When I was young i though that Wingull was a legendary, i know, but I was just overhyped for a new region.
Tfw you realize that Barry, the most impatient character in pokemon history, supposedly caught a munchlax.

Why does this only have 12 likes?
It's because Barry was going to fine the tree ¥10,000,000 if it didn't give him a Munchlax

Actually, in Gen 2, if you beat Hiker Anthony on Route 33 and get his number, he'll call you occasionally when there's an upsurge of Dunsparce in the cave, and you can go and catch a whole bunch of them.
Why would you want to have more than one Dunsparce....?

You missed one fact: if you get a munchlax after slathering honey, and you slather honey on the SAME tree, it has a 90% chance of being a munchlax. However, if you go to another tree after you get the munchlax, the chance is 0.1%

"If you want a Munchlax in Sinnoh, just breed a Snorlax"
Only problem: The only way to get a Snorlax in Sinnoh is to evolve a Munchlax.
You can get a Snorlax from FRLG or HGSS. It is a static encounter in those games so you can easily catch one then transfer it to a Sinnoh game.
@@alperkeskin9644 That, of course, requires you to have the game in question. Not everyone has a classic DS or DS Lite while were at it (Afterall, the 3DS and New 3DS are backwards compatible with the entire DS Library, and getting those, while not necessarily cheaper, is probably easier), so for many FRLG is out right from the start. Plus of course not everyone has the money to shed on a second DS to transfer 1 Pokemon from another game.
I caught Munchlax in Pokémon platinum once took me 3 weeks
@Matthew Garcia it’s really rare? They sell for $30 over here

Imagine you're an Unova citizen, waking up craving for a fish, so you head out to a random route.

Wailord being exclusive to route 129 makes sense since it's probably the furthest from any land you can get in the game. Large whales typically don't come too close to land or else they get beached
Makes great sense, and Wailmer can be closer to the shore like many of the growing forms of fish and other marine life
It may also be that Wailmer tend to be caught before they have a chance to evolve, so the only place you encounter Wailord is far enough away from lower-level trainers they have a chance to grow.
Whales don’t get beached unless they are dying giving birth injured or dead if they are healthy they can go near land without getting dragged by the waves

I haven’t watched the whole video yet, but I’d assume it’s because you have to put honey on a tree in order to get a munchlax in diamond, pearl, and platinum. I was thinking it was tyranitar in black and white because there’s a 1% chance of getting a tyranitar in a certain area. I remember I happened to run into it on my first try hunting for it, but I didn’t end up catching it, sadly
@@TrueWarlordMafia Yeah, that's the joke anyway. In all honestly pokemon HGSS Riolu is super underlooked in difficulty to obtain, you should check it out.

Can't you breed it in heartgold?
I think that’s cool. You basically NEED help from HGSS to get a snorlax in DPP, because snorlax has static encounters in HGSS while in DPP you have to evolve munchlax
That’s a terrible concept because trading is incredibly annoying, especially with older games where you need to be physically near the other device

Maybe you should have done the same math but with Pokémon in their first stage, with no pre-evolution at all or hard to envolve in a rare event plus the rare odds to find their pre-evolution as well. One thing that could be added to Gen 1 is that while the encounter rate obv. is higher, the Safari Zone adds the difficulty of fleeing Pokemon. Elsewhere in the wild they might be less occuring, but more predictable catch-fights when they happen.
UNLESS however, you know about the Safari-Zone Glitch that spawns you on Cinnabar Island and spawning the Pokemon of the last visited Safari Zone area on the beach, thus eliminating this factor.
Yes, it's a Glitch but it makes catching those rare Pokémon a lot easier, since you can now weaken them and use your Ultra Balls or throw cloned Master Balls. lol
@@Laprisu Didn't know that so thank you! :)
Great video! Some key points were highlighted that I hadn't heard anyone else discuss. Thank you!
Good Luck with the upcoming update.

Me: *laughs I'm Square Shiny Authentic Sinistea*
Micheal:Rare pokemon Scyther Kangaskhan and Tauros
Chansey:You think im just a statue?
Well, he's not wrong. You are just a nourishing candy egg dispenser.
If it is was also about catching then chansey would definitely take the cake like chansey is like a nightmare when you have to catch it in the safari zone
I caught a chansey two times in safari zone with just throwing a safari ball
Dude in pokemon firered I was so triggered and almost gave due to the fact that Chansey will run away in the Safari zone. I wasted so much time to find this pokemon just to complete my Kanto pokedex
Chansey's problem isn't the Encounter rate, but its Catch rate, which is even less than Deoxys'
Can you imagine running into a wild bagon by chance at the start of the game and then getting decimated by a Salamence before you've caught a single Pokemon
Ty for your explanation of your video at the start. It wasn't what I was looking for 😃

@@thelegomaster3378 ?
Same reaction dude. I'm playing emerald and I was dead set catching a feebas in a swarm of carvanha.
The reason for that was that, in the tiles where Feebas is, he has a very high encounter rate and only finding those tiles is enough.
For Dragonite and Munchlax, they have a 1% encounter rate besides the part that they appear in only a few select places at the time.
EDIT: Wrong pokemon, it was Dragonite

I can confirm, Ralts is tough to find in ORAS. While you can use the DexNav on the PokèNav Plus to search for it, you have to capture the species before you can do that. And what's worse is that there are 4 (1 on Route 101 and 3 on Route 102) special, pre-determined Hidden Pokèmon (Hidden Pokèmon are Pokèmon that you find via searching with DexNav, but the special ones are the same, except they spawn in without searching before meeting up with May/Brendan on Route 102, are at Lv. 5, while other Pokèmon in the area are lower than that, and have egg moves [maybe, Idk, gotta check later]), and none of them are Ralts. They are instead more common Pokèmon (i.e. Poochyena on Route 101 and Zigzagoon, Surskit, and Seedot/Lotad [OR/AS, respectively]).
Edit: After a long time searching (because I only have AS, so Seedot was tough to research), I found the results for the moves. You can read if your interested, not really part of the story, but anyways, Poochyena has Thunder Fang (chosen Treecko), Fire Fang (chosen Mudkip), or Ice Fang (chosen Torchic), Zigzagoon has Charm (it also has Tail Whip but it gets it at Lv. 5 anyways, not really an egg move, so who cares), Lotad has Teeter Dance, Seedot has Beat Up, and Surskit has Fell Stinger.
I guess 8-year-old me was on to something when I used my master ball on a magneton in ruby 😂🙄
This put a physical pain in my chest.

I feel like for OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire the rarest would be certain low% encounters only available on Mirage locations. The function is available after capture/defeat of groudon/kyogre, and a limited number of random rolled locations per day (some only at dawn and dusk.) Great video mate 😄
For whatever reason, when I played Leaf Green, I found maybe we'll over 2 dozen Dunsparce, one after the other in a single patch of grass. I've also found maybe three Dragonairs in the wild, max. But this was almost 20 years ago.
Imagine someone got a shiny munchlax with perfect IVS
They probably won the lottery about 100 times
I got that kind of I got a munchlax first try and a shiny after 1049 try’s I didn’t know it was 1%
In an alternative universe, that always happens
You only need to roll a munchlax when you put on the honey, you can reset infinitely after that and still have the munchlax.
@@josephhanicak7922 exactly. Save before checking, if it is a munchlax keep resetting.
You will get a shiny one with perfect IVs eventually, though it may take several years
Here’s how bloody rare volcarona/larvesta was in USUM: I found a full odds shiny dugtrio before I found a larvesta.

I thought Feebas for Sinnoh was, out of a certain lake in a cave, only four of those tiles where feebas. And they where randomly shuffled every day?
If we were looking at the series as a whole, a legit Shiny Mew is pretty rare, since it is only ever available through time-limited events.

Got insanely lucky without knowing it, caught munchlax on the first and only honey tree I ever bothered to use playing platinum..didn't know it was that rare untill watching this
Did you consider the odds of mirage island at all for Gen 3? You didn't specifically exclude it, and despite knowing the method of having mirage island appear, it still has very low odds. Wynaut shows there with 100%, but it always seemed incredibly difficult to reach.
Great video !
I just wanted to comment though, I don't know if anyone else said this or if I'm wrong somehow, but in the BW2 segment of the video you refer to Medicham/Hariyama, Murkrow, Lombre and Granbull as the rarest in these games since they're only a 1% encounter chance in a hidden grotto, I wanted to mention that there is one Pokémon rarer than that.
In Pokémon Black 2, you can only find Heracross in the wild and Pinsir in White 2, but the other version's beetle can show up in one of the Hidden Grottos at a rate of only 0.75%. Meaning that the other version's beetle is even rarer than the aforementioned Pokémon!
I think Dragonairs inclusion in Yellow is a reference to the anime where Ash is in the Safari zone(a skipped episode for censorship in English) and sees a Dragonair
oh yeah! that was the banned one where the Warden kept waving around a gun right?
Mocha yep. It’s also where his Tauros came from. 4Kids must have been pissed when the episode that reintroduced them to the audience debuted in Japan after they skipped the Safari Zone episode thinking they wouldn’t be seen as Ash wasn’t completely on board with catching a herd of Tauros.
I watched that episode because I had a DVD of the Pokemon Original Series that had every banned episode except Electric Soldier Porygon.
@@glowstonelovepad9294 That one was banned in Japan first, then america dubbed it and lowered the effect, but Japan was not happy.
I know, I watched a part of it.

Wild, I just bought the Crystal version for the 3DS and literally the first encounter on my first time going into Dark Cave for a Zubat was a Dunsparce. I knew it was rare and that it swarmed but it wasn't swarming because I went thru about 20 more encounters training and looking for another just in case and no other encounters. Wild.
if Legends Arceus was on this list, it would definitely be either Cherubi or Spiritomb. Cherubi, mostly because of the meme, and Spiritomb because of a) the entire whisp quest that you have to do to get it to spawn at all, and once it does spawn, it's in a single small out-of-the-way area in one section of the map.

Seeing that shiny gyarados reminds me of my pokemon sapphire. My brother and I shared the ds caught a shiny magikarp, shiny wingull, and a shiny zubat. I also remember being stuck in the rayquaza cave and the only to go was forward and when we finally got to him, we realized that the only pokeball we had was a single greatball so we had to restart the game a million times before we eventually caught him. Ahh good times.
As a kid I would spend hours looking for a dunsparce in that cave, he was a staple of my team. Idk why I just liked him because he was so damn hard to find. I would always lead with him to get the glare off.
Dunsparce and Smeagle OP!
An addendum to Honey Tree's, there exists a calculator out there, only just made in 2017, that calculates 2 of your Munchlax tree's locations using only your regular Trainer ID. To be fair, it took 10 years for people to figure out how Honey Tree's worked and the data is only widely availible years after Gen 4 became irrelevant to most players.
Another thing is, if you immediately reslather a honey tree that pulled pokemon from the cruddy bucket of pokemon (I.E The ones that pull Silcoon and Casacoon in D/P and Wurmple in Platinum) you have a 90% chance to pull from that same bucket again. This means you might be locking yourself out of Munchlax and, more importantly, Heracross unknowningly. Or if you find one, locking yourself into 90.1% chance of finding ONLY Munchlax (Enjoy Farming Leftovers!) due to how the three bucket's work. So if you suspect you're getting only crap, leave the route or enter a different battle before slathering the tree again.
Even then, it's still a mega low encounter rate
Says that dunsparce is the rarest in gen 2, then says chansey.
Crystal version: *laughs in 1% Mt.Silver Pupitar, and only in the deepest part*
Thank you, the dunsparce swarm in both versions. I grinded for 2 weeks trying to get Chansey tho
