We were at a christmas party with my friend and as I was running around the dive area before you got to the team aqua base I randomly got it. I was like "what is this, why is it a different color?" I remember WAYYYYY back in the day, before Gold and Silver came out in the US, a buddy of mine got a Japanese copy of Silver. It was surprisingly easy to follow. Anyway, red Gyrados blew our minds. We kept having to reset because we only had one pokeball and were so desperate to catch it.
He was also the first person I knew to get all 150 on his red version with a little help from my blue version.
Rumor was that Prof Oak would give you either a Mew or a "pikablu" (what we called Marill back then) for completing the pokedex.

Fun fact: I have 7 shiny stunfisks from ultra warp ride. I trained 6 of them to mess with my friends by using all of them at once. I transferred the 7th into sword

I once encountered a 'SHINY' Gligar, took the pic and sent to all my friends and caught it. Then immediately after a encounter I faced it again and thought I was the luckiest person ever just to be disappointed by the fact the it is different coloured in platinum when it did not sparkle😭

I was hunting to catch all pokemon that can be found in the wild in Omega Ruby that I haven't caught but all of a sudden I found a shiny Misdreavus, and I wasn't even shiny hunting one! This thing is a little everlasting memory of mine.

If you exclude my 2 Red Gyarados from HG and the shinies I caught in the Ultra Wormhole I have 1. Summer 2016, I was playing White, and I randomly found a shiny Clefairy in the Giant Chasm.

Getting shinies that way just completes sucks the fun out of it and ruins the point. Getting a shiny is a Gamble and is very satisfying when you get one legitmately, I also have two btw. Just getting one by hacking isn't fun or satisfying, it's just flat out boring with no point.

Slight correction: in Gen 3, Wishmaker Jirachi has a slightly higher than average shiny rate (can't remember the exact number, but it's somewhere around 7400 I think) due to some strange quirks. That said, the resets for that Jirachi are painfully slow (~2 minutes each even with the newer slightly inconsistent method using save corruption, and I think like 6-8 minutes with the basic method of restarting the save file and playing up until the point you get the Pokedex). So even with the slightly higher odds, it's definitely not an easy shiny lol.
13:50 What I understand is that, in ORAS, shininess becomes more common as the search level increases. It's an extremely small percentage that may be much better than the full shiny odds, but will take a really long time to be any more effective than that. Using a rather complicated custom algorithm, it decides whether the pokemon will be forced to be shiny, slightly adjusted for every hundred or so search levels. All bonuses may and will stack.
One time I was playing an Emerald Emulator and I found a Full-Odds Shiny Poochyena. I screamed.
The only problem was it was 11:00 in the evening.

@@Kit487 I would say that they are equal. Combees can be found in most of the trees but has a 87.5% chance to be a male. Munchlax has a much smaller chance at being found but, you don't need to worry about the the gender. Once you found the tree, just keep on trying until you get it. Combee on the other hand can be male and shiny. That means no evolution for you.

Yesterday I got my first unintentional shiny. I was hunting for a normal Scraggy in white 2 and it has a 10% probability and I needed it for the pokedex. And instead I got a shiny Darumaka and still, I never found a Scraggy

When they make the HGSS Remakes in Gen 9 they are gonna make it so you can soft reset the Shiny Gyarados for a normal one, and when it enters battle it has a Shiny effect that is like the Square Shiny Effect, but a bit more like Gen 2's Shiny Effect.
I know I’m kinda late to the party, but through using item duplication on the Odd Egg, you can achieve multiple shiny babies. I was trying for a Magby but I got a shiny Cleffa, two Magbys after like 20 something eggs.
This video is more than 2 years old, but I wanted to note that the Shiny Charm was introduced in B2W2, being absent in BW, so the Masuda Method would be the only way to boost the shiny odds in those games

My first shiny was a shiny Zubat in the grass patch just below the guy that gives you a Miracle Seed on Route 32 after you beat Faulkner.
It was stuck in those cartridges (I think Crystal) and eventually I gave up hope of being able to transfer it up and traded them in for other games.
5 years ago I was re-playing Heartgold and found another one in the patch of grass on Route 32 above the guy that gives you a miracle seed this time.
I literally felt it was like he had come back to me after all these years. The Zubat line is some of my favourite shinies/Pokémon because of this story and I still have him, safe in home and I nicknamed him Dracool in honour of my buddy all those years ago.
As far as I can remember, I think my 1st shiny (besides Red Gyarados) was Slugma (or Magcargo) on either Silver or Crystal Version. I think I ran across two within the same day.

@@jawdonxtrahero6673 in gen 1 there is a somewhat conplex method of glitching an item called 8F into the game. With that item you can set up certain conditions (usually involving other items you have) to basically use it like a cheating device. You can use it to force certain pokemon (like mew) to spawn, change IVs (making any pokemon shiny), and even change pokemon/trainer IDs (which is the only way to put a glitched mew in the poke bank). I'm sure there is other stuff you can do with it.

I started replaying Emerald again recently on my GBA and my Wurmple evolved into Silcoon, so I ran around trying to catch a Cascoon because beautifly bad dustox good. It took a while and I joked to myself that I would find a shiny Poochyena because I kept running into Poochyenas.

Something similar happened to me while I was trying to find a Skitty, it was so hard to find that I joked to myself that I would find a shiny Pokémon before finding a Skitty. You can guess what happened next.
I’m someone who thinks the red (shiny) gyarados should count as a shiny (because it is one) BUT I’m glad you went into the other easiest shinies to obtain because that was some really interesting information about getting shinies in gen 2 that I didn’t know!
my first non-guaranteed shiny was a ralts that I hunted in my alpha sapphire game. I would love to one day encounter a shiny that I wasn’t actively hunting, though.
In Ultra Moon, I got a shiny mudbray while trying to get a female eevee. Never really expected that so I quickly tried to catch it and yes you've guessed it, I never used it.
And then there’s me, randomly getting shiny Wingull in three different games and then a shiny Noivern in shield.
I have two shiny Typhlosions that I didn't even grind for. One was in Vietnamese Crystal and the other was in Randomized Emerald. I'm honestly not sure whether to be joyous or upset about them...

UPDATE: I have about a dozen shiny pokemon on shield now. I grinded for the shiny charm, and now I've gotten a pretty good bit through Max raids.
If you have the expansion, the rates of getting Shiny are so much higher now. If you do the ledgdary Raids, you have a 1 in 25 after you have the shiny charm

If you catch all of the pokemon in the raid(which are a guaranteed catch if you can defeat them) your odds increase by a huge amount.
It definitely takes some work to get there, but the payoff is worth it imo.

I remember my first shiny was in White 2. I saved before initiating the Azelph fight but kept killing it by trying to lower its hp and I kept resetting to catch it with low HP. Ended up finding a shiny one after a few attemps and I was so in shock because I never imagined encounter a shiny, let alone a legendary shiny. I didn’t even hesitate to use my Masterball. That Azelph is in my Pokemon home today :)
I've been playing pokemon since it first came to the US and I got my first shiny pokemon, a Pumpkaboo, in Shield when they were doing special raids. And pretty shortly after I got my first completely random shiny pokemon, a Chinchou, which also was the first Chinchou of the game I had seen. One day I'll have patience for the masuda method and finally get a shiny fennekin!

Literally just finished my two year masuda method shiny dreepy hunt half an hour ago. I had the foreign ditto and shiny charm and was still almost twice over odds. Im just so happy with my boy.
The first time I encountered a shiny Pokémon was way back when I was playing Fire Red on my GameBoy Advance SP. It was a shiny Poliwhirl I found in Seaform Islands.
Back then I didn't know what a shiny was and I was like a bit confused why that had a different color and a star mark. I just left the battle only to realise that what I had experienced was a very rare encounter.
On my second playthrough of the game I had an encounter with a shiny Spearow while I was running in a patch of grass near Cerulean City. Now this time I knew this was a special occasion because the Spearow was golden in color. I managed to catch it and I evolved it into a Fearow which looked pretty good in gold kind of like the one Ash Ketchum had which was a Shiny Noctowl.
The only shiny I've ever found by chance was when I was playing on my best friends game. My first random shiny and it wasn't even my game. It was an Oddish.
Edit: I finally got a shiny on my own game, random encounter Shiny Unown. Hilarious that it's a Pokemon I was obsessed with in middle school but I couldn't be happier.
The Gaming Panda Oddish was also my first! But I was like 8 and thought it was a glitched Pokemon (especially since I played the game in English while only knowing like 20 sentences in English) so I just reset my game when I was finished with it and lost it forever...

In all pokemon games I've played (including fanmade because that's where my shiny history starts ) my first shiny I encountered was a shiny torkoal in brick bronze ultimately failing to be caught because of my only two great balls. I was playing omega ruby and randomly encountered a shiny whismur I used it to beat the league. The very next playthrough I found a shiny wurmple before the first gym. Haven't found a shiny since.
My first shiny was in Fire Red.
I caught a shiny Oddish and I remember showing it to my cousin, who loved Pokemon but had no idea why my Oddish was a different color.
The weird part? I distinctly remember it looking like a darker blue color, not the bright green Oddish shiny. So does my cousin, actually, but I also remember the shiny animation that it had when I encountered it, which is why I caught it in the first place. Odd.

I remember my first shiny. I had first heard about shinies and wanted one so bad so I looked up how to get them. It was the calling for backup method in Pokémon Ultra Moon. I kept at it for a few hours. 9 year old me needed a shiny. Finally, a little buneary popped up with pink fluff. I had done it. I then got a hippopotas like a week later in the wormholes
Those are so cute! My first was a Lickitung and all I had was my level 90 Mewtwo and several level 10-15 pokemon I was training on Kalos Victory Road, I still caught it though!

My first shiny was Audino in Pokémon white with full odds. One day later I got shiny ratata in White 2, this happened last weeks. I haven’t believed in shinys on these games before since I haven’t ever seen one in my 500+ ingame hours… 5 days later I found myself soft resetting for a shiny Mudkip in Alpha Sapphire and getting it after 476 attempts. Never been as lucky as that week…

The new best Gen 8 shiny hunting method for specific Pokémon changed due to the Crown Tundra.
The shiny odds of Pokémon encountered in the Dynamax Adventures is 1/300 or 1/100 with a shiny charm.

Do the cute charm glitch in gen 4. You have about a 20% chance of all wild encounters to be shiny and all it takes is to correctly time when you start the game and finish the professor intro. Also you can get a guaranteed shiny starter if you follow a specific path on a trainer ID you reset for with the timing.
Allow us to give 1/100 chances (with shiny charm) for almost every single legendary and random mons

You can enjoy cute charm if you wish, but I find it to be an incredibly boring shiny hunting method that makes the fun of the hunt non-existent. What is the point of shiny hunting if you find one 21.34% of the time? It is literally harder to find a pikachu in viridian forest than it is to find a shiny with the cute charm glitch.
I’m not quite sure why you brought up a shiny hunting method from a game released in 2006 on a comment regarding a game from 2019, but if you enjoy exploiting the cute charm glitch for ridiculously easy shinies, more power to you. I’ll continue hunting using the intended methods though, if it’s all the same to you.
My boxes and boxes of shinies from multiple generations are a testament to the fact that I do just fine without it.

I don't recall what I was looking for (it was over ten years ago) but I remember never finding it because all I found were Pikachu...no I remember it was a light ball Pikachu. I wanted to breed for Pichu and needed a lightball which I did get.

I remember seeing a shiny Zubat in gen 2, but I was a little kid and had no idea what that was, so I just shrugged my shoulders and ran from it, then the Igglybuff in Crystal, Magikarp (while looking for Feebas) and Poochy in gen 3, Cascoon early in game when I lent it to my friend, Ursaring in SoulSilver, Sawsbuck in Black, Corphish in X, Gligar in Y (and like a month ago, forgot what the friend safari even was, 2 encounters in, a shiny Bergmite) Skarmory from a tree in UltraSun, finally a legendary shiny Regieleki in 5 resets in Sword, Piloswine and Charmeleon from Dynamax, and now almost a full box in Scarlet

i found a shiny sentret by accident in Crystal during heading down to pallet town, and shiny sentret in gen 2 is one of my favourites now.
my first ever shiny in a man series game was a full odds shiny golbat in pokemon lets go eevee in cerulean cave, BUT IT WOULDNT STAY IN THE BALL AND IT RAN AWAY(though a few hours later i found a shiny bellsprout so its all good)

I started with Gold & Silver when I started playing Pokemon, played through it for a while with a Noctowl on my team. Well at some point in middle school I quit playing it. Fast forward about 10 years later I find the ole Gameboy color with my game still in it. So I decided to check it out. Looking at my team I noticed I had a shiny Noctowl. Guess my not so smart self had caught a shiny Noctowl and used it through the game without realizing it.
My first non-guaranteed shiny was in X/Y in the Friend Safari.
The first Shiny I got that wasn't boosted was Magikarp in Sword/Shield. And, no, it wasn't a raid battle, it was just a normal fishing battle.

Well actually, due to a programming quirk, the shiny red gyrados in heartgold and soulsilver isnt a guarenteed shiny, they actually just flipped the odds, which means that yes, you could enter an encounter with that gyrados, and theres a chance it will be blue aka normal.
I can just imagine someone wanting to hunt a normal colored Lake of Rage Gyarados.

As a Dragon Quest player, I am probably going to confuse the Masuda method and the Masayuki map a lot.
The Masuda method drastically increases the odds of getting a shiny Pokemon from an egg.
The Masayuki map has a floor with all Metal King Slimes, a rare monster that gives a ton of experience points.

Shiny did not exist in Gen 1, Shiny Pokemon were determined by the IV spread. So basically a Pokemon could be Shiny in Gen 1 without you knowing about it.
However any legal Mew from Gen 1 has a specific IV spread which makes it impossible for it to be Shiny. It's either glitched or hacked.
My first shiny was a Vibrava I found just running around near the volcano area in White 2. Was on my team for the rest of the playthrough. My second shiny was a Noibat that randomly approached me in my playthrough of X while in a cave. I’ve never had a random shiny since, I’ve had to hunt for all of them.
My first shiny was a sentret in FRLG that I caught after I had already completed everything I wanted to in the game. That shiny did not last long.
My oldest brother though, he told me about how he caught a shiny manectric (my favorite pokemon) on the route across the sea next to Mauville. I was so jealous, I started shiny hunting Electrike on my emerald save but being, idk, 12 using an emulator, I eventually gave up and just cheated one in for that cool sparkle. I did feel guilty since I didn't earn them, but shiny Electrike and Manectric are two of my favorites to this day.

@@ericdublinski3206 if you have an event active in your game and disconnect from the internet you can keep the event for as long as you want. But as soon as you connect to the internet again it will automatically update the wild area to the most recent event.
I don't have the event anymore, I felt like I had enough shiny magikarps so decided to update my wild area

Me as a dumb 10 year old surfed right into a shiny tentacool in Pokemon Silver, didn't realize until later that it was a shiny. And because I already had a tentacool by then did no proceed to catch it. It's been the only shiny I ever ran into and still sour about it. Been playing, pretty much all the main series games up to X and Y, and have yet to encounter a shiny again.

I’ve only found a couple full odd shinies; my two main ones are my ones from Sun: a Pikipek named Petree that is now a Toucannon and a Gumshoos named Chief that was called in by a yungoos as an SOS call; both were 1 in 4096
My ultimate best shiny story was when i was playing shield back in January of 2020 and wanted to breed some Pokemon for online battling and the first pokemon i wanted to get was Alcremie. Before i got the shiny charm or even tried the Masuda method, the literal first egg that i have hatched in the entire save file off the game was a shiny Milcery and i was ecstatic about it all day

I remember playing Omega Ruby and just wanting to complete all the legendaries. Suddenly, a shiny Landorus appeared on my first encounter and I wasn’t even trying to catch shinies. Since then, Landorus and Milotic (I managed to get a shiny feebas at the 11th SOS call in Ultra Sun too) are my favorite shiny pokemon.
New guaranteed shiny: Ponyta in PLA. It’s so guaranteed that you can’t even fail it if you try, you rezone and it respawns and catching it is tied to a request.
I remember my very first Shiny on my first Platinum Playthrough, originally this certain Pokemon I didn't plan on having it in my Platinum team until I encounter my very first Shiny Pokemon which I thought I wouldn't ever encounter... And this was Gible, I was so shocked of encountering a real Shiny Pokemon so I have to catch it and keep him to my party, even though Shiny Gible's final Evoultion Garchomp shiny color looks similar to a regular Garchomp. But I didn't care and he had become a powerhouse of my Platinum Team.
