    Due to many comments here questioning the sense of the "self charging" hybrid I want to make a few things clear you did not mention in your video.
    The main advantages of a "self loading" hybrid concept with a small buffering battery vs. a so called "plug in hybrid" are:
    - independence of rare (and powerful) charging stations
    - predestining the car for longer overland trips,
    - less weight (bc. no heavy battery needed),
    - maximization of energy use and reuse.
    If you drive a RAV4 Hybrid you will notice that the battery will be reloaded whenever you slow down, press the brake or move downhill. This is called recuperation and is the key to the engine's fuel efficiency. You will save brake pads as a side effect.
    For me this is the most coherent concept until research and political developments will provide us with enough charging infrastructure and an an H2 infrastructure for fuel cell cars.

    • @trespasser121
      @trespasser121 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      But if you drive a lot in snow, for example, and need AWD constantly, won't you eventually run out of charge, so rear wheels lose power?

    • @audiveritas
      @audiveritas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trespasser No problem, because the fuel engine will always keep the battery charged up to a certain level if there is no recuperation energy available.

    I’ve driven one and if you drive in eco and aren’t flooring it for max acceleration all the time you can get 50 mpg, it charges from braking too, it basically recycles what is normally wasted energy, such as braking, and from coasting and whenever the petrol engine comes on. It’ll do 45+MPG all day long on petrol (cheaper than diesel these days) £135 a year road tax (£250 in my equal sized diesel engined car) but a Plug In Hybrid Vehicle will do 20 miles on pure EV then 20MPG there after, if you don’t know how it works educate yourself or go and test drive one! Don’t just go and call it bs marketing, Toyota have to call it self charging these days because of all the other brands sticking a battery in the car (that you have to plug in) and call it a Hybrid, Toyota Pioneered Hybrids with the Prius 20 Years ago, they didn’t need plugging in then and still don’t they’re just two decades ahead of the other car makers jumping on Hybrid tech now

      I own an Active Style 4wd. Did a test driving with the cruise control set to +5km/h (3mph) over the speed limit. I was down on 5,4l/100km. Makes it roughly 43,5mpg.This was on a 30min drive on a pretty bad road. Speed limit ranged from 80km/h (~50mph) to 60km/h (~40mph). Driving economically without the cruise control, I would imagine you could push it quite a bit.

    • @Zogin_EPICH
      @Zogin_EPICH 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The highway is a completely different story. 6,5l/100km (36mpg) while driving 110-120km/h (70-75mph) has been the result so far.

Don't be fooled, everything about a "gray" and "black" interior screams unpainted, colorless, lifeless, budget-saving parts while you fork over 30-40 grand. Good for THEM (the company), bad value for YOU (the consumer). It's like buying an unpainted Green Power Ranger action figure. "Color is so badass" why, because it's unpainted? COME ON!!

    I am going to disagree with you about the C-HR because they have very little in common at the front infavtvtge C-HR has the button more design of the previous Rav4. The Rav4 design language is supposed to be the in keeping with tgere larger suv and pickup models The Tacoma, Tundra, new hi-lux and land cruiser 200 ( which sadly we do not get in the U.K.)
    The Rav4 is The meant to represent the introduction to these vehicle. Where the C-HR is very much a cuv and it design language is more in keeping with there car range. This was confirmed by Toyota design team in the USA.
    I totally agree with Toyota there is no C-HR design language is in the New Rav4 the old rav4 yes. In think your trying very hard to see something that's both there.
    When you where asked to explain why you felt it look like the C-HR you didn't you talked about the lines of the new design language for larger suv and pickups you made no comparison to C-HR so I do not understand your co host comments.
    Your design eye is very poor it got nothing of the sort, other than being flat from the window down like most other sub tgere no resemblance if anything the new korando share a look with Toyota not the other way.

      The Self Charging marketing phrase is an attempt by Toyota to suggest that plug-in cars are at a disadvantage. Nothing could be further from the truth. Having the gas engine charge the battery is inefficient, costly, and more polluting. Most plug-in vehicles have double the mpg rating of a pure hybrid, are less expensive to operate, less polluting, and when charged at home eliminate gas station wasted time.

      Maybe you need to look up the definition of hybrid. For cars, it is a mix of internal combustion and electric drive. They are not calling it a self charging EV, they are differentiating it from PHEVs (although it does smack of marketing BS). I do wish Toyota would offer more of their vehicles as PHEVs though.
