I understand making something out of it, but wood in it's natural form should have been shown/ Just mt thought. It did look cute but wood is better looking.
You taught me so much, today. I've known for a while that there is colored stain, I thought that was crazy. However, I didn't know that there was a grain wax.
When you added the paper to the edges, it elevated the piece. I can see myself doing something like that. I can't wait to see the other pink furniture you are planning for your she shed

The cabinet is gorgeous- well done! I have to admit, I held my breathe when I saw that pink stain, but was happily surprised at the end. I love how you kept the grain visible.

Me, I loved the wood finish of the oak, but you have given it a gorgeous re-do which I also love, and it appeals to the feminine heart!
I don't love the pink or floral wallpaper, but i love that you did it! I've always been a huge proponent of personalizing furniture and decor in ways that suite your style. Its your house, fill it with things you love! The methods in this DIY are still quite useful for anyone trying to personalize their own piece of furniture.

I wish I could find treasure like that at my local thrift stores. I can remember longing for one of those cabinets back in the mid-90's when I worked at a fabric shop.

When I was 18 me and my aunt found a sewing table on the side of the road and I painted it and used it as a desk! I completely forgot about that till I saw this 😂

I bought a sewing cabinet very like yours in 1985 with an Elna Jubilee machine in it. I loved it! The pink with floral gave your cabinet a lovely updated look.

This is a beautiful piece. It inspired me to finish painting a wheeled vintage tray table that I thrifted about 5 years ago. I hadn't painted it because I like the wood, but this stain is amazing. Thank you.

Watched your video a week or so ago and just so happened to be in Goodwill that weekend and found a sewing machine cabinet for $9.99 with military green " White" sewing machine inside. It's missing some parts so I will most likely replace it. I have always wanted to learn to sew and love DIY projects!

I think it's ridiculously OTT but also shouldn't any craft cabinet reflect the personality and style of the crafter. What a wonderful way to bring that beauty back to life for your space.

Nice job, interesting technique with the coloured stain and liming wax. Colour scheme's not quite my taste - but you do you! 🙂
I use Polycrylic to finish my paper beads!

I love how the flora paper complements the pink stain. (Pink is my favorite color)
It looks pretty! I don't think the grain shows well on camera after painting, but I trust you that it does show. Definitely a bright and cheery piece!

Do you know if translucent acrylic inks would work through an airbrush to create a similar effect? Ive got a few bits of old furniture kicking about and now Im kinda in the mood to get some changes going! Looks great and I completely agree on having the grain showing, its such a nice effect!
Oooh, I'm not sure about the acrylic inks. That sounds like something fun to try! I imagine if would, especially if you can get an even finish without the blotchiness. Thank you for watching!
