Fun fact: in Black 2 and White 2, there’s a Hiker around Skyla’s Gym that will offer you his Gigalith for your Emolga. Since there’s a Boldore-for-Emolga trade in the first games, the popular theory is that this Hiker is giving you the Boldore you traded him in the base game, now evolved.
@@leanbeast1105 I actually like when the game let you have pokemon with the trade evolution method without actually trading so this guy will always be appreciated
You should have mentioned Ghosuke the Haunter from Cerulean City in Pokemon Ao (Japanese Blue), you trade a Machoke in exchange for a Haunter that immediately evolves into Gengar. You could also trade Kadabra for Saburo the Graveler on Cinnabar Island in that game. Because of Jynx being found in the wild the man who traded it gives the Haunter Trade in Japanese Blue. The guy who gives you the underleveled Electrode in Red & Green does the trade to give you Graveler in Blue. The only of the 4 Gen 1 Trade Evos who wasn't offered by in game trade was Kadabra.
There is actually a subreddit dedicated to hating Mindy and her Haunter w/ Everstone. I would list it but it doesn't use kind words. Exactly what she deserves.

I believe that Mr. Mime IS in fact superior to Kadabra for a gen 1 playthrough do to the fact that it is a traded pokemon, so it will level up faster which offsets the slight discrepency in speed and special, and it is bulkier. Additionally, it is useable immediately, whereas Abra needs to be switch trained or raised in the daycare until it comes online at level 16
I love Mr. Mime. A lot of people write it off as a Pokémon that you use when you can't trade for Alakazam, which is kind of true. For an in-game playthrough, though, Psychic, Thunderbolt, and Magical Leaf can tear through Kanto and can perform admirably in Sinnoh (yes, I know Sinnoh does not have Mr. Mime as an in-game trade).
I like how you can trade a boldore for an Emolga in BW and then the same guy trades you a Gigalith B2W2. Would've been even cooler if it kept its OT with memory link
You know at some point GameFreak is going to give pokemon a small chance to be affected by attract of the same gender and immune to ones of a different gender and also some that will always be affected by attract
@@TheHappyRat They shouldn't do it as an ability just a random number like with what makes Wurmple either become Silcoon or Cascoon. LMAO I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING! In Omega Ruby, I had a Hariyama named Makit. I left the game for a while and when I recently finally came back to it and beat it, I thought I named it that. I’ve been naming all of my Hariyamas “Makit” because I thought past me came up with it, but apparently I just traded for it and didn’t realize
18:17 Ah yes, Thumper the Steelix. I remember young me doing that trade, and that steelix was one of my best party members. Now, whenever I find a female onix or steelix, I name them Thumper.
I was recently doing an X nuzlocke, and my Frogadier had just died. I had nothing else strong against rock outside of my newly caught luvdisc. Then I talked to the Steelix trade trainer. It saved my run then, and he’s still alive and on my team 4 gyms later.
grant sucks, I’m doing a sort of thing (in Pokémon X) where I pick what 6 Pokémon I want before I start and I’m not aloud to catch anything else till I beat the game, I’m stuck on the rock gym with five team members which I didn’t realize until too late, were all weak to grants Pokémon except for my under leveled bagon Team: Flicker the braixen Neon the pikachu Spore the ivysaur Soda Pop the bagon And Glimmer the amaura The last team member I’m getting is going to be a Lapras, I’m going to use the gift lapras to catch my own lapras so I can nickname it but I can’t get lapras till after the third gym so I’m stuck grinding for now
Only in Fire Red and Leaf Green does this work well. Psychic plus Magical Leaf plus Shock Wave/Thunderbolt makes a great special sweeper. Too bad Shadow Ball is a physical move in these games; otherwise adding that would make Mr. Mime *basically* perfect.
Apparently, he thought about it for only a second, because in the current state system, Mr. Mime is better than Kadabra, but if you can do trades to evolve pokemon, you will want to keep Kadabra.
Wait until you learn about the trade of Machoke for Haunter that takes place in Japanese Blue that really should have been mentioned in the video. Ghosuke evolves into Gengar as soon as you get it from the man who trades you Jinx in Red & Green. There's a similar trade for a Graveler that becomes a Golem in the same game on Cinnabar Island.
Little does she know, my clefable knows Moonblast and Baby hates horrible disgusting demented monstrosities like Mindy and loves me more than anything in the world. Baby is the name of my Clefairy/Clefable, I always go for a female one cuz it just feels more fitting, not a sexist thing

I want to buy a second Nintendo Switch for extra Joy Cons and also to get Scizor and Alakazam more easily. Now Scizor and Alakazam are available as wandering Pokemon but to breed a good IV trade evolution I have to own two systems and Pokemon Sword. (I have Pokemon Shield and I ignored an easy to handle gym and got the hard one. Raihan is easy for me because I use Sand Rush Excadrill. Would have been easier if I had a Galar Darmanitan. ALL OF THAT FOR TYRANITAR.) AND TRANSPORT SOME EV LOWERING BERRIES BECAUSE THOSE ARE NECESSARY.
All this looking back made me think: What would happen to each game, and how you played it, if you either took the mechanics available in modern games and made them possible in the early game, or used the severly restricted mechanics of gen 1 in later games. If modern games had no Physical/Special split (special would be the average of a pokemons special attack and special defense in this experiment), no held items, no abilities, the 1/256 glitch, the old typing matchups, typing decided if a move was special or physical and so on... If we mixed all this together and went through let's say Sun and Moon, what would your prefered team look like? Keep in mind, ONLY mechanics that were in gen 1 can be used to decide your team!
@@deathxanamon7211 Yeah, ONLY mechanics that were in gen 1... So any pure steel, fairy and dark types would just have another typing that would make sense for them instead (you can pick ones you think would fit for them)
2:41 "What makes Jynx special is its Ice typing" Well actually Mikey, *pushes up glasses* Psychic was also a Special type in Gen I. (This is a joke btw)
Mindy deserves to be drowned by the floor tentacles for trading a Haunter with an Everstone! Anyway, this is an interesting video. I’m not really into making in-game trades myself (I either brave it out with Pokémon I catch myself or hope to find someone with a console for me to trade with), but I admire this assessment of better trades within the games.
I would like to say that I recently playing Black 2, and the trade Emolga for a Gigalith is very useful. After I beat Skyla, I decided to trade it with the Gigalith since I didn't want to grind to evolve my Boldore. And that Gigalith which is lvl 47 now, actually beat Black Kyurem. So it's really useful even against dragon-type 👍👍
The in game trades in Gen 1 was literally the only way to get Jynx, Mr Mime, and Farfetch’d. There’s just no getting one of them without them having a nickname, unless they were gift Pokémon in Stadium.
BooksRFun58 Like the Pokemon which is most commonly seen in the Hall Of Fame team of a player(and is used almost in the entire playthrough......which means it’s available early and easily)
That freaking Haunter-Medicham trade is so infamous. I never felt so disappointed/heartbroken/angry/trolled in a Pokémon game before or since. Gengar was always one of my favorite Pokémon, too, because I used to play Silver countless times since the save file would get deleted and I would always use a Gengar or a Haunter in my team in every single playthrough. In many ways, Gastly was my starter, not Chikorita/Cyndaquil/Totodile. Screw you straight to hell, Mindy...
I've always wondered this: If you're playing Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl and you are using Team Sky, then wouldn't Mindy's Haunter not evolving actually be a good thing? Gengar no longer has Levitate, so I'd assume it's no longer eligible for use on Team Sky.
In Scarlet and Violet, we FINALLY have the anti-Mindy, a Beauty in Levencia who will trade you a Haunter WITHOUT AN EVERSTONE for a Pincurchin, giving you a free Gengar.
I still think that the Haunter trade is actually kinda powerful even without evolving it, and Gen 4 also has a trade glitch which players can use if they have the ability to use the Internet through that one exploit. It’s also Hasty Nature, has boosted experience like always, and is really freaking fast.
You get a 400 BST pokémon at the second-to-last gym, when you could've gotten said Haunter after like, gym 2 or whenever you can access the tower or the old chateau. If the trade wasn't so extremely later compared to where you can just deadass get the pokémon yourself, I'd say yes it's even worth it without the evo, but like this, it probably joins your party at a point your average BST total outdoes it by a good 100.
I kind of like that 5 generations after the infamous Gaspar trade, Gamefreak rectified this insult to players by offering an in-game trade in Scarlet and Violet where you offer up a Pincurchin for a Haunter that WILL evolve into a Gengar when traded. You perform the trade in Levincia beside the battle court, although fair warning, the Haunter will have a Brave Nature, which is plus attack and minus speed, which is terrible for Gengar, so hopefully you have a nature mint to change it to modest or another beneficial nature.
Fun fact: if the comments I've read are correct, Mindy's Haunter wouldn't have evolved even if it wasn't holding an Everstone. They just didn't program in-game trades to count for trade evolutions.
I think poor Mindy gets too much flak. Judging from her dialogue afterward she seemingly had no idea Everstones stopped Pokemon evolving and legitimately thought that Haunter would evolve and that she was just throwing in a nice extra gift.
@@black97_0 Haunter is an okay pokemon, especially in-game, and I really do like it. But that trade is still the worst because you were expecting to get a Gengar out of it, and Gengar >>> Haunter
@@raerohan4241 I only agree for gens where mega gengar and max gengar are a thing Everything else - hell to the no Gengar is visually inferior to haunter, and visual appeal is 75% of why people prefer using 1 pokémon over the other of the same type Even if his base stat total is higher, I'm not using gengar if he can't go max or mega. To me saying he's superior, is like saying unown is superior to alakazam. You don't do that, to Haunter fan
@@black97_0 Technically you’re the one saying Unown is superior to Alakazam lol. Haunter and Unown are not as good as Gengar and Alakazam (in terms of battle, I do agree Haunter’s design is much better) so technically you’re the one saying Unown is better than Alakazam lol. And again, since you were expecting a Gengar out of the trade and you didn’t get one because of that freaking troll, it’s the worst in-game trade ever. Just for the betrayal aspect 😞
Just another note on the Petalil trade, it's actually better in B2W2 because it gets Own Tempo. In other words, you can abuse Miracle Seed + Flatter + Petal Dance.
Omg. This is the third time I have watched this video and towards the end you can hear his Texas come out. “There aren’t no dark types” that made my night 😂😂😂
The only in-game trade Pokemon I've used on a playthrough team were Billy the Electrode in SoulSilver and Genmar the Alolan Marowak in Let's Go Pikachu. Both of which helped out quite a lot. Genmar helped against Sabrina, and Billy started my fight against Lance.
I think for the Let's Go games you could have mentioned Alolan Marowak. It covers the Psychic types without being weak to them, and Ghost Fire is a great typing for a playthrough, especially in Kanto, since there are so few dark types.
I haven’t watched the video yet but I’ve watched a lot of the “best Pokémon in each game” videos and I literally cannot wait for him to start talking about Kenya
I caught a Scyther in the Bug Catching Contest, traded it to my other game, gave it a Metal Coat, traded it back, and used Scizor to sweep the gym without even falling below half health
I’m going to have to disagree with your best trade in HGSS, in my opinion dodrio is the best trade you can get because it has amazing speed and attack, and it also outclasses all other normal flying types ingame (fearow, pidgeot) you can also easily deal with Whitney with a geodude So yeah, DODRIO SUPREMACY
Wait... do you mean that super late trade in Blackthorn, a.k.a. basically the endgame where you'd have to trade away a *fucking Dragonair* for a normal/flying type weak to the electric/ice moves of the gym left? Maaybe if that trade was way earlier for something way less cumbersome to find, but otherwise, the early trades of Machop and Onix alongside the gift Spearow are way, way more valuable.

So no dark, steel, or fairy type, Bugs are weak and psychic is immune to ghost? These need specifying to help me pick a team.
@@deathxanamon7211 Yeah, ONLY mechanics that were in gen 1... So any pure steel, fairy and dark types would just have another typing that would make sense for them instead (you can pick ones you think would fit for them)

I would like to say that I recently playing Black 2, and the trade Emolga for a Gigalith is very useful.
It took me forever to realize how lucky I got when I choose the female water starter and challenged Whitney’s milktank.

Everything else - hell to the no

Even if his base stat total is higher, I'm not using gengar if he can't go max or mega.
To me saying he's superior, is like saying unown is superior to alakazam.

Alolan Marowak gets no physical Ghost moves in Let's Go. If anything it's the worst trade.
